• How to configure SQLite db in Visual Studio

  I've messed with Access a little bit in the past, had one class on OO theory, and one class on console c++ apps. Now, as a hobby project, I'm undertaking to write an actual app, which will be a database app using System.Data.SQLite and C#. I have the db's table structure planned. I have System.Data.SQLite installed and connected to VS Pro. I entered my tables and columns in VS, but that's where I'm stuck. I really don't know how to finish the db set up so I can start creating queries and testing the db structure. Can someone give me guidance to online resources that will help me learn how to get the db properly set up so I can proceed with testing it? I'm hoping for online resources specific to beginners using C# and System.Data.SQLite, but I'll use the closest I can get. Thanks.

Example, when should I consider using static vs dynamic libraries. How to properly design an ABI to cope with either one. Header files: what to partition out and when. Examples on when to use 1:1 vs 1:many .h to .c Anything you feel I missed but is important when attempting to architect a new C project. Ideally, I'd like to see some example projects ranging from small to large and see how the architecture changes depending on project size, function or customer.   I need to build a DSL Solution using MsBuild and want to be able to transform the TT files, I have tried the guide on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee847423(VS.100).aspx but I am getting the following errors: Failed to resolve include text for file:{0} and also Loading the include file '{0}' returned a null or empty string. There is a page on MSDN which has these issues and there resolutions : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb126242(VS.100).aspx but don't really give me enough information to resolve the issue. One thing to note in the error it has the following path: Error 72 Failed to resolve include text for file:C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\Dsl\ToolboxHelper.tt. Line=-1, Column=-1 Dsl but the location of the actual TT file is C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\ToolboxHelper.tt

• Winforms control that works like ajax tag-completion

  Heya, I want to create a winforms app where you can assign tags to an entity. ofc I want the customer to re-use existing tags a lot. That's why I want to show them the list of tags while they are typing (similar to intellisense in VS and the tags-dropdown even here in stackoverflow ;)) do you have any control(s) in mind that offers this functionality? can I reuse a ComboBox for this? (here I need to drop it down programatically - how?) I want to have the taglist getting input-focus but not lose the mainform-focus, and I want it to be on top over all windows and even range out of the mainform-area (like intellisense in vs) thx!

• SVN post commit stucks while starting process

  Hi, I've built a script in VS that receives the 2 arguments sent by post-commit hook. The script runs SVN LOG to retrieve data about the revision (author, date, files). When I run the solution from VS with constant vars for the arguments, it runs perfectly. When I execute the exe file, also runs perfectly. • Inserting snippets from macros

  In Visual Studio 2008 I had a macro which would insert a snippet and input today's date in one of the replacements. When I try to run this macro in VS 2010 it doesn't work. No matter how I try it will not insert a snippet. When I try the following command: DTE.ExecuteCommand("Edit.InvokeSnippetFromShortcut", "snippetName") This fails with error "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. I tried recording a new macro and when I pressed the keyboard shortcut for inserting a snippet (Ctrl+K, Ctrl+X) VS gave the error "The command Insert Snippet is not currently available." Did MS remove the ability to insert snippets from macros? If so this really is a shame because macros have functionality not found in snippets and vice versa.

  Hi, I got a problem migrating from VS.Net 2008 / MVC 1 to VS.NET 2010 (+C# 4.0) / MVC 2 The web.config has been updated, the site runs well in Cassini, but my problem now is deploying on IIS 6. I updated the web site to run using ASP.Net 4, but whatever URL I try, I always have a 404 error. It's as if the routing was not taken into account (yes, the wildcard mapping has been done). I do not understand this mess and could not google anything interesting... Thanks for your suggestions ! O.

  Hi, I am working with Entity Framework 4.0 (VS 2010 Beta 2, NOT RC). I can model the EDM and produce the required database. When I ask VS to generate the code for the model, it generates the expected .designer.cs file. When I look at the factory methods for each entity that the designer has generated, I've noticed that it doesn't include all of the properties of the entity. Is it correct to say that the factory method only includes properties that cannot be null ? This appears to be the case, but I'm not entirely sure. Thanks, Scott

  I am building an application which is based on a sample application, written in C# on .NET 2, and is built on VS2008. This application is mostly a wrapper for a COM application. However I compile it in .NET 3.5. The sample application came with the following files in it's bin\debug: appName.vshost.exe appName.vshost.exe.manifest I noticed that I can delete the files and VS re-builds vshost.exe, and the vshost.manifest file appears with modification date the same as the deleted file as if VS has copied in from somewhere. My question is, should I put this files in my SVN code repository?

• Why does MSBuild fail from the command line where VS2008 succeeds?

  I have an ASP.NET solution that builds just fine from within VS2008. However , it fails when i do this : MSBUILD.exe c:\path-to-sln It fails with a CS0006 error ("Metadata file 'dll_name' could not be found"). It also fails when I try with a .csproj of a project within the solution. What is VS2008 doing that MSBuild is missing ? It is my understanding that VS knows about inter assembly dependencies that MSBuild cant. Is there any way I can inform MSBuild of these? (I need MSBuild to work from the command line because I am calling it from an MSBuild-Task from within CruiseControl.Net.)   Hi, I have a created a sample web role application using cloud service. Before hosting my application in cloud, i want to test the application in dev fabric. I am sure that when we run the application from VS, it creates an environment that simulates the cloud. But if i want to give my application for testing to QA, do i still need to give my source to them and run the application from VS under dev fabric or do we any other way in running my deployed package under dev fabric.   I'm using MS Visual Studio 2008, OpenCV, C++ and SVM for a OCR-related project. At least I can run the code until yesterday, when I open the project to continue working, VS reported this error: error C2664: 'bool CvSVM::train(const CvMat *,const CvMat *,const CvMat *,const CvMat *,CvSVMParams)' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'cv::Mat' to 'const CvMat *' It didn't happen before and I haven't changed any code relating to it (I only changed the parameters for the kernel). The code got error is: Mat curTrainData, curTrainLabel; CvSVM svm; . . . svm.train(curTrainData, curTrainLabel, Mat(), Mat(), params); If I hover on the code, I still got this tip: image. Which means my syntax isn't wrong. So why do VS bother to report such an error?

I gone through many tutorials about deployment, I tried VS 2008 setup and deployment, but after installation it only runs in my machine and not in others..sometimes it shows error(The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine(that machine had both VS2008 and MS Access installed)). • Visual Studio 2008 freezing when editing aspx/master pages

  Visual Studio freezes up continually when I'm editing master pages or aspx files. Here's what I've tried that have not helped: restarting VS only working with few files open at a time Disabled all addins (resharper etc.) deleted .suo and .user files changed default editor from Web Form Editor and Master Page Editor to HTML Editor installed SP1 I don't have tons of files - 3 Master pages and maybe 30 aspx files. It is a asp.net mvc project. All I have to do to get VS to freeze is type a little text or even just paste. The freezing lasts a good 5-10 seconds. My machine has 4GB of RAM and fast disks. Could it have anything to do with asp.net mvc? Would the amount and size of other projects in the solution affect the editor?

In order to use ctypes/Python, I'm converting the project to a DLL. I started a VS project as a DLL and imported the original source code. The project builds into a DLL, but none of the functions (including functions such as the one listed above) are exported (as confirmed by both the absence of dllexport in the source code and tools such as DLL Export Viewer). I tried to follow the general advice here (create an exportable wrapper function within the header) to no avail...functions still don't appear to be exported.

  I have some confusion related to the .NET platform build options in VS 2008 Does anyone have a clear understanding what does "Any CPU" compilation target is and what sort of files it generates? I examined the output executable of this "Any CPU" build and found that they are (who would not see that coming!) the x86 executables. So, is there any the difference between targeting executable to x86 vs "Any CPU"? Another thing that I noticed, is that managed C++ projects do not have this platform as option. I'm wondering why is that. Does that mean that my suspicion about "Any CPU" executables being plain 32-bit ones is right?

  Seems like I'm missing something simple, but my attempts to connect to SQL Server Express have failed. I feel like I need to add privileges for my account but I'm not sure where to do it. Dev Env: VS 2010 (Web) SQL: Sql Server Express 2008 OS: XP Trying to open a connection to database returns: Cannot open database "|DataDirectory|DropData.mdf" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'devel.' I created the database using the interface in VS 2010 (Add new item - DB File) but my ASP.Net class only covered design-time access and not access in code, so I'm not familiar with what to do. I created a user (Devel) using SQL Server Management Studio to avoid connecting as SA, but couldn't figure out how to give any SQL-level access rights to this account. Any ideas? Thanks, Cameron

• Dealing with unwanted port numbers on localhost when debugging in Visual Studio

  So when I'm trying to debug a project in Visual Studio, I'll often have 1 or more services that I need to call. These services are separate projects and I'll launch them in separate instances of VS. ASP dev server kindly launches them with temporary port numbers attached. This would be fine except for my programs are looking for an IP without a port attached. (Typically it's as simple as "localhost"!) I've coped by using web config settings and changing the xml to use the port number while debugging. This still doesn't always work and occasionally I'll still have to fudge it and insert port numbers as strings in code! UGH! Then I have to remember to undo all the port herding code before deployment... I want to stop doing this: string _strBaseURL = String.Format("http://{0}:2277", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["myservice_ip"].ToString()); What is the best practice here? Am I doomed to port herding while debugging VS apps?
