• XML serialization query

  I have the following XML which needs deserializing/serializing: <instance> <dog> <items> <item> <label>Spaniel</label> </item> </items> </dog> <cat> <items> <item> <label>Tabby</label> </item> </items> </cat> </instance> I cannot change the XML structure. I need to map this to the following class: [Serializable, XmlRoot("instance")] public class AnimalInstance { public string Dog { get; set; } public string Cat { get; set; } } I'm not really sure where to start on this one without manually parsing the XML. I'd like to keep the code as brief as possible. Any ideas? (and no, my project doesn't actually involve cats and dogs).

• Source-to-source compiler framework wanted

  Dear all, I used to use OpenC++ (http://opencxx.sourceforge.net/opencxx/html/overview.html) to perform code generation like: Source: class MyKeyword A { public: void myMethod(inarg double x, inarg const std::vector<int>& y, outarg double& z); }; Generated: class A { public: void myMethod(const string& x, double& y); // generated method below: void _myMehtod(const string& serializedInput, string& serializedOutput) { double x; std::vector<int> y; // deserialized x and y from serializedInput double z; myMethod(x, y, z); } }; This kind of code generation directly matches the use case in the tutorial of OpenC++ (http://www.csg.is.titech.ac.jp/~chiba/opencxx/tutorial.pdf) by writing a meta-level program for handling "MyKeyword", "inarg" and "outarg" and performing the code generation. However, OpenC++ is sort of out-of-date and inactive now, and my code generator can only work on g++ 3.2 and it triggers error on parsing header files of g++ of higher version. I have looked at VivaCore, but it does not provide the infra-structure for compiling meta-level program. I'm also looking at LLVM, but I cannot find documentation that tutor me on working out my source-to-source compilation usage. I'm also aware of the ROSE compiler framework, but I'm not sure whether it suits my usage, and whether its proprietary C++ front-end binary can be used in a commercial product, and whether a Windows version is available. Any comments and pointers to specific tutorial/paper/documentation are much appreciated.

  Hi, I've got problems starting my WAR application on a local JBoss. And at least I get a message that the deployment of the EAR has been successful. I also looked into the JAR with my file archiver and the ContextBasic.xml is indeed there at the right place. Is there a way for me to get sure that the JAR, not the EAR as a whole, is really deployed to the JBoss? I'm already starting to lose my head about this issue. Thank you. Bernhard

• WPF custom BalloonTips problem with multithreading

  Hi, I have read other related question but i cant really get them to relate to this so I thought it were best to ask, Im pretty new to WPF and so on so please bear with me. I am using this http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/wpf_notifyicon.aspx api to work with custom WPF Windows (in particular FancyBalloon). However, i'm coming across the following problem, I seem unable to start off BalloonTips in a separate thread ( i need this because i'm parsing emails and hence if there are 3 emails for instance, it displays the first email (that works fine), but when it comes to the second email it crashes with a TargetInvocationException , {"Specified element is already the logical child of another element. Disconnect it first."}. Thing is, im supposedly working with the same instance and i have attempted calling it to close it before, disposing it etc but to no avail. (then again if i dispose it, i cant create another instance as apparently WPF UI components must be called from a static thread so throughout the looping of emails + displaying balloon, i am trying to use the same BalloonTip. Any suggestions please? I am really at a loss here and i've been on it for quite a while now :/ I was wondering if there was anyone

• Updating Lists of Lists in Tapestry4 using textfields and a single submit button

  In Tapestry 4 I am trying it iterate over a list of lists (technically a list of objects who have a list of strings as a data field). I am currently doing this by using 'nested' for components. (This is pseudo code) <span jwcid="Form"> <span jwcid="@For" source="ognl:Javaclass.TopLevelList" value="ognl:SecondLevelList" index="ognl:index"> <span jwcid="@For" source="ognl:SecondLevelList.List" value="ognl:ListItem" index="ListItemIndex"> <span jwcid="@TextField" value="ognl:ListItem"/> <span jwcid="@Submit" listener="ognl:listeners.onSubmit"/> </span></span></span> The onSubmit listener then accesses the index and ListItem index page properties, as well as the ListItem page property in order to correctly update the list in Javaclass.TopLevelList. This works fine, but it looks terrible, and is cumbersome to the end user. I would prefer to somehow simulate this functionality using only one submit button at the bottom of the page. I have looked into somehow using the overlying form component to obtain a list of the 'form control components' within it, and then (with great care) parsing through tapestry's naming conventions to recover the functionality of the indexes. If anyone knows how to do this, or could explain the form component (how/when it submits, etc.) it would be greatly appreciated.

• docs/examples on libxml2 type system?

  I'm reading through the libxml2 API and examples on xmlsoft.com and having some real difficulty wrapping my head around the type system. For example, the _xmlAttribute struct has an xmlChar* field called name. This obviously refers to the name of the attribute (e.g., "bar" for the struct tied to the element <foo bar='baz' />). The _xmlAttribute struct also has a field called value, which I would expect to be "baz", except the type is xmlNodePtr. Um, what? I guess I could write up some test code and examine the memory in gdb, but there has to be an easier way. Has anyone written up examples of the data structures generated by a libxml2 parser? I'm looking for an English prose text, not generated documentation, that will walk me through the various types and the values they take when parsing some example bit of XML. Bonus points if it presents only the subset of libxml2 needed to read and write a config file---no namespaces or XPath or even modifying an existing document, just parse some XML, access the data, and then write it out again.

• Converting QXmlItem to QtDomElement or similar?

I'm parsing a fairly complicated XML file of the following structure: <root> ... ... <item> <subitem id="1"/> <text> text1 </text> </item> <item> <subitem id="2"/> <text> text2 </text> </item> ... <item> ... </item> ...</root> It's pretty crude but you get my drift I hope. I'm primarily interested in "item" nodes. So I wrote the following code (directly out of the Qt's online manual): QXmlQuery query; query.setQuery("//item/"); QXmlResultItems result; query.evaluateTo(&result); QXmlItem item(result.next()); while (!item.isNull()) { if (item.isNode()) { // WHAT DO I DO NOW? } item = result.next(); } Now, QXmlItem appears to represent two concepts, a literal value (like a string) or a Node, (which is what item.isNode() is doing). Unfortunately, I can't grasp how to convert the QXmlItem to something that will query-able again. In particular from the example above I'd like to grab the "id" attribute, and the text element. Can I do this using the XQuery approach, or am I way off base here? Any advice? Thanks!

• Try/Catch with jquery ajax request

  I am trying to build a Google Chrome extension that makes an ajax request. Something similar to the GMail Checker extension. The problem is that when I do the request using jquery, and I put in the wrong username/password, it fails silently, with the error callback function ignored. If I move the ajax call out of the background.html script (where I can't see the requests in the developer window), to the options.html script, I get a dialog box to re-authenticate. If I hit cancel, THEN the jquery error callback fires. But in the original model extension (again, the Gmail checker), they use plain (non-jquery) ajax calls with a try/catch, and if I put in the wrong credentials, I get an alert saying as much.   Hello, im fairly new to objective-c, most of it is clear however when it comes to memory managment I fall a little short. Currently what my application does is during a NSURLConnection when the method -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection is called upon I enter a method to parse some data, put it into an array, and return that array. • Android ndk-build command does nothing

  I have a similar question to that posted here: Android NDK: why ndk-build doesn't generate .so file and a new libs folder in Eclipse? ...though I am running Windows 7, not Mac os. Essentially the ndk-build command is run, gives no error but doesn't create an .so file (also, since I'm on windows this should create a .dll and not an .so?). I tried running the command from the root, jni, src folders etc. but got the same result; cmd just returns to the prompter after a few seconds. I ran it again from the jni folder with NDK_LOG=1 parameter to see what was happening. Here is a portion of the transcript of the log results after running ndk-build in the jni folder (after it successfully identified the platform, etc.)... It contains dates and rates The XML looks something like <rate> <date>Today</date> <price>66</price> </rate> <rate> <date>Tomorrow</date> <price>99</price> </rate> I simply want to figure out how to calculate the total price of both days Today and Tomorrow. • Mocking WebResponse's from a WebRequest

  I have finally started messing around with creating some apps that work with RESTful web interfaces, however, I am concerned that I am hammering their servers every time I hit F5 to run a series of tests.. Basically, I need to get a series of web responses so I can test I am parsing the varying responses correctly, rather than hit their servers every time, I thought I could do this once, save the XML and then work locally. However, I don't see how I can "mock" a WebResponse, since (AFAIK) they can only be instantiated by WebRequest.GetResponse How do you guys go about mocking this sort of thing? Do you? I just really don't like the fact I am hammering their servers :S I dont want to change the code too much, but I expect there is a elegant way of doing this.. Update Following Accept Will's answer was the slap in the face I needed, I knew I was missing a fundamental point! Create an Interface that will return a proxy object which represents the XML. Implement the interface twice, on that uses WebRequest, the other that returns static "responses". The interface implmentation then either instantiates the return type based on the response, or the static XML. You can then pass the required class when testing or at production to the service layer. Once I have the code knocked up, I'll paste some samples. Thanks Will :)

• Good grammar for date data type for recursive descent parser LL(1)

  I'm building a custom expression parser and evaluator for production enviroment to provide a limited DSL to the users. The parser itself as the DSL, need to be simple. The parser is going to be built in an exotic language that doesn't support dynamic expression parsing nor has any parser generator tools available. My decision is to go for recursive descent approach with LL(1) grammar, so that even programmers with no previous experience in evaluating expression could quickly learn how the code works. It has to handle mixed expressions made up of several data types: decimals, percentages, strings and dates. And dates in the format of dd/mm/yyyy are easy to confuse with a string of devision ops. Is where a good solution to this problem? My own solution that is aimed at keeping the parser simple involves prefixing dates with a special symbol, let's say apostrophe: <date> ::= <apostr><digit><digit>/<digit><digit>/<digit><digit><digit><digit> <apostr> ::= ' <digit> ::= '0'..'9'

• When does a PHP <5.3.0 daemon script receive signals?

  I've got a PHP script in the works that is a job worker; its main task is to check a database table for new jobs, and if there are any, to act on them. But jobs will be coming in in bursts, with long gaps in between, so I devised a sleep cycle like: while(true) { if ($jobs = get_new_jobs()) { // Act upon the jobs } else { // No new jobs now sleep(30); } } Good, but in some cases that means there might be a 30 second lag before a new job is acted upon. Since this is a daemon script, I figured I'd try the pcntl_signal hook to catch a SIGUSR1 signal to nudge the script to wake up, like: $_isAwake = true; function user_sig($signo) { global $_isAwake; daemon_log("Caught SIGUSR1"); $_isAwake = true; } pcntl_signal(SIGUSR1, 'user_sig'); while(true) { if ($jobs = get_new_jobs()) { // Act upon the jobs } else { // No new jobs now daemon_log("No new jobs, sleeping..."); $_isAwake = false; $ts = time(); while(time() < $ts+30) { sleep(1); if ($_isAwake) break; // Did a signal happen while we were sleeping? If so, stop sleeping } $_isAwake = true; } } I broke the sleep(30) up into smaller sleep bits, in case a signal doesn't interrupt a sleep() command, thinking that this would cause at most a one-second delay, but in the log file, I'm seeing that the SIGUSR1 isn't being caught until after the full 30 seconds has passed (and maybe the outer while loop resets). I found the pcntl_signal_dispatch command, but that's only for PHP 5.3 and higher. If I were using that version, I could stick a call to that command before the if ($_isAwake) call, but as it currently stands I'm on 5.2.13. On what sort of situations is the signals queue interpreted in PHP versions without the means to explicitly call the queue parsing? Could I put in some other useless command in that sleep loop that would trigger a signal queue parse within there?

  I am having difficulty with the PHP SoapClient() function. The SOAP request is successful, but the response is returned as an object containing a single XML string with the key "any". • Could CouchDB benefit significantly from the use of BERT instead of JSON?

  I appreciate a lot CouchDB attempt to use universal web formats in everything it does: RESTFUL HTTP methods in every interaction, JSON objects, javascript code to customize database and documents. CouchDB seems to scale pretty well, but the individual cost to make a request usually makes 'relational' people afraid of. Many small business applications should deal with only one machine and that's all. In this case the scalability talk doesn't say too much, we need more performance per request, or people will not use it. BERT (Binary ERlang Term http://bert-rpc.org/ ) has proven to be a faster and lighter format than JSON and it is native for Erlang, the language in which CouchDB is written. Could we benefit from that, using BERT documents instead of JSON ones? I'm not saying just for retrieving in views, but for everything CouchDB does, including syncing. And, as a consequence of it, use Erlang functions instead of javascript ones. This would modify some original CouchDB principles, because today it is very web oriented. Considering I imagine few people would make their database API public and usually its data is accessed by the users through an application, it would be a good deal to have the ability to configure CouchDB for working faster. HTTP+JSON calls could still be handled by CouchDB, considering an extra cost in these cases because of parsing.

• Trying to parse OpenCV YAML ouput with yaml-cpp

  I've got a series of OpenCv generated YAML files and would like to parse them with yaml-cpp I'm doing okay on simple stuff, but the matrix representation is proving difficult. # Center of table tableCenter: !!opencv-matrix rows: 1 cols: 2 dt: f data: [ 240, 240] This should map into the vector 240 240 with type float. Unfortunately, neither of these two help in this particular circumstance. As I understand, the !! indicate that this is a user-defined type, but I don't see with yaml-cpp how to parse that.

  I am parsing many html documents.I am using html agility pack And I want to parse the tabular information from each document. And there may be any number of tables in each document.But I want to extract only one table from each document which has column header name NAME,PHONE NO,ADDRESS.And this table can be anywhere in the document,like in the document there is ten tables and from ten table there is one table which has many nested tables and from nested table there may be a table what I want to extract means table can be anywhere in the document and I want to find that table from the document by column header name.If I got that table then I want to then extract the information from that table. Now I can find the table which has column header NAME,PHONE NO,ADDRESS and also can extract the information from that.I am doing for that is, first I find the all tables in a document by foreach (var table in doc.DocumentNode.Descendants("table")) then for each table got I find the row for each table like, var rows = table.Descendants("tr"); and then for each row I am checking that row has that header name NAME,ADDRESS,PHONENO and if it is then I skip that row and extract all information after that row foreach (var row in rows.Skip(rowNo)) { var data = new List<string>(); foreach (var column in row.Descendants("td")) { data.Add(properText); } } Such that I am extracting all information from almost many document. But now problem is sometimes what happened that in some document I can not parse the information.Like a document in which there are like 10 tables and from these 10 tables 1 table is like there are many nested tables in that table. And from these nested tables I want to find the table which tabel has column header like NAME,ADDRESS,PHONE NO.So if table may be anywhere in the document even in the nested tables or anywhere it can be find through column header name.So I can parse the information from that table and skip the outer tabular information from that table.

• Base64 en/decoding between xstream and iPhone SDK

  I am passing a byte array from a java server to an iPad client in XML. The server is using xstream to convert the byte array to XML with the EncodedByteArrayConverter, which should convert the array to Base 64. Using xstream, I can decode the xml back to the proper byte array in a java client, but in the iPad client, I'm getting an invalid length error. To do my decoding, I'm using the code at the bottom of this page. The length of the string is indeed not a multiple of 4, so there must be something strange with my string - although since xstream can decode it just fine, I'm guessing there's just something I need to to on the iPad side to get it to decode. I've tried cutting off padding at the end of the string to get it down to the right size, and that does allow the decoder to work, but I end up with JPG's that have invalid headers, and are not displayable. • Extending Python and Objective-C

  I'm a fan of clean code. I like my languages to be able to express what I'm trying to do, but I like the syntax to mirror that too. For example, I work on a lot of programs in Objective-C for jailbroken iPhones, which patch other code using the method_setImplementation() function of the runtime. Or, in PyObjC, I have to use the syntax UIView.initWithFrame_(), which is also pretty awful and unreadable with the way the method names are structured. In both cases, the language does not support this in syntax. I've found three basic ways that this is done: Insane macros. Take a look at this "CaptainHook", it does what I'm looking for in a usable way, but it isn't quite clean and is a major hack. There's also "Logos", which implements a very nice syntax, but is written in Perl parsing my code with a ton of regular expressions. This scares me. I like the idea of adding a %hook ClassName, but not by using regular expressions to parse C or Objective-C. Finally, there is Cycript. This is an extension to JavaScript which interfaces with the Objective-C runtime and allows you to use Objective-C style code in your JavaScript, and inject that into other processes. This is likely the cleanest as it actually uses a parser for the JavaScript, but I'm not a huge fan of that language in general. Should, and how should, I create an extension to Python and Objective-C to allow me to do this? Is it worth writing a parser for my language to transform the syntax into something nicer, if it is only in a very specialized niche like this? Should I just live with the horrible syntax of the default Objective-C hooking or PyObjC?

• Excel Regex, or export to Python? ; "Vlookup" in Python?

  heya, We have an Excel file with a worksheet containing people records. 1. Phone Number Sanitation One of the fields is a phone number field, which contains phone numbers in the format e.g.: +XX(Y)ZZZZ-ZZZZ (where X, Y and Z are integers). There are also some records which have less digits, e.g.: +XX(Y)ZZZ-ZZZZ And others with really screwed up formats: +XX(Y)ZZZZ-ZZZZ / ZZZZ or: ZZZZZZZZ We need to sanitise these all into the format: 0YZZZZZZZZ (or OYZZZZZZ with those with less digits). 2. Fill in Supervisor Details Each person also has a supervisor, given as an numeric ID. We need to do a lookup to get the name and email address of that supervisor, and add it to the line. This lookup will be firstly on the same worksheet (i.e. searching itself), and it can then fallback to another workbook with more people. 3. Approach? For the first issue, I was thinking of using regex in Excel/VBA somehow, to do the parsing. My Excel-fu isn't the best, but I suppose I can learn...lol. Any particular points on this one? However, would I be better off exporting the XLS to a CSV (e.g. using xlrd), then using Python to fix up the phone numbers? For the second approach, I was thinking of just using vlookups in Excel, to pull in the data, and somehow, having it fall through, first on searching itself, then on the external workbook, then just putting in error text. Not sure how to do that last part. However, if I do happen to choose to export to CSV and do it in Python, what's an efficient way of doing the vlookup? (Should I convert to a dict, or just iterate?
