  • How do I start mysqld with options

    I need to start up mysqld with command line options as from here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/server-options.html#option_mysqld_skip-grant-tables I normally do sudo service mysqld start, but passing the option as sudo service mysqld start --skip-grant-tables does not seem to work. Alternatively I have tried starting as a daemon, sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables & But it seems to terminate too soon: 131101 04:59:57 mysqld_safe Logging to '/var/lib/mysql/vagrant.example.com.err'. 131101 04:59:57 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 131101 05:00:03 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /var/lib/mysql/vagrant.example.com.pid ended My last option seems to specify the option in /etc/my.cnf instead, but is there any way to do it via the command line?

  • Using sudo /etc/init.d/httpd start complains for log file rights

    I created a custom log directory with the root account, and chmoded it to 777 teporarily. ls -la /var/mylogs/log/ total 16 drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4096 Jun 24 06:27 . drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Jun 24 06:25 .. When I try to start the service from a user (lets say "myuser", which is in the sudoers files as myuser ALL=(ALL) ALL), it fails because of the permissions : sudo /etc/init.d/httpd start Starting httpd: (13)Permission denied: httpd: could not open error log file /var/mylogs/log/httpd_error.log. Unable to open logs However, the following is successfull : sudo bash /etc/init.d/http start So I guess these two methods are not equivalent, although to me doing sudo was the same than logging into the root account and issuing the commands. Any clue ? Thank you !

  • Windows audio service fails to automatically start after VirtualBox install

    I'm having a completely nonsensical issue in Windows XP SP3. Basically my "Windows Audio" service no longer starts automatically. Despite being set to "Automatic" I have to manually go in and start it. This issue didn't start until the most recent update of VirtualBox, but I can't find anything on the forums related to this specific issue. I've tried reinstalling the RealTek drivers as well, in the event that that had something to do with it. Any assistance is most appreciated! EDIT 1: It is the host's audio that won't start. The update of Virtualbox was merely the "marker" of when these events started occurring. Given it's the only variable/change I'm assuming a correlation.

    How do I get Ubuntu upstart to not hang on interactive start & stop? I have created many upstart scripts that work fine during init, but often hang when I enter them at the console. If I CTRL+C out, all that happens is that the job changes state. The script is never run. I’m running Ubuntu Lucid on a Xen virtual server with a Linux 2.6.39 kernel.     HI, I have determine that my 2nd server which fail to start because of this entry in conf. Once I remove this entry, the server start up as normal. Alias /Reports/ "//abc/filedir/a/" <Directory "//abc/filedir/a/"> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I have a primary apache server which is also pointing to the folder with the same setting. I will like to know why the 2nd server failed to start, is it because the server one has locked the folder. //abc is my NAS server running on window 2003. Thanks

  • Good ways to dynamically generate the start image of an iPhone/iPad app

    I'm self-learning iPhone development and I see that one of the aspects of an iPhone/iPad app is the start image that gets displayed when your app is run. I'd like my start image to display some basic info about the user when the app is launched, but that info has to first be collected by the user when the app is first run. That tells me that I either need to dynamically generate the start image after the user enters their information or I need to place a label of some sort on top of my static start image in order to accomplish this. The first time the app launched and before the user enters their info, the start image can be anything or nothing at all, I'm not concerned about this. So, my two questions are this... Can you place controls, like a label, on top of the start image when your app is launched? If not, what's a good approach to dynamically generating the start image after the app is launched for the first time and the user info is collected? Thanks so much in advance for your help! I'm going to begin researching this question right now.

    Hello; I am trying to create an app that will perform actions on specific times (much like the Windows Task Scheduler). I am currently using Process.Start() to lunch the file (or exe) required by the task. I am initiating a process by calling a file (an .mp3) and the process starts WMP (since it is the default application), so far so good. Now I wan't to kill that process. I know that it is normal behavior for the Process.Start(string, string) to return nothing (null in C#) in this case. So I am asking how can i close WMP when I called it through Process.Start(string, string)?? Edit: Please note that I am not opening WMP directly with Process.Start() and this is the line with which I run the process: VB: Me._procs.Add(Process.Start(Me._procInfo)) C#: this._procs.Add(Process.Start(this._procInfo)) _procInfo is a ProcessStartInfo instance. _procInfo.FileName is "C:\route\myFile.mp3". That is why WMP opens. In any case, all of the Start() methods, except for the instance-one which returns a boolean, return nothing (null in C#), because WMP is not the process that was directly created (please note that WMP is run and the song does play).

So I want to be able to check if Growl is running, and then start it if it isn't.     All of a sudden my Windows service application after installation does not start. (Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do.) The service uses a custom user. If I change the logon setting to use the local system account, the service starts fine. Then when I go back and change the login setting to use this custom account (local user - custom user under user group), the service will start. Why doesn't it work in the first place?

However, if I put only number without M or G unit, it will start and run. By default, if put only number, what unit is it means? It I put 3000 does it means 3000 MB?

    I'm not sure if this is the best approach to this, It's my first time doing all of this (including writing shell scripts). OS: Centos My problem: I want to start multiple shell scripts at boot. One of the shell scripts is to start my own services and 3 others are for third party services. The shell script to start my own services will be looking for jar files. I currently have two services (will change), written in Java. When I run init.sh nohup.out contains Starting the thirdparty daemon... thirdparty started... .... but nothing from myservices.sh and my Java services aren't running I'm not sure where to start debugging or what could be going wrong. Edit Found some issues and got it to work, used -x instead of -n to check if the string is none zero, needed the sub string check to also be if [[ $s = $SUBSTRING ]] ; then and this last one was just stupid, missing java -jar in front of $s Still unsure of how to get init.sh to run at boot though

Error setting audit daemon pid (Connection refused) [FAILED] The only information I can find online is that this may be due to SELinux, however SELinux is giving me problems of it's own. No matter what I do it appears to be disabled (I want to enable it). The configuration is set to enforced and the server has been rebooted many a time however sestatus still returns SELinux status: disabled. Can anyone shine some light on this problem? EDIT: I don't know if it is related but I noticed the following message appearing in my /var/log/messages Jun 10 16:25:22 s1 iscsid: iSCSI logger with pid=2056 started! Jun 10 16:25:22 s1 iscsid: Missing or Invalid version from /sys/module/scsi_transport_iscsi/version.     I've install apache2 on an Unbuntu 12.04 machine, but I can't get the server to start at boot time. Although I've tried many things : reinstall apache2 run update-rc.d apache2 enable But each time the apache2 is not start after boot time : I get nothing with a pgrep apache2 or a ps -e | grep apache2 UPDATE I've also tried the logging tweak suggested in another related post, but no entries at all can be found in /var/log/syslog What could I do to make it work ?   • Excel 'recently used list' not showing on start menu, but working within excel

    In windows 7 when you pin Excel 2007 to the start menu, it usually has a small arrow which shows your recently opened documents. Mine only shows permanently pinned documents. It used to work until I tried Office 2010 and then uninstalled it. If I open Excel and click on the file menu, I can see all the recently opened documents so they are being recorded somewhere... Any idea on how to restore it so I can view them on the start menu - Which I always used before?
