• Devise not allowing active resource to access the services

  In my application there are two folders one for a rails application and another for a ruby application. In the ruby folder I have created a ruby file in which I have written code to access some model which is present in the rails application using active resource. Sample code is shown below : active_resource_example.rb require 'rubygems' require 'active_resource' class Website < ActiveResource::Base self.site = "http://localhost:3000/admin/" self.user = "user" self.password = "password" end websites = Website.find(:all) puts websites.inspect In my rails application I have used ActiveAdmin gem which uses devise for authentication. • jQuery click event on IE7-8, does not execute on the div, only on its text

  I have a problem using the jQuery click event with IE7-8-9. I apply the event on a div. But on these two IE versions, I have to click on the text contained within the div to make the event work.   Hello, I'm having some problems trying to perform a query. I have two tables, one with elements information, and another one with records related with the elements of the first table. The idea is to get in the same row the element information plus several records information. Would be possible in anyway to do a subquery and reuse it? • How to effectively use WorkbookBeforeClose event correctly?

  On a daily basis, a person needs to check that specific workbooks have been correctly updated with Bloomberg and Reuters market data ie. all data has pulled through and that the 'numbers look correct'. In the past, people were not checking the 'numbers' which led to inaccurate uploads to other systems etc. The idea is that 'something' needs to be developed to prevent the use from closing/saving the workbook unless he/she has checked that the updates are correct/accurate. The numbers look correct action is purely an intuitive exercise, thus will not be coded in any way. The simple solution was to prompt users prior to closing the specific workbook to verify that the data has been checked. Using VSTO SE for Excel 2007, an Add-in was created which hooks into the WorkbookBeforeClose event which is initialised in the add-in ThisAddIn_Startup private void wb_BeforeClose(Xl.Workbook wb, ref bool cancel) { //.... snip ... if (list.Contains(wb.Name)) { DailogResult result = MessageBox.Show("some message", "sometitle", MessageBoxButtons.YesNo); if (result != DialogResult.Yes) { cancel = true; // i think this prevents the whole application from closing } } } I have found the following ThisApplication.WorkbookBeforeSave vs ThisWorkbook.Application.WorkbookBeforeSave which recommends that one should use the ThisApplication.WorkbookBeforeClose event which I think is what I am doing since will span all files opened. The issue I have with the approach is that assuming that I have several files open, some of which are in my list, the event prevents Excel from closing all files sequentially. It now requires each file to be closed individually. Am I using the event correctly and is this effective & efficient use of the event? Should I use the Application level event or document level event? Is there a way to prevent the above behaviour? Any other suggestions are welcomed VS 2005 with VSTO SE

  I am trying to do async IO using BeginRead() in JScript.NET, but I can't get the callback function to work correctly. Delegates are supposed to be created automatically, obviating the need for creating a new AsyncCallback explicitly, eg: BeginRead( ... new AsyncDelegate( readFileCallback), object ); And in fact if you try to create the delegate explicitly the compiler issues an error. I must be missing something here.

  I was testing a String multiplier class with a multiply() method that takes 2 numbers as inputs (as String) and returns the result number (as String) `public String multiply(String num1, String num2); I have done the implementation and created a test class with the following test cases involving the input String parameter as 1) valid numbers 2) characters 3) special symbol 4) empty string 5) Null value 6) 0 7) Negative number 8) float 9) Boundary values 10) Numbers that are valid but their product is out of range 11) numbers will + sign (+23) 1) I'd like to know if "each and every" assertEquals() should be in it's own test method? Or, can I group similar test cases like testInvalidArguments() to contains all asserts involving invalid characters since ALL of them throw the same NumberFormatException ? 2) If testing an input value like character ("a"), do I need to include test cases for ALL scenarios? "a" as the first argument "a" as the second argument "a" and "b" as the 2 arguments 3) As per my understanding, the benefit of these unit tests is to find out the cases where the input from a user might fail and result in an exception. And, then we can give the user with a meaningful message (asking them to provide valid input) instead of an exception. Is that the correct? And, is it the only benefit? 4) Are the 11 test cases mentioned above sufficient? Did I miss something? Did I overdo? When is enough? 5) Following from the above point, have I successfully tested the multiply() method?

  I'm trying to write a test for an UrlHelper extensionmethod that is used like this: Url.Action<TestController>(x => x.TestAction()); However, I can't seem set it up correctly so that I can create a new UrlHelper and then assert that the returned url was the expected one. Expected: "Test/TestAction" But was: <string.Empty> I have verified that the route is registered and working and I am using Hanselmans extension for creating a fake HttpContext. • SQL database problems with addressbook table design

  Hello! I am writing a addressbook module for my software right now. I have the database set up so far that it supports a very flexible address-book configuration. I can create n-entries for every type I want. Type means here data like 'email', 'address', 'telephone' etc. I have a table named 'contact_profiles'. This only has two columns: id Primary key date_created DATETIME And then there is a table called contact_attributes. This one is a little more complex: id PK #profile (Foreign key to contact_profiles.id) type VARCHAR describing the type of the entry (name, email, phone, fax, website, ...) I should probably change this to a SET later. value Text (containing the value for the attribute). I can now link to these profiles, for example from my user's table. But from here I run into problems. At the moment I would have to create a JOIN for each value that I want to retrieve. Is there a possibility to somehow create a View, that gives me a result with the type's as columns? So right now I would get something like #profile type value 1 email [email protected] 1 name Sebastian Hoitz 1 website domain.tld But it would be nice to get a result like this: #profile email name website 1 [email protected] Sebastian Hoitz domain.tld The reason I do not want to create the table layout like this initially is, that there might always be things to add and I want to be able to have multiple attributes of the same type.   Let's assume the following tables setup for a Zend Framework app. user (id) groups (id) groups_users (id, user_id, group_id, join_date) I took the Data Mapper approach to models which basically gives me: Model_User, Model_UsersMapper, Model_DbTable_Users Model_Group, Model_GroupsMapper, Model_DbTable_Groups Model_GroupUser, Model_GroupsUsersMapper, Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers (for holding the relationships which can be seen as aentities; notice the "join_date" property) I'm defining the _referenceMap in Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers: protected $_referenceMap = array ( 'User' => array ( 'columns' => array('user_id'), 'refTableClass' => 'Model_DbTable_Users', 'refColumns' => array('id') ), 'App' => array ( 'columns' => array('group_id'), 'refTableClass' => 'Model_DbTable_Groups', 'refColumns' => array('id') ) ); I'm having these design problems in mind: 1) The Model_Group only mirrors the fields in the groups table. How can I return a collection of groups a user is a member of and also the date the user joined that group for every group? If I just added the property to the domain object, then I'd have to let the group mapper know about it, wouldn't I? 2) Let's say I need to fetch the groups a user belongs to. Where should I put this logic? Model_UsersMapper or Model_GroupsUsersMapper? I also want to make use of the referencing map (dependent tables) mechanism and probably use findManyToManyRowset or findDependentRowset, something like: $result = $this->getDbTable()->find($userId); $row = $result->current(); $groups = $row->findManyToManyRowset( 'Model_DbTable_Groups', 'Model_DbTable_GroupsUsers' ); This would produce two queries when I could have just written it in a single query. I will place this in the Model_GroupsUsersMapper class. An enhancement would be to add a getGroups method to the Model_User domain object which lazily loads the groups when needed by calling the appropriate method in the data mapper, which begs for the second question. Should I allow the domain object know about the data mapper?

• Are SharePoint site templates really less performant than site definitions?

  So, it seems in the SharePoint blogosphere that everybody just copies and pastes the same bullet points from other blogs. One bullet point I've seen is that SharePoint site templates are less performant than site definitions because site definitions are stored on the file system. Is that true? It seems odd that site templates would be less performant. It's my understanding that all site content lives in a database, whether you use a site template or a site definition. A site template is applied once to the database, and from then on the site should not care if the content was created using a site template or not. So, does anybody have an architectural reason why a site template would be less performant than a site definition? Edit: Links to the blogs that say there is a performance difference: From MSDN: Because it is slow to store templates in and retrieve them from the database, site templates can result in slower performance. From DevX: However, user templates in SharePoint can lead to performance problems and may not be the best approach if you're trying to create a set of reusable templates for an entire organization. From IT Footprint: Because it is slow to store templates in and retrieve them from the database, site templates can result in slower performance. Templates in the database are compiled and executed every time a page is rendered. From Branding SharePoint:Custom site definitions hold the following advantages over custom templates: Data is stored directly on the Web servers, so performance is typically better. At a minimum, I think the above articles are incomplete, and I think several are misleading based on what I know of SharePoints architecture. I read another blog post that argued against the performance differences, but I can't find the link.

• Writing Russian in XML

  Hi, I am writing a Xml Tag Renamer class with Java which reads in a XML, renames the tags and write them back into another XML file using DocumentBuilderFactory and TransformerFactory (text nodes are preserved). It worked fine before with German and English texts, until today, when I tried to rename a XML file with russian text. Instead of the source texts I got ????? in the newly created XML file. I've tried setting Encoding Any idea how to correct this? Thanks! PS. Strings were correct before entering TransformerFactory, as I checked in the debugger. I've tried setting OutputKeys.ENCODING to UTF-8 and ISO-8859-5. None of them helped. • Manipulate score/rank on query results from NHibernate.Search

  I've been working with NHibernate, NHibernate.Search and Lucene.Net to improve the search engine used on the website I develop. Basically, I use it to search contents of corporations specification documents. This is not to be confused with Lucene's notion of documents: in my case, a specification document (which I'll hereafter call a "specdoc") can contain many pages, and the content of these pages are the ones that are actually indexed (thus, the pages themselves are the ones that fall into Lucene's concept of documents). So, the pages belong to a specdoc, that in turn belong to a corporation (so, a corporation can have many specdocs). I'm using NHibernate.Search "IndexEmbedded" and "ContainedIn" attributes to associate the pages with their specdoc and the specdocs to their corporations, so I can query for terms in specdoc pages and have Lucene/NH.Search return either the pages themselves, the specdocs, or the corporations that match the query on the pages. I can query this way and get ranked results, thus presenting results (that is, corporations, specdocs or pages) by relevance, which is great. But now I need something more. Specifically in the case where I query terms and have NH.Search return the corporations that match, I need to manually/artificially tune the score of some of the results, because there are corporations that I want to show up on the top of the result set - think of "sponsored results". I'm thinking of doing it on my application, maybe creating an entity/database table that contain an association to the corporation entity, and a score boost value. But I don't know how to feed this to Lucene and have it boost the results accordingly at search time. Initially I thought about deriving a Similarity class to do this, but it doesn't look like Similarity can be used to modify result sets at search time. As per this page, it looks like what I need is to mess around with weight or scoring. But the docs are a little superficial in that there are no examples on how to implement a custom scoring, let alone integrate it with NH.Search. So, does anyone know how to do this, or point me to some documentation or working example on how to do something similar? Thanks!

• Azure application working on emulator but not on azure cloud

• MSBuild - Writing Escape Characters to Files

  I've got a very similar scenario to the one described in this post. It describes how to load the contents of a file that contains properties & items, making sure they're resolved as part of the process. I'm doing the same thing except writing the contents away to another text file (generally .ini file). In short I'd start by importing a project / propertygroup which contains this text: ; ----------- [heading] setting1=$(FirstValue) setting2=$(SecondValue) setting3=list;of;values;delimited;by;semicolons setting4=bla bla bla ; ----------- & hopefully write it away to a new .ini file containing the following: ; ----------- [heading] setting1=value resolved by msbuild setting2=another value resolved by msbuild setting3=list;of;values;delimited;by;semicolons setting4=bla bla bla ; ----------- Only problem is that some files will contain semicolons. I can live without comments, but they're also used as part of values e.g. in lists. This is the result of using the WriteLinesToFile task. The semicolons are treated as escape characters & result in new lines, so the value of 'setting3' in the above example would be split over 6 lines. Is there a way around this without implementing my own task? Thanks in advance for the help!

  I am looking to migrate my selenium RC tests to using PHPUnit 3.4.12 from PHPUnit 3.3.2 The selenium test will fail with an exception of the following when I use assertTextPresent() PHPUnit_Framework_Exception: Response from Selenium RC server for getLocation(). ERROR Server Exception: sessionId should not be null; has this session been started yet?. I have tried the same test with PHPUnit 3.3.2 which did not produce this problem - the test would happily end without the getLocation(). Any ideas? thanks

  While I playing with the C# 4.0 dynamic, I found strange things happening with the code like this: using System.Dynamic; sealed class Foo : DynamicObject { public override bool TryInvoke( InvokeBinder binder, object[] args, out object result) { result = new object(); return true; } static void Main() { dynamic foo = new Foo(); var t1 = foo(0); var t2 = foo(0); var t3 = foo(0); var t4 = foo(0); var t5 = foo(0); } } Ok, it works but... take a look at IntelliTrace window: So every invokation (and other operations too on dynamic object) causes throwing and catching strange exceptions twice! I understand, that sometimes exceptions mechanism may be used for optimizations, for example first call to dynamic may be performed to some stub delegate, that simply throws exception - this may be like a signal to dynamic binder to resolve an correct member and re-point delegate. Next call to the same delegate will be performed without any checks. But... behavior of the code above looks very strange. Maybe throwing and catching exceptions twice per any operation on DynamicObject - is a bug?
