  • SQL Database dilemma : Optimize for Querying or Writing?

    - by Harry
I'm working on a personal project (Search engine) and have a bit of a dilemma. At the moment it is optimized for writing data to the search index and significantly slow for search queries. The DTA (Database Engine Tuning Adviser) recommends adding a couple of Indexed views inorder to speed up search queries. But this is to the detriment of writing new data to the DB. It seems I can't have one without the other! This is obviously not a new problem. What is a good strategy for this issue?

  • jquery - "click" on keypress?

    - by WonderBugger
    I have an ajax search form that works fine if you click "submit" in that you enter a zipcode, click the "Enter" button and up pops results instantly. I'm trying to make it so that if the user presses "enter" on the keyboard, it has the same effect. It looks like it's submitting, but no results come up... I tried: if($('#search').length) { $('#zipcode').keyup(function(e) { if(e.keyCode == 13) { e.preventDefault(); $('#search').submit(); } }); }

  • CSS/IE7: The Case of the Extending Background-Image

    - by dmr
    The situation: There a collapsible advanced search box. It is made up of a search box div that contains a boxhead div and a boxbody div. Inside the boxbody div, there is a searchToggle div. When the user clicks "Show/Hide", the display style property of the searchToggle div is toggled between block and none. (The search fields are hidden and the search boxbody gets much smaller). The 2 background-images for the body of the search box are set via the css of the searchBox div and the boxbody div. In IE7, when the searchToggle div is hidden, the background-image from the searchBox div extends on the left more than it should (see Here). It shows up correctly when the display of the searchToggle div is block (see Here). Everything show up correctly, in both cases, in IE8 and FF. The relevant HTML: <div class="searchBox"> <div class="boxhead"> <h2></h2> </div> <div class="boxbody"> <div id="searchToggle" name="searchToggle"> </div> </div> </div> The relevant CSS: .searchBox { margin: 0 auto; width: 700px; background: url(/images/myImageRight-r.gif) no-repeat bottom right; font-size: 100%; text-align: left; overflow: hidden; } .boxbody { margin: 0; padding: 5px 30px 31px; background-image: url(/images/myImageLeft.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; background-position: left bottom; }

  • How can I update a Jtextarea once? (mysql side-?)

    - by user1294196
Ok what I've been trying to do is figure out how to make it so when I press the search button on my program the code that is currently just being printed to the console will print to the text area I have. I can't figure out how to do this and I've searched google and still found no answer. • Lucene.Net - How to treat a space-seperated phrase as a single token?

    - by Gareth D
I've implemented a search facility using Lucene.Net. The index includes UK academic qualifications, including "A Level". I'd like the users to be able to search using the phrase "A Level", but using the Standrad Analyser the "A" is stripped out as a stop-word and therefore only "Level" is indexed/searched. What's my best option to work around this? I'm guessing I need to somehow tokenise "A Level" to "A-Level" or similar by creating a custom analyser. Is this the best approach? Note that I want don't want the whole search to be a phrase query. i.e. in my search box I want the user to be able to enter <"A Level" AND English Maths Physics and this would return any with "A Level" and either of English MAths or Physics. Question updated to reflect this.

  • Returning and printing string array index in C

    - by user1781966
I've got a function that searches through a list of names and I'm trying to get the search function to return the index of the array back to the main function and print out the starting location of the name found. Everything I've tried up to this point either crashes the program or results in strange output. Here is my search function: #include<stdio.h> #include<conio.h> #include<string.h> #define MAX_NAMELENGTH 10 #define MAX_NAMES 5 void initialize(char names[MAX_NAMES][MAX_NAMELENGTH], int Number_entrys, int i); int search(char names[MAX_NAMES][MAX_NAMELENGTH], int Number_entrys); int main() { char names[MAX_NAMES][MAX_NAMELENGTH]; int i, Number_entrys,search_result,x; printf("How many names would you like to enter to the list?\n"); scanf("%d",&Number_entrys); initialize(names,Number_entrys,i); search_result= search(names,Number_entrys); if (search_result==-1){ printf("Found no names.\n"); }else { printf("%s",search_result); } getch(); return 0; } void initialize(char names[MAX_NAMES][MAX_NAMELENGTH],int Number_entrys,int i) { if(Number_entrys>MAX_NAMES){ printf("Please choose a smaller entry\n"); }else{ for (i=0; i<Number_entrys;i++){ scanf("%s",names[i]); } } } int search(char names[MAX_NAMES][MAX_NAMELENGTH],int Number_entrys) { int x; char new_name[MAX_NAMELENGTH]; printf("Now enter a name in which you would like to search the list for\n"); scanf("%s",new_name); for(x = 0; x < Number_entrys; x++) { if ( strcmp( new_name, names[x] ) == 0 ) { return x; } } return -1; } Like I mentioned before I have tried a lot of different ways to try and fix this issue, but I cant seem to get them to work. Printing X like what I have above is just the last thing I tried, and therefor know that it doesn't work. Any suggestions on the simplest way to do this?

  • Rails 3: jQuery form not working.

    - by donald
Hi, I have jquery working on my Rails app using the gem 'jquery-rails'. I also have a search form working correctly. However, when I add :remote => true the form stops working. <%= form_tag services_path, :method => :get, :remote => true do %> <%= text_field_tag :search, params[:search] %> <%= submit_tag "Search", :name => nil %> </div> <% end %> I have also added a index.js.erb but it has no effect on it. For some reason the :remote = true makes the form to stop working. Any reason why? Thanks

  • Regex issue in rewriter config

    - by sgbinks
I'm having an issue with bad requests from certain search parameters. An example URL: http://www.foo.com/washington/forums/search/%26 Results in a bad request. The rewriter config line looks like this: <rewrite url="^(.*)/forums/search/(.*)" to="~/Pages/Forums/Overview.aspx?Address=$1&amp;q=$2" processing="stop" /> I'm thinking it's an issue with the Regex...? Thanks in advance!

  • PHP, how can I produce a string, a unique list of values up to three items, for use after IN in a query?

    - by Jules
I need to produce a string for use in an query e.g. SELECT whatever from Keywords.word IN (here); At the moment I have string which could be $search = "one word or four"; or $search = "one"; or $search = "one one"; I need to validate this into some acceptable for my query. I want a unique list of words, separated with a comma up to a maximum of three. This is what I have so far. $array = explode(" ",$search); $unique = array_unique ($array); I'm sure there must be a quicker way than evaluating each of the items for blank and selecting the first three.

  • When must arbitrary precision arithmetic functions be used in PHP?

    - by Tjorriemorrie
My colleague uses the Binary Calculator functions in bandwidth calculations; as much as terrabytes, and with percentage splitting on allocation. His usage of these functions appears correct in order not to lose a byte; although he seems to be using them now for everything. The manual only says: For arbitrary precision mathematics PHP offers the Binary Calculator which supports numbers of any size and precision, represented as strings. How much is any size? Is it really necessary? How big is the default float in PHP? Are there any good advice regarding this or things to keep in mind?

  • How to store and retrieve pictures using PHP?

    - by user1276898
I am building a webpage using PHP to search within my database. I am able to do a query and get the data to show on my page. I also have a picture that is related to each record. Let's say something like a picture ID for each employee. I am wondering what is the best way to store and retrieve pictures in order to get it show using PHP. Is there a way to store all the pictures in the subfolder like " image" and retrieve the pictures using PHP? I tried to search around on the internet, but I get confused. Also, when I type something in the search box and click the button, is there a way to keep the input in the search box without erasing it? Thank you very much.

  • Share variable across site ASP.NET

    - by Anders
I have a class isSearching with a single boolean property in a 'functions' file in my webapp. On my search page, I have a variable oSearchHandler declared as a Public Shared variable. How can I access the contents of oSearchHandler on other pages in my webapp? Code with Session.... 'search.aspx Public Function oSearchString(ByVal oTextBoxName As String) As String For Each oKey As String In Request.Form.AllKeys If oKey.Contains(oTextBoxName) Then Session.Add("searching", True) Session.Add("search-term", Request.Form(oKey)) Return Request.Form(oKey) End If Next Return "" End Function 'theMaster.master <% If Session("searching") Then %><ul style="float: right;"> <li> <div class="gsSearch"> <asp:TextBox ID="searchbox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> </div> </li> <li> <div class="gsSearch"> <asp:Button ID="searchbutton" runat="server" Text="search" UseSubmitBehavior="true" PostBackUrl="search.aspx" CssClass="searchBtn" /> </div> </li> </ul> <% End If %> I think that the session will work just fine.

  • Use textbox value on submit as a query string variable

    - by Eric
How would I take a text box value and use it in the query string on submit? I'd like it to start as this, /News?favorites=True and end up something like this after the user enters in a search and clicks search. /News?query=test&favorites=True The controller action looks like this public ActionResult Index(string query, bool favorites) { //search code } This question is something close to what I'd like to do, but I'd like to use the query string and maintain the existing values in the query string. Thanks.

  • 2 ajax forms on the same page posting same textbox

    - by rod
Hi All, Is it possible to post, say like a value in a textbox, to 2 different ajax forms that are on the same page? It doesn't have to be at the same time? What I'm trying to do is this: I have a search page that searches for customers and displays them on a paged grid. Users can specify up to 5 parameters (5 textboxes) to narrow the search. On the same page I have an export option. Well since I want all the customers for the search and not just the paged data I need a way to post back to the server for this option passing the same parameters used in the grid. I'm using a ViewModel which would be nice if I can pass that back to the server rather than the individual search fields that are backed by the view model. Thanks, rodchar

  • Mystery: How does Google do cross-domain iframe communication?

    - by Shraga
Hi everyone, When you host Googles web search element on a page, a div is created which incorporates an iframe which points to a Google adsense ads page. However, if there are no ads for the specific query, Google somehow changes the class on YOUR domain to render the div (and iframe) invisible. They are NOT using postMessage, as it also works in IE7. They are also not using the fragment identifier method, as no hash appears in the url. So how do they do it? To check what I'm saying just put the following into a regular html page: <!-- Google Custom Search Element --> <div id="cse" style="width:100%;">Loading</div> <script src="http://www.google.com/jsapi" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load('search', '1'); google.setOnLoadCallback(function(){ new google.search.CustomSearchControl().draw('cse'); }, true); </script> and then do a search for "cars" (or anything else that will definitely have ads) and then for "wzxv", which has no ads...

  • NVIDIA GFORCE 610M drivers

    - by thefinn93
I'm attempting to install drivers for my GFORCE 610M and none of the solutions seems to work. Generally people recommend using the jockey-gtk program, which doesn't detect the card and states that there's no propitiatory drivers to install. I tried download the official binary from the NVIDIA site, but that told me that I had to remove the Nouveau kernal driver, so I did that, following the instructions on the wiki (apt-get remove --purge xorg-something or other) and ignoring the "DON'T DO THIS" warning, after that didn't do anything i installed various packages (nvidia-common, nvidia-settings, etc) and eventually got the nvidia-settings program (and a very low screen resolution). Unfortunately when I open nvidia-settings it tells me to run nvidia-xconfig as root (i've done this several times, but to no avail) and doesn't let me configure anything. At this point I tried re-running the binary installer i downloaded from nvidia's site, and it said it worked but it didn't change a thing. So I'm out of ideas, what've you got?

  • Grails searchable plugin with hasMany

    - by user2624442
I am using grails searchable plugin to search my domain classes. However, I cannot yet search by my hasMany (skills and interests) fields even though they are of the simple type String. This is my domain class: class EmpactUser { static searchable = [except: ['dateCreated','password','enabled','accountExpired','accountLocked','passwordExpired']] String username String password boolean enabled = true boolean accountExpired boolean accountLocked boolean passwordExpired String email String firstName String lastName String address String phoneNumber String description byte[] avatar byte[] resume Date dateCreated static hasMany = [ skills : String, interests : String, // each user has the ability to list many skills and interests so that they can be matched with a project. ] static constraints = { username blank: false, unique: true password blank: false email email: true, blank: false firstName blank: false lastName blank: false description nullable: true address nullable: true avatar nullable: true, maxSize: 1024 * 1024 * 10 resume nullable: true, maxSize: 1024 * 1024 * 10 phoneNumber nullable: true, matches: "/[(][+]d{3}[)]d+/", maxSize: 30 } } This is the code I am using to search: def empactUserList = EmpactUser.search( searchQuery, [reload: false, result: "every", defaultOperator: "or"]) Am I missing something? • Joomla 2.5 disable and remove Smart Cache

I am maintaining a Joomla 2.5 based magazine website with 3-4 new, long articles every day. Smart Search was enabled by default and now I've got a few "finder" tables full of indexed phrases and therms. I wonder if there are any disadvantages if I'd: Disable the Smart Search plugin Remove these 'finder' tables completely Aha, we're using a Search field, which works fine, but I'm not sure what's going to happen if I disable the plugin and remove these tables. Will it then search for phrases in content Joomla tables or simply break w/o missing 'finder' tables Has anyone tried this before?

  • Best way to integrate searching with pagination

I have a web application build on cakephp 2.x. I have integrated pagination on my data. Now i want to implement searching on that data also, and pagination should work according to search result. Now my question is: Should i use a form to post my search string. If so, then which method should i use, GET or POST. OR, should i use javascript window.location method, and append the search string to it. If we use this method then search string can append more than once to url. Or any other best way to implement this. Can anybody give the best solution for this as it is a common task for each application to have.
