• Did test server port change in Rails 2.3?

  I upgraded rails to 2.3.2 from 2.1.1 yesterday and a bunch of my tests started failing. When I was running under 2.1.1, the test server was running on port 3000 so I had a HOST_DOMAIN variable that included the port - HOST_DOMAIN = "localhost.tst:3000". This is so my assert_redirected_to's would succeed. Now, however, it seems that the test server is running on port 80, so the port in HOST_DOMAIN is causing tests to fail. There's no specific reason I'm keeping the port in HOST_DOMAIN. I more want to know whether something in Rails 2.3 changed the port the test server runs on and where I can read more about why. I've searched a ton and can't find anything, so I'm going to my go-to place to ask development questions :) Thanks in advance.

I found it's very difficult to get batch process information like log or status when i working on sql server's agent. So I'd like to change my company's job scheduling process to another stable solution But I dind't know which solutions to choose. I tried to find as same solution as CA Autosys. My Company use window server system. We shoud consider framework or solution should be configured using solution's api because i plan to make a asp.net web application to manage our job shceduler. But I am not sure Quartz.NET is as good as orginal java version.

• Windows Server 2008 and com objects

  Hi, im moving a Dll (built in c++) from windows 2000 server to a 2008 server but im have some trouble to register it. In 2000 all you normaly have to do is a "regsrv32 name.dll" but this will not work in 2008 because you get a pointer error, iv also tried to use "gacutil /i name.dll" because someone told me this might work, but it didnt. So, im kind of desperate, is there anyone that have some solution to how i can get this c++ dll to work in 2000 server so that i can access it from an old classic asp page. EDIT: This is the error when running regsrv: " The module "name.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "name.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. " Note that i cant edit the dll file in anyway =( Best Regards Marthin

  I want to benchmark a new server using historical HTTP-request data. I have a textfile that contains one day's worth of real historical requests to a production server. What is the best tool for sending that list of requests on the server I'm testing? The tool I use should be able to configure the following: Number of threads making the requests Number of requests/second sent A list of request URLs to use when making the requests. Apache Bench seems like a close fit. However, Bench does not seem to be able to take in a list of request URLs as a parameter. What would you recommend?

• Sql Server copying table information between databases

  Hi, I have a script that I am using to copy data from a table in one database to a table in another database on the same Sql Server instance. The script works great when I am connected to the Sql Server instance as myself as I have dbo access to both databases. The problem is that this won't be the case on the client's Sql Server. They have seperate logins for each database (Sql Authentication Logins). Does anyone know if there is a way to run a script under these circumstances. The script would be doing something like. use sourceDB Insert targetDB.dbo.tblTest (id, test_name) Select id, test_name from dbo.tblTest Thanks

  Hi, I have an application that creates an SQLite database and saves information to it over the course of a day. At the end of the day i want to export this database to a web server. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Should I use httppost or put. I have researched this myself online but there seems to be so many different ways to explore.   I'm buying a Server from a person (that I don't know really well) and I want to make sure that the previous owner hasn't got any access anymore. It's an Ubuntu Virtual Server and I already received the admin access (via shell). How can I find out if there are still other accounts left, who are still able to access my server (e.g. with a still existing shell account, ftp or another type of user account)? • How do I track down sporadic ASP.NET performance problems in a production environment?

  I've had sporadic performance problems with my website for awhile now. 90% of the time the site is very fast. But occasionally it is just really, really slow. I mean like 5-10 seconds load time kind of slow. I thought I had narrowed it down to the server I was on so I migrated everything to a new dedicated server from a completely different web hosting company. But the problems continue. I guess what I'm looking for is a good tool that'll help me track down the problem, because it's clearly not the hardware. I'd like to be able to log certain events in my ASP.NET code and have that same logger also track server performance/resources at the time. If I can then look back at the logs then I can see what exactly my website was doing at the time of extreme slowness. Is there a .NET logging system that'll allow me to make calls into it with code while simultaneously tracking performance? What would you recommend?

  First, I tried to migrate my databases with SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySql and it worked fine. But now, I have some problems with my code. I had this line on MYSQL version : $fct="SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `USER` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$LOGIN' USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci AND `PASS` LIKE CONVERT( _utf8 '$PASS'USING latin1 ) COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci"; This line worked fine but when i try to put this on my SQL Version i get : Error : SQLSTATE[42000]: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax with the keyword 'mictest'. • [C#] Async threaded tcp server

  I want to create a high performance server in C# which could take about ~10k clients. Now i started writing a TcpServer with C# and for each client-connection i open a new thread. I also use one thread to accept the connections. So far so good, works fine. The server has to deserialize AMF incoming objects do some logic ( like saving the position of a player ) and send some object back ( serializing objects ). I am not worried about the serializing/deserializing part atm. My main concern is that I will have a lot of threads with 10k clients and i've read somewhere that an OS can only hold like a few hunderd threads. Are there any sources/articles available on writing a decent async threaded server ? Are there other possibilties or will 10k threads work fine ? I've looked on google, but i couldn't find much info about design patterns or ways which explain it clearly

• ODBC Linked server in sql 2005 doesn’t work from remote box

  I have a dev workstation with sql 2005 installed and in it I created a linked server to a odbc connection to a clarion database. I can run select statements against it inside sql Mgt studio. When I take a second workstation and connect to the sql on the first box using sql mgt studio, then try the exact same query I get OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "liveclarion" returned message "[SoftVelocity Inc.][TopSpeed ODBC Driver][ISAM]ISAM Table Not Found". Any thoughts? It appears to have the same functionality on a second sql server. No remote sql mgt studio connect success in queries against my linked ODBC clarion DB. All done with windows authentication and the same AD user.

  SQL Server 2008 provides the ability to script data as Insert statements using the Generate Scripts option in Management Studio. Is it possible to access the same functionality from within a SSIS package? Here's what I'm trying to accomplish... I have a scheduled job that nightly scripts out all the schema and data for a SQL Server 2008 database and then uses the script to create a "mirror copy" SQLCE 3.5 database. I've been using Narayana Vyas Kondreddi's sp_generate_inserts stored procedure to accomplish this, but it has problems with some datatypes and greater-than-4K columns (holdovers from SQL Server 2000 days). The Script Data function looks like it could solve my problems, if only I could automate it. Any suggestions?

  Best practices or tools for installing a SQL Server database I have a SQL Server database designed with the SQL Server GUI database editor/Visual Studio. What is the best way to "install" that database on other systems. Said another way how should I ship this thing? I know I can save the scripts and set the primary/foreign keys with T-SQL but I suspect their is something better. I guess you could have people restore from backup but that does not seem very professional. What other choices are there and what are the pluses and minuses?

  Hello, I created an asymmetric key on one of my SQL servers (2008). I encrypted a password field and I am able to retrieve that password just fine on my development server. The issue comes into play where I need to move this data to a production server. Here is the code for the key that was created: CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD='#########' CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY UserEncryptionKey WITH ALGORITHM = RSA_2048 Now, when I run this on the production server, it creates the key just fine. However, when I run my sproc to get the password, it returns NULL. SQL: SELECT EncryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('UserEncryptionKey'), Password ) FROM Users WHERE UserName = '######' Any thoughts on what I need to do to get the encrypted field to work on multiple SQL Servers?   We’re creating a massively-multiplayer social game. We expect up to 1 million concurrent users. The game is not real-time, instead it’s turn-based. We need reliable messaging between our clients and the server, preferably over HTTP protocol. Besides the multiplayer functionality, we’ll also need a content delivery service. Could you please recommend a server-side technology for us, so we’ll start searching for the right people to hire?   In our system, the code which exists on the client side (in Flash and Javascript) mirrors the code that exists on the server side (e.g. in Python or PHP), normally with respect to the models, the methods available for those models, and the unit tests written for them. This becomes a problem in systems where you want to minimize data transfer (e.g. multiplayer games). I do not want to write the same code and unit tests redundantly for both the client and server, but I don't know of any standard solutions to deal with this. Basically, I want a language/compiler which can produce models and methods for three main languages: Actionscript, Javascript, and any server language. Does something like this exist?

• SQL Server 2000 DTS Package Failing with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified"

  I have inherited a SQL Server 2000 DTS package that migrates data from SQL Server to Oracle. This package moves about 20 tables' data to Oracle every night with no transformations, and it is then transformed by a set of SPs and used by a GIS application. Twice this week, during the migration between SQL Server and Oracle, the package has failed with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified". It has failed on a different table each time, though. Each time it's failed, we've rerun the process the next morning and it has worked. Because the process works the second time it's run, it makes me think the data is being changed by someone or something between the initial failure and our successful second run. I would like to change the DTS package to log the failing rows in a text document so we can compare them later. Can someone help me with that? I can't seem to figure that part out. Scott

  Hi everybody. I already read that there is no possibility to run GSON in GWT client code, but that it is possible to run it in server code. The latter one is which I'm trying to achive, but not getting to work. I thought any class within the com.whatever.server package has access to the whole JRE namespace including reflection. It seems that that is not the point. So how managed all those developers to use GSON in GWT server code? (I'm new to GWT, so the answer may be really easy.) Thanks.

• SQL Server Express 2008 Stored Procedure execution time spikes periodically

  I have a big stored procedure on a SQL Server 2008 Express SP2 database that gets run about every 200 ms. Normal execution time is about 50ms. What I am seeing is large inconsistencies in this run time. It will execute for while, say 50-100 times at 40-60ms which is expected, then seemingly at random the same stored procedure will take way longer, say 900ms or 1.5 seconds to run. Sometimes more than one call of the same procedure in a row will take longer too. It appears that something is causing sql server to slow down dramatically every minute or so, but I can't figure out what. There is no timing pattern between the occurences. I have the same setup on two different computers, one of which is a clean XP Pro load with no virus checking and nothing installed except SQL server. Also, The recovery options for all the databases are set to "Simple".

  hi, I'm building a Flex application, which is going to perform many server requests (let's say, that almost all interactions require an update from server). At the moment I'm using remote procedure calls for it. But I was wondering if using a socket would be better. In other terms, is maybe better to keep the connection alive rather then performing many calls in sequence ? For my demo app I only have 1 client. Is the number of clients connecting to the server a factor for this choice ? thanks

• MS SQL Server Text Datatype Maxlength = 65,535?

  Software I'm working with uses a text field to store XML. From my searches online, the text datatype is supposed to hold 2^31 - 1 characters. Currently SQL Server is truncating the XML at 65,535 characters every time. I know this is caused by sqlserver, because if I add a 65,536th character to the field directly in Management Studio, it states that it will not update because characters will be truncated. Is the Maxlength really 65,535 or could this be because the database was designed in an earlier version of MS SQL Server (2000) and it's using the legacy text datatype instead of 2005's? If this is the case, will Altering the datatype to Text in sql server 2005 fix this issue?
