• No internet access since 12.04

  I have updated yesterday to Ubuntu 12.04 but can not access the Internet. It is an old PC without wireless. But the older Ubuntu I had installed up until now (11.??) worked perfectly. I'm not that familiar with Ubuntu, and I have been trying Google for some time know, but I cannot find the answer. I noticed that running nm-tool resulted in some things that don't sound right: Type: wired Driver: ne2k-pci state: unavailable Default: no Carrier: off Does anyone have a way to fix the connection?

• Wifi networks will not show up!

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on an old '08 macbook. I've gone to system settingsSoftware & UpdatesAdditional Drivers and enabled the wireless driver. But when I click the wifi icon on the top toolbar no networks show up. When running lshw it clearly shows my wireless card under Network controller and it says the driver is installed. However, nm-tool only shows ethernet. And rfkill only shows bluetooth. What can I do?

• 12.04 - why does the network icon dissapear every time my machine is turned off

  After spending an hour or two working out how to find the network Icon, I find that when I reboot the machine, I have to go through the whole procedure again. 1. The network menu is not there - so first I have to find the terminal. This has no particular location that I can find but usually I have to type terminal in the dash. 2. Then I have to type nm-applet in terminal 3. The network manager icon then appears, but only works if the terminal window remains open. Shut down the terminal window and the network disappears. This is a pain - plus I have to type my password in every time, which is another waste of time, thought this has always been a problem. So can anyone tell me how to make the web automatically connect at startup without any intervention from me.

  I use mobile broadband connection (Reliance Netconnect+ USB) for internet. I can connect to this network from Network Manager easily. There is a 3rd party software which is given by the service provider. I can also connect to the internet by using this software (Software from ZTE). But when i am using this software, i cannot upload files to Ubuntu One, Cannot install packages from Software Center, etc except i can load web pages from FireFox. But when using the connection from NM, i can do all the stuffs. But, there are so many options available in this 3rd party software. So, can i route my internet connection from this software to my Network Manager? There are some options available in the settings as;- Dns, alternate dns, static IP, CHAP, PAP. Can anyone help me?? I use 12.04.

  I recently updated to 12.04 on my sony vaio VGN-N110G. I've had ubuntu on this laptop since 10.04 and haven't had any real problems. so i restarted my computer today and none of the unity desktop background showed up only the desktop with the files on it so i brought up the terminal and entered in unity -replace and restarted it and it came back up fine except that i noticed that my panel only had mail, volume, date/time, and power icons no wireless or bluetooth, i tried a couple of approaches to try and get it working again i tried nm-applet --sm-disable and it brought up a warning message, i'm not very skilled in code even though i've had ubuntu for four years but in the past versions it wasn't too big a problem

  I've been having numerous problems with connectivity through WiFi. It had been working for a few days and now it doesn't. On top of that around 40% of every time I turn on the laptop it shows "System running in low-graphics" error and I'm unable to view the desktop (sometimes not even able to access terminal), therefore having to manually power-down until it finally works.   Additional Drivers still lists the driver. Reports it as being activated but not in use. Prior to running updates, wireless was working fine. Using Synaptic Package Manager, marked for reinstallation, reinstalled, rebooted. Back to the way things were. Little new to this side of the world. ;)

• WiFi, No ping, other works fine

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for my mom, this runs OK. However recently, I switched back and forth between encryptions on our WiFi Router from WPA-PSK to WEP and back again to WPA-PSK, same password. Now this old laptop won't even ping the gateway on the router, although the nm-applet shows connected. I tried re-adding the network and putting in the BSSID. I did this over again sometimes just to verify. I tried with my 3G Tethering on my phone, it works fine, can go online too. My other Linux laptop can go on the same wifi as well as my phone. And this laptop used to been online on the same network, same password, same encryption (WPA-PSK) What can be wrong ? Does it need a serious kick in the butt or removing some cached authorisation somewhere?

• Getting trayer to work with dual screen setup

  I'm using XMonad as my window manager, and want to use trayer as a icon panel for things like nm-applet. The problem was that the panel wouldn't appear on the top of the screen. If I set it to the bottom it just appeared. After a lot of trying, I found out it is because my xorg.conf is setup for dualscreens, and probably the trayer panel is spawned outside my view (I currently have only a single screen, but I switch a lot). After manualy tweaking the xorg.conf file to allow for just one screen, the panel appears on the right spot. • Wireless will not work in fresh ubuntu 12.04 lts installation

  I did a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install on my Sony Vaio laptop, which worked perfectly with 10.04. Now my wireless won't work. I have read just about every Q&A on the subject and I have tried different solutions, including the official troubleshooting guides. My laptop is equipped with a Intel 5100 wireless device. Ubuntu recognizes the device and it's status is given as connected in nm-tool. I can ping the gateway, my own IP number and localhost. Rfkill shows no soft or hard blocks. Any ideas? I am just a few hours shy of reinstalling good old 10.04! Taake

  I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. When I plug in the ethernet cable the internet works fine, but I can't see any wireless network in the networking manager. The wifi switch is definitely on on my laptop! It's a Dell XPS M1330. I've verified that the "FTP Publishing Service" is installed in the server manager, and I can see it running in the services applet and via netstat -a. Suggestions?

  Do anyone know if there is out there any API/library to access NNM database from perl or python? We have a NNM 7.53 which give us access to its data with its java based applet through http. And of course through the 'ovw' GUI interface. I've tried to use Mechanize and selenium2(webdriver) to automatize some checks. I've tried lm-sensors: sensors-detect didn't find any sensors; following its hint ("This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is handled by ACPI rather than the OS.") I tried acpi -V but got nothing thermal. The Gnome panel applet "Hardware Sensors Monitor" reports on GPU temperature but nothing else. What should I be trying next?

  I got the home and remote office users connect to the Terminal Server on my Windows Server 2003 that I published securely through Juniper SSL VPN client applet, they use normal internet connection to access the link which pop up the Terminal Server Remote Desktop application, so my question is, how can they print out the document from within their terminal server session ? if it is going through the internal office LAN mapping the printer through Remote Desktop connection is the solution but not for this one.   Is there any way to take a video stream from one application, for example VLC Media Player, and present that video stream to other applications as a video input source? For example, could I broadcast a video file from my hard disk to a website that allows video conferencing using a Flash applet?   Java works under Firefox but not under IE. Java applet activated in security settings, activated in add-ons, activated in advanced tab; that's the advice they usually give in forums... I've also deleted my temporary internet files, reinstalled IE8 and it is also set as the default java for IE through the control panel. IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Java version: 1.7.0_03. • H.323 to RTSP gateway?

  Is there such a thing as a H.323 to RTSP gateway? Am I searching for the wrong terms? This site seems to imply that such a thing should already exists, but I cannot find anything at all. My end goal is to connect a Flash applet (via RTMP) on one end to a video conference (which uses H.323) on the other end. I have a RTMP<--RTSP/RTP gateway, so a RTSP<--H.323 gateway would allow this solution to work.
