  I'm developing a CMS (with Django, but that doesn't matter) and have chosen GIT. Installations will vary in: Configs Database contents Media Templates First 3 are not a problem with git: we simply don't need these :) While developing, I have 1 default template with related media. Later, each customer will receive his own design based on default templates (some slight customization). I'm not going to support each of the custom templates as I introduce new features. Modularity helps with this but is not a 100% solution. Do you have any experience to share?

  I am helping a startup business to launch and I will be building or finding a shopping cart software for its website. There will only be one product for sale, but anytime someone buys a product, I have to use customer information like their zipcode and which distributor they bought from to calculate commissions that will go to the different distributors. All the incoming money will be sent to one sort of escrow account for a few weeks, and after that few weeks is over, I need to be able to "throw the switch" and cause each of the 20,000 distributors to get their rightful share of that escrow account, depending on the data stored that reflects their sales activity and commissions due. Is this something I can write a script to handle? Better yet, is this something an inexpensive or open source solution can handle, or something that can be setup in something like Paypal? Or is a better approach to somehow create a webpage where each distributor can login to and see their commissions due and initiate the account transfer on their own, but the web app restrict them from transferring more than what they're due? I have used it before for a single application and works well but was wondering if it technically possible to use this architecture for a SaaS? Once code base but custom plugins for each customer using some form of custom folders to organize the plugins? Idea would be to use one main code base instead of having to maintain code for N number of clients. Ideas? Thoughts? Experience either way?

  My rails website uses the open_flash_graph plugin to generate flash graphs for my clients. If a customer doesn't have flash installed, it doesn't display any messages, it simply doesn't show any graphs. I've noticed that if I go to other websites that need flash, I get a yellow bar at the top of my firefox window that offers to "Install Missing Plugin". I assume something in the HTML lets firefox know that this webpage needs flash. What code do I need to add to my website to make this work?

  In this thread many people have indicated that they use log4net. I am a fan of TraceSources and would like to know why log4net is used. Here is why I like trace sources: Pluggable listeners - XML, TextFile, Console, EventLog, roll your own Customisable trace switches (error, warning, info, verbose, start, end, custom) Customisable configuration The Logging Application Block is just a big set of TraceListeners Correlation of activities/scopes (e.g., associate all logs within an ASP.NET request with a given customer The Service Trace Viewer allows you to visualize events against these activities individually All of it is configurable in app.config/web.config. Since the .NET framework internally uses TraceSources, it also gives me a consistent way of configuring tracing - with log4net, I have to configure log4net as well as TraceSources. What does log4net give me that TraceSources don't (or that couldn't be done by writing a couple of custom TraceListeners)?

  Hi, I am relatively new to databases,so please forgive me if my query sounds trivial. I need to send bulk email to all the contacts listed in a particular table. The body of the email is stored in a .doc file which begins as Dear Mr. _. The SQL server will read this file, append the last name of the contact in the blank space and send it to the corresponding email address for that last name. Any thoughts on how to proceed with this? Any insights,suggestions,tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi all, I'm creating a centralised web product, i.e. a customer gets assigned a personal domain, for example company1.example.com or company2.example.com and can then use our service. I'm planning to integrate a jabber service into the website. I have already found a decent jabber client library which I can use for the site. I know that jabberd2 uses mysql, which is perfect because I want to use the web interface to add users, delete users, view message logs etc. However, my problem is when I have two companies or more. I would like a jabber server which can host multiple domains, i.e. jabber.company1.example.com, jabber.company2.example.com Do you have any experience of this? And do you know of a good jabber server which will do this? Any help would be hugely appreciated!

  Hi, In our applications we make html documents as reports and exports. But now our customer wants a button that saves that document on their pc. The problem is that the document includes images. Therefore I'm looking for an alternative PDF seems to be a good alternative, does anyone know a good pdf writer for C#? One that has some good references and has been tested properly?   At least two brilliant programmers, Linus Torvalds and Guido von Rossum, disparage the practice of putting keywords into a file that expand to show the version number, last author, etc. I know how keyword differences clutter up diffs. One of the reasons I like SlickEdit's DiffZilla is because it can be set to skip leading comments. However, I have vivid memories of team-programming where we had four versions of a file (two different releases, a customer one-off, and the development version) all open for patching at the same time, and was quite helpful to verify with a glance that each time we navigated to an included header we got the proper one, and each time we pasted code the source and destination were what we expected. There is also the where-did-this-file-come-from problem that arises when a hasty developer copies a file from one place to another using the file system, rather than checking it out of the repository using the tool; or, more defensibly, when files under control in locations A, B, and C need to be marshalled (with cherry-picking) into a distribution location D. In places where VCS keywords are banned, how do you cope?

• Large PHP enable web form - around 75 field - how best to send email with all fields?

  Have created simple Ajax enabled contact forms before that have around 12 fields - worked fine.... Now working on a PHP enabled web page for job applications that has around 100 fields. The ajax technique I was using was to send request via querystrings (&val1=test;&val2=test2 and etc ...) That is not going to scale very well with larger form with 100+ fields.   Hi there, I want to describe the following situation in an UML Classdiagram: A day, on which a newspaper is send to a customer. This day could be sth. like "every friday" or "every first day of a month". My idea to represent this in a UML Classdiagram: -targetDay:Integer -targetDayGrid:Enumeration targetDay would be sth. like "1" (for monday) oder "5" (for friday) or it could be "1" for the first day of the month or "10" for the 10th day of the month. targetDayGrid is an enum: weekly, monthly. So the enum sets the semantic meaning of the number in targetDay. I´m not happy with this, do you know any other solution to represent my problem? Or do you think my solution is okay?

  I have ELMAH setup on my production server and it has done a fantastic job of letting me know about any niggles - as well as any creative SQL injection! I've decided to introduce URl Rewriting and went for http://www.urlrewriting.net/ in the end. It was nice and easy to setup and it's doing exactly what I want with the customer-facing site. The problem is ELMAH. • OpenCart Service Scheduling

  I am looking to develop an extension to OpenCart which will allow me to both sell products and sell scheduled services. For the scheduled services, I would like to have the storefront interface change so the customer sees a calendar. It would be Nirvana for the calendar to show only available dates/times, but at the very least they should see a calendar. Then, on the administrative side, there should be a place where there is a list of desired dates/times for scheduled services. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of community-developed extensions which do this, or come close? If not, any recommendations for how to accomplish this properly are welcome. Thanks in advance.

• Does Windows Azure support the Application Warm-Up module or something similar?

  We have a Web Role that we are hosting in Windows Azure that uses an old ASMX based Web Reference to contact an external system. The Web Reference proxy code is big enough that instantiating it the first time has a significant cost. We'd like to be able to have this run when the Web Role starts instead of on the first request. I know IIS 7.5 has an Application Warm-Up module that would allow us to achieve this, but I'm having trouble figuring out if something similar exists with hosting on Windows Azure. Thanks, Corey

I'm looking for a good resource that coves the following topics: How to create an interface that promotes code maintainability and is extensible for future upgrades. Library creation guidelines. Example, when should I consider using static vs dynamic libraries. How to properly design an ABI to cope with either one. Header files: what to partition out and when. Examples on when to use 1:1 vs 1:many .h to .c Anything you feel I missed but is important when attempting to architect a new C project. Ideally, I'd like to see some example projects ranging from small to large and see how the architecture changes depending on project size, function or customer.
