  • Need Help With Finding SEO Company/Individual

    - by three3
I am fairly new to SEO and I have done all of the tactics and operations that I know to do to help my site rank to the number 1 spot on Google. I know that no one can guarantee the number 1 spot on Google or on any other search engine but I cannot even seem to get my website to the first page of Google's search results. My company is looking to hire a company or individual to work on our SEO. Does anyone here know of an SEO company or individual that has had good results in the past with getting a website to the front of Google, and preferably to the number 1 spot on Google? We are willing to pay a large sum of money for our keywords to rank on the front of Google search results. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks John

  • Need advice on design in Ruby On Rails

    - by Elad
For personal educational purposes I am making a site for a conference. One of the object that exist in a conference is a session, which has different states and in each state it has slightly different attributes: When submitted it has a speaker (User in the system), Title and abstract. When under review it has reviews and comments (in addition to the basic data) When accepted it has a defined time-slot but no reviewers anymore. I feel that it is not the best thing to add a "status" attributes and start adding many if statements... So I thought it would be better to have different classes for each state each with it's own validations and behaviors. What do you think about this design? Do you have a better idea? *I must add this out of frustration: I had several edits of the question, including one major change but no one actually gave any hint or clue on which direction should i take or where is a better place to ask this... Hardly helpful.

  • 7 Reasons for Abandonment in eCommerce and the need for Contextual Support by JP Saunders

    - by Tuula Fai
Shopper confidence, or more accurately the lack thereof, is the bane of the online retailer. There are a number of questions that influence whether a shopper completes a transaction, and all of those attributes revolve around knowledge. What products are available? What products are on offer? What would be the cost of the transaction? What are my options for delivery? In general, most online businesses do a good job of answering basic questions around the products as the shopper engages in the online journey, navigating the product catalog and working through the checkout process. The needs that are harder to address for the shopper are those that are less concerned with product specifics and more concerned with deciding whether the transaction met their needs and delivered value. A recent study by the Baymard Institute [1] finds that more than 60% of ecommerce site visitors will abandon their shopping cart. The study also identifies seven reasons for abandonment out of the commerce process [2]. Most of those reasons come down to poor usability within the commerce experience. Distractions. External distractions within the shopper’s external environment (TV, Children, Pets, etc.) or distractions on the eCommerce page can drive shopper abandonment. Ideally, the selection and check-out process should be straightforward. One common distraction is to drive the shopper away from the task at hand through pop-ups or re-directs. The shopper engaging with support information in the checkout process should not be directed away from the page to consume support. Though confidence may improve, the distraction also means abandonment may increase. Poor Usability. When the experience gets more complicated, buyer’s remorse can set in. While knowledge drives confidence, a lack of understanding erodes it. Therefore it is important that the commerce process is streamlined. In some cases, the number of clicks to complete a purchase is lengthy and unavoidable. In these situations, it is vital to ensure that the complexity of your experience can be explained with contextual support to avoid abandonment. If you can illustrate the solution to a complex action while the user is engaged in that action and address customer frustrations with your checkout process before they arise, you can decrease abandonment. Fraud. The perception of potential fraud can be enough to deter a buyer. Does your site look credible? Can shoppers trust your brand? Providing answers on the security of your experience and the levels of protection applied to profile information may play as big a role in ensuring the sale, as does the support you provide on the product offerings and purchasing process. Does it fit? If it is a clothing item or oversized furniture item, another common form of abandonment is for the shopper to question whether the item can be worn by the intended user. Providing information on the sizing applied to clothing, physical dimensions, and limitations on delivery/returns of oversized items will also assist the sale. A photo alone of the item will help, as it answers some of those questions, but won’t assuage all customer concerns about sizing and fit. Sometimes the customer doesn’t want to buy. Prospective buyers might be browsing through your catalog to kill time, or just might not have the money to purchase the item! You are unlikely to provide any information in contextual support to increase the likelihood to buy if the shopper already has no intentions of doing so. The customer will still likely abandon. Ensuring that any questions are proactively answered as they browse through your site can only increase their likelihood to return and buy at a future date. Can’t Buy. Errors or complexity at checkout can be another major cause of abandonment. Good contextual support is unlikely to help with severe errors caused by technical issues on your site, but it will have a big impact on customers struggling with complexity in the checkout process and needing a question answered prior to completing the sale. Embedded support within the checkout process to patiently explain how to complete a task will help increase conversion rates. Additional Costs. Tax, shipping and other costs or duties can dramatically increase the cost of the purchase and when unexpected, can increase abandonment, particularly if they can’t be adequately explained. Again, a lack of knowledge erodes confidence in the purchase, and cost concerns in particular, erode the perception of your brand’s trustworthiness. Again, providing information on what costs are additive and why they are being levied can decrease the likelihood that the customer will abandon out of the experience. Knowledge drives confidence and confidence drives conversion. If you’d like to understand best practices in providing contextual customer support in eCommerce to provide your shoppers with confidence, download the Oracle Cloud Service and Oracle Commerce - Contextual Support in Commerce White Paper. This white paper discusses the process of adding customer support, including a suggested process for finding where knowledge has the most influence on your shoppers and practical step-by-step illustrations on how contextual self-service can be added to your online commerce experience. • Programming Windows 8 Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - All you need in one title

It took me a while to work through the 800+ pages of this title. And yes, I really mean working not reading... Since the release of Windows 8 it should be obvious to any Windows software developer that there are new ways to develop, deploy and market applications for a broader audience. Interestingly, Microsoft started to narrow the technological gap between the various platforms - desktop, web, smartphone and XBox - and development of modern apps with HTML, CSS and JavaScript couldn't be easier. Kraig covers all facets of modern Windows 8 apps from the basic building blocks and project templates in Visual Studio 2012 over to the thoughtful use of specific APIs to finally proper deployment in the App Store and potential monetization. The organisation of the book is lied out like step by step instructions or a tutorial. Kraig literally takes the reader by the hand and explains in detail in his examples about the reasons, the pros, and the cons of a certain way of implementation. Thanks to cross-references to other chapters he leaves the choice to the reader to dig deeper right now or to catch up at some time later. Personally, I have to admit that I really enjoyed the relaxed writing style. App development is not dust-dry rocket science and it should be joyful to learn about new technologies. And thanks to the richness of the various chapters and samples you could easily adapt and transfer the knowledge gained in this title to other platforms like Windows Phone 8. And last but not least: The ebook is freely available at Amazon, Microsoft Press and O'Reilly. Don't think about it, just get the book. Now. Update: I already mentioned this title in other blog entries which are related to Microsoft certification. Feel free to read on and to discover more online resources: Learning content for MCSDs: Web Applications and Windows Store Apps using HTML5 More content for MCSDs: Web Applications and Windows Store Apps using HTML5 O'Reilly offers free webcasts on their site, too. And in case that you would like to know more about Kraig's book and his experience with various development teams, please checkout this one: Zero to App in Two Weeks: Programming Windows 8 Apps in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The recording should be available soon.

  • Need help understanding a recursion example in Python

    - by Ali Mustafa
Python is my first programming language, and I'm learning it from "How to Think Like a Computer Scientist". In Chapter 5 the author gives the following example on recursion: def factorial(n): if n == 0: return 1 else: recurse = factorial(n-1) result = n * recurse return result I understand that if n = 3, then the function will execute the second branch. But what I don't understand is what happens when the function enters the second branch. Can someone explain it to me?

  • need explanation on amortization in algorithm

    - by Pradeep
I am a learning algorithm analysis and came across a analysis tool for understanding the running time of an algorithm with widely varying performance which is called as amortization. The autor quotes " An array with upper bound of n elements, with a fixed bound N, on it size. Operation clear takes O(n) time, since we should dereference all the elements in the array in order to really empty it. " The above statement is clear and valid. Now consider the next content: "Now consider a series of n operations on an initially empty array. if we take the worst case viewpoint, the running time is O(n^2), since the worst case of a sigle clear operation in the series is O(n) and there may be as many as O(n) clear operations in the series." From the above statement how is the time complexity O(n^2)? I did not understand the logic behind it. if 'n' operations are performed how is it O(n ^2)? Please explain what the autor is trying to convey..

  • Need to combine a color, mask, and sprite layer in a shader

    - by Donutz
My task: to display a sprite using different team colors. I have a sprte graphic, part of which has to be displayed as a team color. The color isn't 'flat', i.e. it shades from brighter to darker. I can't "pre-build" the graphics because there are just too many, so I have to generate them at runtime. I've decided to use a shader, and supply it with a texture consisting of the team color, a texture consisting of a mask (black=no color, white=full color, gray=progressively dimmed color), and the sprite grapic, with the areas where the team color shows being transparent. So here's my shader code: // Effect attempts to merge a color layer, a mask layer, and a sprite layer // to produce a complete sprite sampler UnitSampler : register(s0); // the unit sampler MaskSampler : register(s1); // the mask sampler ColorSampler : register(s2); // the color float4 main(float4 color : COLOR0, float2 texCoord : TEXCOORD0) : COLOR0 { float4 tex1 = tex2D(ColorSampler, texCoord); // get the color float4 tex2 = tex2D(MaskSampler, texCoord); // get the mask float4 tex3 = tex2D(UnitSampler,texCoord); // get the unit float4 tex4 = tex1 * tex2.r * tex3; // color * mask * unit return tex4; } My problem is the calculations involving tex1 through tex4. I don't really understand how the manipulations work, so I'm just thrashing around, producing lots of different incorrect effects. So given tex1 through tex3, what calcs do I do in order to take the color (tex1), mask it (tex2), and apply the result to the unit if it's not zero? And would I be better off to make the mask just on/off (white/black) and put the color shading in the unit graphic?

  • Need help understanding XNA 4.0 BoundingBox vs BoundingSphere Intersection

    - by nerdherd
I am new to both game programming and XNA, so I apologize if I'm missing a simple concept or something. I have created a simple 3D game with a player and a crate and I'm working on getting my collision detection working properly. Right now I am using a BoundingSphere for my player, and a BoundingBox for the crate. For some reason, XNA only detects a collision when my player's sphere touches the front face of the crate. I'm rendering all the BoundingSpheres and BoundingBoxes as wire frames so I can see what's going on, and everything visually appears to be correct, but I can't figure out this behavior. I have tried these checks: playerSphere.Intersects(crate.getBoundingBox()) playerSphere.Contains(crate.getBoundingBox(), ContainmentType.Intersects) playerSphere.Contains(crate.getBoundingBox()) != ContainmentType.Disjoint But they all seem to produce the same behavior (in other words, they are only true when I hit the front face of the crate). The interesting thing is that when I use a BoundingSphere for my crate the collision is detected as I would expect, but of course this makes the edges less accurate. Any thoughts or ideas? Have I missed something about how BoundingSpheres and BoundingBoxes compute their intersections? I'd be happy to post more code or screenshots to clarify if needed. Thanks!

  • Need help with testdisk output

    - by dan
I had (note the past tense) an ubuntu 12.04 system with separate partitions for the base and /home directories. It started acting wonky, so I decided to do a reinstall with 12.10, intending just to do a reinstall to the base partition. After several seconds, I realize that the installer was repartitioning the drive and reinstalling, so I pulled the power cord. I'm now trying to recover as much as I can with testdisk, but it seems that testdisk is finding 100 unique partitions when I run it - they mostly tend to be HFS+ or solaris /home (which I think is just an ext4; I've never had solaris on the machine). I've pasted an abbreviated version of the testdisk output below (first ~100 lines, and then ~100 lines from the middle of the output). Is there a way to combine or recreate the partitions and then data recovery, or some other way maximize what I can recover (ideally as much of the file system as possible)? I really only care about what was in the /home directory - I'd rather not use photorec since I don't have another 2 TB HD lying around to recover to. • Does ssh key need to be named id_rsa?

    - by dustyprogrammer
I have come across this problem a couple of times when creating build servers with keyed authentication. I was wondering if anyone else has experience this. I have a couple of keys for my current user that may connect to different machines. Let say machine1 and machine2. I have pasted my public key into their respective authorized_keys file. The first one I have named the first key id_rsa and the second key bender. When I try to connect to bender I get the following output with my verbose ssh connection debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /home/bozo/.ssh/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /home/bozo/.ssh/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /home/bozo/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Permission denied (publickey). It only offers the id_rsa key, as you can see above. Is this correct? If so why? How do I get it to offer more keys? I know it is a problem I see intermittently, because I at home I have multiple keys without much trouble. I would also appreciate a overview on how the pub and private keys interact with the client and server. I thought I had a pretty decent idea, but apparently I am missing something. Please and thank you.

  • Hiring a swing developer - Need some tough assignments

    - by Jay
I am trying to hire a java swing developer, who would most likely work on a java 1.4 based swing app. I have finalized 2-3 people and I would like to give them a one week assignment on Swing. It has to be a really tough one - something that they can't just copy from the internet and something that tests their in-depth knowledge on Swing. I can think of things like split screen windows, and custom UI controls that would involve custom paining. If you were to prepare such an assignment, what would you do? Please share your thoughts/experiences.

  • Need a PCIe desktop graphics card for dual-monitor

    - by Graham
I have a mid-2008 workstation with two HD monitors supporting HDMI and DVI inputs. Since Ubuntu 11.10, I have experienced no end of trouble with my NVidia Quadro NVS 290 in TwinView dual-monitor output. Others have similar desktop TwinView woes. I want a new graphics card. Previously I asked for a graphics card recommendation and response was Nvidia Geforce GTS 450... but really I'm looking for someone who has actually got a working dual-monitor desktop to tell me what card they use so I can get something that is known to work. So please, people who have no-issues with their 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 Unity 3D desktop spread across two HD-resolution external monitors (either DVI or HDMI connector), and who also run Google Chrome (which throws a spanner due to its own GPU compositing)... please let me know what graphics card you have so I can buy one. Gathering Options These seem to be the Nvidia cards featuring dual DVI. But they all seem to be gaming cards - what has dual-DVI, good support, but is not a massive gaming card? Nvidia GTS 450 (previously recommended) - 2x DVI Nvidia GTX 550 Ti (used by System76) - 2x DVI Nvidia GT 430 (used by System76) - 1xDVI, 1xHDMI Nvidia GT 640 (found on NVidia site) - 1xDVI, 1xHDMI (also GT 620, GT 630) Has anyone had a good desktop dual-monitor Unity 3D experience with ATI cards?

  • Need Help Changing Owner of External HArd Drive

    - by Thomas Ballew
My understanding of code is about zero. I can open a terminal window, and type commands that are given to me, but that's about it. If someone can help me with this question, and explain at a level I'm likely to understand, thanks. If not, thanks anyway. I have an external hard drive with two partitions. I bought this drive when my operating system was Apple, 10.5 or so, and it was formatted as HFS+ with that system. Now, connecting the HD to my Linux system, I can read files, but I have about 1.5 TB of space that I can't use, because I am not the owner of the file, so can't write to the HD. Short of reformatting the HD, is there a way for me to set the permissions for the HD so I can write to it? Again, thank you.

  • Need Help in optimizing a loop in C [migrated]

    - by WedaPashi
    I am trying to draw a Checkerboard pattern on a lcd using a GUI library called emWin. I have actually managed to draw it using the following code. But having these many loops in the program body for a single task, that too in the internal flash of the Microcontroller is not a good idea. Those who have not worked with emWin, I will try and explain a few things before we go for actual logic. GUI_REST is a structure which id define source files of emWin and I am blind to it. Rect, REct2,Rec3.. and so on till Rect10 are objects. Elements of the Rect array are {x0,y0,x1,y1}, where x0,y0 are starting locations of rectangle in X-Y plane and x1, y1 are end locations of Rectangle in x-Y plane. So, Rect={0,0,79,79} is a rectangle starts at top left of the LCD and is upto (79,79), so its a square basically. The function GUI_setBkColor(int color); sets the color of the background. The function GUI_setColor(int color); sets the color of the foreground. GUI_WHITE and DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR are two color values, #defineed GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect); will draw the Rectangle. The code below works fine but I want to make it smarter. GUI_RECT Rect = {0, 0, 79, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect2 = {80, 0, 159, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect3 = {160, 0, 239, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect4 = {240, 0, 319, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect5 = {320, 0, 399, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect6 = {400, 0, 479, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect7 = {480, 0, 559, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect8 = {560, 0, 639, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect9 = {640, 0, 719, 79}; GUI_RECT Rect10 = {720, 0, 799, 79}; WM_SelectWindow(Win_DM_Main); GUI_SetBkColor(GUI_BLACK); GUI_Clear(); for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect); Rect.y0 += 80; Rect.y1 += 80; } /* for(j=0,j<11;j++) { for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect); Rect.y0 += 80; Rect.y1 += 80; } Rect.x0 += 80; Rect.x1 += 80; } */ for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); else GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect2); Rect2.y0 += 80; Rect2.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect3); Rect3.y0 += 80; Rect3.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); else GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect4); Rect4.y0 += 80; Rect4.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect5); Rect5.y0 += 80; Rect5.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); else GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect6); Rect6.y0 += 80; Rect6.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect7); Rect7.y0 += 80; Rect7.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); else GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect8); Rect8.y0 += 80; Rect8.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); else GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect9); Rect9.y0 += 80; Rect9.y1 += 80; } for(i = 0; i < 6; i++) { if(i%2 == 0) GUI_SetColor(DM_CHECKERBOARD_COLOR); else GUI_SetColor(GUI_WHITE); GUI_FillRectEx(&Rect10); Rect10.y0 += 80; Rect10.y1 += 80; }

  • Do we need use case levels or not?

    - by Gabriel Šcerbák
I guess no one would argue for decomposing use cases, that is just wrong. However sometimes it is necessary to specify use cases, which are on lower, more technical level, like for example authetication and authorization, which give the actor value, but are further from his business needs. Cockburn argues for levels when needed and explains how to move use cases from/to different levels and how to determine the right level. On the other hand, e.g. Bittner argues against use case levels, although he uses subflows and at the end of his book mentions, that at least two levels areneeded most of the time. My questionis, do you find use case levels necessary, helpful or unwanted? What are the reasons? Am I misssing some important arguments?

  • The need for user-defined index types

    - by Greg Low
Since the removal of the 8KB limit on serialization, the ability to define new data types using SQL CLR integration is now almost at a usable level, apart from one key omission: indexes. We have no ability to create our own types of index to support our data types. As a good example of this, consider that when Microsoft introduced the geometry and geography (spatial) data types, they did so as system CLR data types but also needed to introduce a spatial index as a new type of index. Those of us that...(read more)

  • Need ProFTPd to follow symbolic link

    - by FMaz008
I have 2 folder: /var/www/project1/ /var/www/repository/module/ and I have this symbolic link: /var/www/project1/module/News = /var/www/repository/module/News I know the target is outside the ftp root folder. But I want to make proFTPd to be able to display&follow that symbolic link. The security is NOT a matter, we use that FTP on the local network for development purpose only. Ps.: I also use GADMIN-PROFTPD, and I installed everything by default, using apt-get install.

[2014-06-11 20:45:39] Verification complete [2014-06-11 20:45:42] Shutdown I tried installing the following i386 packages: libpango-1.0-0:i386, libpangoft2-1.0-0:i386, and libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:i386, and symlinking the .so files (from usr/lib/i386whatever../) into the ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/ folder, but wasn't able to find the right match for the gtk-x11 lib, and ultimately would up with a different, but still non-working situation. So I've back-tracked to this point, and have removed those i386 packages for now. It's worth noting thatSteam runs if I don't use STEAM_RUNTIME=0. Also, Steam seemed to "recognize" the i386 version of the libpango & libpangoft2 libs after I symlinked them into place, during the course of my troubleshooting; when I would rerun STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam, it wouldn't list those two items as missing anymore. Instead though, I had a bunch of gtk-related issues, something about overlay-scrollbar not available, as well as warnings that it can't find the murrine engine... a whole bunch of stuff that sounded like I'd gone too far down the wrong path. Anyhow, any help sorting this out would be appreciated, and thanks!

  • Need an idea for an iOS project for a trainee to prove his skills

    - by Umair Khan Jadoon
I am teaching iOS development to a trainee who has recently joined our startup. He already has strong background and experience in .net. At first phase, he will learn the following things: Basics of Objective C. Views and View Controllers(Navigation, Table, Tabs), gester recognizers, table views, segues etc. Protocols, gesters, delegates. Blocks and multithreading. Now, I have to give him some kind of homework assignment or project to get his skills to action and to know what he has learnt. Any ideas?
