• MVC without ORM is not real MVC?

  at the moment im integrating ORM (doctrine) into a MVC framework (codeigniter). then it hit me that this was the obvious way of setting up a MVC: the controller calls the models that are representing database tables. look at this picture: MVC + ORM then i wondered, how can a MVC without ORM be real MVC? cause then the models are not real objects, rather aggregations of different functions that perform CRUD, then returning the result to the controller. and there is no need for a state (object properties) i guess so the functions would be all static? correct me if im wrong on this one. i guess a lot of people are using models without ORM. please share your thoughts. how do your models look like?

• How can I enable/disable network connection options programmatically

  When I open the properties on a network connnection on windows, I see this dialog: In this dialog, in the check-listbox I can enable or disable options like "File or printer sharing", "client for microsoft networks" or network filter drivers. My question is: How can I enable/disable these options programatically? I didn't find anything that looks like this in the WMI documentation and I couldn't find any other Win32 API for this. I would prefer a C Win32 API or WMI interface, but a solution using any programming language is welcome. The question is language-agnostic.

• Ria Services loading foreign keys with Linq-to-SQL

  I have a database that consists of 5 tables : Course, Category, Location, CourseCategories, and CourseLocations. The last 2 tables just contain the two foreign keys. A Course has many-to-many relationships with both category and location. I am trying to load the data into a Silverlight app using Ria Services. My DB model is Linq-to-SQL. I have tried adding the [Include] attribute to the metadata classes and I have added the DataLoadOptions so it should load the all tables when you ask for a Course. However on the client side I am never getting back any entries in the CourseCategories and CourseLocations properties. What else needs to be done to get the foreign key relationships to exist across the serialization.

  Hello, I've subclassed some UITextField and added some custom properties. In a UITableViewController, in the ViewDiDLoad I init them, and in the cellForRowAtIndexPath I add them to the cell with [cell.contentView addSubview:customTextField]; Each cell has a different customTextField as all of them are very different. Where I should call the [customTextField release] ? After I add them to the cell view ? If for example I call [self.tableView reloadData] my customTextField are going to be added again to the cell, so maybe I should change my approach in doing this ? thanks for the orientation ... regards, r.

• Reintegrate a branch with externals fails in SVN

  What I am doing: Apply external properties to a folder in the trunk (both single file and folder external, externals are binary files) Create a branch from the trunk and update the entire project Modify a file on the branch and commit the changes, then update the entire project. Merge - "Reintegrate a branch" when I get to the last screen I click "test merge" and get this error: Error: Cannot reintegrate into mixed-revision working copy; try updating first I update the entire project and still the same error. Other observations: If I "Merge a range of revisions" everything works fine. If I remove the externals everything works fine using either "Merge a range of revisions" or "Reintegrate a branch". How do I solve this issue? I am using Subversion 1.6.6 with TortoiseSVN 1.6.6.

• Looking for a C# code parser

  I'm looking for a set of classes (preferably in the .net framework) that will parse C# code and return a list of functions with parameters, classes with their methods, properties etc. Ideally it would provide all that's needed to build my own intellisense. I have a feeling something like this should be in the .net framework, given all the reflection stuff they offer, but if not then an open source alternative is good enough. What I'm trying to build is basically something like Snippet Compiler, but with a twist. I'm trying to figure out how to get the code dom first. I tried googling for this but I'm not sure what the correct term for this is so I came up empty.

• Different results coming out of an init method than those expected. Why does this happen and how can

  When I run this method the two properties I have are set to (NULL) when I try and access them outside of the if statement.   Let's say we have 2 classes A and B public class A{ private int member1; A() { member1 = 10; } public getMember(){ return member1; } } Class B is also on the same lines except that its member variable is named member2 and gets intitialized to say 20 inside the constructor. My Requirement : At runtime , I get a string which contains a className ( could be A or B). I want to dynamically create an object of this class along with invoking the constructor. How can I achieve this . I don't want to use interfaces for common functionality of above classes Morever, later on I set the properties of this raw object using Propery Builder Bean Util class based on a list of columns . Class clazz = Class.forName("className"); Obj obj = clazz.newInstance(); How I can dynamically convert that obj to className object.

Perhaps using Java annotations (e.g., @Data)? Or rather some build entries in a build script or a properties file? Is there build tool that integrates and evaluates such information (Ant, Scons, ...)? Do you have examples? Consider the following scenario: A few lines of Ant create a Jar from my sources that includes everything found on the classpath. Then jarjar is used to remove all .class files that are not necessary to execute, say, class Foo. The problem is that all the data files that class Bar depends upon are still there in the Jar. The ideal deployment script, however, would recognize that the data files on which only class Bar depends can be removed while data files on which class Foo depends must be retained. Any hints?

  I've written a chrome extension to find text on a page based on a regex query. When text is matched, I wrap the matched text in a <span> tag that has the class highlight where highlight only changes the background color to yellow. The issue is that sometimes there are already styles applied to <span> tags in a webpage. For example, the webpage might have this defined: span { font-size: 200%; } So when I insert my <span> tag in another <span> tag, the font-size is actually 400%. Is there an easy way for my code to just change certain properties of the text, like the background color, without applying the webpage's styles twice?

• Linker Error: iPhone Unit Test Bundle referencing App classes

  Starting with an app already in development, I have carried out the instructions in the iPhone Development Guide – Unit Testing Applications I can successfully include and use my App's classes in Application-style tests that run on the device, and output their results to the console. If I add the following line of code: STAssertTrue([viewController isKindOfClass:[LoginViewController class]], @"Top view controller is not LoginViewController"); The following build error is generated: Undefined symbols: "_OBJC_CLASS_$_LoginViewController", referenced from: __objc_classrefs__DATA@0 in LoginViewTest.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I can provide more configuration information for the project and the Testing target, but the setup works file without the [LoginViewController class] line in the test source. Without that line, I can reference the class, use it's properties and send it messages successfully. Is there a linking build setting, or bundle loading option that is required when attempting to use an App class in this fashion? Or should I find another type of test to confirm that the class of an object is the expected one?

• NHibernate, each property is filled with a different select statement

  I'm retrieving a list of nhibernate entites which have relationships to other tables/entities. I've noticed instead of NHibernate performing JOINS and populating the properties, it retrieves the entity and then calls a select for each property. For example if a user can have many roles and I retrieve a user from the DB, Nhibernate retrieves the user and then populates the roles with another select statement. The problem is that I want to retrieve oh let's say a list of products which have various many-to-many relationships and relationships to items which have their own relationships. In the end I'm left with over a thousand DB calls to retrieve a list of 30 products. Thanks. I've also set default lazy loading to false because whenever I save the list of entities to a session, I get an error when trying to retrieve it on another page: LazyInitializationException: could not initialize proxy If anybody could shed any light I would truly appreciate it.   Based on the properties of the keydown event I would like to ascertain what the current charCode are? Example. For the keydown event when the NumPad0, D0, and Colon key is pressed I would like to know what the associated charcode is. Currently I have a map that contains the charcode associated with that keyCode or use the current if charCode is not specified. keyCode = { Colon: 186, D0: 48, NumPad0: 96, }; charCodes = { 186: 59, 96: 48, }; shiftCharCodes = { 186: 58, 48: 41 }; Also in certain cases the keyCodes are different accross browsers? Example. The keydown event has different keyCode values across browsers. • Publish web application from MSBuild Script using VS2010 targets resets working directory

  I am trying to automatically publish and deploy my .Net 4 web application automatically from a build script to be run by our continuous integration server. I am using the new _WPPCopyWebApplication target from VS2010 to perform the publish, however it appears to reset the current working directory of the msbuild project to c:\ this causes my prebuild steps to fail as they have relative paths to some external tools. The task I am running from our master.build file is as follows: <Target Name="PublishWeb"> <MSBuild Projects="$(ProjectPath)" Targets="ResolveReferences;_WPPCopyWebApplication" Properties="WebProjectOutputDir=$(DeployPath);OutDir=$(TempOutputFolder)$(WebOutputFolder)\;OutputPath=$(ProjectPath)\bin\Debug;" /> </Target> This does not happen when using the legacy _CopyWebApplication. • My C# program running as Windows Service is blocking Windows XP from hibernation

  I have Windows Service written in C#. It starts two threads, one is pooling a Web Service, second is waiting on a Monitor object for a new job to arrive. Besides that, the main thread acts as a WCF service host using NetNamedPipeBinding. It lets the client application to register a callback and then sends notifications back. The problem I have is that when this Windows Service is running, I cannot hibernate or Standby my computer which is running on Windows XP, SP3. When I set Windows to hibernate or standby, nothing happens. Then, at the moment when I go to Service Manager and stop the service, the system hibernation starts immediately. The service class extending the ServiceBase has properties like CanHandlePowerEvent, CanPauseAndContinue, etc. set to true... That didn't make any difference. The question is: what can be blocking the Hibernation/Standby from proceeding? What should I take care about to avoid it?

MyDataContext.RootProperty.SubProperty.Thing.Value) I have a (non-UI) requirement to accept such a path expressed as a simple string, and to use reflection on an object which is (hopefully) of a type which exposes the right property getters and setters in order to read and/or write values to those properties. Before I go off and start writing the parser and reflection code, is there a handy Framework 3.5 BCL class to help with this?

  Hello, Why is the binding icon (a small gray icon) not visible in blend for some properties even though they are DependencyProperties? For eg. I dragged a button on my page and dragged a textbox. I want to bind button's content property to textbox's text property. But i can't find the Binding icon in Blend. I know if i type the binding syntax in code it will work just fine.   AFAIK JSR-303 is the standard bean validation system. I don't know whether it could do validations like this (I guess no): if an object has a deleted flag set, you cannot modify the object you cannot change the start date property, after the date is passed you cannot decrease some integer properties in the bean So how can I handle validations, which depend on the previous state of an object? I would like to solve problems like that in hibernate3.5 - spring3 - JPA2 environment. Thanks My solution was to mess with hibernate, reload the object to see the old state (after evicting the new object). This time I need some smarter solution...

• After MS Access Conversion 97 --> 2002 I get 'Enter Parameter Value' when exitting a form.

  Hi, So when I exit a form from my newly converted .mdb it asks to Enter Parameter Value. It goes through (ie if i enter a value, it asks for another) the values required for a query that is run on a List Box on the page. The query has not been changed during the conversion. The values it is getting for the query are from text boxes on the same form. There are a few Requeries in the form (run from VB) so I imagine that it is rerunning again on Exit (although this isnt explicit in the form properties). I'm not quite sure how to go about solving this. Your help would be great. Thanks

• Visual Studio 2008 awful performance

  Hi, I have ported a piece of C++ code, that works out of core, from Linux(Ubuntu) to Windows(Vista) and I realized that it works about 50times slower on VS2008! I removed all the out of core parts and now I just have a piece of code that has nothing to do with the hard disk. I set compiler parameters to O2 in Project Properties but still get about 10times slower than g++ in linux! Does anybody have an idea why it is this much slower under VS? I really appreciate any kind of hint! Thanks,

  Hi, I have a form changeed the properties of my object CUSTOMER. Each customer has related ORDERS. The ORDER's table has a column customer_id which is used for the mapping. All works so far, I can read customers without any problem. When I now e.g. change the name of the CUSTOMER in the form (which does NOT show the orders), after saving the name is updated, but all relations in the ORDERS table are set to NULL (the customer_id for the items is set to NULL. How can I keep the relationship working? THX

• How can I access and modify objects inside frames with AS3 in a permanent way?

  I have a MovieClip symbol created with flash in a fla file library. There is a textfield in frame one of this movieclip's timeline . There is another frame in the movieclip timeline. There is a custon class definition for this symbol. It is a flipping card in a memory game. I access the textfield by going to frame 2 (gotoAndStop(2)) and setting the textfield's text property ( this.field.text = "hello" ). However if I go to frame 1 and then return to frame 2, the text becomes the original one in the library's symbol. I have to modify the text propery again in a showFace method I've written. Besides, I cannot pass parameters in the constructor because it is a symbol in the library and that would give errors. I find this behaviour of flash extremely weird. Is there a way I can set properties inside frames permanently? Thank you
