  I want to make a url query with date. I have confused a little : There is a mysql table: calDate : varchar The query : $sql="select * from calTbl"; $result = mysql_query($sql); while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $n = str_replace("/", "",$row['calDate']); echo '<a href="index.php?p='.$n.'">'.$n.'</a>'; } I want to see related event from query. • How to display a confirmation message in Tapestry5?

  I am developing a website as part of my final year project and I want to display a message which confirms that an email has been sent. I know how to display custom error messages on a form i.e. You cannot go any further until the following errors are fixed : login name not known! I want to display a message which will say: your email has been sent! after I send an email. I have been told that I should display this message through the flash. I am unsure on how to do this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Are default _id fields for MongoDB documents always 24 characters?

  As part of my application requirements, I have a limit of 30 characters for an ID field. This is out of my control and I am wondering if the MongoDB default _id fields will work for me. It appears as though the default _id field is 24 characters long. That works for me, but I am wondering if this is likely to change in the future. I am well aware that things can always change, but, for the next year or two, can I expect there to be 24 character default _id fields?

  I have a textarea that I would like to send a value to and I am using the following to achieve this.. <textarea style="width: 300px; height: 150px;" name="message"></textarea> <a href="#updates" onclick="document.sendform.message.value='7'; return true;"style="color:white">Year 7</a> This is working as expected however it also overwrites any text that is in the textarea already, is there any way I can achieve this without over writing the existing text in the textarea? • Best data store for billions of rows

  I need to be able to store small bits of data (approximately 50-75 bytes) for billions of records (~3 billion/month for a year). The only requirement is fast inserts and fast lookups for all records with the same GUID and the ability to access the data store from .net. I'm a SQL server guy and I think SQL Server can do this, but with all the talk about BigTable, CouchDB, and other nosql solutions, it's sounding more and more like an alternative to a traditional RDBS may be best due to optimizations for distributed queries and scaling. I tried cassandra and the .net libraries don't currently compile or are all subject to change (along with cassandra itself). I've looked into many nosql data stores available, but can't find one that meets my needs as a robust production-ready platform. If you had to store 36 billion small, flat records so that they're accessible from .net, what would choose and why?

• "digg" button and encoded url :S

  Hi! I wrote a php site (it's still a prototype) and i placed a "Digg" button. Placing the button was easy but.... Official manual says "url has to be encoded". I did that with urlencode(). After urlencode, my url looks like this: http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mysite.com%2Fen%2Fredirect.php%3Fl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.othersite.rs%2FNews%2FWorld%2F227040%2FRusia-Airplane-crashed%26N%3DRusia%3A+Airplane+crashed So far, so good but when i want to submit that url to digg, it is recognized as invalid url: http://www.mysite.com/en/redirect.php?l=http://www.othersite.rs/News/World/227040/Rusia-Airplane-crashed&N=Rusia:+Airplane crashed If i place a "+" between "Airplane" and "crashed" (mere end of a link), then digg recognize it without any problems! Please help, this bizare problem is killing my braincells! P.S. for purpose of this answer urls are changed (nonexisting) because, in original, non-english sites are involved P.S.S. • Easiest way to get an NSDate representation of "the next 7am that will occur" in Cocoa?

  I figure I can achieve what I want by using NSCalendar and NSDateComponents, but that would run something like the following: Get "now" Create an NSDateComponents from "now". If "now" is pre-7am, then use today's date. If "now" is post-7am, use tomorrow's date. If today is the last day of the month, increase month, set day to 1. If it was December, increase year by 1 also. Set hour, minute, second. Create a new NSDate. It all seems very long-winded, but that appears to be what other answers on here suggest, and the documentation doesn't offer any clues. I'm going back and forth between all the date and calendar classes I can find. Is there a simple way to ask for the "next occurring 7am" ? Thanks.

• How do I create a thread-safe write-once read-many value in Java?

  This is a problem I encounter frequently in working with more complex systems and which I have never figured out a good way to solve. It usually involves variations on the theme of a shared object whose construction and initialization are necessarily two distinct steps. This is generally because of architectural requirements, similar to applets, so answers that suggest I consolidate construction and initialization are not useful. By way of example, let's say I have a class that is structured to fit into an application framework like so: public class MyClass { private /*ideally-final*/ SomeObject someObject; MyClass() { someObject=null; } public void startup() { someObject=new SomeObject(...arguments from environment which are not available until startup is called...); } public void shutdown() { someObject=null; // this is not necessary, I am just expressing the intended scope of someObject explicitly } } I can't make someObject final since it can't be set until startup() is invoked. But I would really like it to reflect it's write-once semantics and be able to directly access it from multiple threads, preferably avoiding synchronization. The idea being to express and enforce a degree of finalness, I conjecture that I could create a generic container, like so: public class WoRmObject<T> { private T object; WoRmObject() { object=null; } public WoRmObject set(T val) { object=val; return this; } public T get() { return object; } } and then in MyClass, above, do: private final WoRmObject<SomeObject> someObject; MyClass() { someObject=new WoRmObject<SomeObject>(); } public void startup() { someObject.set(SomeObject(...arguments from environment which are not available until startup is called...)); } Which raises some questions for me: Is there a better way, or existing Java object (would have to be available in Java 4)? Is this thread-safe provided that no other thread accesses someObject.get() until after it's set() has been called. The other threads will only invoke methods on MyClass between startup() and shutdown() - the framework guarantees this. Given the completely unsynchronized WoRmObject container, it is ever possible under either JMM to see a value of object which is neither null nor a reference to a SomeObject? In other words, does has the JMM always guaranteed that no thread can observe the memory of an object to be whatever values happened to be on the heap when the object was allocated.

  Dear Guys, I have used the following statement to get the GNUPlot plot a grah for me: plot "force.dat" using 1:2 title "Detroit" with lines, \ "force.dat" u 1:3 t "US Avergae" w linepoints and the "force.dat" looks like 2005 0 0 2006 104 51 2007 202 101 It draws nice graph for me.However,I don't like the X-axis,because it is labelled as 2005,2005.5,2006,2006.5,2007..etc. However,those are year identifiers,I only want the 2005,2006,2007 etc,how could I get rid of the 2005.5,2006.5 etc labels in my GNUPlot graph?   I know this question is to some degree a matter of taste. I admit this is not something I don't understand, it's just something I want to hear others' opinion about. I need to write a method that takes two arguments, a boolean and a string. The boolean is in a sense (which will be obvious shortly) redundant, but it is part of a specification that the method must take in both arguments, and must raise an exception with a specific message text if the boolean has the "wrong" value. The bool must be true if and only if the string is not null or empty. So here are some different styles to write (hopefully!) the same thing.   so this morning, I get a call from a customer who says past 2 weeks of mail is in junk box...apparently emails from my domain is blocked ??? this is not the first time. and i fear that the reason i got no responses back from leads is due to my mails landing in junk box..... i am using google mail on a domain i had purchased a year ago. ever since, it has given me problems. the domain is new and created by me. how can i fix this problem ? is my domain somehow blacklisted ?

  I would like to place two plots side by side using the ggplot2 package (ie. do the equivalent of par(mfrow=c(1,2))). • Does anyone has the experience of using the new p4 replicate command in their Perforce back-up /rest

  Hi all, we recently performed an upgrade of our whole perforce system to 2009.02 During this exercise, we noticed that the back-up /restore process that was installed here by the Perforce consultant a year ago was not completely working. Basically, the verify command has never worked (scary !). As we are obliged to revisit our Back-Up/Restore scripts, I was toying with the idea of using the new p4 replicate command. The idea is to use it alongside an rsync of the data files, so that in case of crash we will lose at worst an hour of work (if we execute them every hour). Does anyone has the experience or an example of back-up/restore scripts using the p4 replicate command of the 2009.02 version ? Thanks, Thomas

It all works well... the only problem: the output from Log.i is cut-off... It's not the complete html page. If I make the same request in a browser, I get 3x the output in opposition to making the request in the emulator and using the above code.... what's wrong?

• Adding relative week number column to MySQl results

  I have a table with 3 columns: user, value, and date. The main query returns the values for a specific user based on a date range: SELECT date, value FROM values WHERE user = '$user' AND date BETWEEN $start AND $end What I would like is for the results to also have a column indicating the week number relative to the date range. So if the date range is 1/1/2010 - 1/20/2010, then any results from the first Sun - Sat of that range are week 1, the next Sun - Sat are week 2, etc. If the date range starts on a Saturday, then only results from that one day would be week 1. If the date range starts on Thursday but the first result is on the following Monday, it would be week 2, and there are no week 1 results. Is this something fairly simple to add to the query? The only ideas I can come up with would be based on the week number for the year or the week number based on the results themselves (where in that second example above, the first result always gets week 1).

  I am going to go ahead and shamelessly duplicate this question because the accepted answer is essentially "nope, no guides" and it's been nearly a year now since it's been asked. Does anyone know of any useful articles, guides, tutorials, etc. for boost::fusion besides the barebones documentation on boost.org? (which I'm sure is great as a reference after one has learned the library.) I'm completely open to, say, a link to a book on Amazon. Searched for it myself just now but all I came up with was green tea. The top links on Google aren't much better.

• Why does Net::Twitter complain "HTTP::Message content not bytes"?

  We have been using Perl's Net:Twitter CPAN module (version 3.12) and basic authentication (not OAuth) for almost a year now to syndicate updates from our site to our Twitter account. We just migrated to a new server last week and since the move our updates to Twitter have stopped and the following error is being reported whenever we try to post an update: HTTP::Message content not bytes at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/HTTP/Request/Common.pm line 90 Here is the code we're using the update our Twitter account: use Net::Twitter; my $twitter = Net::Twitter->new( traits => [qw/API::REST/], username => $username, password => $password, source => 'twitterfeed' ); my $result = $twitter->update($status); I have no idea what the issue is and was hoping that someone else has run into this issue and can provide a quick solution. I would like to know the best way to combine all of my Javascript files into one file to reduce the number of HTTP requests to the server. I have seen many articles on this subject but I'm not sure which one I should look at first (many of them are over a year old). • Comparing two ISO8601 dates strings in PHP

  I need to compare (actually rank/sort) dates in a PHP script. The dates are ISO-8601 Date format i.e. YYYY-MM-DD I wrote a comparison function which splits the dates and compares by year/month/day. However, it seems this may be overkill and I could just as easily done a simple string comparison like: if ($date1 < $date2) // do something elseif( $date1 > $date2) //do something else else //do yet another thing Is my assumption about (ISO-8601) Date string comparison correct - i.e. can I get rid of my function (to save a few clock cycles on the server), or is it safer to explicity do the comparison in a custom function?
