• What's the easiest way to get the result of an HTTP GET request in using URL in JRuby

  I'm attempting to build a Tropo Ruby application and I need to retrieve the result of an HTTPS GET. The Tropo platform doesn't have the httpclient Ruby gem so I can't use that. The Ruby engine used is JRuby so a suggestion has been to make use of the Java URL class to do the request. I've played around with it a little bit and I seem to be able to create the URL object ok but am now struggling with how to get the results of executing the request. • Review Board workflow for Mercurial repository

  At my company we are trying to add code reviewing practices into our development process and for that purpose we decided to use Review Board. While Review Board should work out of the box for Subversion the workflow for Mercurial looks a little bit involved. Firstly it seems that only post reviewing(via post-review script) is supported for this type of repo. Secondly documentation is unclear whether post-review actually supports Mercurial(it only mentions git). Could you folks describe your workflow in detail please? Am I right in my thinking it should be something like this: Developer: clone master repo clone feature repo from local master repo hack-hack in feature repo commit into feature repo somehow run post-review from feature repo against parent master repo Reviewer: review diff if OK then pull to the master repo from the feature repo

  Hi there, a little while ago i was reading an article about a series of class that were created that handled the conversion of strings into a generic type. Below is a mock class structure. • Wordpress Post # of #

  I'm looking for an easy way to assign a post number to each post in wordpress and display it out of the total number of posts. A little info: There will be about 100 "posts", each on its own page I want users to click through each post, so start at post 1 and click "next post" to get to post 2 I want it to say post 4/100 at the top for each post I want the URL to have the post name in it I was going to use WP-PageNavi and set each page to display 1 post, however I need the url to show /post-name/ and not /page/2/ I know I can count total number of posts pretty easily, any idea how I can assign a number to each post without having to do it manually? I'd like to sort by date added.

• How do i use findAll method with a class in Doctrine?

  Hi, I am a little bit confused with Doctrine class. I created a class and its base class in Doctrine. The class's name is User. so..I created an object of class User. $oUser = new User(); when I try to use findAll method, it does not work. I found the following code on the doctrine documentation. Doctrine_Core::getTable('User')-findAll(); I don't understand why i need to call getTable to use findAll method when I have User class. Am I missing something?

• XIB-instantiated Object's IBOutlet is nil

  I have a XIB set up like in this screenshot: File's owner is my main window controller. The XIB is also in charge of creating an object that serves as the delegate for the MGScopeBar view. As you can see in the screenshot, the scope bar delegate has an IBOutlet for the search field so that it can return it as an extra view as part of the delegate process. The problem I'm having is that when the delegate object is queried for the accessory view, the IBOutlet NSSearchField is nil. I'm fairly certain this has something to do with the order that objects are created, IBOutlets wired, etc, but I'm just a little lost as to where in the process I can expect the search field to exist so that the scope bar delegate can reference it properly. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

• Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

  I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.

• Is there a way to construct HTML/CSS in an HTML email such that if image X does not load, text Y will appear?

  I'm looking for something a little more sophisticated than the alt="Newsletter Heading text" attribute of <img> tag. So if the Masthead.png image doesn't load for whatever reason, I want the display text, say Font: 60px Helvetica Neue Black, Helvetica, ..., Sans Serif text-align: center to appear in the middle of the table cell that is my masthead instead of just the alt text in some small default font in top right corner. One idea I had was to use to put the image on-top of the text display but I don't know if z-depth is something I can use in email HTML(?4)?

• vlc python bindings - how to receive keyboard input?

  I'm trying to use VLC's python bindings to create my own little video player. The demo implementation is quite simple and nice, but it requires all the keyboard commands to be typed into the console from which the script was run. Is there any way I can handle keyboard input also when the video player itself has focus? Specifically, I care about controlling the video while in fullscreen mode. Perhaps there's a way to keep the keyboard focus in the console (or maybe another window) while showing the video? I'm using Windows XP, if that has any relevance.

  Hi, does anyone have any thoughts on what would be considered good technicaly interviews for new php programmers. Im not meaning the little questions that are intended to know language specific intricacies but more on larger interview questions that potential employees may take an hour or 2 to solve in their own time and then come back with. Specifically im looking at PHP and object orientated but are there any ideas on suitable problems that a php programmer should be able to solve within a couple of hours? I am thinking that I want to have demonstrated object orientated techniques and also unit testing capabilities but as for that it can be anything.

• C# How to Present Such Question?

  greetings! i have a C# game program that im developing. it uses sound samples and winsock. when i test run the game most of the audio works fine but from time to time if it is multiple samples being played sequentially the application form shakes a little bit and then goes back to its old position. how do i go about debugging this or present it to you folks in a manageable manner? im sure no one is going to want the whole app code in fear of virus attacks. please guide me.. thanking you. EDIT: i have not been able to pin down any code section that produces this result. it just does and i cannot explain it. EDIT: no the x/y position are not changing. the window like shakes around a few pixels and then goes back to the position were it was before the shake.

• Starting Tornado Web

  Hi, I'm quite new to using Tornado Web as a web server, and am having a little difficulty keeping it running. I normally use Django and Nginx, and am used to start/stop/restarting the server. However with Tornado I'm having trouble telling it to "run" without directly executing my main python file for the site, ie "python ~/path/to/server.py". I'm sure I'm getting this completely wrong - is there a way of 'bootstrapping' my script so that when Nginx starts, Tornado starts? Any help would be appreciated!

• Hadoop or Hadoop Streaming for MapReduce on AWS

  I'm about to start a mapreduce project which will run on AWS and I am presented with a choice, to either use Java or C++. I understand that writing the project in Java would make more functionality available to me, however C++ could pull it off too, through Hadoop Streaming. Mind you, I have little background in either language. A similar project has been done in C++ and the code is available to me. So my question: is this extra functionality available through AWS or is it only relevant if you have more control over the cloud? Is there anything else I should bear in mind in order to make a decision, like availability of plugins for hadoop that work better with one language or the other? Thanks in advance

According to the android google maps API v2: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android/views the way to set a specific zoom value is "CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(float)" and the same api https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/android/reference/com/google/android/gms/maps/CameraUpdateFactory#zoomTo(float) tells that the minimum argument to this function is 2. but when I call the function: mMap.moveCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.zoomTo(2)); The viewport of the world map is just a little bigger than Australia... • Using Java to retrieve the CPU Usage for Window's Processes

  Hello all, I am looking for a Java solution to finding the CPU usage for a running process in Windows. After looking around the web, there seems to be little information on a solution in Java. Keep in mind, I am not looking to find the CPU usage for the JVM, but any process running in Windows at the time. I am able to retrieve the memory usage in Java by using the exec("tasklist.exe ... ") to retrieve and parse process information. Although there is an aggregate CPU cycle timer for each process, I do not see a CPU usage column. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if possible, I would like to stay away from C libraries; however, if there is no other alternative, a solution by that means would be appropriate. Thanks a lot, Steve

I have since been hired full-time and I have been with the company a little over 3 years now. How many years of work experience do I have? Background info: There is a significant income disparity between someone with 1 year of experience vs 3 years (as per salary.com).   Hello again. I'm in the process of designing and testing various ideas for an application whose main functionality will be to notify users of occurring events and offer them with a choice of actions for each. The standard choice would be to create a queue of events showing a popup in the taskbar with the events and actions, but I want this tool to be the less intrusive and disrupting as possible. What I'm after is a good book or papers on studies of how to maximize user productivity in these intrinsically disruptive scenarios (in other words, how to achieve the perfect degree of annoying-ness, not too much, not too little). The user is supposedly interested in these events, they subscribe to them and can choose the actions to perform on each. I prefer books and papers, but the usual StackOverflow wisdom is appreciated as well. I'm after things like: Don't use popups, use instead X Show popups at most 3 seconds Show them in the left corner Use color X because it improves readability and disrupts less That is, cognitive aspects of GUI design that would help users in such a scenario.

  I need to perform lots of evaluations of the form X(:,i)' * A * X(:,i) i = 1...n where X(:,i) is a vector and A is a symmetric matrix. Ostensibly, I can either do this in a loop for i=1:n z(i) = X(:,i)' * A * X(:,i) end which is slow, or vectorise it as z = diag(X' * A * X) which wastes RAM unacceptably when X has a lot of columns. Currently I am compromising on Y = A * X for i=1:n z(i) = Y(:,i)' * X(:,i) end which is a little faster/lighter but still seems unsatisfactory. I was hoping there might be some matlab/scilab idiom or trick to achieve this result more efficiently?

• RockBand-like voice app for PC/OSX / Real time pitch display software

  I played Rock Band 2 for the first time a little while ago (at Notacon). One thing I enjoyed about it was getting real-time feedback about my singing. I think it'd be neat to have something like that to run alongside my usual music, so that I can sing to random stuff in my music collection and know when I'm hitting the notes. Is there something like this for PC - ideally for OSX, and ideally that can just operate on arbitrary songs? I don't really care if it's game-like (though that's neat too); I just want it for the singing feedback. And I have no need for pitch correction - ideally what I'd see is just the pitches of the notes in the music and (on the same scale, differently displayed) of the live microphone. I tried to STFW but got no salient hits. :-/ Thanks!

I've tryed with: dest = (__m256i)_mm256_shuffle_ps((__m256)source, (__m256)source, _MM_SHUFFLE(0,3,2,1)); but what I get is: || A0 || A2 || A3 || A4 || A5 || A6 || A7 || A1 || Any Idea on how to solve this in an efficient way?   I just started working with C & Xcode and I've run into a little difficulty. All I want to do is read a file from the command line and see the output in the terminal. I think my problem lies with the path to the file that I want to read in. I'm using a Mac and the file is on my desktop, so the path should be Users/myName/Desktop/words.txt. Is this correct? • Personal project in Java

  My first project in java is going to be a program (eventually I have to create a GUI interface but for now CLI would do) to keep track of my books (something similar to what libraries have only a simpler). I need to be able to insert, update, remove, show all books, update, search(by name or author or date). For the design I was thinking one main class Library which will have all of the above as methods that connect to the db and retrieve the data. Is this approach ok? I realize it's simple but it's my first real project and I would appreciate a little feedback. Also, is it too soon to consider reading up on design patterns and database design ?

• Scaled live iPhone Camera view in center, "CGAffineTransformTranslate" not working

  Hi, I have a little problem which I could not solve. I really hope someone can help me with that. I wanted to resize the live camera view and place it in the center, using the following code below: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(picker.cameraViewTransform, 0.5, 0.56206); picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(picker.cameraViewTransform, 80, 120); But all I got was a scaled 1/2 sized view on the top left of the screen. It seems as though "CGAffineTransformTranslate" does nothing at all. The translation didn't work even when I used: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformMake(1, 0, 0, 1, 80, 120); The translation portion seems to have no effect on the live camera view. Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks.
