• Haystack / Whoosh Index Generation Error

  I'm trying to setup haystack with whoosh backend. When i try to gen the index [or any index command for that matter] i receive: TypeError: Item in ``from list'' not a string if i completely remove my search_indexes.py i get the same error [so i'm guessing it can't find that file at all] what might cause this error? it's set to autodiscover and i'm sure my app is installed because i'm currently using it. • jQuery set selected value in option box once the box has been loaded

  I want to preset the value of a selectbox based on a hidden field. I need this after an error has been detected in a form to avoid the user having to set the value themselves again. I do this by setting the value of a hidden field server side. The problem I have seems to be that the select box isn't done yet at the time I try to set the selected value.   I've got a drop-down where the user selects a Country. It is a required "field". Next to it, there is a textfield named State. If the user selects US, then the field State is required. If the user selects e.g. Sweden, the State is not required, since Sweden has no states. • Objective C: Create arrays from first array based on value

  I have an array of strings that are comma separated such as: Steve Jobs,12,CA Fake Name,21,CA Test Name,22,CA Bill Gates,44,WA Bill Nye,21,OR I have those values in an NSScanner object so that I can loop through the values and get each comma seperated value using objectAtIndex. So, what I would like to do, is group the array items into new arrays, based on a value, in this case, State. So, from those, I need to loop through, checking which state they are in, and push those into a new array, one array per state. CA Array: Steve Jobs,12,CA Fake Name,21,CA Test Name,22,CA WA Array: Bill Gates,44,WA OR Array: Bill Nye,21,OR So in the end, I would have 3 new arrays, one for each state. Also, if there were additional states used in the first array, those should have new arrays created also. Any help would be appreciated!

• My linux server takes more than an hour to boot. Suggestions?

  I am building a CentOS 5.4 system that boots off a compact flash card using a card reader that emulates an IDE drive. It literally takes about an hour to boot. The ultra-slow part occurs when Grub is loading the kernel. Once that's done, the rest of the boot process only takes about a minute to get to a login prompt. Does anyone have any suggestions? I suspect that it may have to do with UDMA. Everything IDE-related in my BIOS seems to checkout. The read performance hdparm is telling me 1.77 MB/s. Ouch! I am working on an application where I have a long listing of different states approximately 20 states and each state consisting of several zones in addition to the weather forcast of each zone eventually. Now the thing is that I have already created the Listing of hardcore data in a list view of all the states. Again I need to add the hardcore data of several zones for each state(min 4 to 5 zones/ state). So , now I am wondering that whether I have to create the separate classes with hardcore names of all the zones in each state or is there any easy way out for doing the same.   I am trying to use Multi-Layer NN to implement probability function in Partially Observable Markov Process.. I thought inputs to the NN would be: current state, selected action, result state; The output is a probability in [0,1] (prob. that performing selected action on current state will lead to result state) In training, I fed the inputs stated before, into the NN, and I taught it the output=1.0 for each case that already occurred. The problem : For nearly all test case the output probability is near 0.95.. no output was under 0.9 ! Even for nearly impossible results, it gave that high prob. PS:I think this is because I taught it happened cases only, but not un-happened ones.. But I can not at each step in the episode teach it the output=0.0 for every un-happened action! Any suggestions how to over come this problem? Or may be another way to use NN or to implement prob function? Thanks

• Is ASP.NET MVC is really MVC? Or how to separate model from controller?

  Hi all, This question is a bit rhetorical. At some point i got a feeling that ASP.NET MVC is not that authentic implementation of MVC pattern. Or i didn't understood it. Consider following domain: electric bulb, switch and motion detector. They are connected together and when you enter the room motion detector switches on the bulb. If i want to represent them as MVC: switch is model, because it holds the state and contains logic bulb is view, because it presents the state of model to human motion detector is controller, because it converts user actions to generic model commands Switch has one private field (On/Off) as a State and two methods (PressOn, PressOff). If you call PressOn when it is Off it goes to On, if you call it again state doesn't change. Bulb can be replaced with buzzer, motion detector with timer or button, but the model still represent the same logic. Eventually system will have same behavior. This is how i understand classical MVC decomposition, please correct me if i am wrong. Now let's decompose it in ASP.Net MVC way. Bulb is still a view Controller will be switch + motion detector Model is some object that will just pass state to bulb. So the logic that defines behavior moves to controller. Question 1: Is my understanding of MVC and ASP.NET MVC correct? Question 2: If yes, do you agree that ASP.NET MVC is not 100% accurate implementation? And back to life. The final question is how to separate model from controller in case of ASP.NET MVC. There can be two extremes. Controller does basic stuff and call model to do all the logic. Another is controller does all the logic and model is just something like class with properties that is mapped to DB. Question 3: Where should i draw the line between this extremes? How to balance?   An example: a permit must be examined by two lawyers and one engineer. If any of those three reject it, the process enters a "rejected" end state. If all three grant the permit, it enters a "granted" end state. All three examiners may examine simultaneously, or in any order. Once one engineer has granted it, it shouldn't be available to be examined by an engineer; once two lawyers have examined it, it shouldn't be available to lawyers; once one engineer and two lawyers have examined it should go to the granted end state. My initial thinking is that either I have a overly complicated state transition diagram, with "the same" intermediate states multiply repeated, or I carry (external) state with the process { bool rejected; int engineerSignoffId; int lawyer1SignoffId; int lawyer2SignoffId}. Or something like this? If so, how does the engineer's rejection terminate the subprocess that is in "Lawyers"? START->FORK->Engineer->Granted?---------------->Y->JOIN-->Granted |->Lawyers-->Granted?->by 2 lawyers?->Y---^ ^ | |--------------------------N What's the canonical jBPM answer to this?
