• Printable Version of Google Visualizations DataTable

  I have a custom routing application that takes information for a route from google maps. It then creates a Google Visualizations DataTable to hold all the steps in the route. My current problem is that in order to reduce overflow for very large routes, I have enabled paging in the options of the DataTable. This leads to a not so printer friendly version because only the portion of the data that is shown in the table will be printed. The other portions of the table are loaded dynamically by the API when you click prev and next. Is there a not so hard way to get the DataTable to be printer friendly when it comes time without sacrificing the ability to have paging enabled?

• Enable multiple audio output on Windows 7

  For Windows 7, 64 bit: I have a digital SPDIF output to my stereo, which controls speakers in other rooms. I also have a set of speakers connected to the regular audio jack at the computer. This allows me to send music to the kitchen while my child plays games on the computer. Works great. Except when I'm playing games and still want to listen to music. ;-D I know I can manually switch WMP to play through the speakers instead of SPDIF, but I was wondering if there's any way to enable simultaneous audio out in Windows 7? Virtual Audio Card is a non-starter because I'm running 64 bits and the VAC driver isn't signed.

  I've used the following code to map https://live.example.com on to http://example.com/api Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} =on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^live\.example\.com [NC] RewriteRule (.+)$ "http://example.com/api/$1" [L,P] The following url: https://live.example.com/userlinks/xml/John%20James/MvPjeUTo15/ Is suppose to map onto: http://example.com/api/userlinks/xml/John%20James/MvPjeUTo15/ Instead it maps it to: http://example.com/api/userlinks/xml/John So it seems to cut it at the space. I am using the Codeigniter framework but I am not sure if the problem lies there. Also using %20 or just a space in the url bar produces no different results.   Hi there So, say I have a string to parse with a given format that maps to a tree like data structure. The string is kinda similar to a folder path, and the structure is similar to a file structure, except its got some rules so for something@cat1@otherSomething you would get /something/cat1/otherSomething for something@cat2@otherSomething you would get /something/cat2/otherSomething other examples /OtherThing/cat1/otherSomething/Blah /OtherThing/cat4/otherSomething Where something, cat1, otherSomethign, etc are some sort of instances of ICategory There are certain rules that control what subcategories are valid and which subcategories are not acceptable, at the moment I m considering a heavy Object hierachy, but I know this is not a flexible solution, I d prefer the categories to be a bit more general but again, since there are rules about what can go next I m not sure how to do this. An example of a rule can be: OtherThing can only have subcategories cat1 and cat4 ( anything else is invalid) An option would be to use some sort of convention based aproach to instantiate a particular class given a subsection of the string(like cat4) but it seems a bit too complex, I m all ears Thanks

I have decided to do something on adaptive websites that implements customisation, personalisation and basically adaptation via heat maps and weblogs. So for a prototype i would be designing a website for tertairy level students and see if these technologies improve the usbability of the site. i would model it after my school's website. So here's the question, What would be a better language to use.. i have some knowledge in struts 2 framework and some knowledge in php. could say a newbie at both.. so i was wondering what would be the easier and faster way to go. php or the struts2 framework? thanks.

• Error using Session in IIS

  After deployment of my website to IIS I'm getting a following error message when trying to access session: Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. Please also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the \\ section in the application configuration. I access it in Page_Load or PreRender events (I tried both versions). With VS Dev Server it works without a problem. I tried both InProc an SessionState storage, 1 and multiple woker processes. I added a enableSessionState = "true" to my webpage explicitly. • javascript memory leak

  I have a some javascript (used with google maps api) that I am testing on IE and Chrome and noticed memory leak symptoms in IE only: when I refresh the page continuously, the amount of memory used in IE keeps growing (fast), but in Chrome it stays constant. Without posting all of the code (as it is rather long), can I get some suggestions as to what to look out for? What could cause the memory to keep growing like this in IE on page refreshes? Like I said I know its hard without code, but I'd like to see if any generic advice works first. Thanks.

• AsyncPostBackTrigger Just flashing/flicking the UpdatePanel but not updating it

  I am trying UpdatePanel & AsyncPostBackTrigger on master pages through find control method but problem is when I click on button (UpdateButton) It just flash/flick (No Postback) the UpdatePanle but still it don't update or refresh the gridview (images) inside the updatePanel. I have placed script Manger on the master page & an AJAX Update panel in a ContentPlaceHolder in the child page. Also, in another ContentPlaceholder there is an asp button (outside of the UpdatePanel). I want to refresh/reload the AJAX UpdatePanel with this asp button. Thanks for suggestions. • Problem with asp.net mvc route not firing when in <script> tag

  I cannot get the following route to fire when a url is requested from a script tag. I'm currently leaning towards partitioning them by geographic location. To improve the locality of data, users will be separated into regions e.g. North America, South America and so on. • UI View Controller crashes after interruption

  Given the multitasking of iOS I thought it wouldn't be a pain to pause and resume my app, by pressing the home button or due to a phone call, but for a particular view controller it crashes. The navigation bar is working fine i.e. when I tap "Back" it's ok, but if I try to tap controls of the displayed UI View Controller then I get EXC_BAD_ACCESS.. =/ Please find the code of my problematic View Controller below. • Adjusting color on one monitor in Nvidia Surround

  I'm currently running three 2560x1440 screens using Nvidia Surround. Two monitors are Yamakasi Catleaps (cheap Korean jobs) and the third is the Achievia Shimian (also Korean). The Catleaps have great color reproduction, however the Shimian is exceptionally blue tinted. With normal monitors the required correction would require minimal effort to accomplish. But these Korean monitors do not have hardware controls to do it. For those who are unfamiliar, Nvidia Surround basically takes all three monitors and makes one big "monitor" out of all of them (Xinerama for GNU/Linux folk), at a resolution of 7680x1440 in my situation. Therefore, adjusting the color profile in the Nvidia control panel changes the settings for ALL of the monitors simultaneously. Thus, I am looking for some software to adjust the Shimian (perhaps by just selecting the pixels that that monitor encompasses). Does anyone know of such a program?

• Macbook Pro (SantaRosa) internal display not detected by graphics card, external monitor OK

  My MacBook Pro (2.4 Ghz, Santa Rosa with infamous nVidia card) acts strange. It shows the normal gray screen with Apple logo and animation flawlessly during start up but the internal display goes black without any rendering at all when all is loaded. (shining a light on display show nothing) If an external monitor is connected through the DVI port it will remain black during start up and then show the desktop as the internal display goes black. This happens both while booting to Mountain Lion and Windows XP. I have checked "About my Mac" and only the external display is listed. The same is the case if I use the nVidia Control panel in Windows XP. My questions: Is this a hardware problem or is it related to software maybe even firmware? What controls the display during start up, graphics card or something else?

  (Specifically, org.codehaus.groovy.util.AbstractConcurrentMap) While doing some profiling of our application thats mixed Java/Groovy, I'm seeing a lot of references to the AbstractConcurrentMap class, none of which are explicit in the code base. Does groovy use this class when maps are instantiated in the groovy dynamic def myMap = [:] style? Are there rules somewhere about when groovy chooses to use this as opposed to, say, java.util.HashMap? And does anyone have any performance information comparing the two? My rough "eyeball check" says that AbstractConcurrentMap seems to be much slower - anyone know if I'm right?

• Long running, polling, queueing process for Python. What's the best stuff to use?

  Feel free to close and/or redirect if this has been asked, but here's my situation: I've got an application that will require doing a bunch of small units of work (polling a web service until something is done, then parsing about 1MB worth of XML and putting it in a database). I want to have a simple async queueing mechanism that'll poll for work to do in a queue, execute the units of work that need to be done, and have the flexibility to allow for spawning multiple worker processes so these units of work can be done in parallel. (Bonus if there's some kind of event framework that would also me to listen for when work is complete.) I'm sure there is stuff to do this. Am I describing Twisted? I poked through the documentation, I'm just not sure exactly how my problems maps onto their framework, but I haven't spent much time with it. Should I just look at the multiprocess libraries in Python? Something else?

• How to trim/cut clips with VLC

  I am running VLC 1.1.5 64-bit on Mac OS X 10.6.6. On the web I found instructions saying I should click on Video-Advanced Controls in the menu bar to reveal options that let me trim and cut video clips. However, there is no such option in my copy of VLC. What I want to do is cut a ~2 minute portion from the middle of a two hour footage (in MXF format that QuickTime can't open) that I've got. Is there another way to trim and cut clips of videos in VLC? Or should I use other (preferably free, Free, and open source) software? Thanks.

• How can I try a new language or framework without installing it?

  With so many languages and frameworks that exist, and with new ones appearing all the time, I don't have the time to download, install, and configure each one to evaluate it. In the past I've run across webapps that allow one to write or paste code into a window, and see the results in realtime in the browser, usually in a tutorial setting. What are your favorite sandbox sites for a given technology? Edit: @fretj provided the link to the excellent Google Code Playground (+1 upvote), but I thought that it was just for experimenting with Google's own apps (Search, Maps, Earth, Language, etc). But it turns out that it contains a few hidden gems: In addition to their apps, you can try out the many Javascript libraries that they host including jQuery, jQuery UI, MooTools, Dojo, and Prototype Scriptaculous. They're all hidden under the Libraries category in the "Pick an API" box. I overlooked the category because I thought it was for an app called Google Libraries. There's also a Javascript category for Javascript itself.

• Android google.navigation Intent Modes?

  I'm currently developing an application that will launch a navigation intent. I know that this isn't an official API, but it works perfectly the way I want it to. I allow the user to select driving, walking, and bus navigation to a location. The intent to launch directly into Google Maps Navigation looks like this: google.navigation:ll= + a latitude and longitude, then + &mode= then your mode of transportation. For example, to navigate using walking directions to a certain area: google.navigation:ll=blah,blah&mode=w Driving is default, or &mode=d, and biking is &mode=b, but I can't figure out bus (public transit). Has anyone done this before? Thanks! Edit: So far, I've found that mode=public gives bike directions, mode=transit gives driving, frustratingly, mode=bus also returns bike directions.

  Hey guys Just wondering what you'd suggest as the best platform for developing a business application for a tablet device. The application needs to be multitouch, have access to a maps API, a database on the device. It will not be going on sale in the app store or Androids market, it is purely for specific business task and not for the general consumer. Obviously the options seem to be iPhone OS and the iPad or Android and an Android tablet device. The form factor for the end product requires something in the region of 8 inch+ screen and enough processing power to provide a good experience for the end user. Any help would be much appreciated. I put the map "setup" in the controller: @map = GMap.new("div_map") @map.control_init(:large_map => true, :map_type => true) @map.center_zoom_init([47.0, 26.0], 7) ... And only render @map in the view. So my first question is whether I am using the right approach of "diving" this code? And the second question is: I have to models, which are rendering the same map (only the resources are different). Where should I put my refactored method that renders the map? In the application controller, maybe? Thanks in advance, I hope you will understand me!

  Hi, I have read the doc and some tutorials to get a .kml file working launching the google maps activity. When I hosted the file in a server, this works perfectly: Intent myIntent = new Intent( android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("geo:0,0?q=http://somedomain.com/file.kml") ); Now, reading this link on how to use intents for gmaps with the developing stage of GEO uri I can't manage how to load a kml file from within the device, I have tried with "q=file:///path-to-file.kml" and with an absolute path too. Has anyone done this yet? PS: in IRC channel recommend me to use apps based on openstreetmaps, but the docs is much more poor than the gmaps doc althought they are OS.

  Hi Friends, I am using a iPhone 3g. I am in India(I got it in India). I just tried to check my location using the Google Maps. My location was spotted when I had sim in my phone. But when I took out the SIM from iPhone, I did not get my location. I tried the same with the Locate me Sample Application . So can someone explain how GPS works in iPhone, and how to fix my problem(to get my location when there is no SIM). Thanks and Regards, krishnan

• iframe height not taken into account by IE8

  Hi guys, I'm building a dummy widget for a iGoogle/Netvibes like portal. This is a "Google Maps" widget, as it only renders a map centered on a specific location. The widget looks good in all browsers but IE8, in which the height I specify to the <div> that contains the map is not taken into account. Here's the interesting part of the code: <body onload="initialize()" > <div id="map_canvas" style="height:400px; width: 100%;"></div> </body> I have no control on the portal, so the only thing I can modify is the widget itself. I also tried to set the height for the <body>, but same thing. Any idea on why it's not working in IE? Thanks!

Here's how you might write a function that does a kind of set intersection by returning a list of keys occurring in all the hashes passed to it: @common = inter( \%foo, \%bar, \%joe ); sub inter { my %seen; for my $href (@_) { while (my $k = each %$href) { $seen{$k}++; } } return grep { $seen{$_} == @_ } keys %seen; } I understand that %seen is a hash which maps each key to the number of times it was encountered in any of the hashes provided to the function.
