• Best open source server notification software

  I am looking for an open source notification/monitoring software which will work much like growl does with a mac. It would be awesome if I could receive certain messages to my mac computer from my server when lets say it restarts or some predefined error happens etc. Anyone know of anything like that? I know of Nagios but I am thinking not as complex.

  I have a SQL Server 2005 Database on a dedicated partition, during the time the database grown and now it have occupied all the space on the partition, now the problem is that the only operation I can do on the database is detach, but i want to remove old data from some tables to save space ... How can I remove old data from the database if SQL Server interface doesn't allow to run queries on it ?

  Hi all, I have a question concerning hard disk permission after Using boot camp, i have a macbook pro 17 i7, 500gb, yesterday i installed window 7 ultimate in 80 gb (bootcamp) ntfs offcourse. I was testing my HD permission since i found that the start up is slow in mac side. I found there's alot of changes in permissions is that normal or i should to repair all this permission problems, need to mention that from Windows side i can see my mac drive which i don't want... • migrating innodb ib* files to different server and distribution.

  One of our customers had a break in on an old centos 4.4 machine, so I booted a debian live cd and copied the whole /var/lib/mysql. I then, on a new debian, copied the desired database and ibdata+iblogfiles, and removed the "autoextend" bits from my.cnf - restarted mysql. But I get 'Incorrect information in file'. Paths are the same as the old centos server, and permissions and ownership is correct. What am I missing?

• emails not working after domain has been forwarded to new hosting?

  What's the best course of action after the forwarding of domain has been done and apparently the email has been forgotten to be taken into account? I just forwarded the domain to a new server hosting and i forgot to take into account the emails from the old provider? A few concerns arise: the emails won't be lost, right? will pointing the MX records to the old mail server IP address fix this issue right away? Thanks!

• Unable to SSH to a virtualbox Redhat

  I am using a MAC and using virtualbox to start a Redhat instance. The instance is started with two adapters (first being NAT, and second being host-only-adapter). The problem is that I am unable to SSH from my Mac to the virtualbox instance using the IP (I am able to ping the IP, though). I checked in the iptables and SSH is allowed (port 22), and sshd daemon is also running. Anything I am missing?

  I'm on the market for something small, size of an Mac Mini, could be heavier, that packs a lot of compute power - goal is to have a fast, known development machine at customer's site, but still easier to fly with than desktop-replacement laptops. If Mac Mini came with a quad-core i7, it would be my likely choice. Any other manufacturers to look at? Or perhaps a Mini can be upgraded beyond official specs?

• Copy an existing OS X install from another drive

  I just bought a new solid state drive, and I'd like to copy all of the files and setup from my current Mac OS X hard drive onto it. What is the best way to do this? I have a 1TB external hard drive, my drive backed up on Time Machine, and Snow Leopard on a DMG, but no external mount for the SSD, and no install DVD (it's at my parents house, promise). I'm familiar with the command line and booting up Mac OS X from a hard drive.

  I run dnsmasq locally as a cache server, in the old days, I allow all INPUT packets from lo+, and set policy of INPUT to DROP: -A INPUT -i lo+ -j ACCEPT Now I decide to put this on the raw table to speed up rules matching, -A PREROUTING -i lo+ -j ACCEPT But that doesn't work as expected. Why? Since the packets get processed by the raw table first, then nat, then filter, why isn't that rule work the same as the old one?

  Hello all-- so, a DLL is similar to a folder, but it allows for multiple programs/executables to access it at once, thus conserving memory (I think). What is Mac's equivalent of a DLL? I was looking through the Google Chrome folders inside ~/Library/Application Support, and instead of the regular Windows Default.dll there was just a folder, "Default" as a regular file, with contents, I assume, would regularly be inside the DLL. Does the Mac equivalent provide the same function?

• How do I edit git's history to correct an incorrect email address/name

  When I started using git I just did a git init and started calling add and commit. Now I am starting to pay attention and I can see that my commits are showing up as cowens@localmachine, rather than the address I want.   I am using Xampp for a local dev server, I am trying to upgrade it so I can use the latest version of PHP. I had it installed in my c drive c:\webserver\php I just installed everything new in a new drive D d:\webserver\php I then boot everything up and then I run phpinfo() and it is still showing my old version of PHP and even points to the old php installation C:\webserver\php\php.ini Am I missing something obvious here?
