  • SQL Server connection identification

    Hi, I have several developers which connect to production and test servers where we have DBs with similar names and structures. In SSMS there are info related to the connection, but sometimes are not properly displayed and/or hidden. I know that it is possible to customize the status bar of each connection in SSMS, but how do you ensure that your developer is connecting to the right server before he runs a query? Is there any way to handle this? THANKS!

But since they will be paying the application development, I don't want to distribute that application to the world inside the App Store in iTunes. How can I distribute this app to my customer?     I use paypal for my payments. For verification i use IPN. Can i review my INP History in the Paypal Sandbox? At the documentation i see Instant Payment Notification History in the History tab.     So I installed a trial of SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition while waiting for MSDN licenses to come through - I now want to uninstall the trial and replace it with a developer edition installation. However, I'd like to first know how long I have left on the trial. Is there a way to do this programmatically with SQL? I looked at create_date in sys.databases, but these give dates that are in 2003 (which is, I guess, when master and model were originally created).

  • TOR Proxy / Vidalia "New Identity" button not working

    I need to hide my ip from time to time. In Vidalia, I click on "New Identity". Ihen I check http://myip.ozymo.com/ to see if my IP address has changed. But, no, it hasn't. Why is that? And how can this be fixed? I tried waiting till the button gets re-enabled to make sure that its done processing the command, but still the IP address is the same. In Fiddler each request is tracked, so it's not a cached response. It's re-requested, but simply does not change. Fiddler though does show one thing interesting.   • AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE, core unlock suddenly not working?

    I've had a Phenom II X2 555 BE for around 2 - 3 years. When I got it, I immediately core unlocked it with my ECS A880GM-A3 mobo, which makes it turn into a Phenom II X4 B55. A few days ago, I installed Windows 7 64 bit to compensate for my 4 gigs of ram. When I start my system with its cores unlocked, it will restart after the BIOS screen. If I disable the core unlock, it boots to OS just fine. My question is: Does 64 bit OS makes a difference in core unlocking? Does my 3rd and 4th core burnt out? Also extra info: I tried core unlocking but keeping the 3rd and 4th core disabled and it still won't boot into OS. Could it be motherboard problems? Sorry for bad English. I will try to give additional information if needed. Thanks! Also it is worth mentioning I'm no computer expert but I tried to make my explanation as short as possible. I also asked my question on TomsHardware, but I had no answer till now so I decided to ask here too. anyone...?

    When SQL Server Books online says that "Shared (S) locks on a resource are released as soon as the read operation completes, unless the transaction isolation level is set to repeatable read or higher, or a locking hint is used to retain the shared (S) locks for the duration of the transaction." Assuming we're talking about a row-level lock, with no explicit transaction, at default isolation level (Read Committed), what does "read operation" refer to? The reading of a single row of data? The reading of a single 8k IO Page ? or until the the complete Select statement in which the lock was created has finished executing, no matter how many other rows are involved? NOTE: The reason I need to know this is we have a several second read-only select statement generated by a data layer web service, which creates page-level shared read locks, generating a deadlock due to conflicting with row-level exclusive update locks from a replication prcoess that keeps the server updated. The select statement is fairly large, with many sub-selects, and one DBA is proposing that we rewrite it to break it up into multiple smaller statements (shorter running pieces), "to cut down on how long the locks are held". As this assumes that the shared read locks are held till the complete select statement has finished, if that is wrong (if locks are released when the row, or the page is read) then that approach would have no effect whatsoever....

    Is it possible to connect to a SQL Server Express 2008 database in ASP.NET with a server name of (local) like "server=(local);integrated security=SSPI;database=DBNAME"? I'm working with another developer on a project and it's getting annoying having to have 2 different version of web.config because he is using SQL Server 2008 and (local) works, but I can't seem to get it to work with SQL Server 2008 Express locally. The database is located on the same computer as the .NET code in case that matters. Thanks.

Question is: Can I pick any piece from that IP packet and call it a string? iptables -A INPUT -m string --alog bm --string attack_string -j DROP In other words: In some cases I can ban with TTL=xxx and use that should an attack have the same TTL. Sure it will block some legit packets but if it means keeping the box up it works till the attack goes away but I would like to LEARN how to FIND other common things in a packet to block with IPTables

  • Removing HttpModule for specific path in ASP.NET / IIS 7 application?

    Most succinctly, my question is whether an ASP.NET 4.0 app running under IIS 7 integrated mode should be able to honor this portion of my Web.config file: <location path="auth/windows"> <system.webServer> <modules> <remove name="FormsAuthentication"/> </modules> </system.webServer> </location> I'm experimenting with mixed mode authentication (Windows and Forms - I know there are other questions on S.O. about the topic). Using IIS Manager, I've disabled Anonymous authentication to auth/windows/winauth.aspx, which is within the location path above. I have Failed Request Tracing set up to trace various HTTP status codes, including 302s. When I request the winauth.aspx page, a 302 HTTP status code is returned. If I look at the request trace, I can see that a 401 (unauthorized) was originally generated by the AnonymousAuthenticationModule. However, the FormsAuthenticationModule converts that to a 302, which is what the browser sees. So it seems as though my attempt to remove that module from the pipeline for pages in that path isn't working. But I'm not seeing any complaints anywhere (event viewer, yellow pages of death, etc.) that would indicate it's an invalid configuration. I want the 401 returned to the browser, which presumably would include an appropriate WWW-Authenticate header. A couple of other points: a) I do have <authentication mode="Forms"> in my Web.config, and that is what the 302 redirects to; b) I got the "name" of the module I'm trying to remove from the inetserv\config\applicationHost.config file. Anyone had any luck removing modules in this fashion? Thanks much, Donnie
