  • Windows doesn't get access to internet though linux easily does

    We have a very interesting problem. The network is configured in this way: internet is connected to Trendnet switch TS DHCP server at 192.168.0.1 running on Ubuntu (S) is connected to internet switch DNS is also configured on 192.168.0.1 on S D-Link Wi-Fi boosters are connected to switch TS PCs use D-Link PCI-E Wi-Fi cards to get access to network PCs have both Ubuntu and Windows 7 There are about 40 PCs. When PC is booted to Ubuntu it easily gets access to internet. But when it's booted to Windows 7, it gets a valid IP-address, but doesn't get access to internet. The address, mask, DNS, GW-address are totally the same as when it's booted under Ubuntu. The S is reacheble and pingable. Sometimes when we are lucky the PC gets access to Internet, but after rebooting it can lose it. When PC under Windows has access, it has totally the same settings as when it doesn't. What can be done? UPDATE I shared a dropbox with 2 captures of traffic. Ping.pcap is a capture of pinging 8.8.8.8. And google-browser.pcap is a capture of opening a google.com in a browser, both of them are in tcpdump formats and made by Wireshark on Win PC. The MAC of Win PC ends on b7:63 and IP is 192.168.0.130.   • Routing domain over lan [closed]

    I have server on my local network which is exposed to the internet. I have domain pointed on my IP and setup forwarding. The thing i would like to do is when i access example.com from lan to connection be routed directly on my server, not to the nearest DNS. Things I had in mind were to upgrade router with dd-wrt and setup routing rule, or to setup local DNS. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with neither of those systems.

  • I have a WinXP machine with 2 ethernet ports. One is connected to a LAN, another is connected to a WAN. How do I make this work?

    I have a WinXP machine which has 2 ethernet ports. The information I've found indicates that the first nic in the advanced settings list is the one that receives all traffic. I'd like to configure them so that all traffic destined for a particular IP range goes to one nic and the rest goes to the other nic. Is that possible? If so, do I need additional software like zonealarm to shape the traffic?

  • Computer suddenly dies; screen displays weird flickering lines, then restarts

    I've been having this terrible problem for a little while and just managed to get a picture of 'dead screen' for the first time and I am posting it to seek help. Randomly, at irregular intervals (typically once a week), while working on something (it's been different things every time) my computer will just suddenly go dead - the screen turns to exactly the picture below (the lines flicker a little bit), it hangs there for a few seconds and then restarts. Obviously this is extremely frustrating and I want to try to stop it. I've searched numerous postings with similar keywords but nothing exactly the same as mine. Does anyone have any idea what might be the cause of this? I would post all my system settings and installed programs but the list is long and I don't know how much relevance each item would be. If you'd like to know something specific, please comment and I'll let you know whatever you need.   • Determine the percentage of a file that has been ftp'd from client to server

    I want to ftp a large file from a Windows client to a Windows server, using their IP addresses. This is on an internet independent network. While the file is transferring, I would like to determine how many bytes have been received by the server. I then would like to use this information to determine in real-time the percentage of the file that has been transferred to the server. Any recommendations as to the ftp command syntax and C# code to achieve this?

  • SNMP Traps: Telling the difference between sources

    I am logging all incoming SNMP traps to file, for further processing, via: snmptrapd -Lf /path/to/my/file.log So this will log all traps coming in on port 162. Is there a way I can tell the differences between different sources, i.e vendors. I believe this would be the "OID" field but i'm unsure. Any thoughts would be welcomed, if not I will just have to use a lookup with IP addresses, but I'm sure I saw that there is a unique part to each vendor. Cheers

  • Best way to segment traffic, Vlan or subnet

    We have a medium sized network of around 200 nodes and are currently in the process of replacing old daisy chained switches with stack-able or chassis style switches. Right now our network is broken up via subnet; production, management, IP, etc each on a separate subnet. Does anyone have an opinion on whether creating Vlan's instead of subnets would be more beneficial? Our general goal is to prevent bottlenecks, separate traffic for security, and to manage traffic with more ease.

  • Free, web based alternative to Visio?

    I have used Visio to map out my network structure, and have used the export function to create an HTML page that is searchable by IP, hostname etc. This is a really nice tool and I use it often. However, I would like for users who do not use Internet Explorer to be able to use the search features. What are some alternatives to Visio here? I want to draw a network diagram where objects are searchable. Thanks!

  • Why can't I access one specific website?

    I can browse all websites except codinghorror.com in any of my browsers (IE, Firefox & Chrome), but that site is not down. Chrome gives this error msg: Error 109 (net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE): Unknown error There's absolutely no problem with internet connectivity. I also enabled TCP/IP version-6 but the site just doesn't open. What could be the problem?

  • IIS7 80 port outside doesn't work

    I have created web site, added to IIS 7, in the binding set up host name as "mysite.com". (here "mysite.com" is my registered domain that points to my IP address) So when I assigned port 8095 and open site as mysite.com:8095 it succesfully opens on my local pc and outsite my network pc, but if I set up port 80 there, http://mysite.com opens only on my pc, but not in outside pc. Firewall is disabled. How to resolve that problem, please help!?
