  • Ubuntu 12.04 External HD Issues

    - by Anthie Georgiadi
I am experiencing one more problem with my Ubuntu 12.04... I have an External HD (500GB) which is NTFS formatted. I connected this HD on my Ubuntu 12.04 and copied some files. When I connected the HD on a Windows 7 machine I could find the folders (the were visible) but I wasn't able to copy/cut/delete them. However when I opened the folders I could handle the material (mp3s) in them. Does anybody know how can I fix this? How can I fully access and modify folders copied from Ubuntu via a Windows machine? Thanks in advance!

  • Uninstalling Wubi

    - by DvoglaviOrao3
I installed wubi in a 30GB partition and I wanted to delete that so that I could install Ubuntu via usb with a larger partition. So I went to the control panel to find Ubuntu but it wasn’t there. I decided to go into the c drive and deleted the Ubuntu file. BUT now every time i boot up it asks me to choose windows 7 and Ubuntu (like I still have dual boot) and if I choose Ubuntu it says "windows could not find this file" and then says the path of the file. what should I do to remove this old wubi/ubuntu?

  • Automatically delete files after they expire

    - by Auxiliary
I've got this idea for some time and I was wondering if anyone has seen such a feature/app in any operating system and if you haven't, what do you think about it. Where do you think I should begin? The idea is simple. I think we all have those files that are made and probably used for a few days and then are left on our disk and we never delete them or even check to see if we need them again. It'd be cool if you could right click on a file and click on "Expire in.. 3 days" for example. And the file gets deleted after 3 days. I have a great need for this and maybe some people will find it useful. I was thinking of writing a script and use the Nautilus Action project in GNOME for a start.

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Find and Replace ALT-F not working

    - by wag2639
I'm using a demo of Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 and I've notice that they no longer open the Find and Replace in a separate window. The problem with this, at least on Windows 7, is that I can't use the normal hotkey shortcuts like ALT-F because its being intercepted by the main Window and brings up the file menu drop down. Is there a fix for this?

  • iTerm2 Vim alt+right/left arrow

    - by Ben Mezger
As a Linux user, I am very used to jump from word to word in vim/nano using ALT+left or right. This doesn't seem to work properly using iTerm, I am using zsh, I tried adding; bindkey -e bindkey '^[[1;9C' forward-word bindkey '^[[1;9D' backward-word It does work, but inside zsh only, then I commented those lines and added in iTerm a keyboard shortcut; It does work, but only for the ALTleft How can I make it work for the right arrow too?

  • Is there a way of using ctrl-r after typing part of command in bash?

    - by skeept
In bash the ctrl-r command is very useful, I type ctrl-r whatever and it searchs my history for commands containing the word whatever. But if I type whatever and realize that I would like search that word and hit ctrl-r nothing happens. Is there a way hitting a key and having it behaving as if I had typed ctrl-r whatever instead of whatever ctrl-r? I have the following in my .inputrc "\C-p": history-search-backward but this only works if the beginning of the line is the same.

  • Delete record in Linq to Sql

    - by Anders Svensson
I have Linq2Sql classes User, Page, and UserPage (from a junction table), i.e. a many-to-many relationship. I'm using a gridview to show all Users, with a dropdownlist in each row to show the Pages visited by each user. Now I want to be able to delete records through the gridview, so I have added a delete button in the gridview by setting "Enable deleting" on it. Then I tried to use the RowDeleting event to specify how to delete the records since it doesn't work by default. And because its a relationship I know I need to delete the related records in the junction table before deleting the user record itself, so I added this in the RowDeleting event: protected void GridView2_RowDeleting(object sender, GridViewDeleteEventArgs e) { int id = (int)((DataKey)GridView2.DataKeys[e.RowIndex]).Value; UserPageDBDataContext context = new UserPageDBDataContext(); var userPages = from userPage in context.UserPages where userPage.User.UserID == id select userPage; foreach (var userPage in userPages) context.UserPages.DeleteOnSubmit(userPage); context.SubmitChanges(); var user = context.Users.Single(u => u.UserID == id); context.Users.DeleteOnSubmit(user); context.SubmitChanges(); } This actually seems to delete records, because the record with the id in question does indeed disappear, but strangely, a new record seems to be added at the end...! So, say I have 3 records in the gridview: 1 Jack stackoverflow.com 2 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 3 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever Now, if I try to delete user 1 (Jack), record number 1 will indeed disappear in the gridview, but the same record will appear at the end with a new id: 2 Jack stackoverflow.com 3 Betty stackoverflow.com/questions 4 Joe stackoverflow.com/whatever I have tried searching on how to delete records using Linq, and I believe I'm doing exacly as the examples I have read (e.g. the second example here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Bb386925%28v=VS.100%29.aspx). I have read that you can also set cascade delete on the relationship in the database, but I wanted to do it this way in code, as your supposed to be able to. So what am I doing wrong?

  • how to delete multiple folders, desktop and start menu shortcut using vbscript

    - by user1756858
I never did any vbscript before, so i don't know if my question is very easy one. Following is the flow of steps that has to be done : Check if exist and delete a folder at c:\test1 if found and continue. If not found continue. Check if exist and delete a folder at c:\programfiles\test2 if found and continue. If not found continue. Check if a desktop shortcut and start menu shortcut exist and delete if found. If not exit. I could delete 2 folders with the following code: strPath1 = "C:\test1" strPath1 = "C:\test1" DeleteFolder strPath1 DeleteFolder strPath1 Function DeleteFolder(strFolderPath1) Dim objFSO, objFolder Set objFSO = CreateObject ("Scripting.FileSystemObject") If objFSO.FolderExists(strFolderPath) Then objFSO.DeleteFolder strFolderPath, True End If Set objFSO = Nothing But i need to run one script to delete 2 folders in different paths, 2 shortcuts one in start menu and one on desktop. I was experimenting with this code to delete the shortcut on my desktop: Dim WSHShell, DesktopPath Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") DesktopPath = WSHShell.SpecialFolders("Desktop") on error resume next Icon = DesktopPath & "\sample.txt" Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set A = fs.GetFile(Icon) A.Delete WScript.Quit It works fine for txt file on desktop, but how do i delete a shortcut for an application from desktop as well as start menu.

  • SQL SERVER – Curious Case of Disappearing Rows – ON UPDATE CASCADE and ON DELETE CASCADE – T-SQL Example – Part 2 of 2

    - by pinaldave
Yesterday I wrote a real world story of how a friend who thought they have an issue with intrusion or virus whereas the issue was really in the code. I strongly suggest you read my earlier blog post Curious Case of Disappearing Rows – ON UPDATE CASCADE and ON DELETE CASCADE – Part 1 of 2 before continuing this blog post as this is second part of the first blog post. Let me reproduce the simple scenario in T-SQL. Building Sample Data USE [TestDB] GO -- Creating Table Products CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Products]( [ProductID] [int] NOT NULL, [ProductDesc] [varchar](50) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Products] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ProductID] ASC )) ON [PRIMARY] GO -- Creating Table ProductDetails CREATE TABLE [dbo].[ProductDetails]( [ProductDetailID] [int] NOT NULL, [ProductID] [int] NOT NULL, [Total] [int] NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_ProductDetails] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ProductDetailID] ASC )) ON [PRIMARY] GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[ProductDetails] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_ProductDetails_Products] FOREIGN KEY([ProductID]) REFERENCES [dbo].[Products] ([ProductID]) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE GO -- Insert Data into Table USE TestDB GO INSERT INTO Products (ProductID, ProductDesc) SELECT 1, 'Bike' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'Car' UNION ALL SELECT 3, 'Books' GO INSERT INTO ProductDetails ([ProductDetailID],[ProductID],[Total]) SELECT 1, 1, 200 UNION ALL SELECT 2, 1, 100 UNION ALL SELECT 3, 1, 111 UNION ALL SELECT 4, 2, 200 UNION ALL SELECT 5, 3, 100 UNION ALL SELECT 6, 3, 100 UNION ALL SELECT 7, 3, 200 GO Select Data from Tables -- Selecting Data SELECT * FROM Products SELECT * FROM ProductDetails GO Delete Data from Products Table -- Deleting Data DELETE FROM Products WHERE ProductID = 1 GO Select Data from Tables Again -- Selecting Data SELECT * FROM Products SELECT * FROM ProductDetails GO Clean up Data -- Clean up DROP TABLE ProductDetails DROP TABLE Products GO My friend was confused as there was no delete was firing over ProductsDetails Table still there was a delete happening. The reason was because there is a foreign key created between Products and ProductsDetails Table with the keywords ON DELETE CASCADE. Due to ON DELETE CASCADE whenever is specified when the data from Table A is deleted and if it is referenced in another table using foreign key it will be deleted as well. Workaround 1: Design Changes – 3 Tables Change the design to have more than two tables. Create One Product Mater Table with all the products. It should historically store all the products list in it. No products should be ever removed from it. Add another table called Current Product and it should contain only the table which should be visible in the product catalogue. Another table should be called as ProductHistory table. There should be no use of CASCADE keyword among them. Workaround 2: Design Changes - Column IsVisible You can keep the same two tables. 1) Products and 2) ProductsDetails. Add a column with BIT datatype to it and name it as a IsVisible. Now change your application code to display the catalogue based on this column. There should be no need to delete anything. Workaround 3: Bad Advices (Bad advises begins here) The reason I have said bad advices because these are going to be bad advices for sure. You should make necessary design changes and not use poor workarounds which can damage the system and database integrity further. Here are the examples 1) Do not delete the data – well, this is not a real solution but can give time to implement design changes. 2) Do not have ON CASCADE DELETE – in this case, you will have entry in productsdetails which will have no corresponding product id and later on there will be lots of confusion. 3) Duplicate Data – you can have all the data of the product table move to the product details table and repeat them at each row. Now remove CASCADE code. This will let you delete the product table rows without any issue. There are so many things wrong this suggestion, that I will not even start here. (Bad advises ends here)  Well, did I miss anything? Please help me with your suggestions. • Hide annoying VMware hint "To release input, press Ctrl+Alt"

    - by EMP
I'm running VMWare Workstation 7 on Windows 7 x64. In the guest OS (also Windows 7 x64) I have VMWare Tools installed, but the VMWare Tools service is disabled. I run the VM in full screen mode and the VMWare toolbar at the top often displays this tooltip: To release input, press Ctrl+Alt This tooltip obscures a part of the VM (often the menu of a program I'm using) and it's annoying as hell. Going out of full screen mode and into it again gets rid of it, but only until I mouse over that toolbar and then it reappears! How do I get rid of it, once and for all? I tried adding hints.hideAll = "TRUE" to the .vmx file for the VM and to preferences.ini and neither of those helped.

  • pfSense command to delete stale SAD

    - by Justin Shin
I'm experiencing an issue with pfSense where duplicate SAD's are getting created after rekeying, forcing me to manually go ahead and delete the old SAD's. It's not a huge issue but it does get to be a problem once I let it go for a few days. I just installed the cron package for pfSense so I could run a script to identify stale SAD's and delete them but I am not that familiar with BSD or pfSense. Is there a command that enumerates SAD's and their properties, and another that can delete by ID? I can form the conditional parts of the script but I do not know the commands to run. I would imagine it would be something like: Enumerate SAD's Identify Duplicate ones by matching Source and destination IP's Find the one with the larger bytes transferred Delete

  • DELETE method not working in Apache 2.4

    - by Xavi
I'm running Apache 2.4 locally and dealing with RESTful services authenticating through OAuth. GET, PUT and POST work fine but I can't get DELETE to work. I've tried installing WebDAV and mod_dav, overriding methods in .htaccess, tried Limits, force (enable) DELETE options in configuration and pretty much everything I've found in Google and StackExchange. Here's a copy of my .htaccess right now: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Header add Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * Header add Access-Control-Allow-Headers: Authorization Header add Access-Control-Allow-Headers: X-Requested-With Header add Access-Control-Request-Method: HEAD Header add Access-Control-Request-Method: GET Header add Access-Control-Request-Method: PUT Header add Access-Control-Request-Method: DELETE Header add Access-Control-Request-Method: OPTIONS Options +FollowSymlinks Options -Indexes RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^(.*)\.* index.php [NC,L] </IfModule> Chrome's console shows: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://dev.server.com/cars/favourite/. Method DELETE is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Methods. Is there anything I am missing?

  • Ctrl+Z and fg to append commands

    - by avilella
I would like to know what is the behaviour of Ctrl+Z and fg in bash when wanting to append commands to be executed after a running command has finished. For example, in the sequence for commands below, I would expect the console to display "1", then "2", then "3", then "4", but I only get the last command, echo 4, after sleep 30 finishes: avilella@magneto:~$ sleep 30 && echo 1 ^Z [1]+ Stopped sleep 30 avilella@magneto:~$ fg && sleep 5 && echo 2 sleep 30 ^Z [1]+ Stopped sleep 30 avilella@magneto:~$ fg && sleep 5 && echo 3 sleep 30 ^Z [1]+ Stopped sleep 30 avilella@magneto:~$ fg && sleep 5 && echo 4 sleep 30 4 Any ideas?

  • Batch Script to Find Certain words and delete those lines in a file

    - by SuperUserMan
EDITED THE QUESTION as regarding type of solutions I am on Windows & some suggested SED etc. So i am OK with these 3rd party standalone exe's using command line Say i have following lines in abc.txt file "@yuy007 what are you doing friend #disneyrocks" "STFU, i dont care what you think @happy55" "@social88 @gg99 ok mate see you at the subway :)" "btw arnold was great in that movie @tt11 @gg11 #disneyrocks" "we are going to disney. Do you want to? #disneyrocks" "We dont like disney.#disneyrocks we are not going" ".@socialguy what are you upto #disneyrocks " I need to employ 5 filters with above file to get def.txt Delete all lines which start with @ character, like 1st and 3rd Delete all lines which start with .@ characters, like 7th Delete all lines which don't have any word starting with # like 2nd and 3rd In leftover lines, Delete all words starting with @ character (keeping the lines intact) like words @happy55 in 2nd , @social99 & @gg99 in 3rd, etc. In this case we still need to preserve quotes " at start and end of line Delete all the blank lines left after above lines are removed EDIT if i have following line , it wrongly deletes the content after @word's "btw arnold was great in that movie @tt101 @gb1997 #whatthehell" is edited to "btw arnold was great in that movie" Thanks

  • Cannot delete files on samba share when authenticated using kerberos

    - by ondra
I have a samba server that authenticates users using LDAP, however it does have kerberos enabled as well. Unfortunately users authenticated using kerberos cannot delete files. I can test this using smbclient - if I use the '-k' switch, I cannot delete the files, if I don't, I can. The users does have read/write/execute access to the directory from where he is trying to delete the file. Any idea what might be wrong?

  • Mac keyboard shortcut to rm file

    - by MattDiPasquale
What's the Mac keyboard shortcut to rm a file? I know command + delete sends it to trash, but I want to permanently delete it, say with command + fn + delete. UPDATE: It doesn't look like there is one. So, I want to create a service with Automator and then assign a keyboard shortcut to it from System Preferences. I can get to Automator - Service - Service receives selected files or folders in Finder.app, but how do I write the script that then runs rm -rf #{file/folder name}?
