  • Executing Windows administrative shell commands on Windows using Python

    - by at0m
I have a batch script using Windows shell commands to perform several administrative actions. The script is running great on Windows 7 but when i try launching it from Python 2.6 nothing happens: import os a = os.popen("somebatchfile.bat") I assume that this is because the bat file uses several commands that require an administrative privileges but i don't want to prompt to a password using runas.exe or embedding the password within the code. Is there any way to make UAC prompt for user approval or something?

  • Rotate PDF document

    - by Rogier
We have created thousands of PDF files that are printed as a label on a special label printer. Printing these labels is ok, but some of the label paper are quarter turned and the PDF are printed incorrectly. There is a possibility to rotate the page before printing. But is it possible to rotate a PDF file and save it again as a PDF file? And there are thousands of PDF files, is it also possible to do this is a batch program?

  • shortcut for Eventvwr > Connect to another computer

    - by Peter
I was wondering if you can write the following action in a batch command? eventvwr (open the event viewer) Menu Action Connect to another computer Type in the name of the computer. Connect. This would make my life just a few minutes/day more efficient ;-) Update As we've just upgraded to Windows 7 and I needed a new solution, it seems to be possible like this: %windir%\system32\eventvwr.exe targethostname

  • Is it possible to copy a set of files, but automatically skip if file already exists?

    - by awe
I know that the copy command has an option to automatically replace a file if it already exists, but I want to know if it is a way to copy the files only if they not already exist (/Y). I do not know the actual file names in the batch code, as I copy from the source using wildcards in the copy command: copy *.zip c:\destination The reason I want this instead of automatic overwrite is that the files are large, and to skip existing would save a lot of execution time.

  • Delete set of files using find command

    - by Dave Jarvis
Background Delete a set of files, scattered across different directories. Problem The following code does not work (the unescaped | causes issues); for %i in (dir /s/b | find "lock") do echo del %i Question Without writing a batch file, how would you delete all files named "lock" (i.e., found using the find command) within the current directory and all subdirectories (including hidden directories)? Thank you!

  • Trimming video from it's end using FFMpeg or Mencoder

    - by get8p
I have pack of .avi files that needs to be trimmed by 5 last seconds. I'm doing it using batch processing and naturally, they all have different length so I can't set a trim from the beginning. I know FFMpeg has commands -t and -ss as well as Mencoder has -endpos and -ss, but in my case I don't know if I can use them this way. My .bat file will look like this FOR %%i IN (*.avi) DO ( ffmpeg/mencoder -options "%%i" "%%~ni"1.avi ) Thanks in advance.

  • How can I tell which "explorer.exe" process is the main one?

    - by HodofHod
I have a batch file that changes a few registry files, and then restarts explorer.exe so that they take effect. I'm using the command taskkill /f /im explorer.exe and then explorer.exe which of course kills all the explorer.exe processes, including the explorer windows I have open. Obviously, I am using the option to Launch folder windows in a separate process. Is there any way I can determine which instance of explorer.exe is the main one, and just kill that?

  • Need to remove borders from multiple images

I have a few hundred family images and they were all sent to us with borders that I would like to remove. Thankfully the borders are all the same size of 20 pixels and they are all .jpg so this will probably make things easier but im looking for a way to "batch process" all of them quickly so I dont need to open photoshop for each image and do it individually. Command line is preferred, the only big problem is they are mostly different sizes. Here is an example

  • Delete System Files containing string

    - by Fuzz Evans
I am trying to write a batch file that will examine a given directory, read each file for a given string "Example" and then delete any files that contain the string. The files are also System Files so I don't know what the exact extension is or if that matters (maybe you can just omit a file type filter and have it read all files?). Some of the files will be locked from reading as well so it needs to handle access denial errors if that occurs, not sure how batch files handle that.

  • Most efficient way to move a few SQL Server tables to SQLite?

    - by wom
I have a fairly large SQL Server database; I'd like to pull 4 tables out and dump them directly into an sqlite.db for remote querying (via nightly batch). I was about to write a script to step through(most likely on a unix host kicked off via cron); but there should be a simpler method to export the tables directly (SQLite not an option in the included DTS Import/Export wizard) What would the most efficient method of dumping the SQL Server tables to SQLite via batch be?

  • SQL Exception: "Impersonate Session Security Context" cannot be called in this batch because a simul

    - by kasey
When opening a connection to SQL Server 2005 from our web app, we occasionally see this error: "Impersonate Session Security Context" cannot be called in this batch because a simultaneous batch has called it. We use MARS and connection pooling. The exception originates from the following piece of code: protected SqlConnection Open() { SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(); connection.ConnectionString = m_ConnectionString; if (connection != null) { try { connection.Open(); if (m_ExecuteAsUserName != null) { string sql = Format("EXECUTE AS LOGIN = {0};", m_ExecuteAsUserName); ExecuteCommand(connection, sql); } } catch (Exception exception) { connection.Close(); connection = null; } } return connection; } I found an MS Connect article which suggests that the error is caused when a previous command has not yet terminated before the EXECUTE AS LOGIN command is sent. Yet how can this be if the connection has only just been opened? Could this be something to do with connection pooling interacting strangely with MARS? UPDATE: For the short-term we have implemented a workaround by clearing out the connection pool whenever this happens, to get rid of the bad connection, as it otherwise keeps getting handed back to various users. (Not too bad as this only happens a couple of times a day.) But if anyone has any further ideas, we are still looking out for a real solution...

  • Batch processing JDBC

    - by Wai Hein
    I am practicing JDBC batch processing and having errors: error 1: Unsupported feature error 2: Execute cannot be empty or null Property files include: itemsdao.updateBookName = Update Books set bookname = ? where books.id = ? itemsdao.updateAuthorName = Update books set authorname = ? where books.id = ? I know I can execute about DML statements in one update, but I am practicing batch processing in JDBC. Below is my method public void update(Item item) { String query = null; try { connection = DbConnector.getConnection(); property = SqlPropertiesLoader.getProperties("dml.properties"); connection.setAutoCommit(false); if ( property == null ) { Logging.log.debug("dml.properties does not exist. Check property loader or file name is spelled right"); return; } query = property.getProperty("itemsdao.updateBookName"); statement = connection.prepareStatement(query); statement.setString(1, item.getBookName()); statement.setInt(2, item.getId()); statement.addBatch(query); query = property.getProperty("itemsdao.updateAuthorName"); statement = connection.prepareStatement(query); statement.setString(1, item.getAuthorName()); statement.setInt(2, item.getId()); statement.addBatch(query); statement.executeBatch(); connection.commit(); }catch (ClassNotFoundException e) { Logging.log.error("Connection class does not exist", e); } catch (SQLException e) { Logging.log.error("Violating PK constraint",e); } //helper class th finally { DbUtil.close(connection); DbUtil.closePreparedStatement(statement); }

  • Hibernate Relationship Mapping/Speed up batch inserts

    - by manyxcxi
I have 5 MySQL InnoDB tables: Test,InputInvoice,InputLine,OutputInvoice,OutputLine and each is mapped and functioning in Hibernate. I have played with using StatelessSession/Session, and JDBC batch size. I have removed any generator classes to let MySQL handle the id generation- but it is still performing quite slow. Each of those tables is represented in a java class, and mapped in hibernate accordingly. Currently when it comes time to write the data out, I loop through the objects and do a session.save(Object) or session.insert(Object) if I'm using StatelessSession. I also do a flush and clear (when using Session) when my line count reaches the max jdbc batch size (50). Would it be faster if I had these in a 'parent' class that held the objects and did a session.save(master) instead of each one? If I had them in a master/container class, how would I map that in hibernate to reflect the relationship? The container class wouldn't actually be a table of it's own, but a relationship all based on two indexes run_id (int) and line (int). Another direction would be: How do I get Hibernate to do a multi-row insert?

  • PBS batch jobs - the qalter command

    - by Ryan Budney
I've got a giant computation running on a Scientific Linux cluster. At present I have over 600 jobs parked in the queue, waiting for processor time, while a few are running. I'm trying to use the qalter command on some of the idle but scheduled jobs. I'd like to schedule them for a later time, so that other users can jump part of the queue, sort of as an act of politeness. Is this doable? For example, JOBNAME 292399 is currently idle, scheduled to be run whenever a spot in the queue opens up. But if I run qalter -a 10051000 292398 followed by qrerun 292398 I get qrerun: Request invalid for state of job 292398.euler. From the qalter documentation, I thought 10051000 refers to tomorrow (oct 5th, 10am) but perhaps I'm misunderstanding something? If I'm going about this the wrong way, please let me know. The main thing I'm looking for is a command that's easily scriptable, so that I can modify when my queued tasks get run. qalter seems good for those purposes if I can get it working. I'd rather avoid running qdel and re qsubbing the computations, as there's a bookkeeping issue on which tasks to restart (vs which ones not to). I want to avoid that kind of bookkeeping. From googling around I notice some qalter commands have rather different date formats, but the above appears to be correct, as far as I can tell from the man docs. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Batch convert HTML file(s) saved using IE to MHT

    - by ultrasawblade
I have numerous web sites that I've saved over the years. I used Internet Explorer's "Save As..." option to do this. It saves the original page as an .html document, and page requirements in a linked folder with the same name as a document. I want to convert a bunch of these (over 1000) to the single-file .mht format. This can be done through Internet Explorer or Firefox (using UnMHT extension) by loading the original .html document, then re-saving as an .mht document. It is tedious to do that for the number of files I'm talking about, obviously. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a utility, command line or otherwise, that can accomplish this.

  • What is the command to check if a command's results mention OK?

    - by Manuel
Alright, so I was playing around with changing MTU size and wanted to make a batch file to automatically lower it and then raise it later. This is probably simple, but I just can't figure it out. Point is, is there a way to run a command, which would normally echo out "ok" but check to see if it does say ok? And if it doesn't say ok then, to end the rest of the file from running and exit out. The command I'm using is netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=386 store=persistent which, as I mentioned above prints out an OK. I just want to check if it did run correctly, and if not, then do __

  • System 67 error scheduled task to transfer files

  • Product Recommendation: Good job scheduler for windows servers?

    - by Bret Fisher
Looking for a mostly-GUI tool that is low cost (less then $1k, but not required) and allows you to create scheduled tasks and jobs without writing vbscript, batch files, or powershell. Something simple that speaks SMB/CIFS, SMTP, LDAP, etc. for such things as "delete some files based on a list of folders from this text file" or "disable all users with expired accounts" or "delete all disabled users not in this AD group". I've seen some of the big multi-OS enterprise task automation systems and they just look way overkill. We're a windows-only shop, Server 2003 or newer and there's got to be a simple non-agent based product that is drag-n-drop for some of this basic automation. Today we use all three languages mentioned above, and the scripts are not as reliable as a workflow-based-tool would be. Thanks.
