• why is nautilus slow?

  I'm wondering why Nautilus is very slow when opening a directory containing lots of files. My /usr/lib dir for example has 1900 files and it takes approximately 5+ seconds to show everything. It has been like this since I installed Ubuntu few months ago and it's really quite annoying sometimes. I don't have powerful hardware but I know that Windows Explorer is so much faster than this. Is there anything that can be done to speed it up? Ubuntu 10.04

  I want to migrate an Apache setup to Nginx, but I can't get the rewrite rules working in Nginx. • How do I upgrade mongodb 1.8 to 2.2 on ubuntu?

  Following this guide: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-ubuntu/ I ended up with mongodb 18 on my Ubuntu 10.04. I've just read the 2.2 mongodb release notes on upgrading and it says to just replace the binary. Would that be /usr/lib/mongodb/mongod ? It looks like the 2.2 tar has several files I might need to copy over: mongo, mongod, mongoexport, mongodump, mongofiles, mongoimport, mongorestore, mongos, xulwrapper Can I just copy and paste all of those over to replace the old versions of those files?

• iPhone keyboard's return key will move curser to next textfield

  Hello Fellow Koder ••• I have a TableViewController that is using a grouped Style and has two(2) sections. The first section has 4 rows and the second section has 3 rows. I have placed a UILabel and a UITextField in each cell, and have a custom method(textFieldDone:) to handle the cursor movement to the next text field when the return key is press. • Mixed-mode C++/CLI crashing: heap corruption in atexit (static destructor registration)

  I am working on deploying a program and the codebase is a mixture of C++/CLI and C#. The C++/CLI comes in all flavors: native, mixed (/clr), and safe (/clr:safe). In my development environment I create a DLL of all the C++/CLI code and reference that from the C# code (EXE). This method works flawlessly. For my releases that I want to release a single executable (simply stating that "why not just have a DLL and EXE separate?" is not acceptable). So far I have succeeded in compiling the EXE with all the different sources. However, when I run it I get the "XXXX has stopped working" dialog with options to Check online, Close and Debug. The problem details are as follows: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Fault Module Name: StackHash_8d25 Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16559 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ba9b29c Exception Code: c0000374 Exception Offset: 000cdc9b OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 8d25 Additional Information 2: 8d25552d834e8c143c43cf1d7f83abb8 Additional Information 3: 7450 Additional Information 4: 74509ce510cd821216ce477edd86119c If I debug and send it to Visual Studio, it reports: Unhandled exception at 0x77d2dc9b in XXX.exe: A heap has been corrupted Choosing break results in it stopping at ntdll.dll!77d2dc9b() with no additional information. If I tell Visual Studio to continue, the program starts up fine and seems to work without incident, probably since a debugger is now attached. What do you make of this? How do I avoid this heap corruption? The program seems to work fine except for this. It seems that the CRT atexit function is responsible, being inadvertently required due to the static initializer. Fix As Ben Voigt pointed out the use of any CRT functions (including native static initializers) requires proper initialization of the CRT (which happens in mainCRTStartup, WinMainCRTStartup, or _DllMainCRTStartup). I have added a mixed C++/CLI file that has a C++ main or WinMain: using namespace System; [STAThread] // required if using an STA COM objects (such as drag-n-drop or file dialogs) int main() { // or "int __stdcall WinMain(void*, void*, wchar_t**, int)" for GUI applications array<String^> ^args_orig = Environment::GetCommandLineArgs(); int l = args_orig->Length - 1; // required to remove first argument (program name) array<String^> ^args = gcnew array<String^>(l); if (l > 0) Array::Copy(args_orig, 1, args, 0, l); return XXX::CUI::Program::Main(args); // return XXX::GUI::Program::Main(args); } After doing this, the program now gets a little further, but still has issues (which will be addressed elsewhere): When the program is solely in C# it works fine, along with whenever it is just calling C++/CLI methods, getting C++/CLI properties, and creating managed C++/CLI objects Events added by C# into the C++/CLI code never fire (even though they should) One other weird error is that an exception happens is a InvalidCastException saying can't cast from X to X (where X is the same as X...) However since the heap corruption is fixed (by getting the CRT initialized) the question is done.

• How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

  I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. I never meant to imply that it was the JVM itself that was faulty.   Hi everyone. I used the code provided by the NoteExample from the developers doc to create a database. Now I want to add a second table to store different data. • Can't create admin user on Heroku

  I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. • Search function fails because it refers to the wrong controller action?

• Rails - session information being cleared?

  Hi! I'm having a weird issue that I can't track down... For context, I have resources of Users, Registries, and Giftlines. Each User has many Registries. Each Registry has many Giftlines. It's a belongs to association for them in a reverse manner. What is basically happening, is that when I am creating a giftline, the giftline itself is created properly, and linked to its associated Registry properly, but then in the process of being redirected back to the Registry show page, the session[:user_id] variable is cleared and I'm logged out. As far as I can tell, where it goes wrong is here in the registries_controller: def show @registry = Registry.find(params[:id]) @user = User.find(@registry.user_id) if (params[:user_id] && (@user.login != params[:user_id]) ) flash[:notice] = "User #{params[:user_id]} does not have such a registry." redirect_to user_registries_path(session[:user_id]) end end Now, to be clear, I can do a show of the registry normally, and nothing weird happens. It's only when I've added a giftline does the session[:user_id] variable get cleared. I used the debugger and this is what seems to be happening. • Is Multicast broken for Android 2.0.1 (currently on the DROID) or am I missing something?

  This code works perfectly in Ubuntu, in Windows and MacOSX, it also works fine with a Nexus-One currently running firmware 2.1.1. I start sending and listening multicast datagrams, and all the computers and the Nexus-One will see each other perfectly. Then I run the same code on a Droid (Firmware 2.0.1), and everybody will get the packets sent by the Droid, but the droid will listen only to it's own packets. This is the run() method of a thread that's constantly listening on a Multicast group for incoming packets sent to that group. I'm running my tests on a local network where I have multicast support enabled in the router. Tried various combinations of putting the entire jquery.dialog code in the registerstartup script, or just trying to change the autoOpen property, or just calling "open" on it. I can't even get a simple alert to work with any of these, so I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what it is. Here is what I know: The Jquery is binding properly even on async postbacks, because the div container that is the dialog box is always invisible, I saw a similiar post on here stating that was causing an issue, this isn't the case here. Using page_load instead of document.ready since that is supposed to run on both async and normal postbacks, so that isn't the issue. The update panel is updating correctly because <p>Did register Pass? <%= registrationComplete %></p> updates to true after I submit the form. So how can I make this work? All I want is - click submit button inside an update panel - run server side code to validate form and insert into db - if everything succeeded, have that jquery (modal) dialog pop up saying hey it worked.

• uiscrollview not switching image subviews

  I'm building a comic viewer app, that consists of two view controllers, the root viewcontroller basically displays a view where a user decides what comic they want to read by pressing a button. The second viewController actually displays the comic as a uiscrollview with a toolbar and a title at the top. So the problem I am having is that the comic image panels themselves are not changing from whatever the first comic you go to if you select another comic after viewing the first one. The way I set it up, and I admit it's not exactly mvc, so please don't hate, anyway the way I set it up is each comic uiscrollview consists of x number of jpg images where each comic set's image names have a common prefix and then a number like 'funny1.jpg', 'funny2.jpg', 'funny3.jpg' and 'soda1.jpg', 'soda2.jpg', 'soda3.jpg', etc... so when a user selects a comic to view in the root controller it makes a call to the delegate and sets ivars on instances of the comicviewcontroller that belongs to the delegate (mainDelegate.comicViewController.property) I set the number of panels in that comic, the comic name for the title label, and the image prefix. The number of images changes(or at least the number that you can scroll through), and the title changes but for some reason the images are the same ones as whatever comic you clicked on initially. I'm basing this whole app off of the 'scrolling' code sample from apple. I thought if I added a viewWillAppear:(BOOL) animated call to the comicViewController everytime the user clicked the button that would fix it but it didn't, after all that is where the scrollview is laid out. • How to create a Facebook-App style notifications custom table?

  I want to add a custom table to my iPhone app, that should look and work like the one used in the facebook app showing the notifications. It should contain rows with links in it. The text should be black, while the tap-able parts should appear blue. As a already figured out, labels only have one font, color and so on and you can't mix styles within it, I would have to use different components. The tab-able text parts maybe UIButtons with custom style without any border. I tried different approches to build the custom cell. I used Interface Builder, to layout components, but since the different parts have variable lengths they overlaid each other. I also tried to add instances of UIButton and UILabel as a subview to the cell's contentView as descibed in Apple's tutorial. The problem with this is that: The position and size of the components is fix and set when they get created using "initWithFrame:...".   Hi I am importing the contacts from gmail to my page .....
