  When I plug in my usb mobile broadband modem (ZTE MF-667), in the network manager instead of a mobile broadband connection, I get an ethernet connection, called: Ethernet Network (ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM), which of course doesn't work. The two usb ports on the left work just fine. EDIT: I just updated my bios from 1.32 to 1.39, no change in behaviour. The port does not even power up my devices. EDIT 2: Booted up windows, and the port is working. I went into the device manager and looked at the USB settings. I found my USB drive on Port 2, Hub 3, i just don't know how that relates to the Bus and Device numbers of linux. In windows, Smart card reader was on USB hub located at port 1 hub 2, fingerprint and bluetooth were on USB hub located at port 1 hub 1 EDIT 3: Went and looked at this SO post. Tried to look at my kern.log file with tail -f /var/log/kern.log. Got some activity when plugging/removing devices in other ports, but nothing happens when connecting a device into that port. It really looks disabled. Looked at my usb1-4 sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control and they are all set on auto. As expected, usb4 have version 3.00, the others (usb1-usb3) are 2.00.

  I just built a WebLogic 10.3.6 cluster with EM and JRF checked in the domain extensions. Next I installed ADR 11.1.1.7 by first installing ADR 11.1.1.6, then patching the environment and running upgradeADF in wlst. All seems well except I cannot start EM. The application transitions to STATE_ADMIN, but then fails with the exception below.   I have a service run under daemontools defined like: /service/myservice/run = #!/bin/sh exec setuidgid someuser somecommand Now, if I run this as a script directly from a root shell, somecommand will get a correct ulimit (unlimited). However, when I start the service using svc -u /service/myservice then somecommand does get a ulimit effectively slightly above 11000. How can I have somecommand get the correct ulimit even when started via svc (not from a shell)? This is on FreeBSD 9 release.

  From Windows Server 2008+, wuauserv is no longer a service that's ran all of the time and is instead ran as a scheduled task. I'm not sure of the exact behavior of how the scheduled task is created as it seems the schedule is generated and edited by another service. Prior to this, we setup nagios to just check for the running service to ensure it was accepting updates. My question is, how does one track the proper execution/running of wuauserv service in Windows Server 2008+ to ensure it is accepting updates with nagios?

  I have setup my Ubuntu machine to synchronize Tomboy notes with the Ubuntu One service. I'm now trying Tomboy on Windows and it would be great to have it sync with Ubuntu One. However, while Tomboy for Ubuntu does expose a 'Ubuntu One' service for synchronization, version 1.2.0 of Tomboy for Windows does not. I can, however, use a "Tomboy Web" service. Does Ubuntu One behave as a Tomboy Web service and how would I configure it to do so?

• Some services refusing to start on Win 7 machine. What could the root cause be?

  When I check msconfig, there are no services that are blocked from starting up. When I look in services.msc, the problem services have a start up type of 'Automatic', but have a blank space where others will show 'Started'. Attempting to start them manually results in the following pop up error messages. I have no idea what's causing this, looks like some sort of cascade effect from another problem service. It's affecting scheduled tasks, SQL server agent and windows back up services. How can I resolve this? I don't know how to work out what the root cause is. Task Scheduler Service Start Error: "Windows could not start the Task Scheduler service on local computer. 1068: The dependecy service or group failed to start. SQL Server Service Start Error: "The SQL Server Agent service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." UPDATE: I've just noticed some other services have a description of "Failed to Read Description. Error Code: 2" They are: NetMsmqActivator, NetPipeActivator, NetTcpActivator, NetTcpPortSharing UPDATE 2: As joeqwerty says the Event Log service does seem to be the root of the problem. This service will not start either. It fails with 'Error 31 - A device attached to the system is not functioning correctly'. I've tried detaching all devices. You can find step-by-step instructions on removing the filters on about.com" I followed the advice through to checking every component in device manager separately, but everything is reported as working correctly!? These services did all work at one point. The hardware set up hasn't changed much. Guess I'm looking at a repair install maybe???!
