• Smart pagination algorithm

  I'm looking for an example algorithm of smart pagination. By smart, what I mean is that I only want to show, for example, 2 adjacent pages to the current page, so instead of ending up with a ridiculously long page list, I truncate it. Here's a quick example to make it clearer... this is what I have now: Pages: 1 2 3 4 [5] 6 7 8 9 10 11 This is what I want to end up with: Pages: ... 3 4 [5] 6 7 ... (In this example, I'm only showing 2 adjacent pages to the current page) I'm implementing it in PHP/Mysql, and the "basic" pagination (no trucating) is already coded, I'm just looking for an example to optimize it...   UPDATE: My mistake - I made a typo. Nevermind this question. I'm using php to update a mysql database. The resultant query I'm using when i print it out on my webpage before executing is as follows: INSERT INTO perch2_content_items (itemOrder, regionID, pageID, itemRev, itemID, itemJSON, itemSearch ) SELECT MAX(itemOrder)+1, 105, 81, 11, 118, 'json', 'search' FROM perch2_content_items WHERE regionID=105 When I copy and paste this query directly into the phpmyadmin SQL interface, it works fine. The table gets updated.   For a project, I have to convert a binary string into (an array of) bytes and write it out to a file in binary. Say that I have a sentence converted into a code string using a huffman encoding. For example, if the sentence was: "hello" h = 00 e = 01, l = 10, o = 11 Then the string representation would be 0001101011. How would I convert that into a byte? <-- If that question doesn't make sense it's because I know little about bits/byte bitwise shifting and all that has to do with manipulating 1's and 0's.

• Custom Parser for JQuery Tablesorter

  I'm using the jQuery Tablesorter and have an issue with the order in which parsers are applied against table columns. I'm adding a custom parser to handle currency of the form $-3.33. $.tablesorter.addParser({ id: "fancyCurrency", is: function(s) { return /^\$[\-]?[0-9,\.]*$/.test(s); }, format: function(s) { s = s.replace(/[$,]/g,''); return $.tablesorter.formatFloat( s ); }, type: "numeric" }); The problem seems to be that the built-in currency parser takes precedence over my custom parser. I could put the parser in the tablesorter code itself (before the currency parser) and it works properly, but this isn't very maintainable. I can't specify the sorter manually using something like: headers: { 3: { sorter: "fancyNumber" }, 11: { sorter: "fancyCurrency" } } since the table columns are generated dynamically from user inputs. I guess one option would be to specify the sorter to use as a css class and use some JQuery to explicitly specify a sorter like this question suggests, but I'd prefer to stick with dynamic detection if possible.

  I was playing with the Stack Exchange Data Explorer and ran this query: http://odata.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/q/2828/rising-stars-top-50-users-ordered-on-rep-per-day Notice down in the results, rows 11 and 12 have the same value and so are mis-numbered, even though the row_number() function takes the same order by parameter as the query. I know the correct fix here is to specify an additional tie-breaker column in the order by clauses, but I'm more curious as to why/how the row_number() function returned different results on the same data? If it makes a difference anywhere, this runs on Azure.

  Hello I have this query: SELECT * FROM SAMPLE SAMPLE INNER JOIN TEST TEST ON SAMPLE.SAMPLE_NUMBER = TEST.SAMPLE_NUMBER INNER JOIN RESULT RESULT ON TEST.TEST_NUMBER = RESULT . TEST_NUMBER WHERE SAMPLED_DATE BETWEEN '2010-03-17 09:00' AND '2010-03-17 12:00' the biggest table here is RESULT, contains 11.1M records. The left 2 tables about 1M. this query works slowly (more than 10 minutes) and returns about 800 records. executing plan shows clustered index scan over all 11M records. RESULT.TEST_NUMBER is a clustered primary key. if I change 2010-03-17 09:00 to 2010-03-17 10:00 - i get about 40 records. it executes for 300ms. and plan shows clustered index seek if i replace * in SELECT clause to RESULT.TEST_NUMBER (covered with index) - then all become fast in first case too. this points to hdd io issues, but doesn't clarifies changing plan. so, any ideas?

  Hello A client of mine has had an HD crash an a SQL DB got corrupt : They did not make backups so they have a big problem. When I tried (an ultimate measure) to DBCC-repair I got the following message. Can anybody help me with this ? Server: Msg 8966, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Could not read and latch page (1:872) with latch type SH. sysindexes failed. Server: Msg 8944, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Table error: Object ID 2, index ID 0, page (1:872), row 11. Test (columnOffsets->IsComplex (varColumnNumber) && (ColumnId == COLID_HYDRA_TEXTPTR || ColumnId == COLID_INROW_ROOT || ColumnId == COLID_BACKPTR)) failed. Values are 2 and 5. The repair level on the DBCC statement caused this repair to be bypassed. CHECKTABLE found 0 allocation errors and 1 consistency errors in table 'sysindexes' (object ID 2). DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.

For example, I am inserting a record with Id=5 Product=Sony, ProductOrder=2 Then it should look for all the products with ProductOrder greater than or equal to 2 and increment them by 1. So, the resultant data in the SQL table should be as follows Id Product ProductOrder 1 Dell 1 2 HP 4 3 lenovo 3 4 Apple 11 5 Sony 2 From above we can see that ProductOrder which are equal or greater than the inserted are incremented by 1 like HP,Lenovo,Apple May I know a way to implement this?

I'm trying to get started with java development, and develop 2d games, but I can't get the project to run.   I've run into the following a few times with initializer lists and I've never been able to explain it well. Can anyone explain why exactly the following fails (I don't have a compiler to catch typos, so bear with me): class Foo { public: Foo( int i ) : m_i( i ) {} //works with no problem int getInt() {return m_i;} ~Foo {} private: int m_i; }; class Bar { public: Bar() : m_foo( 5 ), //this is ok m_myInt( m_foo.getInt() ) //runtime error, seg 11 {} ~Bar() {} private: Foo m_foo; int m_myInt; }; When trying to call member functions of members initialized higher up the initializer list, I get seg faults. I seem to recall this is a known problem (or perhaps somehow by design) but I've never seen it well described. The attached example is contrived with plain old data types, but substitute the Bar::m_myInt with another object lacking a default (empty) constructor and the issue is more real. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks!

  I want to do syslogging from Java. There is a log4j appender, but it doesn't seem to work (for me anyway ... though Google results show many others with this issue still unresolved).   I have this route that i just added routes.MapRoute( "MyRoute", "MyController/{action}/{orgId}/{startDate}/{endDate}", new { controller = "MyController", action = "MyAction", orgId = 0, startDate = DateTime.Today.AddMonths(-1), endDate = DateTime.Today }, new { action = new FromValuesListConstraint(new string[] { "MyAction", "MyActionEx" }), orgId = new IntegerRouteConstraint(), startDate = new DateTimeRouteConstraint(), endDate = new DateTimeRouteConstraint() } when i put in this url, it resolves down to the default route (controller, action,id) and the above rout does not catch this url: http://localhost:1713/MyController/MyAction/16 But this below works fine. http://localhost:1713/MyController/MyAction/16/11-May-10/11-May-10 my question is that i thought both would work as i am giving default values to the startDate and enddate fields i tested this using the RouteDebugger and this route turned up false how can i have these last two parameter as optional but still have the validation ?

  I'm writing an interposition library to track the usage of some library functions in libc, such as open(), close(), connect(), etc. It works generally well on most of the applications. However, when I try it with PHP, using PHP's MySQL module in particular, none of the function calls to libc inside this module is been tracked (so no connect(), no socket(), etc.). 'strace' told me that the system calls socket(), connect(), etc., took place. Running 'file' on the module and libmysqlclient.so.16.0.0 said that they are all dynamically linked. So it shouldn't be a problem caused by static linkage. What might be the problem? I'm using Fedora 11 64-bit version. Thank you.

  I have a script all done now and everything has been debugged and it works, except for the last hurdle. This script grabs pertinent information on bank web sites, takes that data and uses it to populate a template and then it's all posted to Wordpress - BUT I get an error because the file_get_contents function fails taking each url from the Array.   Is there any standard means in PHP to read the Set-Cookie instructions in an HTTP Response header, without manually parsing it? More specifically, I want to read the value of the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie returned by an ASP.NET Web Service I am consuming.
