• Recovering Pictures & Movies from Formatted Memory Card

  I thought I've copied all of the pictures and videos that I've taken using my digital camera Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS to my computer. Then I format the memory card. Then I found I didn't take all of the files! I don't have any other means of connecting the memory card to computer except via the camera. But the camera doesn't show it as a removable device directly in my computer so programs like Glary Utilities and PC Inspector didn't find the drive. I didn't take any picture after I formatted it. Is there any free software that can help me to get the pictures and videos? My memory card is an 4 GB SDHC card. Thanks.

  I know that you can use SysPrep and ImageX to create a prepared image that can be used on several systems but the question is. How well does it work in a corporate environment of moving machines from old hardware off to new harddrives and new hardware? EDIT: The system runs accounting software and databases. So would SysPrep remove all License keys and other information which means would cause problems right? Would something else be a better option even though there are heavy costs involved? Currently, when I clone/copy the drive, Windows will black screen on me. So I need something with differential hardware support?

• Is my HDD dead forever?

  Yesterday I turned on my computer and it couldn't boot. I found out the hd (320GB SATA Seagate Momentus 7200.3 for notebook) was broken and it couldn't be recognized by the BIOS. I have another of the same hard drive, so I exchanged the boards. I found out that there is a problem on its board since my good hard drive didn't work. But the broken hard drive doesn't work with the good board as well: it can be recognized but when I insert a Windows Instalation DVD it says the hard drive is 0GB. I put it in a case and use it in another computer via USB, and but it doesn't show up in the "My Computer". I used a software to recover files called "GetDataBack for NTFS", it recognized the hard drive but with the wrong size (2TB). I try to make it read the hard drive but it got an I/O error reading sector. It tries to read, the hard drive spins up. So, since I'm using a good board on it, the problem seems to be internal. Is there anything someone could do to recover the files from it?

• Free or Open Solution for Storing and Charting CSV data

  I'm presently storing CSV files, combining them, opening them in open office, creating pivot tables and then generating charts from the spreadsheet. I've looked at OOBase, but appending csv files to base is clunky for some reason. SQLite seems like a good database solution, but I've haven't found a good charting program that connects to it with ease. Although open office (or libreoffice) maintains the references and allows you to update the information, this process is far from efficient. There are too many steps and it seems one program should handle all of these tasks. A better program would be more intuitive, allow you to simply add inserts into a database, and include an interface for standard charting settings. EDIT Simplest Automated Analysis and Chart Generation Tool? The above answer references Spotfire and Tableau, each of which has a free 14 and 30 day trial. Each program is nicely streamlined and designed. I'm looking for a program between this quality and LibreOffice. Can you recommend a better open or free desktop solution for windows?

  Let's assume some things: Back-ups do run every X minutes, yet the things I save should be permanent. There's a firewall and virus scanner in place, yet there happens to be a zero day attack on me. I am using Windows. (Although feel free to append Linux / OS X parts to your answer) Here is the problem Any software can change anything inside my user folder. Tampering with the files could cost me my life, whether it's accessing / modifying or wiping them. So, what I want to ask is: Is there a permission-based way to disallow programs from accessing my files in any way by default? Extending on the previous question, can I ensure certain programs can only access certain folders? Are there other less obtrusive ways than using Comodo? Or can I make Comodo less obtrusive? • How do I access a hard drive from a computer where windows is deleted?

  Here is the current situation: My cousin deleted Windows from his hard drive (yeah, don't ask...). His hard drive still has about 200 GB of files on it that he may want to recover before we format the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7 to it. Is there a way I can create a bootable CD from some utility that will allow me to access the files on the hard drive, and copy it to a flash drive? What's the best utility for that?

  Hi, I had a win xp with an NTFS partion for programs (c:) and I installed ubuntu 10.10 on it. I will use ubuntu from now on. On the disk there was a space for the NTFS partition and free space. I created in the free space a new linux partition. So the new linux partition is a ext3. now from ubuntu I used the disk utility and saw that the windows is marked as free space. I had only one possibility, which is to create a partition, so I did as NTFS. I did NOT format it. I don't care about the windows system, I just need to access the program files folder on that partition and get my chrome bookmarks. I forgot to save them before the installation of linux. do you think it is possible? if so how? thanks.

The problem is that although the user can connect to it and set both a new SSID and a WPA passphrase, these are being sent to the AP in plain text and thus can be intercepted by anyone nearby with a sniffer.   I have a problem with my Zebra zm 400. I print a label from loftware, and in random times comes the label not out from the printer. When this issue comes, then I can't ping my printer or I can't achive the webpage of the printer. • running chkdsk on a disk without a drive letter

  I have a hard drive that shows up in Disk Management as having two partitions. One of the partitions says 69.71GB and that's it. The other says 4.82GB and, underneath that, Healthy (OEM Partition). I'm trying to do chkdsk on the 69.71GB partition and am unsure of how to do it without a drive letter. Any ideas? It's an NTFS partition that's gotten corrupted. Linux's ntfsfix spits out a bunch of errors so I'm thinking chkdsk might be better. Thanks

  Hi, In the company I work for we are heavy users of vmware machines. Almost all our projects are developed inside a virtual environment up to the point where we have to deploy them into a production system. While in development, some colleagues of mine deleted the redo log files for Oracle in the hopes of gaining some free space. Now they are unable to start the database instance. Is there a way of generating a fresh new redo log so that the instance can be started? This is urgent and even though I'm currently googling for an answer I have yet to find it. Thanks in advance.

  I have just started playing around with Vmware sphere and have the hypervisor OS installed on a spare HP ProLiant DL360 G4. I have created a test virtual machine running Ubuntu which has worked well. As a test project I wanted to convert a powered on server running Windows Server 2008 64bit into a virtual machine. As soon as I ran the Vmware Go software to start the conversion it became apparent that I cannot run 64bit guest OS's on that particular server. So, is there a way of migrating 64bit to 32bit during the conversion?

  I need some help configuring AD LDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services). I'm not an administrator, have never configured domains and I don't have a clue how to add new users to existing domains. The thing is I need to develop an app on top of Sharepoint 2010 that must be connected to AD. I've chosen AD LDS because I can install it on Windows 7 and it acts as an active directory even though there's no domain controller present in the network.   Hi, I used this mktrashcan command mktrashcan deleteMe1 trashcan/ And then i Deleted all the contents inside deleteMe1 directory(rm -rf*).. But then what happend is only the two text files which are inside the deleteMe1(deleteMe2.txt, deleteMe3.txt) directory were moved into the trashcan folder.. Rest of the directories and files inside the directories were not foundd!! Isn't there any other way, so that whatever is deleted, moves exactly the same way to the trashcan directory???   For the purpose of this question, I am interested in server/datacenter related hardware. Have you had any measureable amount of ROI by swapping existing hardware to more "green" or energy efficient hardware? For example, VMWare says you can reduce energy consumption by up to 80% by using virtualization. I have also heard of a cooling solution from HP which is suppose to reduce a small amount of engery usage (<25% I think). Google has also done something by integrating a UPS into their power supplies to reduce energy consumption. Any real world experiences would be great, but if you have any details on initial cost, savings and pay off time about what changes were make that would fantastic. I am not only interested in virtualization, I am interested in anything.

• download speed is fast but transfer rate is slow

  I've just changed ISP and I'm pretty disappointed with the transfer rate. My previous connection has a download speed of 1.08 Mb/s as seen from this site: http://speedtest.net and the download transfer rate is about 100kb/s for sites that doesn't limit their bandwidth. Now my connection has about 2Mb/s download speed but the transfer rate is dancing from 20-50kb/s . I was expecting a speed much higher than this because of the download speed that I'm getting when I'm testing. The question is what's the difference between transfer rate and download speed, is it normal to have a high download speed but low transfer rate, should the download speed be proportional to the transfer rate?
