  • Continuously asking for partial upgrade

    I just upgraded my Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 after the announcement of the final release of Ubuntu 12.04. The upgrade process went fine. But now when I run the update manager it asks for a partial upgrade. But the funny thing is it installs 84 new packages in installation step, remove all the 84 packages in the cleaning step!!! This is happening recursively(Every time I launch the update manager). Please can you suggest something?     In a blogpost Jono explained a nice way to test the latest version of Natty. Under point four he proposes: Step 4: Update Although you installed the latest daily you should ensure it is up to date, and you can do this with: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Now, I followed all the steps and am actually writing this question from a session running on a 4GB USB stick. When trying to update the installation though (I just tried to do that using the Update Manager), it always fails because I do not have enough disc space remaining. How can I get Ubuntu to update properly on my USB stick?

  • can't update 12.04 getting package header error

    I originally posted this question, and was redirected to another thread where the question had already been asked. I then posted to that thread and had my post deleted by moderator fossfreedom, and told to post a "new" question... so wth ever.... I don't care if it's old or new I just need help here people! In a nutshell, I can't use sudo apt-get update or the GUI update tool to update my system. Anytime I try using either tool it gives me an error about packages missing headers. I can't send error reports, I have tried all the listed solutions from this post: I can't update my system properly, "no package header" error and from this post: "Problem with MergeList" error when trying to do an update and neither one work. I just want a working solution since I don't have the means of re-installing the OS entirely, and I REALLY don't want to have to go back to using Windows.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't work after update

    12.10 doesn't work after a partial distribution update. I had some trouble before I began the update, and the Partial Update thingy appeared. It took about 6 hours to update/upgrade, don't know why. After the update, I restarted the laptop and nautilus doesn't appear nor does Unity. I can't switch to Gnome or anything else to try and fix it. The resolution is weird (doesn't fill out the right side of the screen). I'm almost sure it's Compiz who's the sinner (or me.) but I need help to get everything working again. Internet connections is fine. I have tried sudo apt-get install -f and sudo apt-get upgrade and so on.

    If you configure Exchange Server 2007 for auto-reply on a public address, and the reply is sent to an address that also has auto-reply or out-of-office-auto-reply, then Exchange Server will receive a new message, same from-address, and will again send an auto-reply. This can go on forever and can potentially lead to a DoS situation. How can I prevent multiple sending of auto-reply to the same address, preferably in a given timeframe (to prevent legitimate multiple mails to be treated incorrectly), using Exchange Server 2007? Our XS hosting provider says it cannot be done, but that strikes me as odd.

    I installed a new computer. After I installed I update everything and let the computer runs for days. Then I don't know what my daughter do. The computer stop responding. Windows update no longer work. People said to run fix it. Fix it run and after that the problem still persist and it still doesn't work. The problem changes though. Before there is some error code. Now windows update simply "updating" never end. So I downloaded KB947821. It's been 3 hour and it's still installing. Looks like it hit firewall or something. i don't see windows update on firewall exception list. However, I've never heard that this is an issue. Firewall only protect against incoming transaction, not outgoing right? Or what am I missing. What should I do?

However after every windows update this one application stops working. Browser says that server is unavailable. It starts working again when I simply open IIS manager, select that https binding, click edit and without changing anything click OK. Why is this happening?

I have a bunch of items in my queue It's set to auto-publish once a day It's set to only publish between 1am and 3am The next morning nothing will be published. The interface isn't perfectly clear - is it attempting to auto-post at a time that's not between 1 - 3 and then giving up?

    Is there a way to make the file/dir auto-complete in bash case insensitive? For example I would like to write: /opt/ibm/whatever/test [TAB] And bash will auto-complete it to: /opt/IBM/Whatever/TESTfile Or at least only the last part of test to TESTfile. I know that filesystems are case-sensitive, I just don't want to remember which parts are UPPER-case, I want auto-complete to fix the path for me. And if I have both TESTfile and testfile, just show me both of them like bash does today with auto-complete conflicts.

Is there a way, I can selectively remove one or two of the entries alone without having to delete all of Auto Complete entries?     I'm setting up DB auto failover in C# with SQL Server 2008 and I have a 'high safety with automatic failover mirror' using a witness setup and my connection string looks like "Server=tcp:DC01; Failover Partner=tcp:DC02; database=dbname; uid=sewebsite;pwd=somerndpwd;Connect Timeout=10;Pooling=True;" During testing, when I turn off the SQL Server service on the principal server the auto failover works like a charm, but if I take the principal server offline (by shutting down the server or killing the network card) auto failover does not work and my website just times out. I found this article where the second last post suggests that its because we are using named pipes which does not work when the principal goes offline, but we force TCP in our connection string. What am I missing to get this DB auto failover working?

    I've tried disabling "Save AutoRecover information" option, but to no avail. The window "Excel has recovered the following files" still pops up at the start. Any other ideas? UPD Auto-recover window is shown each start after I terminate Excel during my debug session. All file entries Excel shows in the auto-recover window are dated by year 1601. I checked Excel auto-recover folder, and there is no any real file there.

    I need at least Java 1.6 to run a program that someone else in my lab wrote On the Java website it tells me to update Java via apple's software update function, i've run this a few times but it only got up to Java 1.5.0_24 and it now says no more updates are available for my computer Is there another way to update Java on a Mac? Is my operating system maybe to old for Java 1.6? i'm not sure what i'm running exactly, and i can't find a list of what mac operating systems run what versions of Java because the java site just suggests using Mac's software update.

I only want to update the row in the import table with the id of the banner from the banner table if the count is equal to 1.
