Has the requirement to deploy the .NET framework with a .NET application caused programmers to go back to languages such as C++ where more standalone applications can be created?
Could you tell me what .NET framework installed by default on Windows XP system?
Because I wanted to write a C# application that does not require anything else to be installed.
If none is there any way not to force users to download .net framework (for example 3.5) but install it?
Hi all,
I want to know what the prerequisites are for my application. One is the installed .Net version. How can I know the minimum .NET number necessary to run my application.
I use Visual Studio 2005.
Thanks
What good .NET Continous Integration and Automated Build and Deployment Software is out there?
We have been using CruiseControl.NET but it is really starting to get on our nerves with the amount of maintenance it needs.
We're looking for something that virtually anybody can manage, and it would also really be good to not have to write a NAnt build script. We use Subversion for Source Controll
Hi,
I actually need a way to work with a Flash media Server using c# and asp.net.
And I don't have a clue about how to accomplish that I've been looking for documentation but haven't found anything worth so far.
Thx in advance.

What I want is to edit a Shared Object in FMS from Asp.net.

I had written a Web Service to return a DataSet back to my ASP.Net site and this was working fine. However due to security issues and also the ability to get certain references installed, I have to move this to an App Server and so doing it as a Windows Service and communicating with the ASP.Net site now via sockets.
Is there a way I can easily give the Website a serialized DataSet via Sockets from my App Server so I can read this in and then just carry on using the code I currently have to bind this to a GridView?
I wanted to look at the TailSpin example from PDC2009 but it keeps failing when it does the scan for ASP.NET MVC2 RC2. I'm sure it is installed; Have checked the assembly, System.Web.MVC and it's version 2.0.50129.0. That sould be OK. ASP.NET MVC tools for VS2010 is also installed. Can anyone help me out? How can I overwrite that check?
Hi
I'm doing programming with ASP.NET . I have no idea how to use JavaScript in ASP.NET Server Side controls ( Totally uncomfortable with it ) . Do you mind introduce me some resource for folks like my type , please ?
I've read this article, which describes how instance vs static methods get called with a .NET regex.
However, what about if the instance itself is static? Does anyone know if .NET does any sort of caching that could potentially cause a memory leak?
How do i do this in .NET? http://why.does.my.head.asplode.net/ I want to do something like ytmnd where each url is a different user generated page. I might need something as simple as pointing to a directory so dirname.mysite.com will redirect to http_public/userGenContent/dirname/
I've had a little search and I was wondering if there is back compatibility for the .NET framework.
The real question is, if there's a program that uses .NET Framework 1.1, can I install 3.5 and be done, or do I have to install 1.1 and then if something uses 3.5 I have to install 3.5 as well?
i want to know about the Asp.net MVC 2. where i can find out all feature of dot net 4 and mvc 2. are anywhere a good cheat sheet avilable for MVC 2.
are anywhere i can find all topic of mvc2.
Is it possible to configure CruiseControl.NET to send an email to the user(s) that did modifications to a broken build by mapping their SVN username to the corresponding Active-Directory alias (hence retrieving the correct, updated email address).
Our SVN server is set-up to allow users of a certain Active-Directory group to read and commit changes: I don't want to have to maintain the CruiseControl.NET config every time a user gets added to our Programmers group in Active-Directory.
Thanks a lot!
Hi all,
I am looking to execute a password change over Net-ssh and this code seems to hang:
Net::SSH.start(server_ip, "user", :verbose => :debug ) do |session|
session.process.popen3("ls") do |input, output, error|
["old_pass","test", "test"].each do |x|
input.puts x
end
end
end
I know the connection works because using a simple exec I can get the output from ls on the remote server, but this hangs.
Any ideas?
The last message from debug is that the public key succeeded.
Hi
This is a java noob related question. Have been looking at Liferay portal technology, however I'm a dotnet (c# or vb) developer by day. Does anyone know if you can use the install of liferay to host dotnet code, not just by using the iFrame method of redirecting to a different site - that just sucks in my opinion
Alternatively is the saner option to go down the port my skills back to java?
Thanks
Mark
My Table:
[LocationId]
[Address]
[ZipCode]
When I show a list of Location's, I also want to show the distance from a given zip code.
In Asp.Net Web Forms I had a stored procedure that would return the distance and I would call this SP on ItemDataBound on my GridView.
Or, I also would have my SP that is returning the Location list add another column ([Distance]) which I could display in my GridView.
How would you do this using Entity Framework and Asp.Net Mvc 2?
I am reading the Asp.net security documentation on msdn.I come across these tow terms and get really confused.
# WindowsIdentity = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent(),
which returns the identity of the security context of the currently executing Win32 thread.
# Thread = Thread.CurrentPrincipal
which returns the principal of the currently executing .NET thread which rides on top of the Win32 thread.
I have a python method that returns a Python byte array.array('c').
Now, I want to copy this array using System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.Copy. This method however expects a .NET array.
import array
from System.Runtime.InteropServices import Marshal
bytes = array.array('c')
bytes.append('a')
bytes.append('b')
bytes.append('c')
Marshal.Copy(bytes, dest, 0, 3)
Is there a way to make this work without copying the data? If not, how do I convert the data in the Python array to the .NET array?
I am running windows server with asp.net websites and sql server 2008 and IIS 6. It is working fine.
Now I need to move my asp.net websites to another windows server and I have hard time setting correct file security for the new server.
Is there any way to compare or move or see difference file security between two servers?

best .net build tool
Hey,
We have been using CruiseControl.NET but it is really starting to get on our nerves with the amount of maintenance it needs.
We're looking for something that virtually anybody can manage, and it would also really be good to not have to write a NAnt build script. We use Subversion for Source Control.
We have a largish MFC app that is our main product. This app is being actively developed and there are no plans to stop development. I am new to windows development, but I get the impression that MFC is dead and all the new growth and enhancements are in .net. Is this view accurate? What criteria should we consider when deciding if we should convert this application to .net.
Here I'm asking why.
I have asked the how question here
I have an ASP.NET MVC application where the default page should be an index.html.
I can browse to the file using www.mydomain.com/index.html but if I use www.mydomain.com I get a 404.
I have check to see if the default document is correctly set in IIS7 and it is and I have even commented out all my routes to ensure it isn't that.
Does anyone know how to get ASP.NET MVC to serve the default document?
Using ASP.net, what methods can I use to do the following:
Open up a connection to a given URL to read HTML content
Parse the given URL for hyperlinks, and place them in an array
Loop through each hyperlink (only 1 level down), opening each one, saving the HTML contents in a table, and move to the next hyperlink until done.
If ASP.net is not up to the task, other languages or free scripts/toolkits would be acceptable.
Thanks.
I am generating a System.Drawing.Bitmap on the fly in an ASP.NET Custom Web Server Control, and then I want to serve this bitmap as part of the WebResource, because I do not want to save it on the hosting computer.
Is there a way to instruct ASP.NET to serve the generated System.Drawing.Bitmap as part of it's WebResource? (therefore making it an "Embedded Resource")
