• Not being able to `make` in terminal on Mac OS X 10.7

- by AlanTuring
Hi so i am trying to install the commands wget and with-readline for use with Mac OS X's terminal. The configuration seems to work fine for both even though i am required to specify for the first one, host= i686-apple. When i get to the make part of the installation, the output is as follows. For wget: for with-readline so does anyone have any idea what's going on? Pastie links: wget: http://pastie.org/4925079 with-readline: http://pastie.org/4925083 Thanks in advance.

• How to setup terminal service gateway in my RDP client

- by Stan
I am using "RD Tabs" to bypass the terminal service gateway to RDP to the remote host. Usually I use browser and go to https://webvpn.company.com:777 with my account. Now in RD Tabs advanced settings, it's asking server name and authentication method. How should I fill this information? I tried below: server: webvpn.company.com:777 authentication: Attempt TLS But it's not working, what could be wrong? Thanks.

• Release/Renew IP Address via Terminal in OS X

- by Rupert
I am looking to release and renew my IP address in OS X 10.4 using Terminal. Essentially, I need the OS X equivalent of Windows: C:\ ipconfig /release C:\ ipconfig /renew However, I need the interface to remain active during this process, so using ifconfig down/up will not work. I believe I can clear the IP with ifconfig delete but I'm not sure how to get the dhcp client to reassign the address. An article from 2002 suggests using set dhcp but Apple's ifconfig man page does not include this information.

• OS X Terminal showing incorrect hostname

- by Erik W
I have a brand new MacBook Air. The reason I mention this is that I want to be clear that I don't think I'm responsible for this problem, as I haven't been hacking up my prefs. Anyhow... When I open Terminal I expect it to show what my PS1 is set to (\h:\W \u\$) however it's not displaying my hostname (Eriks-MacBook), as displayed in System Preferences, it's showing some random string (unknownb88d120cd4b2). Any ideas? Thanks...

• How exactly does gnome manage laptop suspend events?

- by jcline
The reason I ask is that, while suspend under lid closure and fn-F4 work perfectly in the Ubuntu (gnome) desktop, I cannot get them to work when using a different window manager (fvwm) on my thinkpad X201. I thought this was taken care of by gnome-power-manager, but when running gnome-power-manager within fvwm, I get no suspend from lid closure or fn-F4. I tried starting other processes as well, like gnome-settings-daemon, but this had no effect. I also tried fiddling with acpi settings, without sucess.

• No Items show in dash of gnome-shell when using "Axiom" Theme?

- by Hailwood
I am using the awesome Axiom Gnome-Shell theme from Deviantart. The theme works perfectly except for one issue, no items show up in the dash? The actual items are there, e.g. if I type in something I know exists and then press enter it opens the program, there are simply no icons visible. Why is this? Yet after some more playing I have discovered some other funkyness, for example, if a lot of items are returned by the search you get:

• How can I show Thunderbird Lightning tasks and events in the Gnome Clock applet?

- by Niriel
We used to have this functionality with Evolution: clicking on the date-time in the gnome panel would show a list of events/tasks/appointments from the Evolution Calendar. As an interesting side effect, one would receive alarm notifications even when Evolution wasn't running. Now that Thunderbird is the default email client, I'd imagine that there is a similar functionality for Lightning (Thunberbird's calendar). I just can't find it. Maybe it's not ready ?

• GNOME 2.30: Waiting for the Big Release

Datamation: "GNOME 2.30 was originally intended to coincide with GNOME 3.0 -- a massive cleanup and rethinking of the popular desktop. However, GNOME 3.0 is delayed for at least another release, which leaves GNOME 2.30 as most likely the last version in a series stretching back almost a decade."
