• How do I consume a self hosted WCF service with Compact Framework client?

  Hello - I've been trying to figure out how to consume a self hosted WCF service from a Windows CE device. I've not found any good resources that walk through this process online. I've found some good samples for self hosting, and that part seems to be working fine, but not sure how to go about consuming on the compact framework. In the past I was able to use NetCFSvcUtil.exe, but this doesn't seem to work with a self hosted service. NetCFSvcutil says: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. I've used Jason Henderson's sample http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WCF/WCFexample.aspx to get started with self hosting and that part works as expected. Can any one point me to a sample where a compact framework client is used to consume a self hosted WCF service? or give a brief explanation of how I create the plumbing on the compact framework side? For the host application I'm using a WinForm .Net 3.5 project and for the client a WinForm Compact Framework 3.5 project. Thanks!

• .NET TCP Client/Server communication issue

  What I'm currently trying to do is make a very basic webchat for irc using silverlight. Basically how I'm trying to do it is have a tcp server listening for connections from silverlight. When a client connects it creates a new connection to irc and data is passed to/from the client/irc via the server application. I've gotten it to work fine for one client connection, but as soon as two (or more) clients connect multiple connections are made to irc but all data passed from the clients just goes through the latest irc connection (if that makes sense). For example Client1, Client2 and Client3 are all connected to irc, but no matter who sends data it all comes through Client3. Between the client and server app it recognizes the data coming in from different clients so i believe the problems lies within the way I've connected to the irc. When the TCP server accepts a new client a new thread is made to listen to incoming data, and from there a new thread is made to connect to irc. I'm sure thats where the problem exists, but I've confused myself a lot now and am wondering if anyone can help me figure out a solution. EDIT: What I think is the problem, is that it can't distinguish which thread the specific client is using, so it just sends it via the latest one. Can this even be done?

  hello all i'm having a bear of a time getting visual studio 2010 (ultimate i think) to properly attach to my database. it was moved from original spot to #MYAPP#/#MYAPP#.Web/App_Data/#MDF_FILE#.mdf. I have three instances of sql server running on this machine. i have tried to replace the old mdf file with my new one and cannot get the connectionstring right for it. what i'm really wanting to do is to just open some DB instance, run a DB create script. Then I can have a DB that was generated via my edmx (generate database from model) in silverlight business application (c#) right now, when i go to server explorer in VS, choose add new connection, choose MS SQL Server Database FIle (SqlClient), choose my file location (app_data directory), use windows authentication, and hit the Test Connection button I get the following error: Unable to open the physical file "". Operating system error 5: "5(Access Denied.)". An attempt to attach to an auto-named database for file"" failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. The mdf file was created on the same machine by connecting to (local) on the sql server management studio, getting a new query, pasting in the SQL from the generated ddl file, adding a CREATE DATABASE [NcrCarDatabase]; GO before the pasted SQL, and executing the query. I then disconnected from the DB in management studio, closed management studio, navigated to the DATA directory for that instance, and copying the mdf and ldf files to my application's app_data folder. I am then trying to connect to the same file inside visual studio. I hope that gives more clarity to my problems :). Connection string is: Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\SourceCode\NcrCarDatabase\NcrCarDatabase.Web\App_Data\NcrCarDatabase.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True

• What technologies/tools do people use to implement live websites ?

  Hi, I have the following situation: -I have a server A hooked up to a piece of hardware that sends values and information out of every second. Programs on the server machine can read these values. This server A is in a very remote location so Internet connection is very slow and not reliable but the connection does exist. Let's say it's a weather station in the Arctic. -Users from the home location want to monitorize the weather values somehow. Well, the users can use a remote desktop connection the server A but that would be too too slow. My idea is somehow to have a website on a web server (let's call the webserver - B and B is in a home location ) and make the server A connect to the server B and somehow send values and the web application reads the values and displays them....... but how to do such a system ?? I know I can use MySQL and have the server A connect to a SQL server on server B and send INSERT queries and have the web application running on server B constantly read from the SQL server but I think that would be way way too slow and I think there has to be a better solution. Any ideas ? BTW. The users should be able to send information to the weather station from the website as well ( so an ADMIN user should be allowed to shut down the weather station from the website or whatever) Best regards, MadSeb

I think i wanted to know how to create tables or know if the syntax is the same from winform to ASP.NET I am very use to sqlite http://sqlite.phxsoftware.com/ and would like to create a DB in a similar style. • Send file FTP over SSL with custom port number

  I have asked the question before but in a different manner. I am trying taking form data, compiling into a temporary CSV file and trying to send over to a client via FTP over SSL (this is the only route I am interested in hearing solutions for unless there is a workaround to doing this, I cannot make changes). I have tried the following: ftp_connect - nothing happens, the page just times out ftp_ssl_connect - nothing happens, the page just times out curl library - same thing, given URL it also gives error. • Windows 7 ipv4 autoconfiguration - cannot connect to internet

  I get my internet connection from a guy (lets call him my service provider henceforth). He gives internet connections to many students here in my hostel. My PC gets a private IP through his DHCP server. Now, when I switch on my WiFi, my PC gets a private IP as it should and I can connect to the internet just fine. But now when I connect my LAN cable, my PC gets some "Autoconfiguration IPv4 address" 169.254.110.154(Preferred) and I cannot connect to the internet. • php + MySQL editing table data.

  This question is relating to 2 php scripts. The first script is called pick_modcontact.php where I choose a contact (from a contact book like phone book), then posts to the script show_modcontact.php When I click the submit button on the form on pick.modcontact.php. As a result of submitting the form I am then taken to show_modcontact.php. As the variables are not present the user is directed back to pick_modcontact.php I can not work out how to correct the code so that it will show the results of the script show_modcontact.php This script shows all contacts in a database which is an "address book" this part works fine. please see below. • PHP Check slave status without mysql_connect timeout issues

  I have a web-app that has a master mysql db and four slave dbs. I want to handle all (or almost all) read-only (SELECT) queries from the slaves. Our load-balancer sends the user to one of the slave machines automatically, since they are also running Apache/PHP and serving webpages. I am using an include file to setup the connection to the databases, such as: //for master server (i.e. - UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE statements) $Host = "10.0.0.x"; $User = "xx"; $Password = "xx"; $Link = mysql_connect( $Host, $User, $Password ); if( !$Link ) ) { die( "Master database is currently unavailable. Please try again later." ); } //this connection can be used for READ-ONLY (i.e. - SELECT statements) on the localhost $Host_Local = "localhost"; $User_Local = "xx"; $Password_Local = "xx"; $Link_Local = mysql_connect( $Host_Local, $User_Local, $Password_Local ); //fail back to master if slave db is down if( !$Link_Local ) ) { $Link_Local = mysql_connect( $Host, $User, $Password ); } I then use $Link for all update queries and $Link_Local as the connection for SELECT statements. Everything works fine until the slave server database goes down. If the local db is down, the $Link_Local = mysql_connect() call takes at least 30 seconds before it gives up on trying to connect to the localhost and returns back to the script. This causes a huge backlog of page serves and basically shuts down the system (due to the extremely slow response time). Does anyone know of a better way to handle connections to slave servers via PHP? Or, is there some kind of timeout function that could be used to stop the mysql_connect call after 2-3 seconds? Thanks for the help. I searched the other mysql_connect threads, but didn't see any that addressed this issue.

  This is interesting (to me anyway), and I'd like to see if anyone has a good answer and explanation for this behavior. Say you have a singleton database object (or static database object), and you have it stored in a class Foo. public class Foo { public static SqlConnection DBConn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["BAR"].ConnectionString); } Then, lets say that you are cognizant of the usefulness of calling and disposing your connection (pretend for this example that its a one-time use for purposes of illustration). So you decide to use a 'using' block to take care of the Dispose() call. using (SqlConnection conn = Foo.DBConn) { conn.Open(); using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand()) { cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.CommandText = "SP_YOUR_PROC"; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } conn.Close(); } This fails, with an error stating that the "ConnectionString property is not initialized". It's not an issue with pulling the connection string from the app.config/web.config. When you investigate in a debug session you see that Foo.DBConn is not null, but contains empty properties. Why is this?

• New to JEE; architecture suggestions for a service/daemon?

  I am brand new to the JEE world. As an exercise to try and familiarize myself with JEE, I'm trying to create a tiered web-app, but I'm getting a little stuck on what the best way is to spin up a service in the background that does work. Parameters of the service: It must open and hold a socket connection and receive information from the connected server. There is a 1-to-1 correlation between a user and a new socket connection. So the idea is the user presses a button on the web-page, and somewhere on the server a socket connection is opened. For the remainder of the users session (or until the user presses some sort of disconnect button) the socket remains open and pushes received information to some sort of centralized store that servlets can query and return to the user via AJAX. Is there a JEE type way to handle this situation? Naturally what I would think to do is to just write a Java application that listens on a port that the servlets can connect to and spawns new threads that open these sockets, but that seems very ad-hoc to me. (PS: I am also new to Stack Overflow, so forgive me if it takes me some time to figure the site out!)

  hi, i want to implement a simple ssl web proxy. i do not want to work with the network connection problems. so i think i can utilize a web server (like apache) to help me establish the connection, and my program works like a cgi app on the web server to redirect the web browser request. below is how i want to implement it: client make http/https requests to the target web site, and setting to use my http/https proxy; apache get the request, and use a rewrite rule to redirect the to my cgi app; my app parse the request and make request to the real web site; my app get the response from the real web site, then send the response back to the client; currently, http requests seem to work. but https requests do not work at all. i tried to use curl to make a request to a https web site through my proxy, and the result is CONNECTION FAILED. my question is, will my idea work? if yes, how to make the https requests work.

• c# creating a database query METHOD

  I'm not sure if im delluded but what I would like to do is create a method that will return the results of a query, so that i can reuse the connection code. As i understand it, a query returns an object but how do i pass that object back? I want to send the query into the method as a string argument, and have it return the results so that I can use them. Here's what i have which was a stab in the dark, it obviously doesn't work. This example is me trying to populate a listbox with the results of a query; the sheet name is Employees and the field/column is name.   Hi, I have copied a DB from one my computers and using it here. On trying to open the page which requires the fetching content from DB, on con.open I am getting this exception: Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp_log.LDF". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Cannot open database "cakephp" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'Sarin-PC\Sarin'. I have attached the database from Management Studio Express 2008 and I have also checcked the connection string.   If we were to use server1 for all files (file server), server2 for mysql database (database server). In order for websites in server1 to access to the database in server2, isn't it needed to connect to to ip address of second (mysql server) ? In this case, is remote mysql connection. However, I seen from some people comment on the security issue. remote access to MySQL is not very secure. When your remote computer first connects to your MySQL database, the password is encrypted before being transmitted over the Internet. But after that, all data is passed as unencrypted "plain text". If someone was able to view your connection data (such as a "hacker" capturing data from an unencrypted WiFi connection you're using), that person would be able to view part or all of your database. So I just wondering ways to secure it? Allow remote mysql access from server1 by allowing the static ip adress allow remote access from server 1 by setting port allowed to connect to 3306 change 3306 to other port? Any advice?

• [PHP] MySql Proccesslist filled with "Sleep" Entries leading to "To many Connections" ?

  Hi, i'd like to ask your help on a longstanding issue with php/mysql connections. Every time i execute a "SHOW PROCESSLIST" command it shows me about 400 idle (Status: Sleep) connections to the database Server emerging from our 5 Webservers. That never was much of a problem (and i didn't find a quick solution) until recently traffic numbers increased and since then MySql reports the "to many connections" Problems repeatedly, even so 350+ of those connections are in "sleep" state. Also a server can't get a mysql connection even if there are sleeping connection to that same server. All those connections vanish when a apache server is restated. The PHP Code used to create the Database connections uses the normal "mysql" Module, the "mysqli" Module, PEAR::DB and Zend Framework Db Adapter. (Different projects). NONE of the projects uses persistent connections. Raising the connection-limit is possible but doesn't seem like a good solution since it's 450 now and there are only 20-100 "real" connections at a time anyways. My question: Why are there so many connections in sleep state and how can i prevent that. Thank you for your time, if theres anything unclear or missing please let me know

• Accepting a socket on Windows 7 takes more than a second

  Here's what I've done: I wrote a minimal web server (using Qt, but I don't think it's relevant here). I'm running it on a legal Windows 7 32-bit. The problem: If I make a request with Firefox, IE, Chrome or Safari it takes takes about one second before my server sees that there is a new connection to be accepted. Clues: Using other clients (wget, own test client that just opens a socket) than Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari seeing the new connection is matter of milliseconds. I installed Apache and tried the clients mentioned above. Serving the request takes ~50ms as expected. The problem isn't reproducible when running Windows XP (or compiling and running the same code under Linux) The problem seems to present itself only when connecting to localhost. A friend connected over the Internet and serving the connection was a matter of milliseconds. Running the server in different ports has no effect on the 1 second latency Here's what I've tried without luck: Stopped the Windows Defender service Stopped the Windows Firewall service Any ideas? Is this some clever 'security feature' in Windows 7? Why isn't Apache affected? Why are only the browsers affected?

  I have an application that requires we use distinct user connection strings per user. We are trying to upgrade from SubSonic 2.x to 3.0. I'm running into issues with trying to create a List< of objects. When I try to create a List like this: List<table_name> oList = table_name.All().Where(tn => tn.table_id == TableId).ToList(); I get the error "Connection string 'ConnectionStringName' does not exist." So, I try to create the List< like this: List<table_name> oList = table_name.All(sConnectionString, "System.Data.SqlClient").Where(tn => tn.table_id == TableId).ToList(); I get the error "The name 'table_name' does not exist in the current context." I'm using SQL Server, and the sConnectionString is definitely verified to be a good connection string, and the table_name is a table in the database. What am I doing wrong?
