  • cannot get mssql working with sql server 2005

    I'm a MySQL/Apache user, trying my hand with IIS and SQL server, so please, if this is a stupid question have patience. I'm using IIS version 7.5. PHP version 5.3.13 and SQL server 2005 IIS is running on port 90, not sure if that will make a difference or not. I know my sql server is running because I can explore/connect to it in Server management studio. I know php is configured properly, because //localhost:90/phpinfo.php works fine. I updated the php_msql.dll extension in phpinfo to: extension=ext/php_msql.dll EDIT- However, when I run phpinfo() under the "configure command" row, this is present: --without-mssql I found/downloaded the ntwdblib.dll and placed it in both sys32 and php root. All these things were supposed to fix the issue, and they haven't. This is the code I'm using, straight from php.net: <?php // Server in the this format: <computer>\<instance name> or // <server>,<port> when using a non default port number $server = 'localhost'; // Connect to MSSQL $link = mssql_connect($server, 'uname', 'pwd'); if (!$link) { die('Something went wrong while connecting to MSSQL'); } ?> obviously I'm using a real username and password, but when I load the file in my browser, I receive a 500 error.     I'm installing sqlserver 2008 express and I have a couple of questions, by default on the collation, it has SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS I'm just wondering which collation I should choose so that it can store all languages, English, Asian etc. also this is a brand new installation on a brand new box, should I use Default Instance or a Named Instance.     I have an app that is called an external web service on Windows Server 2003. It uses certificates to connect to this web service. I've compiled and run the app on Windows Server 2008 R2, installed the certificates, but its a no go, keep getting SSL trust failure, and can't seem to diagnose the problem. Any ideas would help.     If I wanted to add, let's say, a new .lib to the build only if a particular #define was set, how would I do that? In the MSVC++ 2008 "Property Pages", you would simply add: Config Properties -> Linker -> Input -> Additional Dependencies, but I would like it if something like #define COMPILE_WITH_DETOURS was set, then the particular library would be added to the dependencies, otherwise it would be removed.   • MS 2008 R2 Drops Remote Desktop Sessions in 10 seconds or less every time

    I'm adding a new 64-bit server to our domain. Everything seems fine except when accessing the machine using remote desktop, after a few seconds the connection is lost. The error message is "This computer can't connect to the remote computer." "Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." A similar result with Telnet on port 3389. I am able to connect but if I hit a key the connection to host lost. The event log shows the successful login. No errors. Any ideas?

  • Sync Linux to Windows 2003/2008 Natively

    Without using any external packages for Windows, can Linux synchronise it's clock to a Windows 03/08 Server natively? I've tried it using various NTP packages for Windows but would like to use just Windows software for this. EDIT: I've tried the below however it doesn't work. I've put TimeSource in /etc/hosts, stated server TimeSource in /etc/ntp.conf however when I do a service ntpd start it doesn't sync (it's 3 minutes out at the minute). I then stopped the NTPD and did a ntpdate TimeSource, thinking it would sync and then I'd start the NTPD once it's got the time, and it says: no server suitable for synchronization found. Though I can ping it. Any thoughts?

  • Server 2008 DHCP some clients not getting IP

    Today (after turning on the server from an extended power outage) some clients are not able to get IP addresses. Some clients work just fine. Win 7 and XP doesnt seem to matter. I have tried flushing dns, renew, disabling APIPA and even assigned a static IP. Even with the static IP it acts as if it isn't on a network. You can't ping anything. I have also tried resetting the TCPIP stack. The clients that work can ping the DNS and DHCP servers fine. Any suggestions? Thanks

    I have a project that involves recording data from a device directly into a sql table. I do very little processing in code before writing to sql server (2008 express by the way) typically i use the sqlhelper class's ExecuteNoneQuery method and pass in a stored proc name and list of parameters that the SP expects. This is very convenient, but i need a much faster way of doing this. Thanks.

    I have transaction log backup failures randomly. SQL Server Log says 'Memory constraints resulted reduced backup/restore buffer sizes. Proceding with 6 buffers of size 64KB.', and the SQL Server Agent Error Log has quite a few errors like 'Unable to start Job Manager thread for job xxx', '[298] SQLServer Error: 768, Client unable to establish connection [SQLSTATE 08001]', [298] SQLServer Error: 768, SSL Provider: Not enough memory is available to complete this request [SQLSTATE 08001]'. I am really low on the memory? It has total of 32 GB, but I set maximum to 20. Task manager shows it is using 99% of physical memory. Memoryclerk-sqlbufferpool has 32GB for the Virtual Memory Reserved, and 20 GB for the Virtual Memory Committed. From the perfmon, SQLServer:Memory Manager/Total ServerMemory shows 21GB of memory in use, that's what I set the maximum to. I don't where the rest of memory go. Can anyone advice? When I using the webserver included in Visual Studio 2010 to show same website there is no problem to access the database. Why is it working with VS2010 webserver but not with IIS?

  • Add Service Reference is generating Message Contracts

    OK, this has been haunting me for a while, can't find much on Google and I am starting to lose hope so I am reverting to the SO community. When I import a given service using "Add service Reference" on Visual Studio 2008 (SP1) all the Request/Response messages are being unnecessarily wrapped into Message Contracts (named as -- "operationName" + "Request"/"Response" + "1" at the end). The code generator says: // CODEGEN: Generating message contract since the operation XXX is neither RPC nor document wrapped. The guys who are generating the wsdl from a Java service say they are specifying DOCUMENT-LITERAL/WRAPPED. Any help/pointer/clue would be highly appreciated. Update: this is a sample of my wsdl for one of the operations that look suspicious. In the meanwhile I am hoping it might ring a bell - any help highly appreciated.

  • What would cause ANY .NET application to crash immediately... except a project I create and Debug in

    My software recently got deployed to a customer who said that the application was crashing immediately after it started. After some initial debugging, the customer provided me remote access to one of the computers which was unable to run the application. I found that the crash wasn't specific to my application. Any application which depended on the .NET framework crashed immediately. Conveniently, Visual Studio 2008 was installed so I created a quick hello world application on it and clicked Debug. The application worked fine. But, then when I tried to execute the generated binaries in the /bin/Debug/HelloWorld.exe directory outside of visual studio it crashed. List of things i've tried (UPDATED): I checked that "Everyone" has Read&Execute permissions for c:\Windows. To test that the problem was with the .NET Framework (and not my application), I attempted to download Paint .NET on to the computers. The setup frontend crashed in the same manner. Performed a repair of the .NET framework as outlined in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 (Boy was this fun and time consuming). No luck. Installed .NET 3.5 SP1 (before it just had .NET 3.5) Note: my application targets 2.0 so I did this more as a long shot... but i learned in the process that .NET 3.5 SP1 also updates the underlying frameworks. Ran Aaron Stebner's .NET Setup Verification Tool. This tool indicated that .NET was successfully installed. (I forget if i checked all the versions but at least 2.0 worked). Tested some mini hello world applications which were targeted for .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.5 and both crashed in the same way. Tried launching .NET apps via windbg cmd line. Doing this did allow me invoke my simple hello world applications. So, simple .NET hello world works when invoked by windbg or by launching via debug in visual studio... but doesn't if i try to execute it standalone. I created a dump file using WinDbg. It wasn't all that revealing to me.   • Performing Aggregate Functions on Multi-Million Row Tables

    I'm having some serious performance issues with a multi-million row table that I feel I should be able to get results from fairly quick. Here's a run down of what I have, how I'm querying it, and how long it's taking: I'm running SQL Server 2008 Standard, so Partitioning isn't currently an option I'm attempting to aggregate all views for all inventory for a specific account over the last 30 days.   • Exit code 3 (not my return value, looking for source)

    Greetings, my program exits with the code 3. No error messages, no exceptions, and the exit is not initiated by my code. The problem occurs when I am trying to read extremely long integer values from a text file (the text file is present and correctly opened, with successful prior reading). I am using very large amounts of memory (in fact, I think that this might be the cause, as I am nearly sure I go over the 2GB per process memory limit). I am also using the GMP (or, rather, MPIR) library to multiply bignums. I am fairly sure that this is not a file I/O problem as I got the same error code on a previous program version that was fully in-memory. System: MS Visual Studio 2008 MS Windows Vista Home Premium x86 MPIR 2.1.0 rc2 4GB RAM Where might this error code originate from?
