• Java - Reg. Ex. File Question

  I'm grabbing lines from a text file and sifting line by line using regular expressions. I'm trying to search for blank lines, meaning nothing or just whitespace. However, what exactly is empty space? I know that whitespace is \s but what is a line that is nothing at all? null (\0)? newline (\n)? I tried the test harness in the Java tutorial to try and test to see what an empty space is but no luck so far.

• GLOB_BRACE portability?

  In this question, I was made aware of glob()'s GLOB_BRACE option that allows for a limited set of regular expressions when searching for files. This looks just like what I need, but according to the manual, GLOB_BRACE is "not available on some Non-GNU Operating systems." Among those seems to be Solaris. I am building an application that is supposed to be as portable as possible, so I need to check out possible problems as early as possible. Does somebody know of other platforms apart from Solaris where GLOB_BRACE is not supported? How about Mac OS = X for example? It's built on top of a Unix. Is every Unix automatically a "GNU" platform as defined in the manual?

• What's the RegEx to make sure that delimiters are escaped?

  I'm looking for a regular expression that will check whether or not delimiters in a string are escaped with a backward slash. The delimiters I am concerned about are comma (\,), colon (\:), semicolon (\;) and of course the backward slash itself has to be escaped (\). For example, the string "test" should return a match because there are no delimiters in it, and no escaping is necessary. The string "te\;st" would return a match because the semicolon delimiter is escaped. "te;st" and "t\;s:t" would both fail because the both contain at least one delimiter that is not escaped. I know that I need a conditional and a positive look behind, and this is what I have so far, but it is not giving me the expected answer. ^(?<delimiter>[:;,\\])?(?(delimiter)\(?<=(?:\\\\)*\\)k<delimiter>|.)$ Any suggestions on how I can make this work? • SQL: Is it quicker to insert sorted data into a table?

  A table in Sybase has a unique varchar(32) column, and a few other columns. It is indexed on this column too. At regular intervals, I need to truncate it, and repopulate it with fresh data from other tables. insert into MyTable select list_of_columns from OtherTable where some_simple_conditions order by MyUniqueId If we are dealing with a few thousand rows, would it help speed up the insert if we have the order by clause for the select? If so, would this gain in time compensate for the extra time needed to order the select query? I could try this out, but currently my data set is small and the results don't say much.

• Basic Python While loop compound conditional evaluation

  In Python IDLE Shell it seems I cannot use a compound conditional expression and a while loop. I tried it within brackets too. k=0 m=0 while k<10 & m<10: print k k +=1 m+=1 If I write while k<10: print k k+=1 This does work. Is there a way I could achieve the first block of code with the "and" operator. I have done it in Java. Do I just need to put together "if" statements to achieve the same functionality in Python?

• Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

  I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)?   In a very very limited number of scenarios, I need to go from an unknown Type (at compile time) to an instance of the object registered for that type. For the most part, I use typed factories and I know the type I want to resolve at compile time...so I inject a Func<IMyType> into a constructor ...but in these limited number of scenarios, in order to avoid a direct call to the container (and thus having to reference Windsor from the library, which is an anti-pattern I'd like to avoid), I need to inject a Func<Type,object>...which I want to internally container.Resolve(type) for the Type parameter of the Func. Does anyone have some suggestions on the easiest/most straightforward way of setting this up? I tried the following, but with this setup, I end up bypassing the regular TypedFactoryFacility altogether which is definitely not what I want: Kernel.Register(Component.For(typeof (Func<Type, object>)).LifeStyle.Singleton.UsingFactoryMethod( (kernel, componentModel, creationContext) => kernel.Resolve(/* not sure what to put here... */))); Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  Hi, I want to make functions Double - Double an instance of the Num typeclass. I want to define the sum of two functions as sum of their images. So I wrote instance Num Function where f + g = (\ x - (f x) + (g x)) Here the compiler complains he can´t tell whether I´m using Prelude.+ or Module.+ in the lambda expression. So I imported Prelude qualified as P and wrote instance Num Function where f + g = (\ x - (f x) P.+ (g x)) This compiles just fine, but when I try to add two functions in GHCi the interpreter complains again he can´t tell whether I´m using Prelude.+ or Module.+. Is there any way I can solve this problem?

• How to recalculate primary index?

  I have table in mysql database with autoincrement PRIMARY KEY. On regular basis rows in this table are being deleted an added. So the result is that value of PK of the latest row is growing very fast, but there is not so much rows in this table. What I want to do is to "recalculate" PK in this way, that the first row has PK = 1, second PK = 2 and so on. There are no external dependencies on PK of this table so it would be "safe". Is there anyway it can be done using only mysql queries/tools? Or I have to do it from my code?

  I want to change the link-style for some of my links, like this: a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } However, I only want this to take effect in my Navigation Bar, and not for regular links. I have tried variations on this: #navbar a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } With the intended meaning "this only applies to links with <div id="navbar">" But it didn't work. How can I set the style for only certain links, defined by the class or id of their container?

• Which Subversion do I install for Windows?

I would have just downloaded the first entry but I am afraid it would break my server or something if I don't have apache. We use IIS only and I wouldn't want to break it somehow. I don't even need a web or webdav front end. They may be confusing at first but if one gets used to the syntax, it is much better than nested complicated for loops. • DB2 increase bufferpool size and compressed tables not equal better performance. Why?

  Hi, I’m working on tuning and increasing the performance of my IBM DB2 version 9.7 database. I’ve been searching around the net for the last couple of days and learned that if I created my tables in COMPRESS mode and created one more bufferpool and set both of them to access 1024mb, then the performance in my queries should increase because of the less I/Os to the disks. However, when I run my time analysis, the performance Decrease. I added the new additions to my regular database with the indexes I’ve used all the time. Each time I search google I come up with the statement that: Increased bufferpool size and several bufferpools AND a table compression SHOULD prove to get better performance. I’m very puzzled about the total unexpected result. Are there some tuning mechanisms I’ve forgot or does anyone have a explanation for this odd behavior? Sincerely Mestika

  I want to use Where method in Linq 2 entities that will be equal to this userRepository.Users.Where(u=>u.RoleID == 1 || u=>u.RoldID == 2).Select(o => new SelectListItem { Text = o.Role.RoleName, Value = o.RoleID.ToString() }).ToList(); The problem of course is in Where(u=u.RoleID == 1 || u=u.RoldID == 2) The problem is that I don't know how to use WHERE method with OR inside the WHERE clause. any ideas (the code above will not compile of-course b/c of the lambda expression. userRepository.Users returns an list of Users entities. I guess that and can be done using concatenation of .Where().Where() but I need an OR.

  I've inherited some C# code that contains about a thousand lines of source that I need to modify, transforming it from this: newDataRow["to_dir"] = comboBox108.Text; To this: assetAttributes.Add("to_dir", comboBox108.Text); The lines occur in various places throughout the application in groups of 40 or 50. Modifying each line by hand in Visual Studio 2008 can be done but it's labor intensive and prone to errors. Is there a Windows utility out there that will let me cut and paste groups of code into it and then run some sort of reg-ex expression to transform the individual lines one-by-one? I'd also be willing to use some sort of VS 2008 add-in that performed the same set of reg-ex operations against a selection of code. Thanks in advance.

Maybe this is really a question about eval(), since that's how with.default() is implemented.
