  Scenario: I have a fairly generic table (Data), that has an identity column. The data in this table is grouped (lets say by city). The users need an identifier in order for printing on paper forms, etc. The users can only access their cites data, so if they use the identity column for this purpose they will see odd numbers (e.g. a 'New York' user might see 1,37,2028... as the listed keys. Idealy they would see 1,2,3... (or something similar) The problem of course is concurrency, this being a web application you can't just have something like: UserId = Select Count(*)+1 from Data Where City='New York' Has anyone come up with any cunning ways around this problem?

  I read this on msdn: Views let different users to see data in different ways, even when they are using the same data at the same time. This is especially useful when users who have many different interests and skill levels share the same database. For example, a view can be created that retrieves only the data for the customers with whom an account manager deals. The view can determine which data to retrieve based on the login ID of the account manager who uses the view. My question: For the above example , i would have to have a column named Userid/LoginId on my table on which the view is created so that i can apply a check option in the view for this column. and then if a user with a name not in that column tries to enter data , then he/she is blocked.

Therefore, any help would be appreciated :-)

  Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

• How do I use SPMemember.ID property to get User or Group

  I have to write a utility to enumerate and manage the owners of groups within a SharePoint site. I know I can use the Groups property of the SPWeb object to retrieve a collection of groups. And I know I can use the Owner property of the group to get back the owner. My problem is that I do not know what to do next. The SPGroup.Owner property returns a SPMember object. The member object has one property called ID that returns the unique ID (an integer) of the member. What I cannot seem to find information on is how to use that integer value to determine if the member is a User or a Group and how to get back additional details (say the name). Any ideas? Thanks.

• 403 Forbidden for web root on Apache on Mac OS X v10.7, but can access user directories

  When I access http://localhost/ I get 403 Forbidden, but if I access http://localhost/~username it serves up pages. Things I've tried: Checking error logs Swapping out with original httpd conf files Changing DocumentRoot to my user directory (after all that should work if I can access ~username) I've seen 30 plus Q&A sites that all point to people having trouble with user directories being forbidden. I have the opposite problem, and so I'm tearing my hair out here.

• File not found error on User control on production

  I made 2 usercontrols for sharepoint 2007 site. Everything is working fine on test server. I deployed it on production but only 1 got deployed and placed properly. The second user control is added n deployed to web part galleries but gives File not found error when i add it on web part page. I deployed it using WSP. yet it gives this error. I checked logs it did not show anything. I have no idea what to do. please help. • Thunderbird: where have the folder view switching arrows gone?

  The folder pane in Thunderbird used to have a left and right arrow that allowed switching between the folders displayed. However, since a week or so, the arrows are gone (update? miss-clicked something?) As I use them several times a day: how can I get the arrows back? I have Thunderbird 8.0. Note: I know, switching is also accessible via the menu bar View Folders, but this is too much clicks for me.

  I am using VisualWebDeveloperExpress2008 with Access as the membership provider. I have some cases where I want users to edit their own data. This would involve a query where the UserId should equal the UserID of the user who is using the site. I am expecting to use WHERE UserId = ?, but I have not found out where to direct "?". The IDE gives several choices, but I am uncertain which to choose.   I have a problem, which should be simple to solve, but i can't find the method to call to solve this problem: My problem is, that every Task Event (org.activiti.engine.task.Event) returnes null by calling Event.getUserId(); If I take a look into the database I see that the database table ACT_HI_COMMENT has null as value for the column USER_ID_ for every row. I generate these TaskEvents programmatically by calling (for example) processEngine.getTaskService().addComment(task.getId(), null, commentMessage); processEngine.getTaskService().addUserIdentityLink(task.getId(), user.getId(), IDENTITY_LINK_OBSERVER); I guess there is a simple method that I must call to solve this problem, something like processEngine.setCurrentUser(authenticatedUser.getId()); Any suggestions?

• Dynamic access to tables from another database inside an user function

  I have an user defined table function in SQL Server that aggregate data from several tables including a couple of tables of another database. That is done hardcoding the name of the database in the queries, but we want to make the database name configurable (because our databases usually share the server with the databases of other applications). I tried to construct a dynamic query string inside the function using the database name that is stored in a configuration table, but: When I tried exec(@sqlStatement) SQL Server said that execute string is not allowed inside a function. Then I tried exec sp_executesql @sqlStatement and the function was created, but when you execute it SQL Server says that inside a function you can only run extended functions and procedures. So the question is: is possible create a function or stored procedure that access a table in another database without having to recreate the function when the database name is different? TIA.

  So what I want to do is, in my main layout, have a menu for logged in users, and a different for anon users. THe layout will be used on every page, so I'm not sure how to do this, as I've seen, the Auth Component can only be used in the controller, this would be nice if I had to do this in only one view, but for every view, how can I do this?   When I'm editing some files ( html, css, js ) on UESTUDIO by FTP I'm able to browser folders, create new files on existing folders, but when I create a new folder and try to create a new file it won't allow me to select the "create new file" choice on the menu. Also, if I uncheck the "Show current directory only" option, then the menu to create folders and files on the current one ( that worked before ) disapears and I'm unable to use it. • iPhone - At user event create objects in the view

  Hello, I am new to iPhone programming, so I think part of the problem is that I don't know what I really want to google to find my answer. I am looking for a method that allows a user to draw a line on the screen. There is no guarantee that it will be straight, it can be curved or whatever. I was thinking that I could create some small square image, and then as they draw, place them into a NSset. But I am not really sure how to communicate each new object up to the view. Up to this point, I've just been messing around with objects I put on the view and then assign movement to those, this is my first jump into on-the-fly object creation. It might be that I just need to jump into a class/object type or even a tutorial, any guidance would be great. Thanks!
