  • SEO: It's recommended to upload and put live a beta / non-finished version of web site??

    I'm working on this big website and I want to put it online before its fully finished... I'm working locally and the database is getting really big so I wanted to upload the website and continue to work on it in the server, but allowing people to enter, so I can test. The question is if this is good for SEO, I mean, there are a lot of things SEO related that are incomplete.. For example: there are no friendly URLs, no sitemap, no .htacces file, lot of 'in-construction' sections... Does Google will penalize me forever? How does it works? Google indexes adn get the structure of the site just once or its constantly updating and checking for changes??? What i should do? What you recommend?!!?

  • Extend Google AppEngine User in JRuby?

    I'm working with JRuby and DataMapper running on Google AppEngine. I want to add a property to the AppEngine::User like :active_calendar which is a reference to a Calendar kind. I was able to do something in Python this way using a back reference. Are these possible in JRuby? Is this possible? Do I need to subclass the User? Can I even do that? If so - how? Thanks!

  • Best Design for creating Historic Reports on GAE

    My App requires Daily reports based on various user activities. My current design does not sum the daily totals in database, which means I must compute them everytime. For example A report that shows Top 100 users based on the number of submissions they have made on a given day. For such a report If I have 50,000 users, what is the best way to create daily report? How to create monthly and yearly report with such data? If this is not a good design, then how to deal with such design decision when the metrics of the report are not clear during db design and by the time it is clear we already have huge data with limited parameters (fields). Please advice.

    I'm using Django's templating on appengine, and am having a problem whereby a class I'm importing from another package is not correctly being made available to the template context. Broadly speaking, this is the code. The prop1 is not available in the template in the first example below, but is in the second. MyClass is identical in both cases. This does not work: from module import MyClass context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) This does: class MyClass(object): def __init__(self): self.prop1 = "prop1" context = MyClass() self.response.out.write(template.render(path, context)) If I log the context in the above code I get: <module.MyClass object at 0x107b1e450> when it's imported, and: <__main__.MyClass object at 0x103759390> when it's defined in the same file. Any clues as to what might cause this kind of behaviour?

    I am using SQLite3 in C++, I found the opening time of sqlite seems unstable at the first time( I mean ,open windows and open the db at the first time) It takes a long tiom on 50M db, about 10s in windows? and vary on different times. Has any one met the same problem? I am writting an desktop application in windows, so the openning speed is really important for me.     I want to start with an example illustrating my question. For example if the car crashes, I do not need the drawdata and the movedata any more. So I need to delete the entries of this entity in all vectors. The entries are not linked by code.   • Best way to fix an out-of-sync TFS workspace after a back-up/restore

    Wednesday I had to restore from a back-up image I made on Monday. At the time of the snapshot I had about 20 files modified, which I later checked in, and more, on Tuesday. Now that I am back to a snapshot from Monday morning, my workspace has all of these files checked-out or added, etc. even my check-in comments and work-item associations. But I already did that check-in on Tuesday. I'm thinking I will shelve all the pending changes (just in-case), and then just undo all changes, and get latest (specific version). And I should be back to good. Any cautions or suggestions? (TFS 2008, VS2010)

    Hi, I have a rather large class stored in the datastore, for example a User class with lots of fields (I'm using java, omitting all decorations below example for clarity): @PersistenceCapable class User { private String username; private String city; private String state; private String country; private String favColor; } For some user queries, I only need the favColor property, but right now I'm doing this: SELECT FROM " + User.class.getName() + " WHERE username == 'bob' which should deserialize all of the entity properties. Is it possible to do something instead like: SELECT username, favColor FROM " + User.class.getName() + " WHERE username == 'bob' and then in this case, all of the returned User instances will only spend time deserializing the username and favColor properties, and not the city/state/country properties? If so, then I suppose all the other properties will be null (in the case of objects) or 0 for int/long/float? Thank you

    I was trying to understand how webkit parses urls, and I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of this: Vector<char, 4096> buffer(fragmentEnd * 3 + 1); This line is on line 1214 (you can see it here: http://trac.webkit.org/browser/trunk/WebCore/platform/KURL.cpp#L1214). I get that it's making a vector of type char, with each entry being an array of char 4096 bytes large, but I don't get the buffer(fragmentEnd * 3 + 1) part. I think that it confuses me most b/c I can't find where the buffer variable is instantiated anywhere (shouldn't it be something more like Vector<char, 4096> buffer = new Vector<char, 4096>(...)?   • Which web solution should I use for my project?

    I'm going to create a fairly large (from my point of view anyway) web project with a friend. We will create a site with roads and other road related info. Our calculations is that we will have around 100k items in our database. Each item will contain some information like location, name etc. (about 30 thing each). We are counting on having a few hundred thousand unique visitors per month. The 100k items and their locations (that will be searchable) will be the main part of the page but we will also have some articles, comments, news and later on some more social functions (accounts, forums, picture uploads etc.). We were going to use Google AppEngine to develop our project since it is really scalable and free (at least for a while). But I'm actually starting to doubt that AppEngine is right for us. It seems to be for webbapps and not sites like ours. Which system (language/framework etc.) would you guys recommend us to use? It doesn't really mater if we know the language since before (we like learning new stuff) but it would be good if it's something that is future proof.
