• Outlook connected to exchange does not send email

  I have multiple machines with Outlook 2010 connected to RackSpace hosted exchange server. Everything works fine, but emails send after a while since outlook started will not leave the outbox. Clicking Send & Receive will display the progress bar at 100% completed with no errors, but is not really finishing. The Cancel All button is still active. The emails in the outbox are bold & italic, so ready to be send. When I close outlook and start it again, the mails are sent immediately without problems. I have tried the following: Checked if there are any third party addins: only Microsoft Add ins Checked if the virus scanner is blocking anything, but McAfee is not doing this. Checked and Repaired the .ost file Increased the server time-out from 30 seconds to 60 seconds Nothing helped. Any suggestions?

• Digital "Post It" notes for organizing content of sites/pages

  We're restructuring our old intranet into a new one and are going through each site to find content and use our new standard structure/look-and-feel. Do you recommend a tool where you can do "digital Post-It" notes? It would provide a way to type some items on a "card" and be able to move it around and organize it quickly. Also, if you know of tools in general for this kind of task, please advise. Thank you.

• A new tool in beta: Conflict Alert

  You know that manual merges are a real pain? Well, I’ve just released a Visual Studio extension that makes manual merges a thing of the past. No source control system can automatically merge two edits to the same line of code. Conflict Alert solves this by warning you that you are heading down a path that will cause a manual merge later down the line. You choose whether you want to carry on, or talk to your teammate and find out what they are doing. Have you ever warned your teammates that you are doing a big refactor, and that they should ‘keep out of class X’? Conflict Alert tells them for you automatically by highlighting the sections of code that you have edited.   It doesn’t need to connect to your source control system, so it works no matter which you use. • Connection Closed and Connect Reset By Peer Errors [on hold]

  We're running freebsd + jail, and lighttpd + fastcgi + php_cgi. We changed our domain and all of a sudden we are getting SPORADIC connection closes. We recently changed our subdomain from www to shop but really there have been no other major changes. When I modified lighttpd's server.max-read-idle from default 60 to 5 the connection close message comes much more rapidly however it has not corrected the issue.

• Tracking contributions from contributors not using git

  I have a central git repo located on a server. I have many contributors that are not tech savvy, do not have server access, and do not know anything about git. But they are able to contribute via the project's web side. Each of them logs on via a web browser and contributes to the project. I have set things up so that when they log on, each user's contributions are made into a cloned repo on the server that is specifically for that user. Periodically, I log on to the server, visit each of their repos, and do a git diff to make sure they haven't done anything bad. If all is well, I commit their changes and push them to the central repo. Of course I need to manually look at their changes so that I can add an appropriate commit message. But I would also like to track who made the changes. I am making the commit, and I (and the web server) are the only users that are actually writing anything to the server. I could track this in the commit messages. While this strikes me as wrong, if this is my only option, is there a way to make userx's cloned repo always include "userx: " before each commit message that I add, so that I do not have to remind myself which user's repo I am in? Or even better, is there an easy way for me to make the commit, but in such a way as I credit the user whose cloned repo I am in?

• KVM guest disk performance

  My KVM guest does max. 200MB/s although the host does easily 700MB/s (Raid 0 with 4 SSDs). Configuration: File-based storage (raw), cache none. Host 24 cores, 96GB ram, Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and virt-manager. I suspect the CPU to be the bottleneck (one core goes up during hdparm). Anyone experienced the same or has an explanation ? Edit: one more info: guest is the same as host (Ubuntu 12). Same poor disk performance observed with Windows 2008 R2 and Suse Enterprise Linux (9 or 10 I think). Max 1 guest running.

• ffmpeg installation error

  Now that I"m down to the last part to install the FFMPEG it tells me to do the following cd /usr/local/src/ffmpeg/ ./configure --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libogg --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-libvorbis --disable-mmx --enable-shared make make install ln -s /usr/local/lib/libavformat.so.50 /usr/lib/libavformat.so.50 ln -s /usr/local/lib/libavcodec.so.51 /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.51 ln -s /usr/local/lib/libavutil.so.49 /usr/lib/libavutil.so.49 ln -s /usr/local/lib/libmp3lame.so.0 /usr/lib/libmp3lame.so.0 ln -s /usr/local/lib/libavformat.so.51 /usr/lib/libavformat.so.51 When i get to the part ./configure --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libogg --enable-libamr-nb --enable-libamr-wb --enable-libvorbis --disable-mmx --enable-shared I get the error Unknown option "--enable-libogg". See ./configure --help for available options. I've tried removing the --enable-libogg but does not seem to help.

• VS 11 vs VS 2012 [closed]

  I'm using Visual Studio 11 Beta at home, mainly for learning purposes. But now it's possible to download VS 2012 RC. Does it make sense to install it instead? Does it have many changes comparing with VS 11? I know that VS 11 doesn't work with Azure, was it fixed in VS 2012? EDIT: Actually I found this: What’s new in the RC since Beta, which describes changes in RC and if I decide to install it, I don't need to uninstall previous version: We’ve enabled upgrade from beta to RC, so if you’re using the same product edition (e.g. Professional, Ultimate, etc.), you do not need to uninstall the beta first. Simply run the Visual Studio 2012 RC installer, which will uninstall the right Beta bits and lay down the RC bits, all at once.

• Ubuntu boot is slower than Windows 7

  One of the reasons I installed Ubuntu (Wubi installer) was for a supposedly quick boot time. My boot time with Windows 7 is about 20-25 seconds, while my boot with Ubuntu is 30-40. I judged the boot times from the time after I selected the operating system on the initial selection menu and the grub menu, respectively. This is even after following all sorts of online guides to improve it. I've done driver profiling (and yes, I remembered to remove the "profile" edit in the grub file afterwards), I've cut a fair few startup programs out, and I've installed the preload package. But I'm still getting startup rates phenomenally slower than Windows 7. Any help here?

• An experiment: unlimited free trial

  The .NET Demon team have just implemented an experiment that is quite a break from Red Gate's normal business model. Instead of the tool expiring after the trial period, it now continues to work, but with a new message that appears after the tool has saved you a certain amount of time. The rationale is that a user that stops using .NET Demon because the trial expired isn't doing anyone any good. We'd much rather people continue using it forever, as long as everyone that finds it useful and can afford it still pays for it. Hopefully the message appearing is annoying enough to achieve that, but not for people to uninstall it. The neat thing for .NET Demon is that we can easily measure exactly how much time .NET Demon has saved you, in terms of unnecessary project builds that Visual Studio would have done. When you press F5, the message shows you the time saved, and then makes you wait a shorter time before starting your application. Confronted with the truth about how amazing .NET Demon is, who can do anything but buy it? The real secret though, is that while you wait, .NET Demon gives you entertainment, in the form of a picture of a cute kitten. I've only had time to embed one kitten so far, but the eventual aim is for a random different kitten to appear each time. The psychological health benefits of a dose of kittens in the daily life of the developer are obvious. My only concern is that people will complain after paying for .NET Demon that the kittens are gone.

• Ubuntu DVR - what are the options?

  According to my research, the best solution to use ubuntu server as a DVR system would be ZoneMinder. is there any alternatives to zoneminder out there? I'm not really happy it only has a web interface to control/view my cameras. And it doesn't have an option to record video stream non-stop. Am I missing something in its configuration? And the thing I really disappointed, I cant find a way to control my PTZ camera with it. what do manufacturers sell along with their standalone linux powered dvr systems?

• New website - best practice for requirements specs? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Extracting user requirements from a person who does not know how to express himself As a hobby freelancer I'm new to this. I've never had a non-technical client before explain to me what his future website is supposed to do. A person wants me to make a website for him and he basically explained to me what's it about. However, he's not a technical person and he just doesn't understand what I need to know and how to properly describe/explain it to me. When I ask him how a user is supposed to submit an entry to the website he told me "He fills out a form.", which is not really helping me. This was just an example, it goes on for other sections of the website as well which are a lot harder to explain. The website will be aimed at a specific professional user demographic and I have no clue about their profession and how their industry works. I tried to find some good Product Requirements Document templates on Google but none of them really seemed like they could help him understand how to write it so I can understand what he wants/needs. Can somebody please give me a hint on how to deal with such non-technical clients?

• Simultaneously execute two queries on a shell script

  I have a shell script in which I have to execute two queries (on different databases), spool their results to text files and finally call a c++ program that processes the information on those text files. Something like this: sqlplus user1/pw1@database1 @query1.sql sqlplus user2/pw2@database2 @query2.sql ./process_db_output Both queries take some time to execute. One of them can take up to 10 minutes, while the other one is usually faster. What I want to do is execute them simultaneously and when both are done, call the processing utility. Any suggestion on how to do so?

• Auto_raise broken in GNOME 3.4.1?

  Since dist-upgrading 12.04 LTS in such a manner as resulted in an upgrade of GNOME from 3.2.x to 3.4.1, auto_raise is broken. I have the usual auto_raise* settings set in gconf, in apps - metacity - general. But the functionality just doesn't work anymore. Focus follows mouse works fine, yes, but windows just no longer raise after a short delay. I have tried both gconf and tweak tool-based remedies, to no avail. Any ideas on how to work around this? Auto-raise is a really integral part of my workflow.

• J2ME character animation with multiple sprite sheets

  I'm working on a J2ME game and I want to have walking animations. Each direction of walking has a separate sprite sheet (i.e. one for walking up, one for walking right etc), I also have a static idle image for each direction held together in a single file. I've tried to hold an array of sprites in my player class and then just drawing the sprite corresponding to the current direction, but this doesn't seem to work. I'm aware that if I combine all the animations into one sprite sheet I could set up different animation sequences, but I want to be able to do it with separate images for each animation. Is there a way that anyone knows of to achieve this? And ideally without too much extra code (as opposed to combining the sprites into one sheet)

• Should actors in a game be responsible for drawing themselves?

  I am very new to game development, but not to programming. I am (again) playing around with a Pong type game using JavaScript's canvas element. I have created a Paddle object which has the following properties... width height x y colour I also have a Pong object which has properties such as... width height backgroundColour draw(). The draw() method currently is resetting the canvas and that is where a question came up. Should the Paddle object have a draw() method responsible for its drawing, or should the draw() of the Pong object be responsible for drawing its actors (I assume that is the correct term, please correct me if I'm incorrect). I figured that it would be advantagous for the Paddle to draw itself, as I instantiate two objects, Player and Enemy. If it were not in the Pong's draw(), I'd need to write similar code twice. What is the best practice here? Thanks.

• I am so confused about desktop/viewport switching, all I want to do is bind keyboard shortcuts to switch desktops

  I've installed a pre-made Ubuntu 10.04 image at work, and I can't seem to figure out how to get desktop switching to work. No shortcuts work, and all the help I can get from the Ubuntu forums is "CTRL-Alt-Left/Right should work." So lemme get this straight. Switching between desktops is deprecated, so we use viewports, which are managed by Compiz, which has one of the most absurd configuration managers out there. Lovely. Can anyone straighten this out for me, and anyone else who might stumble on this question?

• Webapps don't open correctly when using Chromium

  I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 completely fresh, the old version of Ubuntu was discarded or overwritten (or whatever you call it). I want to use the Ubuntu webapps with Chromium but I've had several problems. }The first problem is that Chromium won't ask me if I want to install a webapp if I go to a supported site (and I don't already have the webapp installed). The second problem is that when I install the webapp by visiting the site in Firefox, and then I try to open it in Chromium, Ubuntu will open a completely new Chromium icon and window in the Launcher, and the icon will be labeled "Untitled"; also there is no search bar in the new window, only the tab at the top. I've tried using several webapps with Firefox set as the default browser and they work as expected: once the webapp icon is clicked a Firefox window is opened on the Firefox launcher icon, and the window has 'new tab' button and search bar.

• Do I need to have a proxy server to have HTTP over SSH?

  I want to use HTTP over SSH since in my university most of the sites are blocked. I have my own server to which I can using SSH. What I'm doing right now is have a squid proxy run on the server on a particular port. Then connect using putty to my server via ssh and create a tunnel from a certain local port (which I will enter as proxy server in Firefox) to the squid server. So in putty the configuration is like this for the tunnel: source port:8080 destination:localhost:3128 I want to know is there any other way other than running the squid proxy on my server to tunnel the packets? • removing an ssrs instance from a scale-out deployment

  If you're like me you had at one time connected one of your Reporting Services instances to a report server database that was already in use by another instance.  This allows the instance to show up in the Scale-out Deployment section of the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.  My problem was that the server that got joined to the original server was no longer available as it had been repurposed, and when I clicked Remove Server to remove it from my scale-out it would fail because it couldn't contact the server.  After searching for a solution for quite some time I decided to look around in the report server database tables, and voila!  All I had to do was remove the old server from the Keys table.  I can't guarantee there won't be any side effects to this method, but it worked like a charm for me.

  I am using ID3DX10Sprite to draw 2D image on the screen. 3D scene contains only one textured sprite placed over the whole window area. Render method looks like this: m_pDevice-ClearRenderTargetView(...); m_pSprite-Begin(D3DX10_SPRITE_SORT_TEXTURE); m_pSprite-DrawSpritesImmediate(&m_SpriteDefinition, 1, 0, 0); m_pSprite-End(); Now I want to make some transformations with the sprite texture in a shader. Currently the program doesn't work with shader. How it is possible to add pixel shader to the program with this structure? Inside the shader, I need to set all colors equal to red, and multiply pixel values by some coefficient.   So basically after doing a few updates - my Ubuntu 12.04 told me that an error has occuredand when i tried to report it it said this is not an official ubuntu package please remove packages and try again or something of the sort - now my terminal shortcut doesnt work and my windows all appear in the upper left corner how can I fix this and how can I find what's causing the issues? • How to disable all window borders from the VLC playback window

  Is there a way to make the VLC playback window completely borderless (no title bar, no other borders)? Ideally, I would like the playback window to be completely borderless and then a separate window that has the controls (play, pause, timeline control, etc). UPDATES: I cannot use full screen mode, I would like playback window to be sized the same as the video, which is usually about 300x300 px. Also, I need to be able to position the window anywhere on the desktop. I'm using the Windows version of VLC.
