  What's the best way to implement real time operant conditioning (supervised reward/punishment-based learning) for an agent? Should I use a neural network (and what type)? Or something else? I want the agent to be able to be trained to follow commands like a dog. The commands would be in the form of gestures on a touchscreen. I want the agent to be able to be trained to follow a path (in continuous 2D space), make behavioral changes on command (modeled by FSM state transitions), and perform sequences of actions. The agent would be in a simulated physical environment.

• All site interaction through a single page

  Hi there I have an idea for a site where there would be no refreshing and all interactions take place via AJAX. The page would load with central space, where all interaction would take place. If a user clicked on a link, the page would request it via AJAX and replace the rectangle's content with the link content. The idea is effectively an AJAX implemented iframe. Are there any disadvantages with this approach? Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on the idea? • Display Computer Info on an ASP.NET Page

  I want to build a page for end users to visit (in our MPLS Network) and it show the following information in regards to them: Computer Name OS Disk Space Memory IP Address Active Directory User Name Password Expiration Time (As defined by Global Policy) Maybe a few other things such as Trend Micro Office current version vs. their version, # of MS Updates needed (we utilize WSUS), and a few other things in the future. My question is how would I pull this information from the user when they visit the page? What is the proper function for this? Anyone have examples they wish to share for me to learn by if possible?

• How can I work with paragraphs in Wordpress?

  Wordpress has a filter that automatically add paragraphs to posts. I can remove this by adding the followin code: // Remove the <p> tags which WP automatically inserts in psots. remove_filter ('the_content', 'wpautop'); The problem is that i removes <br /> tags as well. So I'm not removing this filter at the moment. My problem is that inside a DIV box, I get extra space above and below the text (at the start / end of text). I could manipulate the <p> tag in css, but again, that will affect all <p> tags throughout the post content. Any suggestions to what I should do?

• Aquamacs and IDLWAVE

  I've just installed the new Aquamacs 2.0 in my Mac Os X 10.6.3 and I'm an happy user of IDLWAVE on Aquamacs for programming in IDL. Unfortunately I run into a problem which I can't understand. I used in my configuration file to put the following (setq idlwave-surround-by-blank t) for the beautiful space around operator. This used to work till Aquamacs 2.0 preview b3 (third beta release) from that on, it stops to work and every time I type an operator (the same for '=' '<' '' etc) I got the following message Debugger entered--Lisp error: (void-variable idlwave-expand-equal) (lambda nil (interactive) (self-insert-command 1) idlwave-expand- equal -1 -1)() call-interactively((lambda nil (interactive) (self-insert-command 1) idlwave-expand-equal -1 -1) nil nil) Any help is welcommed

If I just type a "<" then the code assist popup will come up with all the options I can choose from. I would like to know if the code assist can appear in more places though. If I type "<div" and hit space can I get another code assist popup? If so, how?

• Position elements without overlap

  I have a number of rectangular elements that I want to position in a 2D space. I calculate an ideal position for each element. Now my problem is that many elements overlap as very often the ideal positions are concentrated in one region. I want to avoid overlap as much as possible (doesn't have to be perfect, though). How can I do this? I've heard physics simulations are suitable for this - is that correct? And can anyone provide an example/tutorial? By the way: I'm using XNA, if you know any .NET library that does exactly this job - tell me!

• LBA48 in Linux SCSI ATA Passthrough

  I am writing a custom disk monitoring/diagnostics app which, among other things, needs to do stuff to SATA disks behind a SAS PCI card under Linux. So far I am following this guide as well as the example code in sg_utils to pass ATA taskfiles through the SCSI layer. Seems to be working okay. However, in both cases, the CDB data structure (pointed to by the cmdp member of the sg_io argument to the ioctl) has only one unsigned char worth of space for the number of sectors. If you look at the ata_taskfile structure in linux\ata.h you'll see that it has an "nsect" and a "hob_nsect" field - high order bits for the sector count, to support LBA48. It turns out that in my application I need LBA48 support. So, anyone know how to set up an sg_io_hdr structure with an LBA48 sector count?

• How to get cheap version control?

  Hello, I'm a programmer, contractor, self experimenter and so on. I'd need to have cheap version control. I've been working with Subversion and recently with Mercurial. I've seen around many cheap hosting but, even if they are great (like BitBucket), many of them don't allow many private projects (1 or 2). Much of the code I need to keep on VC is not open, maybe because it is stuff I'm working on for clients, or maybe because it's code I usually need for my development, but it is not intended and usable as a open source project. Now, I've a cheap web hosting, with unlimited space and free mysql. I CAN'T install Mercurial or SVN on those machinese, but I was asking myself if is it there a way to use a common CVS with it, with "common" I mean something that has its good IDE plugins (Eclipse or Netbeans) that may avoid me to write commands by hand. • AdMob ad is showing in iOS simulator, but not on iDevice

  As the heading states, I can get my AdMob Ad to show in the iOS 5.1 and 6.0 simulator just fine, however, when running my application on my iOS 5.1.1 or 6.0 devices, there is just a blank space where the ad should be served. • How secure are GUIDs in terms of predictability?

  We're using .NET's Guid.NewGuid() to generate activation codes and API keys currently. I wonder if that poses a security problem since their algorithm is open. .NET Guid uses Win32 CoCreateGuid and I don't know it's internals (possibly MAC address + timestamp?). Can someone derive a second GUID out of the first one, or can he hit it with some smart guesses or is the randomness good enough so search space becomes too big? Generating random keys have the problem of collision, they need a double check before adding to a database. That's why we stuck with GUIDs but I'm unsure about their security for these purposes.   As a way to get used to python, I am trying to translate some of my code to python from Autohotkey_L. I am immediately running into tons of choices for collection objects. Can you help me figure out a built in type or a 3rd party contributed type that has as much as possible, the functionality of the AutoHotkey_L object type and its methods. AutoHotkey_L Objects have features of a python dict, list, and a class instance.   The batch file is something like this, I put the python in some directory that has SPACE character in its path.   What is the lifetime of a variable in javascript, declared with "var". I am sure, it is definitely not according to expectation. <script> function(){ var a; var fun=function(){ // a is accessed and modified } }(); </script> Here how and when does javascript garbage collect the variable a? Since 'a' is a part of the closure of the inner function, it ideally should never get garbage collected, since the inner function 'fun', may be passed as a reference to an external context.So 'fun' should still be able to access 'a', from the external context. If my understanding is correct, how does garbage collection happen then, and how does it ensure to have enough memory space, since keeping all variables in memory until the execution of the program might not be tenable ?

• Shift browser contents to the left while viewing in wide screen

  I use a widescreen laptop. Many websites have their content centre aligned. On wider screens this means lot of empty space on left and right. As such this is not a botheration. Many a times, I read some instructions on the web page and type them out on the command prompt. I prefer to overlay the command prompt window on top of the browser and if the browser contents are left aligned (or right aligned), then I need not Alt-tab across these windows. I use Firefox on Ubuntu. I use the command line (konsole) heavily. I know compiz (and similar) tools provides transparent windows so that the content beneath is visible. But I don't want to install compiz or its equivalent because my graphics driver is not all that good. Any addon or simple trick that would shift the page content to the left (or right) would be very helpful (read productive).

  I have n sorted lists. These lists are quite long (300000+ tuples). Selecting the top 10 of the individual lists is of course trivial - they are right at the head of the lists. Where it gets more interesting is when I want the top 10 of all the sorted lists. The question is whether there is an algorithm to calculate the combined top 10 having the correct order while cutting off the long tail of the lists. The goal is to reduce the required space. And if there is: How does one find the limit where is is safe to cut? Note: The actual counts are not important. Only the order is.

• Question about mysql indexes on low to medium cardinality columns

  I have a general question about the way that database indexing works, particularly in mysql. Let's say I have a table with a million rows with a column "ClientID" that is distributed relatively equally among 30 values. Thus, this column is very low cardinality (30) relative to the primary key (1 million). Now, I understand that you shouldn't create indexes on low cardinality fields. However, in this case, queries are only ever done with one of the 30 clientIDs. Thus, wouldn't creating an index on ClientID be helpful, as the search space is automatically reduced to 1/30th what it normally would be? Or is my understanding of how the index works flawed? • Google Calendar API DoS prevention

  Hi, It appears that the Google calendar API effectively locks you out if you create and delete a few (less than 10) calendars within a short space of time. This has made it basically impossible for me to test my app, because it creates/deletes a calendar for each user that is added/removed from the app. Currently, I'm "working around" this issue by creating a new Google account each time I get locked out of the Calendar API. Clearly, this solution is less than satisfactory. Is there any way I can avoid this over-zealous DoS prevention? Thanks, Don

• Float multiple fixed-width / varible-height boxes into 2 columns

  I'll try to explain this as best I can. I have multiple divs that are fixed-width but variable height. I want to float these boxes into two columns inside a fixed-width container. What happens when a give them all a float: left value, I get something like this: ######### ######### # box 1 # # box 2 # ######### # ..... # ......... # ..... # ......... ######### ######### ######### # box 3 # # box 4 # # ..... # # ..... # ######### ######### ######### ######### # box 5 # # box 6 # # ..... # ######### # ..... # ######### (The periods are white space) What I really would really like is the top of box 3 to touch the bottom of box 1. Any easy way to acheive this?

I'm wondering if its possible to remove the "Tokyo, New York, Berlin, London" on the right side of the image? I would like to add a discription my self, and remove the exsisting one.   Hi all, For some project I have to make a dictionary in which the keys are urls,among which I have this url: http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll prd=windows&sbp=mediaplayer&ar=Media&sba=Guide&pver=6.2 the url is too long to fit in here I guess in one single line. there is a space between .dll and prd. I can build a dictionary without any errors this url is also a key. but for some reason when I want to extract the values associated to this key(url). I cannot, I get and error "error key:...." Does someone know what is wrong with this url? Are dictionary keys sensitive to some stuff? thanks

  I am looking to create n-grams from text column in PostgreSQL. I currently split(on white-space) data(sentences) in a text column to an array. select regexp_split_to_array(sentenceData,E'\s+') from tableName Once I have this array, how do I go about: Creating a loop to find n-grams, and write each to a row in another table Using unnest I can obtain all the elements of all the arrays on separate rows, and maybe I can then think of a way to get n-grams from a single column, but I'd loose the sentence boundaries which I wise to preserve.
