  • Multi-Application Server Environment and Memcached Security

    We are looking to integrate Memcached into our infrastructure, but have a security concern before we do. We run several platforms including ASP.NET and Coldfusion and have many app developers working many little applications across the different platforms. The concern is this: App A places item "dog" into cache. App B reads item "dog" (or worse: App B updates item "dog") After this happens, App A either retrieves bad information, or has already had its information viewed, aka "stolen". What we would like to do is make it so that each app can only interact with its own sandbox, and may not interfere with or read other application's data. Is this possible? Thanks.

    In a windows webservere I'm trying to get a memory dump of a failing IIS 7 worker process (w3wp.exe) with no avail. In the Event Viewer I get the following. I get another event telling me that there is a report here: *C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\AppCrash_w3wp.exe_cdb8af6deb381574fe9fb0dc9aa3edaad59acd5f_cab_4fbf9b53* It contains the following files: WERD931.tmp.appcompat.txt WERDFE9.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml WER99EF.tmp.WERDataCollectionFailure.txt The "depressing one" is the WERDataCollectionFailure that says: Heap dump generation failed: 0x8007012b Mini dump generation failed: 0x8007001f After many tries, lots of msdn documentation and many failed google search. I'm out of ideas on how to get a dump here. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to make WER work? Thank you in advance for your time reading this :)

  • HP UX can not boot from Ignite Tape

    We have hp rp2470 server running hp-ux 11.00, with LVM mirroring. As for redundancy we have second rp2470 same hw (same two processors, same ram, same two hdd’s, same number of lan cards). I want to clone first one to the second. For that purpose I am making ignite tape with the following command: make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 Ignite tape finishes without problems. When I boot second server from this ignate tape, server is starting to boot, and ignite restore finishes without any errors, only few notes, which are normal. However vmunix is not booting and when restore finishes, it boot to ISL prompt. From this I cannot boot /stand/vmunix. I tried to run recovery shell but no success. When recovery shell ask to do frecover to restore critical files, then I receive error: frecover(5405): unable to open /dev/rmt/0m At first I thought that the problem might be in the difference of the firmware version of the servers: fw version of production server is: Firmware Version 43.50 and fw version of backup server is: Firmware Version 42.19 So i did a fw upgrade of my backup server so that both servers are v43.50, and tried a recovery but again cant boot the system. Next I did another archive tape with -I (Interactive) flag: make_tape_recovery -I -x inc_entire=vg00 and tried recovery with it, again no good. I cannot find any error or warnings on ignite log, and I cannot boot hpux. I am only on ISL prompt.     Hi all. The error as shown in the 2 pictures below: The configurations for named.conf and the zones files as shown below: After applying "alveso" suggestion below. Now, I think there is no error but I still can't ping my own domain www.p0864868.com (10.0.0.1) nor can I do host or nslookup as shown on previous pictures. PLease assist. Thank you in advance. I also attached my the changes that I made to my named.conf as well as my resolve.conf configs as shown below: progress 2: turned on logging by typping "rndc queylog" The output as below when I pinged p0864868.com progress 3: changed permission of 10-0-0.zone and p086868.zone to 644 named:named Still can't ping www.p0864868.com or execute host command. It says something like network unreachable. I don't understand why it refer to I don't what address is that.

  • TTL for PTR records on Windows 2003 Server DNS

    When I look at the TTL (Time to Live) for PTR records (Reverse Lookup Zone) on one of our Windows 2003 DNS servers I see some are at 15 minutes, others are at 20. They have "Delete this record when it becomes stale" checked. These PTR records are for workstations that get IPs from Windows DHCP, so I think that creates the PTR records dynamically? How is TTL for these records set?

    What is needed in the tfs 2010 build agent, to build .net 4.5 projects, in tfs 2008 we had to set the MSBuildPath property, but the configuration seems to be different in 2010. I get the following error message. (614): The imported project "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v11.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk.   • Server unable to communicate OUT, fine serving traffic

    We have several servers that are randomly loses the ability to communicate out to other nodes on the local network and internet. However websites are being served fine and we still have ssh access. A reboot seems to fix the problem for a few days. The servers are running 10.5.X and are fully up to date with software updates. Does anyone have any opinions, we think it is probably an ISP router, but we are guessing. Cheers Jono

    I'm not a DBA, I'm a developer - and I'm having trouble with SQL Server Management studio. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard on Windows 2008 Server R2, and according to Sql Server Configuration Manager, I've got two instances: OFFICESERVERS (for sharepoint) and MSSQLSERVER. When I open SQL Server Management Studio I can only discover OFFICESERVERS. I've checked the protocol configuration for both instances and didn't see anything that indicates to me why this would be. Any hints?

  • Setting affinity on windows server 2003

    I have a program that by default only runs on one CPU. I have tried using the start /affinity x notepad.exe batch command but i can't get it to run my program. it changes the title of the command line window but doesn't execute the program. this start command does work for notepad so it might just be a problem with the software. I have set the affinity manually via task manager so i know it works. I am not the programmer of this software so changing that is not an option.

    My group inherited several 2008 R2 servers with single 70GB RAID 1 boot/system disks. No other disks in the servers. We need larger boot / system disk. Plan is : to replace one disk with new 500 GB drive wait for resync replace other smaller disk with 2nd 500 GB drive wait for resysnc Now I should have 500 GB RAID 1 with original 70 GB partition Then I would like to extend the 70 GB partition to 200 GB and add D: drive partition with remaining 300 GB Can the above be done using Windows Disk Management and / or Windows DiskPart ?

  • Disk quota problem in Windows Server SBS 2003

    I have got a new job and the existing SBS 2003 domain setup is unsecure (i.e. everyone is a domain admin etc etc). There are lots of problem due to inexperienced "network admin", and I am trying to fix them one by one. There exist one issue which I found quite weird, that the "Quota" tab exists in the C:(NTFS) drive but not the D:(NTFS) drive. I played around with gpedit to enable disk quota (it was "not configured" before), but still I can't see that tab. Have you seen this problem before? How did you solve it?

  • Option do not show schema names in SQL Server Management Studio

    I love the fact that tree and list controls in Windows allows incremental searches. Just select a starting point, and type, and the control will select the best matching node for you. This works in SSMS, but there's an annoying problem, especially so in the table node. SSMS prefixes all table names with the schema name and a dot. To make an incremental search here, I have to type 'dbo.', followed by whatever I'm searching for. Is there an option to turn off this table name representation in SSMS? I hope I'm asking this on the right stack exchange site. If you feel it's off base, let me know!

    I would prefer to set up our DFS such as: \domain.local\users \domain.local\customers \domain.local\support etc. Is this a problem? Do I need to instead set all of the above folders as targets under a root such as: \domain.local\files\users \domain.local\files\customers \domain.local\files\support Other than the path being shorter in the top example, which is what I would prefer, is there a difference in functionality in Windows DFS between the two examples shown?     Hi Gents, I'm looking to set up a wildcard cname on a FQDN but cant seem to get it to work. This is what i'm trying to achive: A Record : domain.co.uk : my.ip.address.1 A Record : en.domain.co.uk : my.ip.address.1 cname : www.*.en.domain.co.uk : --> uk.domain.co.uk I'm reasonably new to all this kind of thing, so it's pretty probably pretty straight forward. The number of sites forbids the use of multiple IP addresses. Thanks for any assistance.

    Ok. We know database size, number of concurrent users, number of transactions per minute; should choose number of processors, RAID, RAM, mirroring and clustering. There are no exact rule.. but may be there are no rules at all? In my practice in every case I have "legacy" system, and after some inspections and interview I can form an opinion how hardware and design can be improved. But every time when I meet "absolutely" new system (I guess there are no new systems, but sometimes are such tasks) I can't say anything trustful. So I'm interesting how people deal with such tasks? They map task on theirs experience or have some base formulas?

  • EMC/Legato/Networker Failed to recover files : Cross Platform Recovery not supported.

    Software used to backup: EMC / Legato Networker legato server : windows legato clients: same hardware (2 years ago fedora something , now ubuntu ) Trying to recover from an old client, which is no longer available. So this is the thing. On 07/20/2008 we backed up a samba server(fedora something) to a tape , setting 1 year as browse policy and retention policy. Now this tape is recyclable. We took down the dns name. We deleted the legato client configuration. That legato client was reinstalled and is doing other stuff on ubuntu 10.04, with a different name but same ip. Now, 2 years and some month later #### Now we need to recover a folder from 2008 backup, on the fedora-samba-server. First thing, legato does not show the client name because the config was deleted. We create it again. We just set the old dns back on track, pointing the same ip, where the old server was, same MAC address ;). We created a new 'old client configuration' pointing to the new server. (different legato ip for client "I suppose" ) The ssid where the needed folder is on 2 tapes, 20 and 22. The index for that backup is on tape 21. We put this tapes on the jukebox (IBMT4000) -- not important for the issue -- All three tapes expired its browsable and recoverable time. So they are on recyclable. We get the clone id from the ssid with following command: mminfo -avot -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r cloneid We set the tapes to notrecyclable nsrmm -S <ssid>/<cloneid> -o notrecyclable We change the retention for the tapes for a future date nsrmm -S <ssid> -e 01/20/2011 We check the dates are correct : mminf -avV -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r ssbrowse(26),ssretent(26),savetime So far its OK. We close the terminal. Restart the server, just for being sure. Finally, we recover the index for that ssid where the folder should be. nsrck -L7 -t "07/20/2008" oldservername.domain.org There, we open the Networker User, select the server, select the old client as source, select the new client as destination.     Hi guys, Is there a quick way to give the local administrator full rights to all folders on the C drive? I am having really hard time with that, I try to give it full rights to some folders (user profiles) but I can't even modify the NTFS permissions in some cases, I get "permission denied" Is there some soft of tutorial or script that will just give the administrator full rights on all folders in the C driver?   • SSL Certificate Stops Working after Server Reboot on IIS7, W2K8

    We recently upgraded from W2K3/IIS6 to W2K8/IIS7 and have been having problems with our SSL Certificate (Thawte 123 SSL certificate) ceasing to work after rebooting. Initially, the intermediate certificates would stop working and we could repair the problem by reinstalling all of them after the reboot (annoying, but not the end of the world). Unfortunately, this is no longer working. The certificate chain has been doublechecked by several tools and people with decent knowledge but no one has been able to identify the cause of the problem. The bindings in IIS have been checked as well The cert itself is also still valid. NOTE 1: I have seen THIS question which seems to be very similar, but there is no satisfactory answer in that post and it's a year old so not likely to get one any time soon. NOTE 2: I'm asking this on behalf of a co-worker so won't be able to provide instant feedback to any questions/suggestions but I will pass it on.   • Windows Server 2008 R2 Finding Hidden files that are causing drive to fill up

    What is the best way to find out what files are sucking up so much space? My Windows directory lists its size as 15 GB but when I run a powershell script against it, it shows 40 GB. It seems 40 GB is about right because if I use that 40 GB and add it to the rest of my folders on C I get the 45 GB that is in use. I checked volume shadow copy and that is disabled and there are no volume shadow files listed. My page file is limited to 3 GB. How can I find out what files are taking 25 GB of space? Final Results: We ended up disabling UAC and then the Properties showed the true file size of the Windows folder, as shown in powershell script. This allowed us to drill down to the folder that had the issues... In our case it was in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\VMware\VDM there were several large dump files, these were the mysterious unknown files in WinDirStat. It turns out our nessus scan is crashing a view service for a couple seconds so it creates a large dump file. So we will try this.. https://discussions.nessus.org/thread/5212
