  • WIFI looses connection with AR9285 - have to disconnect / connect to regain internet?

    I have a G73JW laptop using Ubuntu 12.04. It has an Atheros AR9285 card. While wifi seems to work fine most of the time, about every hour or two it will loose the connection to the internet. The connection will appear to be connected still to the wireless router, but internet access is gone. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the access point solves the problem, as does disabling and reenabling the adapter via the hardware keyboard shortcut. How might this be solved so the connection is stable and doesn't drop?   • Windows 7 Intermittent Connection Issues (Continuously "identifying")

    I have an issue solely with my desktop windows 7 machine on my network (the network has multiple different devices, on the same and different operating systems) and the issue is that irregularly, although sometimes frequently, I briefly get disconnected from the internet (briefly is for around 5-10 seconds). However, I never loose the bars on the wifi thing, eg I don't get the yellow triangle, but it goes to the identifying stage and then reconnects. The reason I noticed the problem was when I was streaming music it would stop and I would refresh the page and it would start working again ( turned out it was because it took that amount of time to get connected again). So my question is, what would cause the intermittent issues and start the "identifying" process again. I don't think its my router, because no one else is having problems, so the other option is that its a problem specifically with my machine. I'm connecting to a Netgear DG834GT router, and I'm using a Edimax Wireless-N150 USB Adapter. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Browser keeps being really rude to me today

    Hi All I've had this problem only once before, years ago. I bought a new computer the other day and last night I visited a website which Google Chrome suspected was an insecure site. So I proceeded to view the page anyway (Stupid, I know... But I was curious), and all of a sudden the window closed and ever since, every few minutes either Google chrome or Internet Explorer keeps popping up with random websites, most of which are porn-related sites. I have downloaded ZoneAlarm, IOBit 360, Eset Smart Security and none of them reported any problems. I still have the rube browser problem. Can somebody please suggest any software/ways to fix this? (Other than to reformat please :)) Thank you :)

I currently have some CSS to disable user-select: -webkit-user-select: none; -khtml-user-select: none; -moz-user-select: none; -o-user-select: none; user-select: none; However, this does NOT cover Internet Explorer; thus, I need to implement some JavaScript: <body onselectstart="return false;"> Through CSS and JavaScript, I can make all content unselectable across all popular browsers. BUT, this code also makes areas unselectable, which is a major case of poor usability. I use CSS to make input areas selectable: -webkit-user-select: text; -khtml-user-select: text; -moz-user-select: text; -o-user-select: text; user-select: text; .. and as you might have expected, this does not cover Internet Explorer, since I used JavaScript to disable all content from being selectable. What can I do to make all content unselectable except for input areas?

    Does the label tag work with radio buttons? If so, how do you use it? I have a form that displays like this: First Name: (text field) Hair Color: (color drop-down) Description: (text area) Salutation: (radio buttons for Mr., Mrs., Miss) I'd like to use the label tag for each label in the left column to define its connection to the appropriate control in the right column. But If I use a radio button, the spec seems to indicate that suddenly the actual "Salutation" label for the form control no longer belongs in the label tag, but rather the options "Mr., Mrs., etc." go in the label tag. I've always been a fan of accessibility and the semantic web, but this design doesn't make sense to me. The label tag explicitly declares labels. The option tag selection options. How do you declare a label on the actual label for a set of radio buttons?     I am using Windows 7, and IE8. Every time I have GMail open in IE8, and I resume from sleep, I get the question about working offline - even if at that momoent the wireless connection is available. This is particularly sad, because all browsing is stopped until I dismiss that dialog, that may be hidden below other windows. As I am not using offline browsing at all, is it possible to disable the functionality altogether, so that I no longer get the question? A bit like in Firefox, where I simply get the error message with page unavailable. I have googled a bit, but no luck so far. Even a direct modification of the registry would be fine, for me.

    We have a ASDL modem connected to a Cisco PIX 515 to a switch. We have managed to get the PIX setup with ethernet1 (inside) with our IP range 192.168.5.1-192.168.5.254 and the internal network is working fine. We are having difficulty getting a connection from the PIX through the router on ethernet0 (outside). We have managed to ping external networks by setting up IMCP echo/echo-reply but are unable to setup any other protocols in a similar manner. Can any one help with a few lines that could be typed into the console that will allow this connection?

    I'm attempting to setup redirection for a couple of root domains. [NC] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$ RewriteRule ^/?(.*) http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [L,R,NE] </VirtualHost> What this does is redirect the root domain of example.com or example2.com or any host other than www to www.example(2).com The part I'm having a problem with is the RewriteRule itself. the $1 is supposed to match the pattern of the RewriteRule and add it in the substitution. For example: "http://example.com/test.html" should rewrite to "http://www.example.com/test.html" It works in all modern browsers like it's supposed to except for IE8 or IE9 (I didn't test other IE versions). In IE, this works: "http://example.com" to "http://www.example.com" In IE, this does not work: "http://example.com/test.html" to "http://www.example.com/test.html" Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior?     I recently haven't used my Mac Mini for about 5 days (however it was left on). I seem to be able to connect and get great download / upload speeds through my PC, Xbox 360, iPhone and parents' laptop. However, my Mac Mini is very slow. OS X's Mail.app is downloading mail at 0.4kbps and then dropping to 0. Skype file transfers are doing the same. Browsing the net is a terrible experience. It is taking 30 seconds or more to download basic pages. All of my devices connect wirelessly to a Netgear router / modem. I have tried giving the Mac Mini a manual IP, and renew DHCP lease, as well as flush DNS in Terminal. I have also rebooted the router / modem twice, and the Mac Mini twice. Do you know what could be causing this? Thanks

    I work a lot from my home office and being in general a tad paranoid I have cable and DSL pipes coming into my house. I have used an Ebay bought Sonicwall Tz170 with the enhanced OS for a good while. I believe it does failover and has a feature for doing round robin on which connection is used. I get the impression from using it that I might not be getting the most out of this setup. Is it possible/likely that my router could be a cause of the slowdown? Are there more appropriate choices?

  • Internet Connection Sharing on OSX causes delayed web requests

    I have an iMac connected to my router via WiFi, and a PC connected by ethernet to the iMac. The iMac is sharing its connection. I've never had a problem with this in the past (pre Lion anyway) but now all web page requests take an eon to resolve on the iMac (they are instant on the PC). It suggests to me the iMac is attempting to resolve it through the PC first every time? I've tried reordering the connections in the network settings but that made no difference.

    hi, every half hour or so, for 1-2 minutes my browser will stop navigating to sites, "waiting for ... to respond.." within 2 minutes i will be able to connect to sites and browse like normal again. weird thing is, while i cannot connect to sites, i get ping replies from any .com i type in. this happens on my home wireless network, using FF and IE on a win7 desktop AND FF on an ubuntu laptop the network is wpa2 secured, these are the only connections.

    Hello Few days ago I opened my computer as I always do after school, and got pretty amazed about my 1.27kb/s download-speed. It has continued for few days already. We have a wireless network, which is used by 3 computers. Normally I've gotten 200kb/s (I think we have a 2mb-connection) but now it just suddenly slowed down. My friends have the same service-provider, but no problem. So, is there any kind of program, which would show me all the programs using connection and how much.     I periodically lose internet and router connection at home. When this happens, others are using the router just fine. I am connecting directly through a wired connection to a Belkin router. I can release and renew the IP (and the IP addresses change to 0.0.0.0 and to an IP in my router's range beginning with 192.168.2. as they should) but still can't surf, can't access the router interface. Cycling the router doesn't help, and again, others are able to access the router fine at this time. Only rebooting the computer resolves the issue, and everything is wonderful for a few hours- and then I lose connection again. I have several ideas where to go from here, but I'd like to get some advice first. (Using Windows XP SP3, hardwired connection) Update As stated in the originally, releasing and renewing doesn't solve the issue. However, I have an update. I can ping localhost and my router IP with no problem at all when the issue occurs. However, repairing the network connection does not help. I AM able to get back on by disabling and then re-enabling the network connection in XP. What does that tell us?
