Advanced search in Outlook 2007 - can I turn on Search subfolders by default?

When I do an Advanced Search (CTRL-SHIFT-F) in Outlook 2007, the Search subfolders option is always off by default. I have to click the Browse button and enable the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog every time. In Outlook 2002, it remembered the setting. Can Outlook 2007 be made to remember this setting?

However, if I use the Windows 7 built-in search functionality found when you click the Start button, using the same search criteria as I did in Outlook, Windows 7 finds the email immediately. Comma comes up instead of single quote with single quote key in MS-Word 2007

I have a peculiar problem in Microsoft Office 2007 (Word). When I am using single quotes, the first time I type a ' it appears as a , instead. For example, typing ''' translates to ,'' in Word, necessitating me to go back and delete the comma so that I can correctly single-quote words. Is there a solution to this? Also, the dictionary was set to German when I first started using the application, but I set it to US English after that.

Hi Team, While preparing a Word 2007 document, I made a mistake. (Not to say I don't have any other copy of the document) While formatting (as a try) I applied the style "Apply Style to Body to match selection". I am using word 2007 and am inserting code into the document. I have a style with a fixed-width font and light grey background and all, and I use Notepad++ for syntax highlighting. My problem is with a "line" of code that is too long to display, so is there a way to auto-insert an arrow symbol at the beginning of a such lines to indicate that it is the same line (kind of like hyphenating, except on long lines instead of long words) So for e.g. something like this: public static void foo(String abcdefg, Boolean 123, ?String xyz)

Using Word COM objects in .NET, WinWord process won't quit after calling Word.Documents.Add

I'm running into the classic scenario where, when creating Word COM objects in .NET (via the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word assembly), the WinWord process won't exit even though I'm properly closing and releasing the objects. I've narrowed it down to the use of the Word.Documents.Add() method. I can work with Word in other ways without a problem (opening documents, modifying contents, etc) and WinWord.exe quits when I tell it to. It's once I use the Add() method that the process is left running. Here is a simple example which reproduces the problem: Dim oWord As New Word.Application() oWord.Visible = False Dim oDocuments As Word.Documents = oWord.Documents Dim oDoc As Word.Document = oDocuments.Add(Template:=CObj(sTemplatePath), NewTemplate:=False, DocumentType:=Word.WdNewDocumentType.wdNewBlankDocument, Visible:=False) ' dispose objects oDoc.Close() While (Marshal.ReleaseComObject(oDoc) < 0) End While oDoc = Nothing oWord.Quit() While (Marshal.ReleaseComObject(oWord) < 0) End While oWord = Nothing As you can see I'm creating and disposing the objects properly, even taking the extra step to loop Marsha.ReleaseComObject until it returns the proper code. Working with the Word objects is fine in other regards, it's just that pesky Documents.Add that is causing me grief. Is there another object that gets created in this process that I need to reference and dispose of? Is there another disposal step I need to follow? Something else? Your help is much appreciated :)

Word documents very slow to open over network, but fine when opened locally - on one machine

Windows XP, Word 2003, patched. The issue is happening with several Word documents stored on a network drive. The Word documents are clearly a bit wonky (i.e. one is 675k, but if you copy everything but the last paragraph marker into a new document, the new document is only 30k). But that's only part of the problem. On one weird machine, and one machine only, it takes ~20 seconds to open these Word documents from the network drive. Copy the file to C: on that werid machine? Opens immediately. Go to other machines (that are very similar - same patch level, etc.) and open the same document from the network? Opens immediately. Delete normal.dot? 20 seconds. Login with a different user on the weird machine? 20 seconds. Plug wonky machine into a different network port? 20 seconds. So the problem appears to be hardware related (i.e. wonky internal NIC) or related to a setting that is not profile specific. Any ideas? "Scrubbing" all the documents isn't ideal for several reasons. This is driving me nuts because I swear I ran into this before many years ago and eventually figured it out. But I appear to have lost my notes.

Can't change text color in Microsoft Word 2010

I have Microsoft Office 2010 32-bit running on Windows 7 32-bit. When text is highlighted and a color is selected from the mini-toolbar or the ribbon, the text does not change color. If I change the color for multiple words, and select a different color for each word, the toolbar and ribbon will reflect each of the different colors that I chose, however it is not displayed in the document. So it appears that Word is aware of the text color and not as if it is simply not applying the change. What may be causing this inability to view text colors and how might I fix it? My only troubleshooting attempt so far has been to perform a repair installation of Office. EDIT 1 I created a document, typed a word, selected it and changed the color. I then saved the document as HTML. The text did not change color. Oddly, I had some strange issues while the macro was recorded. I could not select text with my cursor. I had to select the text with control a and then apply the color change. I then couldn't deselect the selected text. Nonetheless, the text showed that it had a different color in the toolbar, but the color did not display in the document. Here's the macro: Sub Change_Text_Color() ' ' Change_Text_Color Macro ' ' Selection.TypeText Text:="Test Text" Selection.WholeStory Selection.WholeStory End Sub EDIT 3 I opened WordPad and created some text and was able to successfully change the color. If I copy and paste the colored text into a Word 2010 document, the color is lost. However, if you place the I-beam in the text and then look at the color selection drop-down menu on the ribbon or mini-toolbar, you can see that the proper color that the text should be in is highlighted. Edit 4 I uninstalled the entire Office 2010 Suite, rebooted and then reinstalled the suite. No change in behavior. Edit 5 Text cannot be colored in Excel either.

Is there a word processor similar to MS Word which saves files as readable txt files?

I'm writing a paper together with my supervisor and would like to have a more sophisticated version control than *_291112_NEW_NEW_revised1.doc files. My supervisor is a non-computer person will never ever use LaTeX or git and loves MS Word. I'm therefore looking for an alternative to Word (I need commenting on text passages!) which stores the files as clean text (Markup for formating is fine), so I'm able to put them under version control on my side. I'm aware that git can also handle binary files, but I'd prefer the cleaner way of looking at the contents directly. If there's a way to automatically extract the text from word files, I'm fine with that too for now.

How do I get a .Net 4.0 app to coexist as an application under a SharePoint 2007 website in IIS v7?

I have created a small .Net 4.0 website and installed it on my SharePoint server as a separate web site in IIS v7 (using port 8008 for now). I had to install the .Net 4 framework, set up the database, etc. and this all went smoothly and my app works as a standalone website. Now I am trying to get pages from my website to show up in SharePoint 2007. For various reasons (the SharePoint site is using SSL, security, etc.) I now need to move my .Net app to run under the SharePoint 2007 site in IIS. I have added it as an 'Application' and set it up with the same .Net v4 application pool and settings that were working when it was set up as a standalone site. Now when I try to access the application I get the error at the end of this description. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already tried following the instructions on this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/sgoodyear/archive/2007/05/07/custom-web-applications-coexisting-with-sharepoint-2007.aspx but that did not help. Thanks! Word 2010 & 2007 Blue Background on screen as default

Default blue background and white text in Microsoft Word. I have just moved to Word 2010 (Student Version now released) and although it is possible to create individual documents with a blue background it is not possible to set the program with a blue background as a default. I understand this was discontinued with Office 2007. The only way I can open a document with a blue background is to create a Template with a blue background and use that for each document I wish to create. I'm sure there must be a method of hacking the registry to accomplish this. Can you assist. There must be countless people who who they knew how.
