  Hi everyone. I'm ripping my hair out over this one. For some odd reason I cannot find out / think of how to move a sprite in SFML and or SDL. The tutorials I've looked at for both libraries state nothing about this; so I assume that it's more of a C++ thing than a library thing. So I was wondering; how do you move a sprite? (When I say move, I mean have the sprite "glide" across the window at a set speed)

• Reading multiple Emacs info files simultaneously

  For reading programming (and other) documentation, the Emacs INFO mode is outstanding. So outstanding that I would like to be able to read say, the Emacs Lisp info file and the org-mode info files simultaneously without traversing back up to the beginning of the info tree. Either I've missed something obvious or I will need to hack some Emacs Lisp to achieve the goal. And yet again, someone may have already cracked this nut. So I guess my question is: what is the state of the practice for reading mulitple INFO files in Emacs simultaneously?

  Hi, Is it possible to cover my controller, that is highly depeinding on Etags with unit tests? Here's what i'm trying to do: in case if page is not stale (meaning that it's fresh), i'm adding some header to response. When i'm trying to test it all (rspec), no matter how many similar requests i have, i still receive 200 OK instead of 304, and my header doesn't get modified. Furthermore, if i track request.fresh?(response), it's ALWAYS false. However, it perfectly works in browser. I've already tried to state ActionController::Base.perform_caching = true, it doesn't change the overall situation. Thank you

• Ninject Contextual Binding: Where do I get Ninject.Conditions.dll

  I've read about ninjects contextual binding here : http://ninject.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Contextual%20Binding and am trying to get it working in my project. The docs state that I need to add a reference to Ninject.Conditions.Dll which I do not have. Does anybody know where to get this? I've tried over at github : https://github.com/ninject/ninject I used the download link to get the 2.0.1.0 sources and managed to build them but no dll. I found a similar question here : Where can I find ninject.web.mvc.dll? and an answer with a link to a build server. I followed the link and I get a login request for team city. I don't have an account.

• How do I get the same key bindings in vmware's Window and Mac [closed]

  I have a macbook but sometimes I run Windows in vmware to program in Visual Studio. I have a swedish keyboard, to get the curly brace '{' I press alt(=option)+shift+8 in mac, but to get the same character in vmware/windows I should press alt+7. Obviously, I would like to have the same keyboard layout in mac and windows, how can I make this happen? I have been recommended to use autohotkey on Windows, but I have a problem mapping AltGr shift 8 to a character (i.e. <^!+8:{ does not work) (I state the question in this forum because I think that only programmers can answer it, we are the only ones that use the characters []{} )

• C# yield return not returning an item as expected

  I have following code: private void ProcessQueue() { foreach (MessageQueueItem item in GetNextQueuedItem()) PerformAction(item); } private IEnumerable<MessageQueueItem> GetNextQueuedItem() { if (_messageQueue.Count > 0) yield return _messageQueue.Dequeue(); } Initially there is one item in the queue as ProcessQueue is called. During PerformAction, I would add more items to _messageQueue. However, the foreach loop quits after the initial item and does not see the subsequent items added. I sense that somehow the initial state of the queue is being captured by yield. Can someone explain what is happening and give a solution?

One way is using the setup callback that is part of tinyMCE.init: tinyMCE.init({ ... setup : function(ed) { // do things with editor ed } }); The other way is to hook up to the onAddEditor event: tinyMCE.onAddEditor.add(function(mgr,ed) { // do things with editor ed }); What are the differences between using these two methods? I've written programs which use OpenSSL API. Moreover, I know how to use pthreads. However, the OpenSSL documents are written in the form of a manual, and I can't see a step-by-step guide on what I have to do when using OpenSSL in a multi-threaded app. Is there a tutorial on using OpenSSL with pthreads? (I searched the web, but no satisfactory result appeared.) PS: I'm working in Debian Lenny & Ubuntu Lucid/Maverick. PS2: OpenSSL includes a sample, but it's far too complicated to start with.

• EntityFramework EntityState and databinding along with INotifyPropertyChanged

  Hello, all! I have a WPF view that displays a Shipment entity. I have a textblock that contains an asterisk which will alert a user that the record is changed but unsaved. I originally hoped to bind the visibility of this (with converter) to the Shipment.EntityState property. If value = EntityState.Modified Then Return Visibility.Visible Else Return Visibility.Collapsed End If The property gets updated just fine, but the view is ignorant of the change. What I need to know is, how can I get the UI to receive notification of the property change. If this cannot be done, is there a good way of writing my own IsDirty property that handles editing retractions (i.e. if I change the value of a property, then change it back to it's original it does not get counted as an edit, and state remains Unchanged). Any help, as always, will be greatly appreciated. Cory

• ASP.NET Session expires in no time?

  Weired problem! ASP.NET Session expires instantly. In my web.config I have this session settings: <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="10000" /> AFAIK the timeout attribute's value is in minutes and can't be greater than 525,600 minutes (1 year). I don't understand what I am doing wrong here. Why is the session expiring. Is it a server memory issue? I don't think so, the server is pretty descent and it has only one site which isn't doing much after all. Ideas? EDIT: After setting the cookiless attribute to true, and while noticing the session id on the url, I can see that the session id CHANGING. I assume that this means the session is expiring. The IIS Settings are correct AFAIK (the enable session state checkbox is checked, and the value of the time is 20). A Picture is worth 100 words:

• Sync Framework, Local Database Cache, and my DAL

  I am creating a WPF app that needs to allow users to work in a temporary disconnected state and I plan to use a Local Database Cache. My question's are about my data access layer. Do you typically create the whole DAL to point at the Cache or both and create a switching mechanism? Is Entity's a good way to go for my DAL against the Cache? I am used to L2S but my understanding is that I can't use that against SQLCE, correct? Thanks! PS: Any good resources out there for using Sync, Linq, and WPF? Tutorials, videos, etc?

• [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation] always null

  As per the title. Calling [[UIDevice currentDevice] BeginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications] has no effect. DidRotateToInterfaceOrientation etc events are working fine, but I need to be able to poll the device orientation arbitrarily. How can I fix/do this? The long story: I have a tab application with a navigation controller on each tab. The root view of tab number one is a graph that goes full screen when the orientation changes to landscape; however this needs to be checked whenever the view appears as the orientation change could have occurred elsewhere, so I was hoping to poll the orientation state whenever this view appears.

• Adobe AIR: touch screen doesn't trigger mouse down event correctly

  i have designed a gaming kiosk app in as3 i am using it on a Sony vaio l pc (like hp's touchsmarts) in windows 7 the app doesn't need any multi-touch gestures (only single touch clicks and drags) so i am using mouse events everything is fine (including mouse click and move events) except that a single touch to the screen (with no move) doesn't fire a mouse down. it is fired only after a small move of the finger outside the app, on my desktop, i see that the small windows 7 cursor jumps immediately to where a finger is placed, meaning this issue isn't a hardware or a windows problem but rather how internally the flash app receives "translated" touch-to-mouse events from the os. for example, in a windows Solitaire game, a simple touch to the screen immediately highlights the touched card. in my app, a button will change to the down state only if i touch it and also move my finger slightly (click events - down and up - are triggered fine) shouldn't the MOUSE_DOWN event trigger exactly like how a TOUCH_BEGIN would in the new touchevent class? any ideas?

• Android, simply view question about view reset

  I have a button in my activity, when you click the button an if statement is ran against its text label; if(BTN_1.getText()=="firsttext"){ //do some stuff, then... BTN_1.setText("secondtext"); }else if(BTN_1.getText()=="secondtext"){ //do other stuff, then... BTN_1.setText("firsttext"); } Firstly, if I hit the home button and go back to the desktop and then click back onto my app the view has reset its self; if I press the button and leave it in a state where the text of the button is "secondtext", when I return to my app it says "firsttext", how can I stop the view of my app refreshing its self like this? Secondly, under my XML layout I have defined the buttons text; android:text="firsttext" But this won't actually match my if statement above, under onCreate of this app I have: BTN_CONNECT.setText("Connect"); But visually the text of the button is exactly the same, why won't it match? • Can you do icon overlays using Java on Windows OS

  I would like to manupilate badges or icon overlays using Java on windows. Basically some files on the drive to have overlays depending what state those files are in. This should be visible through windows explorer. Something simillar to how DropBox does things. Is that possible? I've seen several articles on this topic but none of them use Java. They all seem to use C++ or C# or COM objects. I was looking for a Java solution for windows. Of course I'd like to have a Java solution on Mac's too. Not sure if this is possible but before I give up I thought I ask.

• Using the sharepoint stsadm import command fails when list exists

  When using the stsadm -o import command in sharepoint I am getting an error relating to a list already existing, the import then seems to fail. Should it not handle this scenario of a list already existing on the destination server? I then used the UI to delete the existing list and ran the import again. It then seemed to fail at the same point saying the list exists. In the UI the list appears but when I click it, it reports that the list does not exist - almost as if it's stuck in a half created state, unable to be deleted or created by the import. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

• Big smart ViewModels, dumb Views, and any model, the best MVVM approach?

  The following code is a refactoring of my previous MVVM approach (Fat Models, skinny ViewModels and dumb Views, the best MVVM approach?) in which I moved the logic and INotifyPropertyChanged implementation from the model back up into the ViewModel. This makes more sense, since as was pointed out, you often you have to use models that you either can't change or don't want to change and so your MVVM approach should be able to work with any model class as it happens to exist. This example still allows you to view the live data from your model in design mode in Visual Studio and Expression Blend which I think is significant since you could have a mock data store that the designer connects to which has e.g. the smallest and largest strings that the UI can possibly encounter so that he can adjust the design based on those extremes. Questions: I'm a bit surprised that I even have to "put a timer" in my ViewModel since it seems like that is a function of INotifyPropertyChanged, it seems redundant, but it was the only way I could get the XAML UI to constantly (once per second) reflect the state of my model. So it would be interesting to hear anyone who may have taken this approach if you encountered any disadvantages down the road, e.g. with threading or performance. The following code will work if you just copy the XAML and code behind into a new WPF project. • Storing hierarchical (parent/child) data in Python/Django: MPTT alternative?

  I'm looking for a good way to store and use hierarchical (parent/child) data in Django. I've been using django-mptt, but it seems entirely incompatible with my brain - I end up with non-obvious bugs in non-obvious places, mostly when moving things around in the tree: I end up with inconsistent state, where a node and its parent will disagree on their relationship. My needs are simple: Given a node: find its root find its ancestors find its descendants With a tree: easily move nodes (ie. change parent) My trees will be smallish (at most 10k nodes over 20 levels, generally much much smaller, say 10 nodes with 1 or 2 levels). I have to think there has to be an easier way to do trees in python/django. Are there other approaches that do a better job of maintaining consistency?

• jQuery UI sortable issue with helper offset value being same as scroll offset on FireFox only

  I have a problem with a jQuery UI 1.7.2 sortable list in Firefox, IE7-8 work fine. When I'm scrolled down a bit, the helper element seems to have an offset of the same height that I'm scrolled down which makes it impossible to see which item you originally started dragging. How do I fix this or work around the issue? If there is no fix what is a really good alternative drag-able plugin?   Hello guys; I have a conceptual question... I am making an Intranet application (Web platform) for a company. I have a SQL Server DB with these tables: Users (userID, userName, userPass, roleID) Roles (roleID, roleName) Pages (pageID, pageURL) RolesXPages(pageID, roleID) How is the best way to create a structure to store all this information while the user navigates the site, I mean, on the thread I should be able to check his role, his pages (the ones he can access) I have been reading and there is a lot of stuff there where Im confused, I saw the MembershipProvider, IPrincipal, IIdentity, etc classes but Im not sure what should be the best one for me. Any thoughts... Thanks in advance! Edit: Everytime gets more confusing... I just want to handle those structures at runtime and be able to mantain state during page callbacks or changing pages...

• How do I insert into a unique key into a table?

  I want to insert data into a table where I don't know the next unique key that I need. I'm not sure how to format my INSERT query so that the value of the Key field is 1 greater than the maximum value for the key in the table. I know this is a hack, but I'm just running a quick test against a database and need to make sure I always send over a Unique key. Here's the SQL I have so far: INSERT INTO [CMS2000].[dbo].[aDataTypesTest] ([KeyFld] ,[Int1]) VALUES ((SELECT Max([KeyFld]) FROM [dbo].[aDataTypesTest]) + 1 ,1) which errors out with: Msg 1046, Level 15, State 1, Line 5 Subqueries are not allowed in this context. Only scalar expressions are allowed. I'm not able to modify the underlying database table. What do I need to do to ensure a unique insert in my INSERT SQL code?

• Visual Studio 2010 RC + ASP.NET MVC 2

  Now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out, I tried to install it on my development machine, which already has Visual Studio 2010 RC installed and I got this error message during installation Component Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 has failed to install with the following error message: "A different version of ASP.NET MVC 2 is already installed on your system. Please uninstall this version before proceeding with this install." Sure enough, the MVC 2 release notes state: Note Because Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 RC share a component of ASP.NET MVC 2, installing the ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM release on a computer where Visual Studio 2010 RC is also installed is not supported. So my question is, though officially unsupported, if I uninstall VS 2010 RC, install MVC 2 then re-install VS 2010 RC, might this work? And would I then be able to target MVC 2 in VS2010?

Do I still have to tweak any specifics to auth.conf for getting this to work? HTTP/1.1" 403 93 "-" "Ruby" On the agent machine facter fqdn and hostname both return a fully qualified host name [amisr1@blramisr195602 ~]$ sudo facter fqdn blramisr195602.XXXXXXX.com I then updated the agent configuration to add dns_alt_names = 10.209.47.31 cleaned all certificates on master and agent and regenerated the certificates and signed them on master using the option --allow-dns-alt-names [amisr1@bangvmpllDA02 ~]$ sudo puppet cert sign blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com Error: CSR 'blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com' contains subject alternative names (DNS:10.209.47.31, DNS:blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com), which are disallowed. Use `puppet cert --allow-dns-alt-names sign blramisr195602.XXXXXX.com` to sign this request. Not sure why in the logs it shows comparing access rules by IP and not hostname. Is there any Nginx configuration to change this behavior?
