• How to achieve high availability?

  My boss wants to have a system that takes into concern of continent wide catastrophic event. He wants to have two servers in US and two servers in Asia (1 login server and 1 worker server in each continent). In the event that earthquake breaks the connection between the two continents, both should work alone. When the connection is revived, they should sync each other back to normal. External cloud system not allowed as he has no confidence. The system should take into account of scalability which means addition of new servers should be easy to configure. The servers should be load balanced. The connection between the servers should be very secure(encrypted and send through SSL although SSL takes care of encryption). The system should let one and only one user log in with one account. (beware of latency between continent and two users sharing account may reach both login server at the same time) Please help. I'm already at the end of my wit. Thank you in advance.

• General JDBC Setup

  So I have a MySQL database set up on a Debian server and it works fine from a phpMyAdmin client. I'm currently working on a project to write a Java server that would be able to use the MySQL database that is already on this server through a JDBC connection. I've looked at many tutorials and documentations but all of them seem to just explain how to do client-side code, but I have yet to figure out how to even successfully open a JDBC connection to the server. As far as I am concerned, I believe that program has the drivers properly set up because it's not crashing anymore (I simply direct the Java Build Path of my program to the Connector/J provided by MySQL). Started! Driver registered. Connecting... It's as if the DriverManager.getConnection(String) just freezes there. I'm sure this is a problem with the server because when I intentionally misspell localhost, or an IP address, the program crashes within 20 seconds. This just hangs there forever. Sorry about this wall of text, but my final question is if anyone has any information what I should do or install on the server to get this to work? Thank you so much!

  I have a console app containing an application configuration file containing one connection string as shown below: <configuration> <connectionStrings> <add name="Target" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; Database=MYDB; Integrated Security=SSPI;" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> When I pass this to my Connection using: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[1].ToString() I have two values in there, hence using the second in the collection, my question is where is this second coming from? I have checked the Bin version and original and its not mine! Its obviously a system generated one but I have not seen this before? Can anyone enlighten me? The mystery connection string is: data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true This isn't a problem as such I would just like to know why this is occuring? Thanks in advance! For future reference to those who may or may not stumble on this, after discovering the machine.config its become apparent it is bad practice to refer to a config by its index as each stack will potentially be different, which is why "Keys" are used. • Entity Framework 4 and SQL Compact 4: How to generate database?

  I am developing an app with Entity Framework 4 and SQL Compact 4, using a Model First approach. I have created my EDM, and now I want to generate a SQL Compact 4.0 database to act as a data store for the model. I bring up the Generate Database Wizard and click the New Connection button to create a connection for the generated file. The Choose Data Source dialog appears, but SQL Compact 4.0 is not listed in the list of available data sources: I am running VS 2010 SP1 (beta) and I have installed the VS 2010 Tools for SQL Compact 4.0. I can create a SQL Compact 4.0 data connection from the Server Explorer. It is only in the Generate Database Wizard that the 4.0 option doesn't appear. BTW, my SQL Compact 4.0 installation does include System.Data.SqlServerCe.Entity.dll. So I should have the SQL Compact components I need. Am I doing something incorrectly, or is this a bug? Does anyone have a fix or a workaround? Thanks for your help.

• Php script running as scheduled task hangs - help!

  Hi guys, I've built a php script that runs from the command line. It opens a connection into a pop3 email account and downloads all the emails and writes them to a database, and deletes them once downloaded. I have this script being called from the commandline by a bat file. in turn I have created a scheduled task which invokes the bat file every 5 minutes. The thing is that I have set the time out to zero for the fact that at times there could be emails with large attachments and the script actually downloads the attachments and stores them as raw files offline and the no timeout is so that the script doesnt die out during downloading. I've found that the program hangs sometimes and its a bit annoying at that - it always hangs are one point i.e. when negotiating the connection and getting connected to the mail server. And because the timeout is set to zero it seems to stay stuck up in taht position. And because of that the task is not run as its technically hung up. I want that the program should not timeout when downloading emails - however at the points where it is negotiating a connection or trying to connect to the mailserver there should be a timeout only at that point itself and not the rest of the program execution. How do I do this :(

• Socket Read In Multi-Threaded Application Returns Zero Bytes or EINTR (-1)

  Hi. Am a c-coder for a while now - neither a newbie nor an expert. Now, I have a certain daemoned application in C on a PPC Linux. I use PHP's socket_connect as a client to connect to this service locally. The server uses epoll for concurrent connections via a Unix socket. A user submitted string is parsed for certain characters/words using strstr() and if found, spawns 4 joinable threads to different websites simultaneously. I use socket, connect, write and read, to interact with the said webservers via TCP on port 80 in each thread. All connections and writes seems successful. Reads to the webserver sockets fail however, with either (A) all 3 threads seem to hang, and only one thread returns -1 and errno is set to 104. The responding thread takes like 10 minutes - an eternity long:-(. *I read somewhere that the 104 (is EINTR) suggests that ...'the connection was reset by peer', or (B) 0 bytes from 3 threads, and only 1 of the 4 threads actually returns some data. Isn't the socket read/write thread-safe? Otherwise, use thread-safe (and reentrant) libc functions such as strtok_r, gethostbyname_r, etc. *I doubt that the said webhosts are actually resetting the connection, because when I run a single-threaded standalone (everything else equal) all things works perfectly right. There's a second problem too (oops), I can't write back to the client who connect to my epoll-ed Unix socket. My daemon application will hang and hog CPU 100% for ever. Yet nothing is written to the clients end. Am sure the client (a very typical PHP socket application) hasn't closed the connection whenever this is happening - no error(s) detected either. I cannot figure-out whatever is wrong even with Valgrind or GDB

• SSH with Perl using file handles, not Net::SSH

  Before I ask the question: I can not use cpan module Net::SSH, I want to but can not, no amount of begging will change this fact I need to be able to open an SSH connection, keep it open, and read from it's stdout and write to its stdin. My approach thus far has been to open it in a pipe, but I have not been able to advance past this, it dies straight away. That's what I have in mind, I understand this causes a fork to occur. I've written code accordingly for this fork (or so I think). Basically, I need a file handle to an open ssh connection where I can read from it the output and write to it input (not necessarily straight from my program's STDIN, anything I want, variables, yada yada) This includes password input. I know about key pairs, part of the end goal involves making key pairs, but the connection needs to happen regardless of their existence, and if they do not exist it's part of my plan to make them exist.

• Android Bluetooth Cross Platform Interoperability

  Hi, I have a Bluetooth service that I programmed for .Net on a Windows machine and I would like my Android 2.1 phone to connect to it. The server is listening for the same UUID which the Android is using to connect. But the connection is failing. When I try to connect to devices that are not listening for that UUID, I get an exception with the message "Service discovery failed", but when I try to connect to the server that is listening for the right UUID a message box pops up saying: "There was a problem pairing with bluetooth device." And I get an exception with the message "Connection timed out." So it looks like the server and the Android are communicating, but there is some sort of failure during handshaking. I know that the Android requires that the server is paired with the phone and also encrypts the communication channel. Does anyone know which specifications are used to do this? I would love to get my server to respond properly to the connection attempt. Thanks!

• ASP.NET MVC 2 user input to SQL 2008 Database problems

  After my publish in VS2010 the entire website loads and pulls data from the database perfectly. I can even create new users through the site with the correct key code, given out to who needs access. I have two connection strings in my web.config file The first: <add xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(name)" name="EveModelContainer" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.csdl|res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.ssdl|res://*/Models.EdmModel.EveModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string=&quot;Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=fleet;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=fleet;Password=****&quot;" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" /> The second: <add xdt:Transform="SetAttributes" xdt:Locator="Match(name)" name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=fleet;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=fleet;Password=****;MultipleActiveResultSets=True" /> The first one is the one that is needed to post data with the main application, EveModelContainer. Everything else is pulled using the standard ApplicationServices connection. Do you see anything wrong with my connectionstring? I'm at a complete loss here. The site works perfectly on my friends server and not on mine... Could it be a provider issue? And if I go to iis 7's manager console, and click .net users I get a pop up message saying the custom provider isn't a trusted provider do I want to allow it to run at a higher trust level. I'm at the point where I think its either my string or this trusted provider error... but I have no clue how to add to the trusted provider list... Thank you in advance!!!

• why does cx_oracle execute() not like my string now?

  I've downloaded cx_oracle some time ago and wrote a script to convert data to XML. I've had to reisntall my OS and grabbed the latest version of cx_Oracle (5.0.3) and all of the sudden my code is broken. The first thing was that cx_Oracle.connect wanted unicode rather string for the username and password, that was very easy to fix. But now it keeps failing on the cursor.execute and tells me my string is not a string even when type() tells me it is a string. Here is a test script I initally used ages ago and worked fine on my old version but does not work on cx_Oracle now. import cx_Oracle ip = 'url.to.oracle' port = 1521 SID = 'mysid' dsn_tns = cx_Oracle.makedsn(ip, port, SID) connection = cx_Oracle.connect(u'name', u'pass', dsn_tns) cursor = connection.cursor() cursor.arraysize = 50 sql = "select isbn, title_code from core_isbn where rownum<=20" print type(sql) cursor.execute(sql) for isbn, title_code in cursor.fetchall(): print "Values from DB:", isbn, title_code cursor.close() connection.close() When I run that I get: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\NetBeansProjects\Python\src\db_temp.py", line 48, in cursor.execute(sql) TypeError: expecting None or a string Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

• Inserting variables into a query string - it won't work!

  Basically i have a query string that when i hardcode in the catalogue value its fine. when I try adding it via a variable it just doesn't pick it up. • Multithreaded Delegates/Events

  I am trying to disable parts of the UI in a .NET app based on polling done on a background thread. The background thread checks to see if the global database connection the app uses is still open and operable. What I need to do, and would prefer to do it without polling on the UI thread, is to add an event handler that can be raised by the background thread if the connection status changes. That way, any form can have a handler that will disable those parts of the UI that require the connection to function. Attempting to use a straight event declaration in the class that holds the thread sub, and raising the event in the background thread causing cross-thread execution errors regarding accessing UI controls from other threads. Obviously, there is a correct way to do this, but we have limited experience with events (single threaded apps mainly), and almost none with delegates. I've read through documentation and examples for delegates, and it seems to be closer to what we need, but I'm not sure how to make it work in this instance. The app is written mainly in VB.NET, but an example or help in C# is fine too.

  I want start programming for android.. What I have: -Windows 7 -Eclipse Classic 4.2 -Downloaded all there required files - http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/adding-packages.html -ADT Plugin I want install new ADT plugin.. at first I tried to download it from http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse, I add it, but if i selected it there is only "pending.." and nothing has load..(maybe internet connection?I have selected Native connection in preferences after pending it wrotes: Unable to connect to repository http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/content.xml org.eclipse.equinox.p2.core.ProvidesException ) Thats why I download ADT plugin. So if I select downloaded ADT plugin - content of it load - developer tools and ndk plugin so I select all and click next. It loads and writes this: "Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: Android Development Tools 20.0.3.v201208082019-427395 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 20.0.3.v201208082019-427395) Missing requirement: Android Development Tools 20.0.3.v201208082019-427395 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 20.0.3.v201208082019-427395) requires 'org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0' but it could not be found" requires 'org.eclipse.wst.sse.core 0.0.0 this problem is shown here: http://developer.android.com/resources/faq/troubleshooting.html#installeclipsecomponents but there is solution only for version 3.3 and 3.4 (I have 4.2) anyway but I tried it- I look for updates but nothing were found I really dont know where could be problem..   Hello Is there any way of using JSF2.0 in connection with variable lists of components? For example, lets say I have list o people that I would like to edit. They are presented on the page as list of components PersonEditor, which allow changing person data. Each editor is associated with single Person element. In order for this to work I need to perform following steps: On initial request: Get list of people For each person create PersonEditor and associate it with Person object. Fill editor's data. On user action: When user changes values and presses Save, data is processed by backing bean. I can either fill editor with data from list of people or bind it to the backing bean, but not at the same time, so I am stuck. I tried people.xhtml <ui:render value="#{bean.people}" var="person"> <example:personEditor person="#{person}"/> </ui:render> where personEditor.xhtml: a) proper association with person object, but no connection to backing bean <h:form> <h:outputText value="#{cc.attr.person.name}"/> <h:commandButton name="Save" actionListener="editorBean.save"> <f:ajax execute="@form" render="@form"/> </h:commandButton> </h:form> b) no association with person object, but there is connection to backing bean - there is no way to pass that person to the backing bean <h:form> <h:outputText value="#{editorBean.name}"/> <h:commandButton name="Save" actionListener="editorBean.save"> <f:ajax execute="@form" render="@form"/> </h:commandButton> </h:form> If I had each editor on separate page, I could pass the person id as url parameter (either using f:param or f:attribute) and initialize it accordingly. • authorise user from mysql database

  I suck at php, and cant find the error here. The script gets 2 variables "username" and "password" from a html from then check them against a MySQL databse.
