• Internet Explorer not displaying gif file

  My friend is making a website for a class. Some of the pages display gif image files as links. They display correctly in Firefox and Chrome but not in Internet Explorer. Anybody know why? • WordPress front page (homepage) fails to redirect when static front page is set.

  I have configured WordPress to display a static front page as described here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Reading_SubPanel#Reading_Settings When save changes and try to visit my front page, my browser displays the following error: "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." Disabling cookies does not remedy the situation. I'm using the theme, Constructor (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/constructor), which I suspect may be contributing to the problem. How can I make WordPress properly display my front page?

• HTML input type="submit" doubles row height in table

  I have a HTML table where some rows have a button like this: <td > <form action="..." method="GET"> <input type="submit" value="..."/> </form> </td> The rows with the input have about twice the height of other rows that have otherwise similar data. When I remove the just the input, the row height goes back to normal. I have the same behavior in Firefox and IE. Is there any way I can have normal row height AND the button?

• CSS autohide scrollbar when not scrolling on Android webpage

  Is there a way to make the scrollbar auto-hide when a user is not scrolling a webpage on an Android device, but make it visible when it is scrolling? Please note that Firefox browsers does have this behaviour enabled by default, it's just Chrome and stock(Samsung, HTC) browsers that don't. This is what I currently have: -webkit-box-flex: 1; width: 100%; overflow: auto; -webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch; And I can always see the scrollbar on the list (except in ffox)

If I do console.log(findSelection();) it gives me getSelection(). Is there something I've done wrong?

• Selenium fails to find component after dom update (reRender)

  I'm testing a richfaces application with selenium. It works fine, unless I use reRender. (for those unfamiliar with richfaces - whenever an ajax request finished, parts of the DOM are updated/chagned/removed). So, after a reRender selenium (the IDE at least) fails to locate the elements which were within the reRendered area. Both FireBug and WebDeveloper locate the elements, and on "view source" the elements are there. So, is there a way to tell selenium to update its DOM "knowledge" with the latest changes? Firefox 3.5.6, latest version of Selenium IDE.

  Hello According to RFC, in multipart/form-data content-disposition header filename field receives as parameter HTTP quoted string - string between quites where character '\' can escape any other ascii character. Problem web browsers don't do it. IE6 sends: Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="z:\tmp\test.txt" Instead of expected Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="z:\\tmp\\test.txt" Which should be parsed as z:tmptest.txt according to rules instead of z:\tmp\test.txt. Firefox, Konqueror and Chrome don't escape " characters for example: Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename=""test".txt" Instead of expected Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="\"test\".txt" So... how would you suggest to deal with this issue?

• IE8 no honoring display:none

  I have the following markup on a page and unfortunately I do not have direct access to it. . This page is opened in an iframe. There is other code on the page but it is not relevant so I have not posted it. The only access to target the code in via css. I want to not display the close button so I added this to the css file img[alt='Close'] {display:none !important;} this is the markup <td align="center"><a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='v/vspfiles/templates/100/images/buttons/btn_close.gif' alt='Close' border=0></a></td> It works as expected in all browsers that i have tested (firefox, Opera, Safari) but in IE8 it seems to ignore this css and shows the button. Not sure if it doesn't like the selector or perhaps I have a syntax error. Not sure where to go from here.

• jQuery.keypad Performance Issues

  I am working on a Kiosk Touch Screen application and using the JQuery.keypad plugin and noticing some major performance issues. If you click a number of buttons in rapid succession the CPU gets pegged, the button clicks don't keep up with the clicking and some button presses even get lost. On my dev machine this isn't as noticeable, but on the Kiosk itself with 1 gig of ram it's painful. Trying the demo keypad at http://keith-wood.name/keypad.html#inline the one with multiple targets (which is the case with mine) has the exact same issues. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we might be able to improve this? The Kiosk runs in Firefox only so something specific to that would work. I'm using v1.2.1 of jquery.keypad and just upgraded to v1.4.2 of jquery.

  We're using the fb:registration plugin to sign up users on our site. Today I noticed the registration redirect is no longer working in Google Chrome and Safari (latest public release). I know for sure it was working with the same code as recently as last week. It seems to be getting stuck on submission with this error, which is coming from: static.ak.fbcdn.net/rsrc.php/v1/ys/r/ioE9qOq_5Oa.js:101 Firefox and IE have no problem, so it seems to be Webkit specific. Any ideas?

  I'm interested in peoples' views on how best to store preferences and default settings in cross-platform applications. I primarily work in Perl on *nix and Windows but I'm also interested in the bigger picture. In the *nix world "dotfiles" (and directories) are very common with system-wide or application default settings generally residing in one path and user-specific settings in the home directory. Such files and dirs begin with a dot "." and are hidden by default from directory listings. Windows has the registry which also has paths for defaults and per-user overrides. Certain cross-platforms do it their own way, Firefox uses JavaScript preference files. Should a cross-platform app use one system across platforms or say dotfiles on *nix and registry on Windows? Does your favourite programming language have a library or module for accessing them in a standard way? Is there an emerging best practice or does everybody roll their own?

• Changing The Underlying Background Color Of A Swing Window

  As discussed here, when resizing a Swing application in Vista (and Windows 7, which is what I'm using) you get a black background in the right/bottom corner while Swing's repaint catches up to the changes. Playing with other applications (Windows Explorer (Native), Firefox (C++?), and Eclipse (Java)) I notice that they all have this same problem - contrary to what the folks in the link above say - but they minimize the problem by having a grey fill color, which is far less visually jarring than the black that appears in Swing. I'm wondering if there's some way to change this so that Swing behaves like these other applications? I tried setting the background color of the JFrame, but to no avail.

  I recently encountered a printing issue in Firefox that eventually turned out to be a problem with the fieldset tag we wrapped the entire page in. (Bugzilla: Bug 471015) All browsers have their own rendering quirks and issues, but it can be very hard to know what's causing different behaviors. Sure, you can Google, but that's often taking a shot in the dark about what you think is causing the problem. It also doesn't stop you from having to sort through multiple complains about the same behavior before you find someone who has the issue your looking for. Are there any websites out there that let you search for rendering behavior issues by browser version, browser function, css tag, or html tag? I've seen this SO Question, Wanted: Resource for documented Cross-Browser differences, but I'd like to find something more detailed that includes browser bugs.

  Hello! This is a simple question, but I didn´t found any documentation about this. When an applet makes a request, how is the user agent of the request. I want to know the applet user-agent expression to detect if a request comes from an applet. I make two test, with IE7 and Firefox 3.0.5 with JDK 1.6.0_03 and the user agent was "Mozilla/4.0 (Windows 2003 5.2) Java/1.6.0_03" in both, but I can´t generalize from two test.   Hello everybody In my App I'm trying to get PSMTabBarControl working, but all I do - nothing... I have copied the framework File in my Frameworks folder of my App, then included it. In my InterfaceBuilder (1.3.2) I was able to drag and drop the PSMTabBarControl to my Window and link it with the NSTabView (PSM - tabView - NSTabView && NSTabView - delegate - PSM), but after i tried a Demo (apple+r) I cant see the Tabs... Tried all I can - but dont know why.. Am I doing sth. wrong? Which other Framework or Source I can use to create Tabs like Firefox oder Safari? Thank you!

• jQuery Upload Progress Plugin Not working in Chrome and Safari

  I am using the jquery.uploadprogress plugin to get the upload progress of a file from the NginxHttpUploadProgressModule. This is inside an iframe for a facebook application. It works in firefox, but it fails in chrome/safari. When I open the console I get this. Uncaught ReferenceError: progressFrame is not defined jquery.uploadprogress.js:80 Any idea how I would fix that? I would like to also send the file using AJAX when it is completed. How would I implement that? EDIT: I need this soon and it is important so I am going to put a 100 point bounty on this question. The first person to answer it will receive the 100 points. • I am not able launch JNLP aaplications using "Java Web Start"?

  Up until recently, I was able to launch/open JNLP files in Firefox using Java web start. Don't know what happened all of a sudden JNLP files stopped launching, a splash screen appears saying Java Starting... and then nothing happens. Even the Java Console in the browser and javacpl.cpl applet doesn't open. Tried all possibilities: removed all older version and installed the latest JRE (java version "1.6.0_17"), still it doesn't work. Done some googling for this problem, people suggested to start javaws.exe with -viewer option but same behavior (a splash screen appears saying "Java Starting..." and then disappears) The problem is that I don't know any place (logs etc.) to look for to see what is causing the problem. I am using WinXP SP3, and some of the screenshots below shows further info about my system. I can provide any other detail if required but please help me solve this problem. • How does the "Remember my password" checkbox work?

  There are numerous login forms with the little check box "Remember my password" so that the next time you visit the website, the browser automatically fills up the password field for you. But I have noticed a behavior in modern browsers, such as Chrome/Firefox, which shows up a notification bar to save the user name/passoword even though that particular web page does not have any "remember password" check box. so my questions are: If I have to put the "remember password" check box in a login form, what do I have to do when the user checks it? I mean, do I have to store the password in browser cookies (or Local Storage)? If so, should the password be encrypted or plain text? The "Save password" notification bar is a browser's functionality or is there any way to invoke it from the web page?

• Local sites not displaying in VirtualBox when using Django's local development server?

  Hello. I develop web applications using Django on Mac OSX 10.6. I use Django's built in local development server which I run on my computer's IP (such as: http://192.168.0.11:8001/). I test my applications in Firefox, Safari and Chrome and all display fine. I use Sun's VirtualBox with 3 different instances of Windows XP that have IE6, IE7 and IE8 on them. For whatever reason, these sometimes just don't display the Django sites. They come up with 'The page cannot be displayed'. Eight times out of ten, they display fine and function normally but for no reason at all they won't display. Sometimes restarting Django's local development server from the Terminal will fix the problem, sometimes it won't. Is there some sort of VirtualBox settings or Django settings that I need to set to ensure smooth operation of this? Am I overlooking something? Has anyone else had these problems?
