  • Is there a jQuery lightbox plugin that has thumbnails inside the box?

    I'm trying to find a lightbox style plugin in jQuery that displays thumbnails at the bottom of the picture (or video, or whatever). I found plenty of lightbox plugins, but none that allows navigation by thumbnail inside the box. The plugin must be able to open images, swf and inline content. I realize that jQuery will not be able to generate the thumbnails and that's ok. Do you have any good ones to suggest? Thanks

  • Launcher tooltip display issues

    I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04.1, and it seems that i have some issues with the launcher: if i hover the mouse on an icon, it shows an horizontal line instead of the icon's name. if i hover it again, then it will show me the correctly displayed name, in label and all. The thing is pretty annoying. First hover no label (just that line), second hover, label. Video drivers are installed ! Any thoughts? Thank you

  • Oredev 2012: Summary and source code

    This week, I had the pleasure to be invited to talk at Oredev, a really cool conference taking place in Malmo, Sweden. The whole event is awesome, including a very special dinner on Monday including sauna and swimming in a 6 degrees cold Baltic sea, and a reception with dinner at the town hall, including the mayor himself. Considering Malmo is a town of 300'000 inhabitants, it is a pretty nice occasion and the historical building itself is really worth seeing. For those interested, I placed my pictures on my Flickr account. I had a workshop on Tuesday morning about Windows 8 development with XAML/C#, and then a session on Wednesday about MVVM in Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8, of course using MVVM Light. I was very nervous because I reworked some of my demos as recently as this morning, in the wake of the Build conference last week and the release of both the Windows Phone SDK and MVVM Light V4.1. Everything went well however, and if I judge by the people I talked t after the talk, and Twitter, everything went pretty well. Before my talk on Tuesday, I had the pleasure to see a talk by Iris Classon (@irisclasson) on the challenges of being a "n00b" and a woman in software development. I especially appreciated her research and conclusions on the lack of women I our industry, a topic that is dear to my heart (because I want the best possible future for my two daughters, and also because I really enjoy working with women on projects, and getting a different insight on the art of software development. I really want to thank the excellent organization committee for their hard work and their fantastic welcome to Malmo. In particular Emily Holweck did a wonderful job and was super helpful throughout the preparation and the conference itself. I made a few pictures during my stay, all with the new Nokia Lumia 920, and hope you will enjoy them too. The source code and the slides… The source code is available for download from Skydrive. You will find the following: Windows 8 workshop slides. MVVM Applied slides Source code package with Win8Demo: The demo I built during the 4 hours workshop, with some light MVVM, web services (JSON), GridView, Design time data (Blend / Visual Studio designer), Bing maps integration, location sensor, Search pane integration. SemanticZoomSample: a sample I put together to demonstrate the SemanticZoom control, with two GridViews and of course full design time data for Blend work. Due to time constraints, I was not able to show this demo during the workshop, but I publish it anyway, hoping it will be useful to someone.   • Convert Currencies Dynamically using PHP, Google and cURL [closed]

    I want to be able to allow users to dynamically change the currency of the products prices in my webstore, right there on the page. For example, 300 USD will change to 221.61 EUR when the user selects Euros from a dropdown.   • How can I compile an IP address to country lookup database to make available for free?

    How would I go about compiling an accurate database of IP addresses and their related countries to make available as an open source download for any web developer who wants to perform a geographic IP lookup? It seems that a company called MaxMind has a monopoly on geographic IP data, because most online tutorials I've seen for country lookups based on IP addresses start by suggesting a subscription to MaxMind's paid service (or their less accurate free 'Lite' version). I'm not completely averse to paying for their solution or using the free one, but the concept of an accurate open source equivalent that anyone can use without restriction appeals to me, and I think it would be useful for the web development community. How is geographic IP data collected, and how realistic is it to hope to maintain an up-to-date open version?

  • Resources for creating a turn-by-turn navigation system

    I'm trying to create a kind of turn-by-turn satellite navigation system using the iOS SDK. I get the directions from the server and draw them on the map, then I keep getting location updates from the iPhone's GPS chip. Currently I start by finding the nearest turning point then, each time the user comes within a certain distance of the next turning point, a verbal cue is given and the turning point index is incremented. This is a delicate system and I'd like to make it more robust so I can tell when the user is going the wrong direction etc. Basically I'm looking for some literature about turn-by-turn navigation, in terms of tracking the user's progress and whether they're going the right direction. I'd have thought there's a lot of research out there but I can't seem to find anything apart from simple tutorials on how to use a given SDK or directions API. Can anyone direct me to a good run-through of the various techniques used in software such as TomTom or Google Maps Navigation?

  • On-line Based Conferencing For Admin Panel

    Working on my admin panels work station section which will allow the admin to use simple office tools such as word editors, calculators and whatnot. Under this section of the admin panel, I would like to add a conferencing feature which will allow any administrator to connect with another administrator 1-2-1 under the 1-2-1 Conferencing section, or to join a meeting under 'live meeting' section. Upon my search for on-line based, I found there are all these, what seem to be great applications out there, however not all of them are on-line based, and come with a price! I would like to a purely on-line based conferencing/meeting/1-2-1 feature which will allow administrators to communicate via text or sound, stream their video, share their screen and sending of files. I know this sounds like a big feature, and I am not asking for someone to answer by programming one for my website! Does anyone know my best solution to progress to having this feature on my website, any tutorials or free to use, free to modify web plugins? Thank you for your help, Best Regards, Tim

  • Switching from an Ubuntu derivative to original Ubuntu

    I installed Zorin 6 (based on Ubuntu 12.04), because I like all the whistles it has (plymouth screen,compiz effects,installed codecs, sound themes, etc.). I miss though the modern and futuristic unity environment (launcher, dash, HUD, indicators etc.). Is there a way to switch from Zorin to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and keep all these effects? Or What additional software should I install in an Ubuntu clean install to add the effects Zorin has (plymouth, compiz effects, sounds, audio and video codecs etc.)

  • Change administrator username

    I have accidentally typed my name wrong when I created the administrator account. Although I managed to change the user name at the login screen, I am unable to rename the /home/oldusername to /home/newusername. I tried most of the online tutorials, and it failed. The code I tried was this: usermod -l newusername -m -d /home/newusername oldusername But the output is: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later. How can I fix the issue and change the folder to newusername and expect all the applications to work as before?

  • package update in ubuntu on vitual box

    while following one of the tutorials I needed to install a curl package. Here are my system configuration: Virtualbox 4.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I have installed ubuntu 12.04 on the virtual box. When I try the following: sudo apt-get install curl I see the following errors: [sudo] password for userMe: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package curl is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'curl' has no installation candidate userMe@userMe-ubuntu:~$ When I try the same on a direct installation of ubuntu on a laptop (not a virtual machine) there is no problem. I am assuming this may be because of network settings. Please note that my work PC is in a corporate network and uses auto proxy settings (using a .pac file) for internet access etc. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Rotation, further I go from 0:0, the further the object positions around the origin while rotating

    For some reason I am having the issue where the following code: global.spriteBatch.Draw(obj.sprite, obj.getPosition(), null, Color.White, obj.rotation, obj.center, 2f, SpriteEffects.None, 1); causes the object to rotate around the origin in such a way, as though there is an offset to the position relative to its location. The calculation for the center it correct and this happens even if I set the pivot to be the location of the object. The further I get from 0:0 the larger the radius or rotation. I am not sure what is going on here because given the following tutorial http://www.riemers.net/eng/Tutorials/XNA/Csharp/Series2D/Rotation.php I have done the code setup correctly. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

  • Draw images with warped triangles on a web server [migrated]

    The scenario The Flash front end of my current project produces images that a web server needs to combine into a video. Both frame-rate and frame-resolution are sizeable enough that sending an image sequence to the back end is not feasible (in both time and client bandwidth). Instead, we're trying to recreate the image drawing on the back end as well. Correct and slow, or incorrect and fast The problem is that this involves quite a bit of drawing textured triangles, and two solutions we found in Python (here and there) are so inefficient, that the drawing takes about 60 seconds per frame, resulting in a whopping 7,5 hours of processing time for a 30 second clip. Unacceptable. When using a PHP-module to send commands to ImageMagick for image manipulation, the whole process is super fast (tenths of a second per frame), but ImageMagick seems to be unable to draw triangles the way we do it in the front end, so the final results do not match. Unacceptable. What I'm asking here, is if there's someone who would know a way to solve this issue, by any means necessary that would run on a web server. Warping an image Let me explain the process of the front end: Perform a Delaunay calculation on points in an image to get an evenly distributed mesh of triangles. Offset the points/vertices in the mesh, distorting or warping the image. Draw the warped triangles on a new bitmap. We can send the results (coordinates) of steps 1 and 2 to the back end, to then draw the warped triangles and save it to an image on disk (or append as a frame to the video). But that last step is what I need help with. The Question Is there an alternative to ImageMagick that can draw triangles in a bitmap? Is there some other library, like a C library, that would allow us to do this? Or could we achieve this effect more easily by switching back end technologies, like Ruby? (.Net and Java are, unfortunately, not really options right now) Many thanks. EP. P.S. I'd appreciate re-tagging efforts, I don't quite know what labels to put on this question. Thanks!
