  • Laptop keyboard stopped functioning properly

    Basically today out of blue my laptop keyboard started acting up. For example I press "s" but I see "`s" on the screen. Some keys don't work at all. And the weird thing is it keeps changing, in a sense that for example in the morning I press "s" and I get "`s", then few hours later "s" works correctly.. but pressing some other key output multiple characters. Then sometimes it spontaneously will start outputting some character onto any input field that is available as soon as I click on it to gain focus. And it will just keep on going and going, as if I keep a button pressed (which I don't). At first I thought this was a virus, but I have a dual boot of Windows 7 and Ubuntu, and I get same problem on both. I even tried to boo live CD, and still had same problem. Anyone had this kind of problem? It's a Toshiba Satellite c660-258. It is around year old, but quite well kept. Never spilled anything on it, or dropped it. And my wireless USB keyboard works perfectly on it (appart from the spontaneous character inputs, which I can stop by hitting NUM LOCK key)

  • where is my disk space?

    I recently had a problem with .xsession-errors file - it became very big ( 90GB) and took all disk space: How I can check what takes disk space in /tmp?. I cleaned it with command > .xsession-errors but after an hour it became large again.   • Get more space for redis in unix server

    In our app we have only windows servers beside the cases we use redis queues. This case , we use unix server created by amazon. As you can see we do not have a lot of space available and we want to make sure redis has enough space to work without getting stuck. I am little bit new in unix and after reading some data about the unix file system i still was not fully sure how can i give the redis drive (it is in the home directory) more space. I see the mnt that has a lot of space but read it is temporary for cd-rom and network drives. Can you help me figure out how to get more space to my redis ? If it is possible i prefer not to re-install the redis server. So, is it safe to format this with, say ext4 and mount it? Also, when I tried to mount /dev/sd5, it gave me this error: mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member' I assume it is NOT save to reformat this. If I'm wrong, then that would be great, because I could save some space. Please let me know either way. Thanks in advance!   • mysqld - master to slave replication using rsync innodb, sequence number issues

    I've read several of the related topics posted here, but I have not been able to avoid this innodb error. The steps I've taken to replicate data from a Slackware server - 5.5.27-log (S) to a FreeBSD slave - 5.5.21-log (F) were these: (S) flush tables with read lock; (S) in another terminal show master status; (S) stop mysqld via command line in third terminal; (F) while both servers are stopped, rsync mysql datadir from (S), excluding master.info, mysql-bin and relay-* files; (F) start mysqld (skip-slave) 121018 12:03:29 InnoDB: Error: page 7 log sequence number 456388912904 InnoDB: is in the future! Current system log sequence number 453905468629. InnoDB: Your database may be corrupt or you may have copied the InnoDB InnoDB: tablespace but not the InnoDB log files. See InnoDB: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/forcing-innodb-recovery.html InnoDB: for more information. This kind of error happens for a lot of tables. I know I can use dump, but the database is large, ca. 70GB and the systems are slow (old), so would like to get this replication to work with data transfer. What should I try to solve this issue?

  • MySQL InnoDB/socket issue on Mac OS X 10.6.4

    I have an ongoing issue on my Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.4. Intermittently, my MySQL install will not create a socket on startup. Rebooting sometimes, but not always, solves the problem. Deleting the ib* files in /usr/local/mysql/data and then restarting sometimes, but not always, solves the problem. My error logs tell me the following: Plugin InnoDB init function returned error Plugin InnoDB registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed Can't start server: Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use Do you already have another mysqld server running on port: 3306? Aborting It then appears to attempt to start again and generates this error 20 - 30 times: Unable to lock ./ibdata1, error 35 Check that you do not already have another mysqld process using the same InnoDB data or log files Though the socket file is not created, I can connect to my MySQL db directly over localhost. Although, this does not help me from a PHP standpoint. Any thoughts on what I can do to resolve the issue or debug further? I'm at a loss as to where to go from here.

  • Fixing bent pins on a CPU

    While replacing a mainboard in a desktop machine (see related question), I did something stupid. I inserted the CPU into the new mainboard, but didn't check for the right position. When it didn't immediately lock in, I pressed slightly before realizing what was wrong. The result was a number of bent pins. I tried every tutorial that popped up when Googling "CPU bent pins" - using credit cards, sewing needles, and a hunting knife to get the pins back into position - but to no avail: For every pin I get straightened out, two others are bent. I have no problem getting individual pins straightened out, but my many attempts have led to many pins being slightly askew - enough for the CPU not to fit into the socket (An AMD X3 one). Maybe I just lack the motoric finesse. What I would need is some sort of a grid to fix all pins at once. It's a €50 processor so the loss is not catastrophic. But I thought before I go buy a new one, I thought I'd check here whether anybody knows some magic trick, or a cheap generally-available tool to fix this.

  • Mac OS X: Applications not responding

    This happens to me several times a day. I'll quit an app, the window will close, but the app won't finish shutting down. It stays open in the dock, and right clicking and force quit show not responding. Force quit won't work. I can't shut the app down. Starting any other app when this happens causes that app to behave in exactly the same way: the icon opens in the dock, but the app is non-responsive and can't be forced to quit. Can't access terminal when this happens, because it locks up just like all the apps. While I haven't tried to open every app, I think any app I try to open when this is happening will lock up. If I relaunch Finder, it too locks up and then the only thing left is to hold down the power button for a hard reboot. Any app that is running while this is happening will continue to run normally unless I try to shut it down. Repairing disk permissions has no effect. I also did a time machine and a full restore on a brand new MbP - and sure enough, after restore, the new MbP suffers form the same problem. Creating a new user has no effect. Any thoughts? Please help MacBook Pro 15" AG 2.53ghz i5 cpu 8gb RAM 500gb HD (over 200gb free)

  • Can't login to Windows server 2008 (as any user, not even locally, not in safe mode but I have right credentials)

    Just from nowhere I can't login to my Windows server 2008 machine. All the services like FTP server or webserver (which I'm actually not using, just remote desktop and FTP) are running. Whatever credentials I try (even/especialy administrator), it always says Unknown Username or bad password. I have already tried hard turn off/on and safe mode without luck. Also I already tried type in login name as SERVER NAME\user or Workgroup\user (every case sensitive scenario), still says I have wrong login. Usually we are using remote desktop to access the machine but local access over KVM doesn't work either. Now I'm lock out of any control or any way to do something. There's just logon screen preceding by ctrl+alt+del to login alert. Without me able to login I can't actually try to fix anything. Can't find much more on Internet except the SERVER NAME\user thing. Reinstall would be the last resort but I can't let things this way for much longer anyway. This server is vital. If it would be any help, I think automatic Windows updates are turned off and there were no updates or newly installed software for last couple years and just few soft restarts, non of them recently. It happened during it's runtime while all other services were still up and running, so this couldn't be just some Windows nasty screw up during boot or something. What could have possibly changed? What are my options now?

    I have a 2010 project that is targeting .NET v3.5. It was working fine until I started to mess with configurations a bit and now I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. The project doesn't have ANY references added. It won't even let me add a reference to System.Core as it is added by the 'build system'. warning CS1685: The predefined type 'System.Func' is defined in multiple assemblies in the global alias; using definition from 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' IFilter.cs(82,49): error CS0433: The type 'System.Func' exists in both 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Core.dll' and 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' Looks like something is grabbing onto 4.0 but I'm not quite sure how to fix it.     I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extendable framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2006 ASP.NET front end. I'm simply trying to run the Axis2 wsdl2java tool according to the instructions in their manual. This basically consists of adding the keyStore and keyStorePassword JVM parameter. Now, I am trying to figure out how to display the data within the Sqlite Db from the Tcl frontend. After a little bit of research, I found that the treeview widget would work well for my needs. I now have the following code: set z1 [ttk::treeview .c1.t1 -columns {1 2} -show headings] $z1 heading #1 -text "First Name" $z1 heading #2 -text "Last Name" proc Srch {} {global z1 sqlite3 db test.db pack $z1 db close } When the "Srch" procedure is executed (button event), the treeview (z1) appears with the headings First Name and Last Name. Additionally, the Sqlite Db gets connected, then closes. I wanted to add code that would populate the treeview from the Sqlite Db between connecting to the Db and packing the treeview (z1). Does anyone know the correct syntax to populate a Tcl treeview with data from Sqlite? Thank you everyone in advance, DFM

  • Asp.Net 3.5 Routing to Asmx Webservice?

    I was looking for a way to route http://www.example.com/WebService.asmx to http://www.example.com/service/ using only the ASP.NET 3.5 Routing framework without needing to configure the IIS server. Until now I have done what most tutorials told me, added a reference to the routing assembly, configured stuff in the web.config, added this to the Global.asax: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RouteCollection routes = RouteTable.Routes; routes.Add( "WebService", new Route("service/{*Action}", new WebServiceRouteHandler()) ); } ...created this class: public class WebServiceRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { // What now? } } ...and the problem is right there, I don't know what to do. The tutorials and guides I've read use routing for pages, not webservices. Is this even possible? Ps: The route handler is working, I can visit /service/ and it throws the NotImplementedException I left in the GetHttpHandler method.

    How do you modify a ASP.NET MVC 2.0 project to work with the Spark View Engine?   • Rails Resque workers fail with PGError: server closed the connection unexpectedly

    I have site running rails application and resque workers running in production mode, on Ubuntu 9.10, Rails 2.3.4, ruby-ee 2010.01, PostgreSQL 8.4.2 Workers constantly raised errors: PGError: server closed the connection unexpectedly. My best guess is that master resque process establishes connection to db (e.g. authlogic does that when use User.acts_as_authentic), while loading rails app classes, and that connection becomes corrupted in fork()ed process (on exit?), so next forked children get kind of broken global ActiveRecord::Base.connection I could reproduce very similar behaviour with this sample code imitating fork/processing in resque worker. (AFAIK, users of libpq recommended to recreate connections in forked process anyway, otherwise it's not safe ) But, the odd thing is that when I use pgbouncer or pgpool-II instead of direct pgsql connection, such errors do not appear. So, the question is where and how should I dig to find out why it is broken for plain connection and is working with connection pools? Or reasonable workaround?

    I am developing a website(web forms , not MVC) in VS 2008(with SP1 ).I am trying to incorporate the ASP.NET Routing.I am following the MSDN tutorial to do it. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc668201.aspx I have added the below items to my glbal.asax.cs file as per the tutorial protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.Add(new Route ( "Category/{action}/{categoryName}" , new CategoryRouteHandler() )); } When trying to build it is telling like "The type or namespace name 'RouteCollection' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I have System.web imported to my global.asax file Any Idea how to get rid of it ?

  • CUDA linking error - Visual Express 2008 - nvcc fatal due to (null) configuration file

    Hi, I've been searching extensively for a possible solution to my error for the past 2 weeks. I have successfully installed the Cuda 64-bit compiler (tools) and SDK as well as the 64-bit version of Visual Studio Express 2008 and Windows 7 SDK with Framework 3.5. I'm using windows XP 64-bit. I have confirmed that VSE is able to compile in 64-bit as I have all of the 64-bit options available to me using the steps on the following website: (since Visual Express does not inherently include the 64-bit packages) http://jenshuebel.wordpress.com/2009/02/12/visual-c-2008-express-edition-and-64-bit-targets/ I have confirmed the 64-bit compile ability since the "x64" is available from the pull-down menu under "Tools-Options-VC++ Directories" and compiling in 64-bit does not result in the entire project being "skipped". I have included all the needed directories for 64-bit cuda tools, 64 SDK and Visual Express (\VC\bin\amd64).     What is the correct way to find the absolute path to the App_Data folder from a Controller in an ASP.NET MVC project? I'd like to be able to temporarily work with an .xml file and I don't want to hardcode the path. This does not work: [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { public ActionResult Index() { string path = VirtualPathUtility.ToAbsolute("~/App_Data/somedata.xml"); //.... do whatever return View(); } } I think outside of the web context VirtualPathUtility.ToAbsolute() doesn't work. string path comes back as "C:\App_Data\somedata.xml" Where should I determine the path of the .xml file in an MVC app? global.asax and stick it an application-level variable?

  • Session lost and application end, after file download

    I have this code in the end of link button click: Response.ContentType = "application/zip"; Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=download.zip"); Response.TransmitFile(Server.MapPath("download.zip")); Response.End(); to download a zip file from an aspx page. In the previous page i set a session variable, after going to this download page and download the file, then press back i find the session=null "this happen after downloading more than 1 time", and the application_end in global.ascx called. Do you know why this may happen??
