• Setting image DPI in relation to height/width C#

  Hi, I'm writing an application to send some images to a third party, and the images must be 200x200 DPI. The image is a Bitmap and is sized at 500 width and 250 height. The first time I tested the images with the third party, my resolution was incorrect. I merely used image.SetResolution(200,200) to correctly set it to 200x200. This, however, only changed the resolution tag for the image and did not properly, according to my third party technical contact, adjust the image height and width. Is there a ratio that I can use so that for each X units I increment the resolution, I merely increment the corresponding height or width Y units? I thought that I could just increment resolution without having to increment height or width. Thank you, Aaron.

  I am writing a home screen widget and want to update the home screen widget when the device orientation changes from portrait to landscape or the other way. How can I make it? Currently, I tried to reigster to CONFIGURATION_CHANGED action like the code below, but the Android didn't allow me to do that by saying "IntentReceiver components are not allowed to register to receive intents". Can someone help me? • Does a version control database storage engine exist?

  I was just wondering if a storage engine type existed that allowed you to do version control on row level contents. For instance, if I have a simple table with ID, name, value, and ID is the PK, I could see that row 354 started as (354, "zak", "test")v1 then was updated to be (354, "zak", "this is version 2 of the value")v2 , and could see a change history on the row with something like select history (value) where ID = 354. It's kind of an esoteric thing, but it would beat having to keep writing these separate history tables and functions every time a change is made...

• UTF-8 BOM in php response to mootools xmlhttprequest

  Hi, I'm writing my first little AJAX-enabled Joomla component. I'm using mootools. I got a xmlhttprequest to contact my Joomla component, and the component returns a response - just plain text echoed by php, like echo 'Hello World!'; It's all working fine, except wireshark tells me that the response is prepended with \357\273\277\357\273\277 when it gets read by the javascript on the client side. This shows up as a little square before the response in an alert box that the script shows. I don't explicitly set the encoding on the xmlhttprequest; mootools docs say that it defaults to UTF8. What's the right way to handle this? Should I be setting the encoding on the request? Mime type? Should the javascript get rid of it? I'm not planning to have any characters requiring UTF8 in the response, so using plain old ascii would be ok for me too. Thanks

• Create two separate windows in terminal

  Picture a terminal. There are two windows inside that terminal. One on top, one on bottom. The top one is much bigger. The top one receives asynchronous updates. The bottom one is for user input. It would work almost exactly the same as vim - the text editor. I'm writing this in Python. I'm guessing you would do this by using curses, but I'm not sure if it's possible.

The input has sections which can contain questions or other sections recursively (composite pattern) like this: Section: A Question: 1 Question: 2 Section: B Question: 1 End End My definition for a Section looks like this syntax Section = "Section:" id:Text body:(SectionBody)* "End Section"; Which works (but doesn't handle recursive sections) if I define SectionBody like this syntax SectionBody = (Question); but doesn't work with a recursive definition like this syntax SectionBody = (Question | Section); What am I missing?

• Parameterized SQL statements vs. very simple method

  When I started to write the first SQL-Statements in my programs I felt quite comfortable with protecting myself against SQL-Injection with a very simple method that a colleague showed me. It replaced all single quotes with two single quotes. So for example there is a searchfield in which you can enter a customername to search in the customertable. If you would enter Peter's Barbershop The SELECT Statement would look like SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Customername = 'Peter''s Barbershop' If now an attacker would insert this: ';DROP TABLE FOO; -- The statement would look like: SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Customername = ''';DROP TABLE FOO;--' It would not drop any table, but search the customertable for the customername ';DROP TABLE FOO;-- which, I suppose, won't be found ;-) Now after a while of writing statements and protecting myself against SQL-Injection with this method, I read that many developers use parameterized statements, but I never read an article where "our" method was used. So definitely there is a good reason for it. What scenarios would parameterized statements cover but our method doesn't? What are the advantages of parameterized statements compared to our method? • How do i redirect to a GET request from a POST request on GAE

  Hello everyone, i am writing an FBML app on facebook hosted in GAE. Facebook will talk to your hosted app only vai POST (im sure this is the cause, but please do correct me if i'm wrong). So im faced with the issue that inside of my POST method, i need to redirect to facebook OAuth authroize URL. But i can only send a GET request. How can i do that? At the moment i'm doing class OauthHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): # blablablab request.redirect(oauth_uri) Which is wrong since the oauth_uri is only responding to GET. Further more, OAuth will redirect back to my redirect handler through GET, but i cant! i can only do post. So i'm confused. ideas? Thanks in advance

  I'm trying to create a child process in another process. I am writing both the programs in C language. First I write a dummy process which will be the child process. What it is doing is only to write a string on the screen. It works well on its own. Then I write another program which will be the parent process. However, I can't make it happen. I'm trying to use fork and execl functions together, but I fail. I also want the child process does not terminate until the parent process terminates. How should I write the parent process? Thanks.

• MYSQL Event to update another database table

  Hey All, I have just taken over a project for a client and the database schema is in a total mess. I would like to rename a load of fields make it a relationship database. But doing this will be a painstaking process as they have an API running of it also. So the idea would be to create a new database and start re-writing the code to use this instead. But I need a way to keep these tables in sync during this process. Would you agree that I should use MYSQL EVENT's to keep updating the new table on Inserts / updates & deletes?? • CSRF error when trying to log onto Django admin page with w3m on Emacs23

  I normally use Firefox and have had no problems with the admin page on my Django website. But I use Emacs23 for writing my posts, and wanted to be able to use w3m in Emacs to copy the stuff across. When I try to log into my admin pages, it gives the CSRF error: CSRF verification failed. Request aborted. Help Reason given for failure: No CSRF or session cookie. ... Is there a way that I could get w3m to work with my admin page? I am not sure if the problem lies with the way the admin is set up on Django or with the Emacs or w3m settings.

• MySQL - Skip Duplicate WordPress Entries

  I'm writing a script to display the 10 most recently "active" WordPress blog posts (i.e. those with the most recent comments). Problem is, the list has a lot of duplicates. I'd like to weed out the duplicates. Is there an easy way to do this by changing the MySQL query (like IGNORE, WHERE) or some other means? • How do I mix functions in complex SSRS expressions?

  I'm writing a report against a data repository that has null values within some of the columns. The problem is building expressions is as temperamental as a hormonal old lady and doesn't like my mixing of functions. Here's an expression I've written that does not work if the data in the field is null/nothing: =IIF( IsNumeric(Fields!ADataField.Value), RunningValue( IIF( DatePart("q", Fields!CreatedOn.Value) = "2", Fields!ADataField.Value, 0 ), Sum, Nothing ), Sum(0) ) (Pseudocode) "If the data is valid and if the data was created in the second quarter of the year, add it to the overall Sum, otherwise, add zero to the sum." Looks pretty straight forward. And the individual pieces of the expression work by themselves. IE: IsNumeric(), DatePart(), etc. But when I put them all together, the expression throws an error. I've attempted about every permutation of what's shown above, all to no avail. Null values in Fields!ADataField.Value cause errors. Thoughts?

  Basically, I am looking for a java library that will take this: <foo><bar> </bar><baz>yadda</baz></foo> And pretty print it to this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <foo> <bar> </bar> <baz>yadda</baz> </foo> e.g. preserving whitespace AND blank elements The closest I have got was with dom4j like so: OutputFormat format = OutputFormat.createPrettyPrint(); format.setTrimText( false ); However, this does not honor the whitespace unless the element contains other character data. I'm not opposed to writing something on my own, but I would think this has already been done, why reinvent the wheel?

  Hi, I am to program the Solovay-Strassen primality test presented in the original paper on RSA. Additionally I will need to write a small bignum library, and so when searching for a convenient representation for bignum I came across this [specification][1]: struct { int sign; int size; int *tab; } bignum; I will also be writing a multiplication routine using the Karatsuba method. So, for my question: What base would be convenient to store integer data in the bignum struct? Note: I am not allowed to use third party or built-in implementations for bignum such as GMP.   My rails app is about to go live and I'm trying to figure out how to create a widget based on data on the site. My Javascript is not too hot--limited to the O'reilly head first book on JS. I can read simple Javascript okay but when it comes to writing it I'm a little lost. That said, I hope to roll out a widget, maybe a wordpress plugin too soon after my app is launched. Does anyone know of any rails plugins, javascript templates, tutorials or books that can get me going? I did ask a similar question before here: But my limited knowledge of JS kept me from implementing the suggested answer properly.

• XML Validation in ASP.NET MVC during load

  I'm writing an ASP.NET MVC 2 application where one of the backing stores I plan to support is XML. I have a POCO that represents the settings for the site, along with an XML file to contain these settings. My question is what is the best way to validate this data as it is read from disk in to the POCO? I know I can use an XSD, or maybe use the Data Annotations library to mark up the POCO, and use reflection to validate the data, but is there another way, perhaps in .NET 3.5 or MVC to do this? I've spent some time Googling this issue, and want to be sure I'm doing it in the best manner. Thanks in advance!

• questions about multi threading for sockets/tcp-connections.

  I have a server that connects to multiple clients using TCP/IP connections, using C in Unix. Since it won't have more than 20 connections at a time, I figured I would use a thread per connection/socket. But the problem is writing to the sockets as I'll be sending user prompted msgs to clients. Once each socket is handled by a thread, how do I interact with the created thread to write to the sockets? Should each thread just read from the sockets and I'll write to sockets in the main program? Not sure if that's a good way to go about it.

• Looking for the most painless non-RDBMS storage method in C#

  I'm writing a simple program that will run entirely client-side. (Desktop programming? do people still do that?) and I need a simple way to store trivial amounts of data in a structured form, but really don't see any need to use a database system. What's more, some of the data needs to be serialized and passed around to different users, like some kind of "file" or perhaps a "document". (has anyone ever done that before?) So, I've looked at using .Net DataSets, LINQ, direct XML manipulation, and they all seem like they would get the job done, but I would like to know before I dive into any of them if there's one method that is generally regarded as easier to code than others. As I said, the amount of data to be stored is trivial, even if one hundred people all used the same machine we're not talking about more than 10 MB, so performance is not as large a concern as is codeability/maintainability.   In my class we are writing our own copy of C's malloc() function. To test my code (which can currently allocate space fine) I was using: char* ptr = my_malloc(6*sizeof(char)); memcpy(ptr, "Hello\n", 6*sizeof(char)); printf("%s", ptr); The output would typically be this: Hello Unprintable character Some debugging figured that my code wasn't causing this per say, as ptr's memory is as follows: [24 bytes of meta info][Number of requested bytes][Padding] So I figured that printf was reaching into the padding, which is just garbage. So I ran a test of: printf("%s", "test\nd"); and got: test d Which makes me wonder, when DOES printf("%s", char*) stop printing chars?

• Implementation question involving implementing an interface

  I'm writing a set of collection classes for different types of Trees. I'm doing this as a learning exercise and I'm also hoping it turns out to be something useful. I really want to do this the right way and so I've been reading Effective Java and I've also been looking at the way Joshua Bloch implemented the collection classes by looking at the source. I seem to have a fair idea of what is being done, but I still have a few things to sort out. I have a Node<T> interface and an AbstractNode<T> class that implements the Node interface. I then created a GenericNode<T> (a node that can have 0 to n children, and that is part of an n-ary tree) class that extends AbstractNode<T> and implements Node<T>. This part was easy. Next, I created a Tree<T> interface and an AbstractTree<T> class that implements the Tree<T> interface. After that, I started writing a GenericTree<T> class that extends AbstractTree<T> and implements Tree<T>. This is where I started having problems. As far as the design is concerned, a GenericTree<T> can only consist of nodes of type GenericTreeNode<T>. This includes the root. In my Tree<T> interface I have: public interface Tree<T> { void setRoot(Node<T> root); Node<T> getRoot(); List<Node<T>> postOrder(); ... rest omitted ... } And, AbstractTree<T> implements this interface: public abstract class AbstractTree<T> implements Tree<T> { protected Node<T> root; protected AbstractTree() { } protected AbstractTree(Node<T> root) { this.root = root; } public void setRoot(Node<T> root) { this.root = root; } public Node<T> getRoot() { return this.root; } ... rest omitted ... } In GenericTree<T>, I can have: public GenericTree(Node<T> root) { super(root); } But what this means is that you can create a generic tree using any subtype of Node<T>. You can also set the root of a tree to any subtype of Node<T>. I want to be able to restrict the type of the node to the type of the tree that it can represent. To fix this, I can do this: public GenericTree(GenericNode<T> root) { super(root); } However, setRoot still accepts a parameter of type Node<T>. Which means a user can still create a tree with the wrong type of root node. How do I enforce this constraint? The only way I can think of doing is either: Do an instanceof which limits the check to runtime. I'm not a huge fan of this. Remove setRoot from the interface and have the base class implement this method. This means that it is not part of the contract and anyone who wants to make a new type of tree needs to remember to implement this method. Is there a better way? The second question I have concerns the return type of postOrder which is List<Node<T>>. This means that if a user is operating on a GenericTree<T> object and calls postOrder, he or she receives a list that consists of Node<T> objects. This means when iterating through (using a foreach construct) they would have perform an explicit cast to GenericNode<T> if they want to use methods that are only defined in that class. I don't like having to place this burden on the user. What are my options in this case? I can only think of removing the method from the interface and have the subclass implement this method making sure that it returns a list of appropriate subtype of Node<T>. However, this once again removes it from the contract and it's anyone who wants to create a new type of tree has to remember to implement this method. Is there a better way?

• How to print non-ASCII characters in Python

  I have a problem when I'm printing (or writing to a file) the non-ASCII characters in Python. I've resolved it by overriding the str method in my own objects, and making "x.encode('utf-8')" inside it, where x is a property inside the object. But, if I receive a third-party object, and I make "str(object)", and this object has a non-ASCII character inside, it will fail. So the question is: is there any way to tell the str method that the object has an UTF-8 codification, generically? I'm working with Python 2.5.4.
