• Canon Pixma 432 network scanner

  I have a problem with a Canon Pixma MX432 Printer/Scanner. I just removed Windows 7 and installed Ubuntu 14.04 8/17/2014 on an older desktop that I built (The computer is an AMD build with an ASUS motherboard). The printer/scanner is an all-in-one unit that is networked in my house via WiFi. All of the computers in my house can access this printer/scanner. My Macbook, my wife's Windows 8 laptop, and my kids mini iPads. I am giving Linux a test-drive with some success as far as setting devices up. But, for the life of me I cannot figure out my scanner issue. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Make/Model: Canon Pixma MX432 PPD Driver: I have no idea how to get this info. Supported?: no, from the information I gather from old forum posts. Works?: the printer works via WiFi perfectly, but not the scanner. The Simple Scan program sees the scanner, but produces an error when I attempt to scan. I also tried XSANE, but that program does not even detect the scanner. NOTE: THE PRINTER IS WORKING OFF OF AN UBUNTU DRIVER AND NOT A CANON DRIVER. Linux Version: Ubuntu 14.04 I tried the steps in this post, downloaded the "scangearmp-mx430series-1.90-1-deb.tar.gz" file, but could not get the scanner to work. http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-2096430.html any suggestions?

  I think that my printer stopped working with the switch to gnome 3 or unity. Yes I have tried 32 and 64 bit os's. Here is the driver In order to actually install the driver, you need to extract it and then open up terminal and type sudo and then a space. Then drag the script into the terminal window. • Using XML in a Flex Website to Improve SEO

  Hi, I've got a Flex 3 site called www.brainpinata.com that's a trivia game. Basically, everything in the site is pulled from a database-- the questions, choices, and answers. So, unfortunately, Google doesn't index my content. So, I'm trying to think of ways to improve the situation: A) If I took my database data and put it in an XML file which was in the website's root directory, would this work? Would it violate any Google policy? (The info would be the same as in the db-- so nothing shady.) Would I have to "wire" the XML into my site or would it be enough to just have the XML sitting in the root directory? B) Another idea is to use the noscript tag and load the XML content there. As I understand it Google indexes content that people who have Javascript turned off would see. I know Flex/Actionscript 3, and unfortunately, I don't know how to load XML content with HTML. Does anyone know of an example where a Flex site uses XML for the noscript content? Thank you. -Laxmidi

• Guide to the web development ecosystem

  I'm a long-time software developer, and I've been thrown in the deep, deep end of developing from the ground up what will hopefully be a highly scalable and interactive web application. I've been out of the web game for about 8 years, and even when I was last in it, I wasn't exactly on the cutting edge. I think I've made judicious design decisions and I'm quite happy with the progress I've been making so far, but new, hot web technologies keep crawling out of the woodwork and into my headspace, forcing me to continually revalidate my implementation decisions. Complicating things even further is the preponderance of out-of-date information and the difficulty of knowing what is out of date in the first place. What I'm wondering is, are there any comprehensive books or guides dedicated to compiling and comparing the technologies out there, end-to-end in the web application stack? I'm happy to learn new techs on demand, but I don't like learning about them after I've already spent time going in another direction. I'm looking for the sort of executive info a CTO might read to make sure the best architectural decisions are being made. And just to be clear, this is a question about resources, not about specific technology suggestions.

• What are my options for sharing music between Windows & Ubuntu on the same network?

  We have a few Windows(XP & 7) and Ubuntu machines in the house sharing a wireless connection, and want to share music between them. If possible, I would like to be able to serve music from both Windows and Ubuntu (but it doesn't have to be the same time). I don't know much about sharing folders or streaming, but I'm guessing both would be options (that is, using a local client to access a shared song or a local client to access a shared stream). I want to be able to share the music between the systems as simply as possible. Bonus points (but not requirements) for cross-platform -- same application on both Windows and Ubuntu? available on startup (via daemon or autostart or whatnot) open source More info: All systems have dynamic addresses (DHCP) supplied from the ISP-supplied wireless router. There are several Gigabytes of music on one Windows XP box and one Ubuntu 10.10 The music is not well-sorted (I'm thinking this might have an impact on UI usability). • Firefox 4 crashing in VNC

  On my desktop PC I've been using Kubuntu 10.04 for about a year. Recently I've updated Firefox to version 4 using aptitude and the mozilla-team/firefox-stable repository. Since then, I can't run it when I'm logged in through a VNC session. Firefox crashes immediately: when I try to run it from the console I get this error: ###!!! • Advices fo starting a video game design career

  I'm 24 and have a passion for video games and game-design. I've decided I want to design video games as my career. I have no experience with designing video games or coding but I'm interested and willing to learn. I want a job at any level but what would I need to land a job? I have no college experience and I have no money. What is a cheap school, or do I really need to go to school for this, or can I learn on my own? Is it possible to do this with no money? I'm literally broke but I want this so bad I feel like its the only career I'll enjoy. I want to call up company's and ask them what they are looking for in someone they want to hire, is that a good idea? Also I don't know the history of video game design and I don't want to sound like a dummy when someone says something about this field or talks about a famous designer and I have no idea who they're talking about. So what is key info when it comes to this field and where should I find it? Hopefully some of you guys and girls can help me out: I know in the future I will create something everyone will enjoy and you guys will remember when you gave me advice and I will always remember you guys for helping me.   I have been fiddling with this code for a few days. Mind you I am a beginner. I just want to get my script to be able to download a remote file, and scan MineCraft plugins. I got the scan plugins to work, but I'm having two other issues. • How to Export Flash Animation Data

  I'd love for my partner, the artist, to be able to animate using flash movieclips and timelines. Then I, the programmer, would like to read the raw Flash info and re-program it into my engine of choice (which happens to be Torque2D). The data I'd want is the bitmap images that were used in Flash, like the head and body the links between the images, like where the head connects to the body the motion data from the flash animation, like move, rotate (at what speed), shear, etc. for the head or arms or whatever. Is there any way to get this data? Here's what I know so far. There are tools like SWFSheet and Spriteloq that convert the entire flash animation into a frame by frame sprite animation (in a sprite sheet). This would take too much space in my case, so I'd like to avoid that. Re-animating on the fly would take much less texture memory. There is a PDF that describes the SWF file format but NOT the individual components like the movieclips. So anyone know of a library I can use, or how I can learn more about the movieclip components and whatnot? (more better tags: transform, export, convert)

• WebCenter Customer Advisory Board meetings kick off Oracle Open World 2012!

  Welcome to OpenWorld! OpenWorld 2012 got underway today with a series of meetings with the members of the WebCenter Customer Advisory Board. Led by the WebCenter Product Management team, these meetings are a great way for the product team and customers to directly interact and discuss real-life business challenges, product details and to discuss upcoming features and functionality. This year, board members participated in discussions around live demos around product enhancements that will be featured throughout the coming week. Highlights included a variety of new mobile and social solutions, a great new user interface for WebCenter Content plus new Portal and Sites functionality that makes the experience for the everyday user a lot more pleasant. The day kicked off with Roel Stalman, VP of Product Management, giving a detailed overview of what’s new in WebCenter. Given all the improvements to discuss, this session went over 2 hours! Roel showcased the brand new UI for Content, Portal and Sites. He also gave live demos of the new mobile apps for WebCenter Content, Portal and the Oracle Social Network.  The attendees then broke into sub-groups in order to deep-dive with Product Management for the Portal, Sites, and Content product areas on specific functionality and application integrations. If you are here in San Francisco this week for OpenWorld, I definitely recommend stopping by the WebCenter area in the Moscone West Exhibition Hall to see some of this new functionality for yourself. • Prevent Eclipse Java Builder from Compiling Java-Like Source

  I'm in the process of writing an eclipse plugin for my programming language Whiley (see http://whiley.org). The plugin is working reasonably well, although there's lots to do. Two pieces of the jigsaw are: I've created a "Whiley Builder" by subclassing incremental project builder. This handles building and cleaning of "*.whiley" files. I've created a content-type called "Whiley Source Files" for "*.whiley" files, which extends "org.eclipse.jdt.core.javaSource" (this follows Andrew Eisenberg suggestion). The advantage of having the content-type extend javaSource is that it immediately fits into the package explorer, etc. In principle, I could fleshout ICompilationUnit to provide more useful info, although I haven't done that yet. The disadvantage is that the Java builder is trying to compile my whiley files ... and it obviously can't. Originally, I had the Java Builder run first, then the Whiley builder. Superficially, this actually worked out quite well since all of the errors from the Java Builder were discarded by the Whiley Builder (for whiley files). However, I actually want the Whiley Builder to run first, as this is the best way for me to resolve dependencies between Java and Whiley files. Which leads me to my question: can I stop the Java builder from trying to compile certain java-like resources? Specifically, in my case, those with the "*.whiley" extension. As an alternative, I was wondering whether my Whiley Builder could somehow update the resource delta to remove those files which it has dealt with. Thoughts?
