• Small app structure review

  Hi, I would be grateful if someone could review following: I have a main Form app. OnLoad it displays with Docstyle=Fill the main menu which is done by user control. If the user selects a choice in that Menu control, it fires an event (with one parameter Choice) which main forms reacts on. If the choice is run the app, it closes the user control (dipose) and call method starting the app. If the choice is to quit, it calls Application.Exit. Is that alright form programmers point of view?

  Solved!!! Enable open as administrator in nautilus! To get started, press Ctrl – Alt – T on your keyboard to open Terminal. When it opens, run the commands below: enter code here sudo apt-get install nautilus-gksu After installing that application run copy and paste the line below and press enter. sudo cp /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/libnautilus-gksu.so /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-3.0/ Finally, log out and back in then go and test it, by clicking your right mouse click on the file you want to run as Admin and your see a popup menu with the words: open as administrater. If you have installed all the above products, just follow this steps: 1. Go to Central Administration > Click on Manage Service Application. 2. All the menus are not displayed in ribbon Menu format which was first introduced in Office 2007. Click on New > Word Viewing Services ( You can choose PowerPoint or Excel also, steps are same ). This will open a pop window. Adding Services for Office Web Apps 3. Give a Proper Name which can have your companies or project name. 4. Under Application Pool select : SharePoint Web Services Default. 5. Next keep the check box checked which says : Add this service application’s proxy to the farm’s default proxy list. Click Ok Adding Word Viewer as Service Application Office Web Apps as Services in Sharepoint 2010 6. This will install all the Office Web App services required. • JUnit Testing in Multithread Application

  This is a problem me and my team faces in almost all of the projects. Testing certain parts of the application with JUnit is not easy and you need to start early and to stick to it, but that's not the question I'm asking. The actual problem is that with n-Threads, locking, possible exceptions within the threads and shared objects the task of testing is not as simple as testing the class, but testing them under endless possible situations within threading. To be more precise, let me tell you about the design of one of our applications: When a user makes a request several threads are started that each analyse a part of the data to complete the analysis, these threads run a certain time depending on the size of the chunk of data (which are endless and of uncertain quality) to analyse, or they may fail if the data was insufficient/lacking quality. After each completed its analysis they call upon a handler which decides after each thread terminates if the collected analysis-data is sufficient to deliver an answer to the request. All of these analysers share certain parts of the applications (some parts because the instances are very big and only a certain number can be loaded into memory and those instances are reusable, some parts because they have a standing connection, where connecting takes time, ex.gr. sql connections) so locking is very common (done with reentrant-locks). While the applications runs very efficient and fast, it's not very easy to test it under real-world conditions. What we do right now is test each class and it's predefined conditions, but there are no automated tests for interlocking and synchronization, which in my opionion is not very good for quality insurances. Given this example how would you handle testing the threading, interlocking and synchronization?

  Currently our team develops Web Applications and now we are going to Windows Forms applications. I have created the inception phase for our Windows Forms project structure. eg: ApplicationSolution --> Security Project(Login Authentication) a. Users will be registered with different applications in our application database. eg: ProjectApplicationId|ProjectName | UserId 1 |ProjectApplication1| user 2 |ProjectApplication2| user b. Execute Application (Start) c. On Security dialog, application automatically get the userid of the user and see all the application it is registered using System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent() eg: Prototype Welcome User! Please Choose Appliations you are registered on below: ProjectApplication1 <--this will be a dropdown ProjectApplication2 Password: [*********************] [Access Application Button] d. User selects the application with its password e. If the password is incorrect (application.exit()) else execute Selected Application eg: ProjectApplication1 is selected then execute ProjectApplication1 --> ProjectApplication1 --> ProjectApplication2 --> Many to come ++ if ProjectApplications has been closed then restart security Application. • Icons missing from launcher, system settings, folders

  Various icons from launcher are missing. The first one is from Home folder menu the second from Terminal the last one from Desktop Switcher. This happened after I upgraded to 11.10 from 11.04. I have created a New (Untitled Folder) folder in my desktop and the icon is missing too. The same occurs in System Settings menu too. Some icons like Appearance, Keyboard Layout are missing too. Sorry but I can't post a screenshot due to my reputation. Any suggestions?

• Oracle Secure Global Desktop - Business Continuity During Snowstorm!

  Capgemini, one of the world's largest management consulting, outsourcing and professional services companies, is an Oracle Secure Global Desktop customer and uses it to provide secure, remote access to 1) corporate applications centralized in the datacenter and 2) desktops hosted on Oracle VDI. Earlier this month, one of Capgemini's government customers in Holland were advised to avoid traveling to work, due to a heavy snowstorm. This resulted in a lot of employees working from home. Thankfully due to their deployment of the Oracle Secure Global Desktop gateway, employees were able to easily access their corporate applications and desktops from home and anywhere outside of their office. Capgemini reports that during the days of the snowstorm, a record number of users leveraged Oracle Secure Global Desktop (servers and gateway). Despite this record usage, Oracle Secure Global Desktop remained perfectly stable and allowed users to seamlessly access their applications and desktops. This is a great example of how Oracle Secure Global Desktop allows employee productivity and business continuity even during severe weather conditions such as snowstorms. • Apple Cinema Display 23" and grub

  As per the title, I'm running my display on an older 23" Apple Cinema Display (because I still love it, darn it). I'm pushing it with an ATI Radeon DVI dual-link PCIe card. It works just fine, except GRUB doesn't seem able to push out the 1920x1200 pixel resolution needed in order to show me a boot menu! So..., I keep a smaller second monitor connected as the primary display so that I can see the boot menu and boot the system (I don't use that display once booted). This is a goofy work-around, and I'd like to just use my single display exclusively to boot the machine. I found some grub codes for higher resolutions, but not for 1920x1200. Is it capable of this? Did I just miss it? Thanks in advance!!!

When I check phpinfo() I see: --with-pdo-mysql=shared,/Applications/MAMP/Library --with-pdo-pgsql=shared,/Applications/MAMP/Library/pg When I go and check out those paths I find the files: libpq.5.dylib libpq.dylib libpq.5.2.dylib When I check my php.ini file I see: ; Extensions extension=pdo_mysql.so In php.ini the path to the extension dir is correct (checked it manually): extension_dir = "/Applications/MAMP/bin/php5.3/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626/" In this folder I find the file: pdo_mysql.so phpinfo() gives me two sections: PDO PDO drivers: sqlite, sqlite2 and pdo_sqlite SQLite Library: 3.6.22 So everything seems to be fine, but can't get the PDO MySQL driver working :(

• 100% CPU Runaway Processes (NCurses?)

  This is a problem I've had for years, but just haven't posted anywhere about it until now. I'm running GRML, a Debian squeeze based Linux distro, and occasionally certain processes will runaway and cause 100% CPU usage. The only way I can usually know is when my thermal meter on my statusbar will turn yellow. Sometimes I run fullscreen applications when it happens, though, so I sometimes don't catch it, leaving my computer wasting away at my CPU. The processes that I can think of off the top of my head are these: abook, aumix, hnb, wyrd. They are all NCurses based console applications, and there are others that are also NCurses based. Is there a bug in NCurses somewhere that I need patched or something? This also happened on the same distro with the same applications on a different laptop with the same configurations. Any ideas? • How to associate all file types within Wine with its corresponding native application?

  This is easily done for a single file type, as answered in How to associate a file type within Wine with a native application?, by creating a .reg for the desired filetype. But this is for AVI only. I use some wine apps (uTorrent, Soulseek, Eudora, to name a few) that can launch a wide range of files. Email attachments, for example, can be JPG, DOC, PDF, PPS... its impossible (and not desirable) to track down all possible file types that one may receive in an email or download in a torrent. So I neeed a solution to be more generic and broad. I need the file association to honor whatever native app is currently configured. And I want this to be done for all file types configured in my system. I've already figured out how to make the solution generic. Simply replacing the launched app in .reg for winebrowser, like this: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf] @="PDFfile" "Content Type"="application/pdf" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PDFfile\Shell\Open\command] @="C:\\windows\\system32\\winebrowser.exe \"%1\"" Ive tested this and it works correctly. Since winebrowser uses xdg-open as a backend, and converts my windows path to a Unix one, the correct (Linux) app is launched. So I need a "batch" updater to wine's registry, sort of a wine-update-associations script that I can run whenever a new app is installed. Maybe a tool that can: List all Mime Types types in my system that have a default, installed app associated Extract all the needed info (glob, mime type, etc) Generate the .REG file in the above format The tricky part is: i've searched a LOT to find info about how association is done in Ubuntu 10.10 onwards, and documentation is scarce and confusing, to say the least. Freedesktop.org has no complete spec, and even Gnome docs are obsolete. So far I've gathered 4 files that contain association info, but im clueless on which (or why) to use, or how to use them to generate the .reg file: ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list ~/.local/share/applications/miminfo.cache /usr/share/applications/miminfo.cache /etc/gnome/defaults.list Any help, script or explanation would be greatly appreciated! • Loss of privileges when enabeling auto log-in to encrypted home folder

  I use Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome Shell and have an encrypted home folder. I enabled auto log-in through the system settings/users-admin menu, as I expected it didn't work (because of my encrypted home folder/user I suspect). But now I don't have privileges to mount my eksternal hard-drive, and I can no longer disable the auto log-in function, since the un-lock button in users-admin menu is grayed out. It seems like my users privileges has been degraded. Does any one have an solution to how I disable auto log-in and regain my privileges?

• How do I customize Alt+Tab behaviour?

  GOAL: I would like to make the little menu that pops up when I press Alt+Tab to gain the ability to jump to a particular window by pointing my mouse at one of the icons. This is the behaviour that my Mac OSX laptop has. The Situation I use Xfce, with the default windows manager (XFwm). I currently have Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.10, although I plan on updating both to XUbuntu 12.04 once the dust settles (probably mid-may?). (Clarification, for my current setup, I installed Ubuntu, then added xfce manually after the fact). So, a series of related questions. How do I set this up? (If this is not possible, please answer the following questions to help me learn) Is the Alt+Tab a function of the desktop environment, or the windows manager, or some other piece? (IE if I switch to using some other tool, could I potentially get this) Are there any customizations that are available either from settings or add-on applications that would allow me to change the behaviour of that menu?

• How do I trust an off site application

  I need to implement something similar to a license server. This will have to be installed off site at the customers' location and needs to communicate with other applications at the customers' site (the applications that use the licenses) and an application running in our hosting center (for reporting and getting license information). My question is how to set this up in a way I can trust that: The license server is really our application and not something that just simulates it; and There is no "man in the middle" (i.e. a proxy or something that alters the traffic). The first thing I thought of was to use with client certificates and that would solve at least 2. However, what I'm worried about is that someone just decompiles (this is build in .NET) the license server, alters some logic and recompiles it. This would be hard to detect from both connecting applications. This doesn't have to be absolutely secure since we have a limited number of customers whom we have a trust relationship with. However, I do want to make it more difficult than a simple decompile/recompile of the license server. I primarily want to protect against an employee or nephew of the boss trying to be smart.

• How do I get an application to appear as a choice in update-alternatives?

  I separately installed the Firefox Beta and Alpha channels, and have desktop configuration files pointing to them in ~/.local/share/applications. However, stable Firefox is being used as my default browser by the system. (Firefox Beta used to be used until I messed with the "Default Applications" in System Settings, where it is not listed.) I tried running sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser to manually change it, but it's only recognizing Chromium and Firefox (stable) and showing them as a choice. What can I do to get custom desktop configuration files in ~/.local/share/applications to be seen as default alternatives? I think I may have to fiddle with the desktop config files, or with mimeinfo.cache or mimeapps.list? Running Oneiric. • What is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System?

  In order to understand what an Enterprise Resource Planning System is let us look at a classic American kids snack, the Rice Krispy Treat if we conceptually view the treat as a company’s internal applications as a whole.  Furthermore we can view a company’s departmentalized software applications as the theoretical Rice Krispies in the treat. In addition, the Rice Krispies consist of a combination of ingredients that be broken down into data, user interfaces and business logic. Next, we have the margarine or butter that is used to help the marshmallows bind with the Rice Krispies; this role in our conceptual view is taken by a data source typically as a relational database management system. Finally we have the melted marshmallows which act as the ERP software that connects all of the individual departmental software applications in to one unified system that allows all user one unified system to interact with all of the individual dispersed systems. An example of this would be if a customer places an order with a telephone operator and once the orders is processed an employee in the shipping department can see the order ready for fulfillment on his order screen. The ERP acts a go between for various independent departmental systems so that they can integrate with one another.
