  • SSL Certificate Stops Working after Server Reboot on IIS7, W2K8

    We recently upgraded from W2K3/IIS6 to W2K8/IIS7 and have been having problems with our SSL Certificate (Thawte 123 SSL certificate) ceasing to work after rebooting. Initially, the intermediate certificates would stop working and we could repair the problem by reinstalling all of them after the reboot (annoying, but not the end of the world). Unfortunately, this is no longer working. The certificate chain has been doublechecked by several tools and people with decent knowledge but no one has been able to identify the cause of the problem. The bindings in IIS have been checked as well The cert itself is also still valid. NOTE 1: I have seen THIS question which seems to be very similar, but there is no satisfactory answer in that post and it's a year old so not likely to get one any time soon. NOTE 2: I'm asking this on behalf of a co-worker so won't be able to provide instant feedback to any questions/suggestions but I will pass it on.   • AFP/SSH stopped working on OS X Server

    I have 3 Mac OS X servers all bound to AD, all configured in the Golden Triangle setup. All 3 are completely separate from each other in terms of services, but all reside on the same internal network and are all bound to the same Active Directory domain. Two are 10.5.x (latest updates) and one is 10.6.3. Last weekend, all 3 simultaneously stopped allowing Active Directory users access to certain services, specifically AFP & SSH. SMB still works fine on all 3. I asked the AD admin if anything changed, and he said "Yes, we made a change to user accounts to toughen up security", and suggested I use [email protected] instead of just username. This still didn't work. I have completely removed one of my servers from AD, and re-joined, but this didn't work either. I can do kinit from command line and get a Kerberos ticket. sudo klist -ke shows all services are configured to use the correct Kerberos principles. I have been scavenging the logs for any useful info. The AFP log just shows that I'm connecting and disconnecting. The DirectoryService.log shows stuff about misconfigured Kerberos hashes, but my research is showing that's not uncommon. /var/log/system.log isn't showing anything useful that I can see. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help/ideas appreciated.

This is done through a IIS-module, and this module does not use the built-in IIS-caching feature. We'd like to cache the files from the UNC share in a ram disk.   • exchange server 2010 Outlook Web Access - Exchange Control Panel WEB Interface

    from what i can gather the mailbox bit of the web interface works fine.. when any of the users go to options (top right) and try to use some of the features such as the Organise Mail Delivery Reports to find messages etc... it comes up with a message ..   • Windows 7 ssh file server.

    Hello all- I have looked at the other posts, but have not quite found an answer I have a question about windows file sharing over SSH. I have copssh installed and it is working for Remote desktop connections. I have port 22 forwarded on my router etc. I connect from a Mac or Putty with this address: ssh -l copsshusername 3391:localhost:3389 [external ip] That works fine. I would like to configure Windows 7 to allow my ssh account that I use to login, access to certain shared folders. I have documents and videos and things that I would like to be able to download externally. I have done this before on Linux and a long time ago on XP, but I cannot figure out what I am missing on Windows 7. There is a designated SSH user that copssh uses to run the service and that I use to to login as. I have googled and googled and have not found a solution that does everything I need that is why I am turning here for ideas. I hope I am explaining this correctly.   • hosting site on one web server and accessing a database on another

    I'm fairly sure this is the right place for this question, but if not please move it to the the right site. I have a number of sites on a 1and1 package (yeah, I know...) and I also have a subdomian that belongs to a college tutor. I have been playing around with PHP and MySQL databases on the subdomian site and would like to know if it is possible to run a database driven (i.e. blog) on one of my 1and1 sites. I could upgrade my package but if I'm only going to gain database functionality I'm not sure if I want to do it. Also, as 1and1 don't use cPanel I'm wondering how the databases would be managed...but I'll worry about that when (if) the time comes. Cheers!

  • 4TB HGST SATA drive only shows 1.62 TB in Windows Server 2012

    I'm using a Supermicro X9SRE-3F motherboard with the latest BIOS and 2x 4TB drives connected to the on-board SATA controller. If I set the BIOS to RAID and create a RAID 1 array, the array shows up in the BIOS as 3.6TB. However when I boot Windows (on a separate RAID 1 array), the 4TB drives show up individually in disk manager as 2x 1.62TB drives. I could use Windows 2012 to set up software RAID 1, but when I set the BIOS back to 2x individual drives, they still show up in Windows as 2x 1.62TB drives. How do I access the full capacity of these drives? Thanks, Brian Bulaw

  • Loads of memory in "standby" on Windows Server 2008 R2

    In our SharePoint farm, our Web Front End servers all have loads of memory in "standby" mode, meaning very little is available for our IIS worker process. We have 32 GB of RAM in each of the boxes, and standby memory will creep up to about 28 GB, whereas the IIS worker process only seems to be using about 2 GB. Also, we've seen the machine use the swap file extensively while this memory was in standby, so I am starting to think that this memory in standby mode is stopping IIS from using it, forcing it to swap to disk, causing more performance problems. I used SysInternals RamMap to indentify what is being kept in memory, and it was able to tell me that almost everything in standby memory is of type "Mapped File". When I sort the files listed under the file summary tab in RamMap by file size, the largest files (around a few hundred meg each) are IIS log files and SharePoint log files. I would like to understand which process is loading these files into standby memory and why they are not being released. When I do an iisreset, it does not release the memory. Any ideas? Thanks!

    I have a fileserver that will need to be shipped internationally soon. I'm looking on advice for packing and recommendations on methods/companies. Should it be shipped whole, or in parts? How to pack it, precautions to take. Any way you slice it, it's going to be very heavy. Will this cause problems? Whats the best way to protect it from shock? It would be pointless for it to arrive with broken hdd's. If you've done this before, your hindsight would be invaluable.

  • How to check use of userva boot option on Win 2K3 server

    I have some 32-bit Win2K3 servers running an application that fails now and then apparently due to heap fragmentation. (Process virtual bytes grows, private bytes does not) I do not have access to the source code or build process of this application. I have modified the boot.ini file on one of these servers to include /userva=2560, half way between the normal mode of operation and the /3GB option. Normally it takes weeks to reach the point of failure, but I'd like to see right away whether this has actually had any effect. As I understand it, this option limits the kernel to the remaining address space (1536MB instead of 2048), but does not necessarily give an application the extra address space, depending on the flags in the application's PE header. How can I determine whether the O/S is allowing a particular application, running in production, to access address space above 2GB? Additionally, what's the best way to monitor the system to ensure that the kernel is not starved for address space, and more generally how should I go about finding the optimal value for this setting?

    I am attempting to setup a RD Gateway for a client. When I first set it up I noticed that IIS did not have the 'Defualt Web Site' so I created it and assigned it an id of 1 and set the bindings to port 80 and 443. I then re installed the RD Gateway role with the idea that it would then configure IIS correctly. It did not. How would I go about making sure a re install of the Remote Desktop Gateway role configures IIS correctly? I cannot re install IIS as there is a site that is already on there that I cannot take down

  • Disk quota problem in Windows Server SBS 2003

    I have got a new job and the existing SBS 2003 domain setup is unsecure (i.e. everyone is a domain admin etc etc). There are lots of problem due to inexperienced "network admin", and I am trying to fix them one by one. There exist one issue which I found quite weird, that the "Quota" tab exists in the C:(NTFS) drive but not the D:(NTFS) drive. I played around with gpedit to enable disk quota (it was "not configured" before), but still I can't see that tab. Have you seen this problem before? How did you solve it?

  • Server 2003 R2 - II6- granting access to website via IP with subnet range

    We are trying to allow for a client to connect to our website. By default we are Denying all access except for those with the specified IPs we have configured to run, everything before has just been a single IP address. However now we must implement a range of IPs and rather than input thousands of records we want to use the group of computer options in the Grant Access page. However we have it configured to work off of the IP 72.21.192.0 with a subnet mask of 255.255.224.0 They are unable to connect. Looking over our IIS logs they are receiving a 302 error which is the same behavior anyone should get whom is unauthorized to view the page in question. The IP address coming in is 72.21.217.2, so it should be well within the rage of acceptable IP addresses. I'm at a loss as everything I look up tells me to do what we are doing. So any insight would be appreciated. Especially because I'm a software guy not hardware. Thanks!

    Hi All, I've been tasked with comparing the monitoring capabilities in SCOM 2007 with the established SQL products such as Spotlight, SQLSentry, etc. I'm pretty sure that SCOM can't do some of the more in-depth stuff that those products do, but can it be configured/programmed to alert on the most often encountered problems via VBScript and TSQL.     Hello, I try to configure a file-type item for .axd filetype. There I have troubles with the associated class for this file-type. E.g. I have tried it with "XML-document" (xml-informations are included at the files with .axd) but it does not work. The .axd file will not be opened with the associated application.   • Stop WSUS from rebooting a server

    Our IT department is rolling out a set of patches via WSUS this weekend and will reboot all of our Win2k3 servers on Sunday. Due to production work which must continue uninhibited, we cannot allow this reboot to occur. The exact line we have been given is: The command to download the patches and reboot on Sunday has been sent by WSUS already and cannot be taken back. The servers will reboot on Sunday automatically. How can we go about stopping this from happening? It set some flag saying it should reboot, so what flag do we unset? One strategy proposed was to roll back the system clock, however, this will likely cause some processes to fail.

  • Windows Server 2008 firewall rules order problem

    I have one rule that opens FTP port for all connections. I have second rule that blocks ALL connections on ALL protocols for some IP's. However, connections from those IP's that are blocked can still connect to FTP port because that rule obviously takes preccedence. How can I make this work, because I do not see how can I adjust order of rules on Windows Firewall.

  • 504 Gateway Timeout on server clusters

    Hi All, Here's our scenario: We're running three websites on three web servers hosted on virtual machines running the following: IIS6 Win 2003 Standard Edition Oracle 10g Sitefinity 3.7 We do not have constant control over these servers and something's gone wrong in the interim in that we're getting constant 504 Gateway Timeouts. The other thing that's happening is that if you hit one of the sites, that site is trying to pull themes from one of the sites App_Themes folder in Sitefinity, which of course should not be happening at all. If someone has any ideas on why this should suddenly have started happening I would appreciate it. Many thanks

  • Windows 2008 Server SP2 64bit - TCP Connections never releasing after TIME_WAIT

    Hello fellow admins :) We have an issue with Windows 2008 Datacenter edition SP2 64bit. We have a process that is polling very frequently and establishing new TCP connections. The system gets in a state where we end up with over 16k connections in TIME_WAIT state. The default OS timeout is 120 seconds after which these connections should go away, but that never happens. These connections persist and never get cleaned up even after the originating process has long terminated (we are still at 16k connections two days after the process was killed). The OS is supposed to time them out but it doesn't. Has anyone else seen this behavior and if so what was done to resolve it. We are aware of how to tune the tcp stack to make the timeout shorter or allow more connections but this is not the issue here. Thanks!

  • -ssadd is invalid when setting up Sessions on SQL Server 2005

    I have a dev and QA environment with SQL 2005 EE on dev and SQL 2000 on QA. On QA I run aspnet_regsql –ssadd –sstype t -E in command line and it works fine. I run the same command on dev and it returns "'-ssadd' is invalid". The working directory for both is C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727. I found some info on MSDN that said that SQL Express Edit. required a script to run before -ssadd will work, but this script didn't help me. I'm not sure where to go from here.
