• Active Directory login - DirectoryEntry inconsistent exception

  I need to validate the LDAP user by checking if there exists such a user name in the specified domain. For this I am using this code - DirectoryEntry entry = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://" + strDomainController); DirectorySearcher searcher = new DirectorySearcher(entry); searcher.Filter = "SAMAccountName=" + strUserName; SearchResult result = searcher.FindOne(); return (result != null) ? true : false; This is a method in a class library which I intened to reference and use whereever I need this functionality in my project. To test this, I created a simple test application. The test occurs like this - Console.WriteLine(MyClassLib.MyValidateUserMethod("UserName", "Domain",ref strError).ToString()); The problem I am facing is that this works fine when I test it with my testapp but in my project, when I try to use the same method with the same credentials - The DirectoryEntry object throws an "System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException" exception and the search.Filter fails and throws ex = {"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.\r\n"} exception. I have tried impersonation but that doesn't help. Somehow the same method works fine in mytestapp and doesn't work in my project. Both these applications are in my local dev machine. What am I missing? Any ideas?

• Problem with Unit testing of ASP.NET project (NullReferenceException when running the test)

  Hi, I'm trying to create a bunch of MS visual studio unit tests for my n-tiered web app but for some reason I can't run those tests and I get the following error - "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" What I'm trying to do is testing of my data access layer where I use LINQ data context class to execute a certain function and return a result,however during the debugging process I found out that all the tests fail as soon as they get to the LINQ data context class and it has something to do with the connection string but I cant figure out what is the problem. UPDATE: Finally I've fixed this!!!!:) I dont know why but for some reasons in the app.config file the connection to my database was as follows: AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF So what I did is I just changed the path and instead of |DataDirectory| I put the actual path where my MDF file sits,i.e C:\Users\1\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\EICWebSystem\EICWebSystem\App_Data\EICDatabase.mdf After I had done that it worked out!But still it's a bit not clear what was the problem...probably incorrect path to the database?My web.config of ASP.NET project contains the |DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF path though..

• What is the right way to make a new XMLHttpRequest from an RJS response in Ruby on Rails?

  I'm trying to come closer to a solution for the problem of my previous question. The scheme I would like to try is following: User requests an action from RoR controller. Action makes some database queries, makes some calculations, sets some session variable(s) and returns some RJS code as the response. This code could either update a progress bar and make another ajax request. display the final result (e.g. a chart grahic) if all the processing is finished The browser evaluates the javascript representation of the RJS. It may make another (recursive? Is recursion allowed at all?) request, or just display the result for the user. So, my question this time is: how can I embed a XMLHttpRequest call into rjs code properly? Some things I'd like to know are: Should I create a new thread to avoid stack overflow. What rails helpers (if any) should I use? Have anybody ever done something similar before on Rails or with other frameworks? Is my idea sane?

• How to access a method on a generic datacontext which is only created at runtime

  I'm creating my generic DataContext using only the connectionString in the ctor. I have no issues in retrieving the table using DataContext.GetTable(). However, I need to also be able to retrieve entities of inline table functions. The dbml designer generates public IQueryable<testFunctionResult> testFunction() { return this.CreateMethodCallQuery<testFunctionResult>(this, ((MethodInfo)(MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod()))); } The question is how do I get the MethodInfo.GetCurrentMethod() when the DataContext has no method called "testFunction", i.e.typeof(DataContext).GetMethod("testFunction") returns null?   I implemented an extension "MyExtensionSortMethod" to sort collections (IEnumerate). This allows me to replace code such as 'entities.OrderBy( ... ).ThenByDescending( ...)' by 'entities.MyExtensionSortMethod()' (no parameter as well). • Getting Safari document title/location with Scripting Bridge does not work in full-screen mode

  I'm trying to get the URL and document title from the topmost Safari document/tab. I have an AppleScript and an objective-c version using Apple's Scripting Bridge framework. Both versions work fine for most web pages, however when I open a Youtube video in full-screen mode, the Scripting Bridge based version fails. The Apple Script works fine for "normal" and full-screen Safari windows. Can anyone see what is wrong with the Scripting Bridge code below to cause it to fail for full-screen Safari windows? The problem is that I have to align the x coordinate manually, which is not a clean solution. The best way would it imho be to calculate the maximum x value of two nodes and use this, (as already suggested by Geoff) But it would already be very handy to be able to explicitly define the absolute xvalues of both nodes while keeping their current y values. This would avoid the fiddly procedure of adapting the third post decimal position to ensure that the brace looks vertical.

No short description is displayed in the feed reader, all I see is the title of the article. Also, all of the articles say they were published at the same time.   I'm looking at trying to optimise a particular function in a php app and foolishly assumed that a boolean lookup in a 'if' statement would be quicker than a string compare. But to check it I put together a short test (see below). To my surprise, the string lookup was quicker. Is there anything wrong with my test (I'm wired on too much coffee so I'm suspicious of my own code)? If not, I would be interested in any comments people have around string versus boolean lookups in php. Is there something about boolean algebra that I don't understand or something that works differently in C++ than I know of? Any ideas why this causes an exception? Thanks, Hristo

  hi folks, i need to get splited intervals and the number of overlapping intervals, eg basedata: interval A: startTime 08:00, endTime 12:00 interval B: startTime 09:00, endTime 12:00 interval C: startTime 12:00, endTime 16:00 interval D: startTime 13:00, endTime 14:00 now i have a separate interval from 10:00 to 15:00 and have to determine what intervals are intersected at first. result should be something like: 1: 10:00 - 12:00 ( intersecting with interval A ) 2: 10:00 - 12:00 ( intersecting with interval B ) 3: 12:00 - 15:00 ( intersecting with interval C ) 4: 13:00 - 14:00 ( intersecting with interval D ) this part works fine, the following causes the trouble: i need some kind of weighting for parallel intervals. this also means, that it can occur that an interval-intersection must be splitted n times, if it's ( partly ) intersected by another one. in the upper example the expecting result would be: 1: 10:00 - 12:00 -> weightage: 50% 2: 10:00 - 12:00 -> weightage: 50% 3.1: 12:00 - 13:00 -> weightage: 1oo% 3.2: 13:00 - 14:00 -> weightage: 50% 3.3: 14:00 - 15:00 -> weightage: 50% 4: 13:00 - 14:00 -< weightage: 100% the splitting of interval 3 is caused by the intersecting with interval 4 between 13:00 and 14:00. sql-server is ms-sql 2008. thanks for help in advance!

• Reading a CSV with file_get_contents in PHP

  I am reading a 'kind' of csv file and exploding it and storing it in array. The file I am reading has this structure Id,Log,Res,File mydb('Test1','log1','Pass','lo1.txt'). mydb('Test2','log2','Pass','lo2.txt'). mydb('Test3','log3','Pass','lo3.txt'). Now what I am trying to do is : reading the last record in my database, get the Name, lets say in this case 'Test1' and then I am searching through my file and where I can find the position of 'Test1' and get the next lines in the file, extract the ID,s and add it to database. I am getting the position of desired string in the file, but I am not sure how to get the next lines too. • String.Format Phone Numbers with Extension

  I am trying to create a an function that formats US phone numbers -- hopefully without looping through each digit. When 10 digits are passed in all is fine. How ever when more than 10 digits are passed in I want the String.Format method to append the extension digits on the right.
