  • Make pygame's frame rate faster

    By profiling my game, I see that the vast majority of the execution time of my hobby game is between the blit and the flip calls. Currently, it's only running at around 13fps. My video card is fairly decent, so my guess is that pygame is not using it. Does anyone know of any graphics/display options I need to set in pygame to make this faster? Or is this just something that I have to live with since I've chosen pygame?

  • No GRUB Screen or recovery mode on Boot after 12.04 Upgrade

    I tried the live boot CD and boot-repair, also loaded the Desktop install CD, and it looks like all partitions check out OK. However, when I try to boot Linux (the only bootable partition on the computer) I get a blank screen. Every so often the screen give me something akin to: Assuming write through cache Asking for cache data failed it appears to start booting, then hangs. Ctrl+Alt+Delete shuts down the machine The last message during boot is "STarting TiMidity++ ALSA midi emulation... [OK]" I used boot-repair to generate a boot info report. One thing looks odd to me- it reports a missing core.img on /dev/sda1.     We recently underwent an upgrade that required us to change our database columns from varchar to NVarchar, to support unicode characters.     This question already has an answer here: Will having multiple domains improve my seo? 7 answers I'm running a website for a global company, and although we rank first in search engine results here in Ireland, a search done from other countries doesn't rank us as highly. If I register the domain at other top level domain names (eg. example.co.uk, example.nor etc.) and then just mirror the .com site to those other domains, will I be penalised by search engines for having duplicate content? Has anyone else faced a similar problem and found a way to capture the global search engine? Thanks.

    Now that Flash is largely being replaced with HTML5 elements (video, audio, canvas, etc.) are there any good examples of web-based games built on completely open standards (meaning Javascript, HTML and CSS)? I see a lot of examples of pure HTML5 implementations of what was once only in Flash (like stuff here: http://www.html5rocks.com/) but not many games, a domain which still seem dominated by Flash. I'm curious what's possible and what the limitations are.

  • Why does switching users completely hang my system every time?

    I have a fresh install of 11.04 64bit, with 2 administrator accounts and 4 normal accounts. The 4 normal accounts (the kids' accounts) don't have passwords, they can login simply by clicking on their names. When any of the users -- either admin or normal -- tries to switch to another account by clicking in the top-right corner of the screen and selecting another user, the screen goes black and the entire system locks up. Even CTRL+ALT+F1 through F7 does nothing. This is reproducible 100% of the time on this system. I can ssh into the box when the console locks up, and by running top, I see that Xorg is consuming about 100% of the CPU.
