  • Default enum visibility in C++

    - by Benjamin Borden
    I have a class that looks like this: namespace R { class R_Class { enum R_Enum { R_val1, R_val2, R_val3 } private: // some private stuff public: // some public stuff } } I'm performing unit testing using an automated test tool (LDRA). The compiler (GHS) claims that my test harness cannot access the type R::R_Class::R_Enum. I have no trouble accessing the values within a similar class that is defined as such: namespace S { class S_Class { public: enum S_Enum { S_val1, S_val2, S_val3 } } private: // some private stuff public: // some public stuff } Do enums in C++ need to be given explicit visibility directives? If not given any, do they default to private? protected?

  • Can a CWinApp be placed in a DLL?

    - by jmucchiello
    I'm updating some legacy apps to Visual Studio 10 and am in linker hell. All of these DLLs derive classes from CWinApp and use AfxGetApp() to get access to the object. When I link the DLLs I get unresolved externals that look like global static objects that would get pulled in by a normal app's main(): Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CException::classCException" (?classCException@CException@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CFrameWnd::classCFrameWnd" (?classCFrameWnd@CFrameWnd@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static class CRect const CFrameWnd::rectDefault" (?rectDefault@CFrameWnd@@2VCRect@@B) My current combination of ignore default libraries and additional libraries (the method you can easily google to find the answer to linker hell) is: msvcprtd.lib,mfc100d.lib,mfcs100d.lib,libcmtd.lib When I add nafxcwd.lib (the mfc library), these three external symbols resolve but I end up with a bunch of other duplicate symbols (requiring the use of /FORCE:MULTIPLE) and in end __argc and __argv become unresolved. So the basic question is: Can you link a DLL containing a CWinApp in VS10? How do you setup the linker to do it?

  • Are delegates copied during assignment to an event?

    - by Sir Psycho
    Hi, The following code seems to execute the FileRetrieved event more than once. I thought delegates were a reference type. I was expecting this to execute once. I'm going to take a guess and say that the reference is being passed by value, therefore copied but I don't like guesswork :-) public delegate void DirListEvent<T>(T dirItem); void Main() { DirListEvent<string> printFilename = s => { Console.WriteLine (s); }; var obj = new DirectoryLister(); obj.FileRetrieved += printFilename; obj.FileRetrieved += printFilename; obj.GetDirListing(); } public class DirectoryLister { public event DirListEvent<string> FileRetrieved; public DirectoryLister() { FileRetrieved += delegate {}; } public void GetDirListing() { foreach (var file in Directory.GetFiles(@"C:\")) { FileRetrieved(file); } } }

  • Discover generic types

    - by vittore
    Thanks @dtb for help, he advised really need piece of code for generic service locator static class Locator { private static class LocatorEntry<T> where T : ... { public static IDataManager<T> instance; } public static void Register<T>(IDataManager<T> instance) where T : ... { LocatorEntry<T>.instance = instance; } public static IDataManager<T> GetInstance<T>() where T : ... { return LocatorEntry<T>.instance; } } However in my previous version I used reflection on assembly to discover a hundred of DataManager's I want to write an method discover like the following void Discover() { var pManager = new ProtocolSQLDataManager(); Register(pManager); var rManager = new ResultSQLDataManager(); Register(rManager); var gType = typeof(ISQLDataAccessManager<>); foreach (Type type in Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetTypes()) { if (type.IsSubclassOf(gType) && !type.IsAbstract)) { var manager = Activator.CreateInstance(type); // put something here in order to make next line of code works Register<T>(manager); } } } How to cast type to appropriate type in order to make Register working( and call appropriate Register ?

  • Best practice for storage and retrieval of error messages.

    - by ferrari fan
    What is a best practice for storing user messages in a configuration file and then retrieving them for certain events throughout an application? I was thinking of having 1 single configuration file with entries such as REQUIRED_FIELD = {0} is a required field INVALID_FORMAT = The format for {0} is {1} etc. and then calling them from a class that would be something like this public class UIMessages { public static final String REQUIRED_FIELD = "REQUIRED_FIELD"; public static final String INVALID_FORMAT = "INVALID_FORMAT"; static { // load configuration file into a "Properties" object } public static String getMessage(String messageKey) { // return properties.getProperty(messageKey); } } Is this the right way to approach this problem or is there some de-facto standard already in place?

  • How do I merge multiple PDB files ?

    - by blue.tuxedo
    We are currently using a single command line tool to build our product on both Windows and Linux. Si far its works nicely, allowing us to build out of source and with finer dependencies than what any of our previous build system allowed. This buys us great incremental and parallel build capabilities. To describe shortly the build process, we get the usual: .cpp -- cl.exe --> .obj and .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .dll .lib .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .exe .pdb The msvc C/C++ compiler supports it adequately. Recently the need to build a few static libraries emerged. From what we gathered, the process to build a static library is: multiple .cpp -- cl.exe --> multiple .obj and a single .pdb multiple .obj -- lib.exe --> a single .lib The single .pdb means that cl.exe should only be executed once for all the .cpp sources. This single execution means that we can't parallelize the build for this static library. This is really unfortunate. We investigated a bit further and according to the documentation (and the available command line options): cl.exe does not know how to build static libraries lib.exe does not know how to build .pdb files Does anybody know a way to merge multiple PDB files ? Are we doomed to have slow builds for static libraries ? How do tools like Incredibuild work around this issue ?

  • accessing widgets inside a GWT element

    - by flyingcrab
    I want to access the text elements inside this textbox in GWT from the main method (where I call it like this) DialogBox aBox = newCandidatePop.buildNewElecPopup(); aBox.center(); aBox.getWidget(); MiscUiTools.newCandidateHandler(aBox.firstName, aBox.surName); in newCandidateHandler i want to attach a click handler to the two text boxes However, the above doesnt quite work - I cant get access to the aBox.firstName elements because they are static methods -- I am wondering what is best practice, how would you code something like this up? static TextBox firstName = new TextBox(); static TextBox surName = new TextBox(); static DialogBox box; // public newCandidatePop() { // box = buildNewElecPopup(); // } static public DialogBox buildNewElecPopup() { DialogBox box = new DialogBox(); box.setAutoHideEnabled(true); box.setText("Add a New Candidate"); box.setAnimationEnabled(true); box.setGlassEnabled(true); Grid dialogGrid = new Grid(2, 3); dialogGrid.setPixelSize(250 , 125); dialogGrid.setCellPadding(10); dialogGrid.setWidget(0, 0, new HTML("<strong>First Name</strong>")); dialogGrid.setWidget(0, 1, firstName); dialogGrid.setWidget(1, 0, new HTML("<strong>Surname</strong>")); dialogGrid.setWidget(1, 1, surName); box.add(dialogGrid); return box; }

  • How `is_base_of` works?

    - by Alexey Malistov
    Why the following code works? typedef char (&yes)[1]; typedef char (&no)[2]; template <typename B, typename D> struct Host { operator B*() const; operator D*(); }; template <typename B, typename D> struct is_base_of { template <typename T> static yes check(D*, T); static no check(B*, int); static const bool value = sizeof(check(Host<B,D>(), int())) == sizeof(yes); }; //Test sample class Base {}; class Derived : private Base {}; //Exspression is true. int test[is_base_of<Base,Derived>::value && !is_base_of<Derived,Base>::value]; Note that B is private base. Note that operator B*() is const. How does this work? Why this works? Why static yes check(D*, T); is better than static yes check(B*, int); ?

  • How to make safe frequent DataSource switches for AbstractRoutingDataSource?

    - by serg555
    I implemented Dynamic DataSource Routing for Spring+Hibernate according to this article. I have several databases with same structure and I need to select which db will run each specific query. Everything works fine on localhost, but I am worrying about how this will hold up in real web site environment. They are using some static context holder to determine which datasource to use: public class CustomerContextHolder { private static final ThreadLocal<CustomerType> contextHolder = new ThreadLocal<CustomerType>(); public static void setCustomerType(CustomerType customerType) { Assert.notNull(customerType, "customerType cannot be null"); contextHolder.set(customerType); } public static CustomerType getCustomerType() { return (CustomerType) contextHolder.get(); } public static void clearCustomerType() { contextHolder.remove(); } } It is wrapped inside some ThreadLocal container, but what exactly does that mean? What will happen when two web requests call this piece of code in parallel: CustomerContextHolder.setCustomerType(CustomerType.GOLD); //<another user will switch customer type here to CustomerType.SILVER in another request> List<Item> goldItems = catalog.getItems(); Is every web request wrapped into its own thread in Spring MVC? Will CustomerContextHolder.setCustomerType() changes be visible to other web users? My controllers have synchronizeOnSession=true. How to make sure that nobody else will switch datasource until I run required query for current user? Thanks.

  • Magi squares, recursive

    - by user310827
    Hi, my problem is, I'm trying to permute all posibilities for 3x3 square and check if the combination is magic. I've added a tweak with (n%3==0) if statement that if the sum of numbers in row differs from 15 it breaks the creation of other two lines... but it doesn't work, any suggestions, I call the function with Permute(1). public static class Global { //int[] j = new int[6]; public static int[] a= {0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; public static int[] b= {0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}; public static int count = 0; } public static void Permute(int n) { int tmp=n-1; for (int i=0;i<9;i++){ if (Global.b[i]==0 ) { Global.b[i]=1; Global.a[n-1]=i+1; if ((n % 3) == 0) { if (Global.a[0+tmp]+Global.a[1+tmp]+Global.a[2+tmp] == 15) { if (n<9) { Permute(n+1); } else { isMagic(Global.a); } } else break; } else { Permute(n+1); } Global.b[i]=0; } } }

  • Can the get of a property be abstract and the set be virtual?

    - by K. Georgiev
    I have a base class like this: public class Trajectory{ public int Count { get; set; } public double Initial { get; set { Count = 1; } } public double Current { get; set { Count ++ ; } } } So, I have code in the base class, which makes the set-s virtual, but the get-s must stay abstract. So I need something like this: ... public double Initial { abstract get; virtual set { Count = 1; } } ... But this code gives an error. The whole point is to implement the counter functionality in the base class instead in all the derived classes. So, how can I make the get and set of a property with different modifiers?

  • Relative cam movement and momentum on arbitrary surface

    - by user29244
    I have been working on a game for quite long, think sonic classic physics in 3D or tony hawk psx, with unity3D. However I'm stuck at the most fundamental aspect of movement. The requirement is that I need to move the character in mario 64 fashion (or sonic adventure) aka relative cam input: the camera's forward direction always point input forward the screen, left or right input point toward left or right of the screen. when input are resting, the camera direction is independent from the character direction and the camera can orbit the character when input are pressed the character rotate itself until his direction align with the direction the input is pointing at. It's super easy to do as long your movement are parallel to the global horizontal (or any world axis). However when you try to do this on arbitrary surface (think moving along complex curved surface) with the character sticking to the surface normal (basically moving on wall and ceiling freely), it seems harder. What I want is to achieve the same finesse of movement than in mario but on arbitrary angled surfaces. There is more problem (jumping and transitioning back to the real world alignment and then back on a surface while keeping momentum) but so far I didn't even take off the basics. So far I have accomplish moving along the curved surface and the relative cam input, but for some reason direction fail all the time (point number 3, the character align slowly to the input direction). Do you have an idea how to achieve that? Here is the code and some demo so far: The demo: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/24530447/flash%20build/litesonicengine/LiteSonicEngine5.html Camera code: using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; public class CameraDrive : MonoBehaviour { public GameObject targetObject; // rot = rot + ( 0.1f * Time.deltaTime * mouse_x ); // wrapAngle( rot ); // //when the target object rotate, it rotate too, this should not happen UpdateOrientation(this.transform.forward,targetObject.transform.up); camRoot.transform.RotateAround(camRoot.transform.up,rot); //debug the relcam dir RelativeCamDirection() ; //this camera this.transform.position = camPivot.position; //set the camera to the pivot this.transform.LookAt( camTarget.position ); return next_position; } } Some observation: I have the correct input, I have the correct translation in the camera direction ... but whenever I attempt to slowly lerp the direction of the character in direction of the input, all I get is wild spin! Sad Also discovered that strafing to the right (immediately at the beginning without moving forward) has major singularity trapping on the equator!! I'm totally lost and crush (I have already done a much more featured version which fail at the same aspect)

  • php - Can I integrate functions with same content, different names?

    - by Gal
    I have a couple of functions inside a class that essentially do the same thing: public function fn_a(){ return __FUNCTION__; } public function fn_b(){ return __FUNCTION__; } public function fn_c(){ return __FUNCTION__; } I need those functions to remain in their current names so I intentionally did not do: public function fn_($letter){ return __FUNCTION__.$letter; } I was hoping for some sort of way to minify the verboseness of code here, since they all do the same. The ultimate situation would be something like this: public functions fn_a, fn_b, fn_c() { return __FUNCTION__; } Another solution, if applicable, might be doing something like Class's "extends": fn_b, fn_c extend fn_a? What do you think guys?

  • How to create tests for poco objects

    - by Simon G
    Hi, I'm new to mocking/testing and wanting to know what level should you go to when testing. For example in my code I have the following object: public class RuleViolation { public string ErrorMessage { get; private set; } public string PropertyName { get; private set; } public RuleViolation( string errorMessage ) { ErrorMessage = errorMessage; } public RuleViolation( string errorMessage, string propertyName ) { ErrorMessage = errorMessage; PropertyName = propertyName; } } This is a relatively simple object. So my question is: Does it need a unit test? If it does what do I test and how? Thanks

  • Android WebViewClient problem

    - by deSelby
    I've defined a private class that extends WebViewClient and set my WebView's client to an instance of that class (webView01.setWebViewClient(new Callback());). The class definition is as follows: private class Callback extends WebViewClient { public void onLoadResource (WebView view, String url) { } public void onPageStarted (WebView view, String url, Bitmap favicon) { } public void onPageFinished (WebView view, String url) { Animation anim = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(MyNews.this, R.anim.webviewanim); view.startAnimation(anim); } public void onReceivedError (WebView view, int errorCode, String description, String failingUrl) { } public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading (WebView view, String url) { Log.e("loading url", url); return false; } } My problem is that onPageFinished is definitely getting called, but shouldOverrideUrlLoading is never being called. What am I doing wrong here?

  • C#/ASP.NET MVC 4 Instantiate Object Derived From Interface In Factory Method

    - by Chris
    Currently have a Factory class that features a GetSelector function, which returns a concrete implementation of ISelector. I have several different classes that implement ISelector and based on a setting I would like to receive the appropriate ISelector back. public interface ISelector { string GetValue(string Params); } public class XmlSelector : ISelector { public string GetValue(string Params) { // open XML file and get value } } public static class SelectorFactory { public static ISelector GetSelector() { return new XmlSelector(); // Needs changing to look at settings } } My question is what is the best way to store the setting? I am aware of using AppSettings etc. but I'm not sure whether I want to have to store strings in the web.config and perform a switch on it - just seems to be really tightly coupled in that if a new implementation of ISelector is made, then the Factory would need to be changed. Is there any way of perhaps storing an assembly name and instantiating based on that? Thanks, Chris

  • java gui changing picture causes heapspace error

    - by pie154
    I have a java programme than when a button is clicked it updates the image on screen to the according image. this will work for the first 15 or so clicks then it causes a java heapspace error. I think it is because of the way I am updating the jpanel that contains the bufferedimage but not sure what the reason is. My code to get make the JPanel contain the new image is, public class extraScreenPanel { static JPanel screenPanel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout()); public static JPanel extraScreenPanel(int dispNum) { JLabel label = new JLabel("" + dispNum + ""); label.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); //label.setUI( new VerticalLabelUI(true) ); label.setVerticalAlignment( SwingConstants.TOP ); screenPanel = imgDisp(dispNum); label.setForeground(Color.white); label.setFont(new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 200)); screenPanel.add(label, BorderLayout.PAGE_END ); return screenPanel; } public static JPanel imgDisp(int picNum) { /* String url[] = new String[5000]; String part1; url[0] = "C:/PiPhotoPic/pic16.jpg"; for(Integer i=1;i<5000;i++){ if(i<10){part1 = "C:/temp/new0000000";} else if(i<100){part1 = "C:/temp/new000000";} else if(i<1000){part1 = "C:/temp/new00000";} else {part1 = "C:/temp/new00000";} String num = Integer.toString(i); url[i]= part1 + num + ".jpg"; } if(picNum<0){picNum=0;} String ref = url[picNum];*/ //this code is just to get specific ref for image location BufferedImage loadImg = loadImage(ref); JImagePanel panel = new JImagePanel(loadImg, 0, 0); panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); return panel; } public static class JImagePanel extends JPanel{ private BufferedImage image; int x, y; public JImagePanel(BufferedImage image, int x, int y) { super(); this.image = image; this.x = x; this.y = y; } @Override protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); g.drawImage(image, x, y, null); } } public static BufferedImage loadImage(String ref) { BufferedImage bimg = null; try { bimg = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(new File(ref)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } BufferedImage bimg2 = resize(bimg,800,600); return bimg2; } public static BufferedImage resize(BufferedImage img, int newW, int newH) { int w = img.getWidth(); int h = img.getHeight(); BufferedImage dimg = dimg = new BufferedImage(newW, newH, img.getType()); Graphics2D g = dimg.createGraphics(); g.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION, RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR); g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, newW, newH, 0, 0, w, h, null); g.dispose(); return dimg; } } And the code that updates my gui is, it works by removing the panel from its containg panel and then readding it to it. picPanel = imgDisp.imgDisp(num); repaintPicPanel(); public static void repaintPicPanel() { picPanel.removeAll(); menuPanel.remove(picPanel);; menuPanel.add(picPanel, BorderLayout.LINE_START); }

  • Auto-Implemented Properties c#

    Hi all, could someone explain me what's the idea behind using Auto-Implemented Properties c#? public class Customer { public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } I get the motivation to use properties for private field, so we can determine how one can access a private field. But here - it's just like defining the field to be public from the first place. no? Is there a difference between defining a field to be "public const" or define it to have a get-only property ?     Are there any frameworks that assist me with this: (thinking that perhaps StructureMap can help me) Whenever I create a new instance of "MyClass" or any other class that inherits from IMyInterface I want all properties decorated with [MyPropertyAttribute] to be populated with values from a database or some other data storage using the property Name in the attribute. public class MyClass : IMyInterface { [MyPropertyAttribute("foo")] public string Foo { get; set; } } [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Property)] public sealed class MyPropertyAttribute : System.Attribute { public string Name { get; private set; } public MyPropertyAttribute(string name) { Name = name; } }

  • How to set text above and below a JButton icon?

    - by mre
    I want to set text above and below a JButton's icon. At the moment, in order to achieve this, I override the layout manager and use three JLabel instances (i.e. 2 for text and 1 for the icon). But this seems like a dirty solution. Is there a more direct way of doing this? Note -I'm not looking for a multi-line solution, I'm looking for a multi-label solution. Although this article refers to it as a multi-line solution, it actually seems to refer to a multi-label solution. EXAMPLE import java.awt.Component; import java.awt.FlowLayout; import javax.swing.BoxLayout; import javax.swing.Icon; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; import javax.swing.UIManager; public final class JButtonDemo { public static void main(String[] args) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){ @Override public void run() { createAndShowGUI(); } }); } private static void createAndShowGUI(){ final JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); frame.add(new JMultiLabelButton()); frame.pack(); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setVisible(true); } private static final class JMultiLabelButton extends JButton { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7650993517602360268L; public JMultiLabelButton() { super(); setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); add(new JCenterLabel("Top Label")); add(new JCenterLabel(UIManager.getIcon("OptionPane.informationIcon"))); add(new JCenterLabel("Bottom Label")); } } private static final class JCenterLabel extends JLabel { private static final long serialVersionUID = 5502066664726732298L; public JCenterLabel(final String s) { super(s); setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT); } public JCenterLabel(final Icon i) { super(i); setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT); } } }

  • Replacing SUMIFS in Excel 2003

    - by yc
    So, I need to find an Excel 2003 substitute for =SUMIFS, which is only 2007+ (apparently). The formula is used to generate this summary data table, from a list of revenue, where each revenue line has the field type (static, email or outreach) and the field fund (ABC, QRS and XYZ). type fund total count average static ABC $12,390.88 171 $72.46 email ABC $6,051.32 65 $93.10 outreach ABC $8,835.00 138 $64.02 static QRS $12,925.44 79 $163.61 email QRS $9,305.44 99 $93.99 outreach QRS $1,799.00 49 $36.71 static XYZ $4,912.20 36 $136.45 email XYZ $75.00 2 $37.50 outreach XYZ $0.00 0 #DIV/0! This is the formula `=SUMIFS('revenue'!G:G,'revenue'!AH:AH,Sheet2!A2,'revenue'!AI:AI,Sheet2!B2)` Where G is a dollar amount, and AH and AI are matching the type or fund column. How do i get this to work in Excel 2003?
