• Oracle 10g on MacOS Snow Leopard

  Hi guys, I've found this helpful tutorial on web http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/09/14/how-to-install-oracle-database-10g-on-mac-os-x-snow-leopard/ I've followed all steps, but, I've a problem with netca run. When I'll start it, crash with this error: Invalid memory access of location 00000014 eip=11069523 /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/jdk/jre/bin/java: line 2: 10323 Bus error /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Home/bin/java -d32 -Xbootclasspath/a:/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/jdk/jre/lib/ext:/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/jdk/lib/ext $* and the error message on popup show that the problem is with libnjni10.jnilib plugin. On snow leopard there is only Java 1.6 but I've installed also JDK1.5 and I've changed the symbolic link for 1.4.2 to run the 1.5 Any idea? thanks a lot! Andrea

• Flexbuilder won't launch...arrrgh!

  In a panic since I'm trying to meet a deadline so appreciate any feedback on this. For some reason, Flexbuilder 3 on my mac won't launch, crashes on startup. I've never experienced this before. Checked the .log file and what seems to be the problem is the following /Users/foo/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust/flexbuilder.fbr (No such file or directory) WTF is the flexbuilder.fbr??? Googled but not much luck. The only thing I've done that might have caused this is change flash player versions system wide using the official flash player uninstaller...but obviously this should not happen Any feedback appreciated...

• DirectX application doesn't work over Remote Desktop

  I have a WPF application which has a DirectX component within it. This component does not work over Remote Desktop--it just shows a corrupted image. The application works fine when not using Remote Desktop. In trying to debug the problem I installed the February 2010 DirectX SDK. Now, when I run the program on the computer with the SDK and Remote Desktop to it from a separate computer, the component works just fine. However the opposite does not work--trying to use the application over Remote Desktop when it is running on the computer without the DirectX SDK (it has the original problem with the corrupted image). I have already compared the loaded DLLs (using Process Explorer) between running the application on my SDK machine and non-SDK machine. They both are loading the same DLL versions. What else could be causing this behavior?

• How do I rotate only some views when working with a uinavigationcontroller as a tab of a uitabbarcon

  Here is a flow that I can not figure out how to work. ( when I state (working) it means that in that current state the rules for orientation for that view are working correctly) First View: TableView on the stack of a UINavigationController that is a tab of UITabBarController. TableView is only allowed to be portrait. (working) When you rotate the TableView to landscape a modal comes up with a custom UIView that is like a coverflow (which i'll explain the problem there in a moment). A Selection made on tableview pushes a UIScrollview on to the stack. UIScrollView is allowed all orientations. (working) When UIScrollView is in landscape mode and the user hits back they are taken to the custom UIView that is like the coverflow and only allows landscape. The problem is here. Because the UIScrollView allows full rotation it permitted the TableView to rotate as well to landscape. I have a method attached to a notification "UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotification" that checks to see if the custom view is the current controller and if it is and if the user has rotated back to portrait I need to pop the custom view and show the table view. The table view has to rotate back to portrait, which really is okay as long as the user doesn't see it. When I create custom animations it works pretty good except for some odd invisible black box that seems to rotate with the device right before I fade out the customview to the tableview. Further inorder to ensure that my tableview will rotate to portrait I have to allow the customview to support all orientations because the system looks to the current view (in my code) as to whether or not that app is allowed to rotate to a certain orientation. Because of this I many proposed solutions will show the customview rotating to portrait as the table view comes back to focus. My other problem is very similar. If you are viewing the tableview and rotate the modalview of the customview is presented. When you make a selection on this view it pushes the UIScrollview onto the stack, but because the Tableview only supports portrait the UIScrollview comes in in portrait while the device is in landscape mode. How can I overcome these awful blocks? This is my current attempt: When it comes to working with UITabBarController the system really only cares what the tabbarcontroller has to say about rotation. Currently whenever a view loads it reports it supported orientations. It is responsible for poping the customview and showing the tableview. There are two different versions in place that originally were for two different versions of the SDK but both are pretty close to solutions. The reason the first is not supported on 3.0 is for some reason you can't have a view showing and then showen as a modal view. Not sure if that is a bug or a feature.   SHGetKnownFolderPath() and its cohorts accept one of the constants defined here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd378457%28v=VS.85%29.aspx ), returning the path to a directory. I'm looking for one of these folders which is reliably writable by all users (including LocalSystem) on XP, Vista, and Windows 7... but I think I'm striking out. It appears that, in fact, there is no single location on the hard drive anymore where you can put a file and be assured that all users can write to it on all these OS versions, without fiddling the permissions first. Is this true?

• Configuring Pydev Interpreter in Eclipse to use Enthought Python Distribution

  I downloaded Pydev plugin for Eclipse (3.5.2) today on Mac OSX 10.5.8. To be able to use Pydev, I need to configure the interpreter in Eclipse. I am not clear what exactly I need to do here, or what this step does. I want to make sure that when I run programs from Eclipse using Pydev, it uses the Enthought Python Distribution (EPD) I have installed, and can use all the packages that come with EPD. Can someone please tell me simple steps that I need to follow. If I click on autoconfig, it shows a bunch of folders with the path /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.Framework/Versions/2.5/... But I know that the Python that came with EPD is version 2.6.4, so autoconfig is not choosing EPD. Thanks for any help.

• Create Excel (.XLS and .XLSX) file from C#

  What is the best tool for creating an Excel Spreadsheet with C#. Ideally, I would like open source so I don't have to add any third party dependencies to my code, and I would like to avoid using Excel directly to create the file (using OLE Automation.) The .CSV file solution is easy, and is the current way I am handling this, but I but I would like to control the output formats. EDIT: I am still looking at these to see the best alternative for my solution. Interop will work, but it requires Excel to be on the machine you are using. Also the OLEDB method is intriguing, but may not yield much more than what I can achieve with CSV files. I will look more into the 2003 xml format, but that also puts a Excel 2003 requirement on the file. I am currently looking at a port of the PEAR (PHP library) Excel Writer that will allow some pretty good XLS data and formatting and it is in the Excel_97 compatible format that all modern versions of Excel support. But I think a work like that deserves more. Full colour illustrations. Main text on the left-hand page, sidebars on the right. (Stick in a few cartoons, or a slice of onion, when there aren’t any sidebars.) A built-in MP3 player and headphones for the soundtrack, but made completely out of telephone wires. Whilst that might be wishing for too much, have you (ever) seen any decent print versions of the book available?

• Is Visual Studio 2010 WebDev WebServer (Cassini) 64-bit compatible?

  I'm now developing on Visual Studio 2008 on a 64-bit OS (Windows Server 2008 64-bit). While the apps I write are 64-bit capable, as is IIS7, the built-in ASP.NET Development Server (aka Cassini aka WebDev.Webserver.exe) runs as 32-bit. This brings up a plethora of issues, such as: 32-bit and 64-bit applications have separate HKLM\Software registry homes There are 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the SQL Server Client Network Utility Other fun surprises I haven't discovered but I'm sure will spring up While I am finding workarounds for most of this, I have to ask... Does anyone who has played with the Visual Studio 2010 preview bits on 64-bit architecture know if the development web servers can handle 64-bit, and if so, are there options for which mode to run it in? (Like a checkbox in the project properties, for instance)

• Cannot change font size in Tk

  Hello, I'm trying, for the first time, to create a GUI in Ruby using Tk. I've copied a code snippet from one of the numerous web tutorials and try to change the font for one of the labels, but nothing seems to affect how the text is presented. Here's the code: require 'tk' root = TkRoot.new('title'=>'MCIS') defaultFont = TkFont.new("weight"=>'bold', "size"=>20) Lbl = TkLabel.new(root) do text "Boooo" borderwidth 5 font defaultFont foreground "red" relief "groove" grid('column'=>3, 'row'=>0) end Tk.mainloop() I see the effects of all the parameters of the label but not the font. I've tried to change the size, the weight, give different family names, leave just one parameter; nothing works - the font stays default as it was. Surprisingly it doesn't report any errors, everything looks fine. Maybe it's versions problem? I run these: Linux Centos 5 Tk 8.4.13 Ruby 1.8.5 ruby-tcltk 1.8.5 Also, don't know if it is important, I ran it via Xming from WinXP machine.

• [android] Screen Orientation Landscape back to Portrait not working

  Hello, I've racked my brain for hours over this issue. I have created a main.xml and designed one for the res/layout-land (landscape) format and another one for portrait in res/layout. When I rotate the emulator (ctrl-F11), my app rotates properly to landscape using the correct main.xml, but a subsequent rotation back to portrait just keeps the landscape mail.xml. This was done in a 2.0 AVD.. Out of despiration I downloaded the new Sample Code for Multiple Resolutions and had to create a new 2.1 AVD, to my surprise rotation with this app works correctly as expected. So I then decided to try my app on the 2.1 AVD and it works perfectly. So, is this a Bug in a 2.0 AVD or is there something special I need to be doing for < 2.1 SDK versions? This is driving me crazy because no where did anyone mention this issue. Thanks in advance

  I have a Python module that I would like to upload to PyPI. So far, it is working for Python 2.x. It shouldn't be too hard to write a version for 3.x now. But, after following guidelines for making modules in these places: Distributing Python Modules The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Packaging it's not clear to me how to support multiple source distributions for different versions of Python, and it's not clear if/how PyPI could support it. I envisage I would have separate code for: 2.x 2.6 (maybe, as a special case to use the new buffer API) 3.x How is it possible to set up a Python module in PyPI so that someone can do: easy_install modulename and it will install the right thing whether the user is using 2.x or 3.x?

• MySQL query returns different set of results on two identical databases

  I exported a live MySQL database (running mysql 5.0.45) to a local copy (running mysql 5.1.33) with no errors upon import. There is a view in the database, that when executed locally, returns a different set of data than when executed remotely. It's returning 32 results instead of 63. When I execute the raw sql, the same problem occurs. I've inspected the data in all tables being joined, and the counts are the same. The query is simple and has no where conditions - but about 10 joins. Aside from the differences in mysql versions... I can't find any reason that this query would return different results between databases... since they are effectively exact copies. Has anyone experienced a problem like this before?

  Hi. I've got a very annoying problem with my Zend studio. I have a zend framework project I am working on. The actual zend framework code is inside my project (in library folder) and then ZS seems to reference to its own version of zend framework. As the result, I get 2 versions of the same function/class in my intellisense which is annoying to say the least. Today I had the last drop of patience with zend studio when I showed 4 copies of the same class (imagine what's its like looking at a large namespace times 4!). So, how do I remove all references inside ZS to its own version of ZF? Thanks!

  I've tried these phones: Moto Backflip 1.5, Nexus One 2.1 Basically I register BroadcastReceiver to get ACTION_HEADSET_PLUG broadcast and look on 3 extras that come in intent: state name microphone Here is the description from API: * state - 0 for unplugged, 1 for plugged. * name - Headset type, human readable string * microphone - 1 if headset has a microphone, 0 otherwise Issue #1: Broadcast comes when activity is started (not expected), when screen rotation happens (not expected) and when headset/headphones plugged/unplugged (expected). Issue #2: Backflip phone sends null for state + microphone, 'No Device' as name when headset/headphones unplugged, and sends null for state + microphone, 'Stereo HeadSet'/'Stereo HeadPhones' as name when headset/headphones plugged. Nexus even worse, it always sends null for state + microphone, 'Headset' as name when headset/headphones plugged or unplugged. Question: How it can be explained that API is broken so much on both 1.5 and 2.1 versions and different devices, manufactures?

I've written the __init__.py file so that it tries to import the C extension, and if that fails, it imports the pure Python code (is that reasonable?). Now, I'd like to know what is the best way to distribute this module (e.g. write setup.py) so it can be easily used by people with or without the facility to build, or use, the C extension. My experience is limited but I see two possible cases: User does not have MS Visual Studio, or the GCC compiler suite, installed on their machine, to build the C extension User is running IronPython, Jython, or anything other than CPython. I only have used CPython. So I'm not sure how I could distribute this module so that it would work smoothly and be easy to install on those platforms, if they're unable to use the C extension.

• Good IDE for Mono on Windows

  I would like to develop Mono application for Win/Linux/Mac in C# on Windows. Is there any really good (Visual Studio comparable) IDE for that? The best would be if I could manage Visual C# Express to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. I've found a #develop IDE, which looks very cool and has many features that Express edition of the Visual Studio hasn't (like plugins for TortoiseSVN, NUnit, etc). Hovewer the 3.* versions dropped support for Mono, so you are no longer able to compile solutions using the Mono compiler. There is also a MonoDevelop. I've tried it and it sucks. Not comparable to Visual Studio at all. No WinForms designer, + tons of other missing features. I would just like if they would drop the development of MonoDevelop and build a plugin for #develop instead. Is there any other good enough IDE, or is it possible to make the Visual C# Express or #develop compile the solutions with Mono compiler?

  Repository pattern - Switch out the database and switch in XML files. Hello I have an asp.net MVC 2.0 project and I have followed the Repository pattern. Periodically, I am losing access to the database server so I want to have another mechanism in place (XML files) to continue developing. It is not possible to have a local version of the db unfortunately! I thought this would be relatively easy using the Repository pattern, to switch out the db repositories and switch in XML versions. However, I am having real trouble coming up with a solution. I have tried LinqToXML but then ran into problems trying to return a List of News items as the LinqToXML ToList returns Generic.List Should I be mapping the XElement list over to the News list by hand? It just seems a bit clunky compared to LinqToSQL attributes on the News class and then simply doing a Table.....ToList(); Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks

  Are "Visual Studio Setup" Projects suitable for complex setups in different versions? The application is rather large ( 500.000 lines of code) and is under continuous development. Every 6 to 10 month a new version gets released. We have multiple configuration files (INI and XML), registry keys, database migration scripts, etc. The application is in the progress of being migrated from VB6 to .NET . The old installer was build with Installshield. The feedback to Installshield is: Bad adaptability, bad reuse - thats way we are evaluating "Visual Studio Setup" as an alternative. Other products we consider: Free Solutions WiX NSIS Commercial Solutions Installshield (again..) Wise Advanced Installer sth. missing? Solutions we don't like to consider: Inno Setup (It just doesn't feel right)
