• Correct way to protect a private API key when versioning a python application on a public git repo

  I would like to open-source a python project on Github but it contains an API key that should not be distributed. I guess there's something better than removing the key each time a "push" is committed to the repo. Imagine a simplified foomodule.py : import urllib2 API_KEY = 'XXXXXXXXX' urllib2.urlopen("http://example.com/foo?id=123%s" % API_KEY ).read() What i'm thinking is: Move the API_KEY in a second key.py module importing it on foomodule.py; i would then add key.py on .gitignore file. Same as 1 but using ConfigParser Do you know a good programmatic way to handle this scenario?

• Import/commit to svn branch from a different codebase

  I am trying to migrate to svn from a not-so-famous version control system (lets call it nsfvc). svn trunk was created some time ago from nsfvc's trunk. There is an active branch in nsfvc that I have to import to svn branch. The diff between nsfvc's trunk and branch is huge (updates, renames, additions, deletions, moves). • Do you leave historical code commented out in classes that you update?

  When you need to obsolete a section of code (say either the business rules changed, or the old system has been reworked to use a new framework or something) do you delete it from the file or do you comment it out and then put in the new functionality? If you comment it out, do you leave a note stating why it was removed and what it was originally intended to do? I ask mainly because I've done a lot of contract work for different places over the years and sometimes it's like excavating a tomb to find the actual code that is still being used. Why comment it out and leave it in the file if source control has a record of what used to be there? If you comment out a method do you also comment out/delete any methods that were exclusively used by that method? What do you think the best practices for this should be?

• How to control a spaceship near a planet in Unity3D?

  Right now I have spaceship orbiting a small planet. I'm trying to make an effective control system for that spaceship, but it always end up spinning out of control. After spinning the ship to change direction, the thrusters thrust the wrong way. Normal airplane controls don't work, since the ship is able to leave the atmosphere and go to other planets, in the journey going "upside-down". Could someone please enlighten me on how to get thrusters to work the way they are supposed to?

  Hi all, I'm trying to create a continuous integration environment. To do so, I've used a guide that can be found at http://www.15seconds.com/issue/040621.htm. In this step by step, the goal is to create a CI with CCNet, NAnt, NUni, NDoc, FxCop and source safe. I've been able to create my build by using the command prompt (despite the the different versions issues). The problem has come with the configuration of ccnet.config I've made some changes because of the new versions, but I'm still getting errors when starting the CCNet server. Can anyone help me to fix this issue or point where to find a guide with this scenario? The error that I'm getting: Unable to instantiate CruiseControl projects from configuration document. Configuration document is likely missing Xml nodes required for properly populating CruiseControl configuration. • "Invalid form control" only in Google Chrome

  The code below works well in Safari but in Chrome and Firefox the form will not submit. Chrome console logs the error An invalid form control with name='' is not focusable. Any ideas? Note that whilst the controls below do not have names, they should have names at the time of submission, populated by the Javascript below. In other words, without adding x:Class to the top of Generic.xaml and thus creating a code-behind file for it, which I assume you wouldn't want to do, how do you handle events for elements in your xaml that don't have a Command property (which is just about everything other than a Button)? Should LooklessControl have it's own XAML file (much like what you get when you create a new UserControl) associated with it that Generic.xaml just pulls in as a MergedDictionar as its default template? Or is there some other acknowledged way to do what I'm trying to do?

• Two-way databinding of a custom templated asp.net control

  I hate long code snippets and I'm sorry about this one, but it turns out that this asp.net stuff can't get much shorter and it's so specific that I haven't been able to generalize it without a full code listing. I just want simple two-way, declarative, edit-only databinding to a single instance of an object. Not a list of objects of a type with a bunch of NotImplementedExceptions for Add, Delete, and Select, but just a single view-state persisted object. This is certainly something that can be done but I've struggled with an implementation for years. This newest, closest implementation was inspired by this article from 4-Guys-From-Rolla. Unfortunately, after implementing, I'm getting the following error and I don't know what I'm missing: System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. If I don't use Bind(), and only use Eval() functionality, it works. In that way, the error is especially confusing. Update: Actually, using Eval() does NOT work, but using <%# Container.SampleString %> works. However, Eval("SampleString") gives the same error. That leads me back to this article I found earlier but had discarded. Now I believe it might be related, though I haven't cracked it yet ... Then when I need to work on a portion such as the bibliography data, I would like to check that subdirectory out, modify it as necessary and merge it back.I would like the ability to check out one version to my home computer, and a different one to my work computer and make changes to each independently and eventually merge them back. I would also like to be able to check out a piece of code from this big project and import it with versioning into a separate project. If I may changes I'd like to be able to merge them back to the original project. • Winforms MVP with Castle Windsor - DI for subforms?

  I'm building a winforms app utilizing passive-view MVP and Castle Windsor as an IoC container. I'm still a little new to dependency injection and MVP, so I'm looking for some clarity... I have a main form which contains a number of user controls, and also will bring up other dialogs (ex. Login, options, etc) as needed. My first question is...should I use constructor injection to get the presenters for these other views into the main view, or should I go back to a Service Locator-type pattern? (which I've been told is a big nono!) Or something else? Second question...the user controls need to communicate back to the main form when they are "completed" (definition of that state varies based on the control). Is there a standard way of hooking these up? I was thinking perhaps just wiring up events between the main presenter and the child presenters, but I'm not sure if this is proper thinking. I'd appreciate any help, it seems that the combination of MVP and IoC in winforms isn't exactly well-documented.

  How to enable TextWrapping in the AutoCompleteBox control of the SilverlightToolkit (November 2009)? There is no property to set the wrapping mode. So is there any workaround? Sven Here are more infos about my current problem: To me the AutoCompleteBox consists of a list which displays all possible values and a TextBox where I enter a search string and display a selected value. I want now, that the selected value in the TextBox wraps.
